Fox News joined other networks yesterday in ridiculing a truly bizarre moment from the Oval Office where Trump appeared to show a forecast map of Hurricane Dorian with a hastily drawn extension into Alabama. Trump previously claimed that Alabama was in the hurricane’s projected path and was widely contradicted (including by federal officials). He then showed up with the map that seemed to have an extension written by a Sharpie. It was another bizarre misstep that expanded a minor story into a major embarrassment. Trump had to personally deny that he took a Sharpie to the altered map in what people are humorously calling “Sharpiegate.“
The apparent Sharpie job was no clumsy and amateurish that one had to wonder if someone on the staff was being passive aggressive and intentionally trying to make Trump look ridiculous. Anyone looking at that altered map would have said that it looked absurdly altered. That obviously did not include Trump himself.
Trump’s initial misstatement over Alabama was not particularly serious. Once could see how the mistake could have been made. Trump could have just let it drop or even, perish the thought, admitted that he was wrong. Parts of Alabama was likely to get heavy rain but was not really in the path. Trump however doubled down.
Trump had already objected to the critics over his Alabama claim and returned to the subject by raising the National Weather Service’s early forecasts of Hurricane Dorian’s path. In what was clearly an effort to quiet the criticism, Trump declared “We got lucky in Florida, very, very lucky indeed. We had actually our original chart was that it was going to be hitting Florida directly… And that would have affected a lot of other states.”
Fox correctly reported that this was not the map issued by the government. In discussing the scene with Bret Baier, John Roberts noted that there was never a forecast track into Alabama and “You can see somebody with a Sharpie or some other writing instruments added a little bit to the cone of uncertainty, which was not a part of the official forecast, which included the Florida panhandle and parts of Alabama.”
This is yet another example of how this White House and this President is ignoring a fundamental rule of life and politics: when you are in a hole, stop digging.
San Francisco BoS: the NRA is a terrorist organization.
I find it ironic that Turley didn’t know what Trump has done. The Donald has violated a federal law restricting free speech, the felonous act of giving a false weather forecast. Turley, despite his free speech advicacy, wrote not a word about that, just The Donald’s continued … well, I won’t write it; use your imagination, those of you who have one.
Trump did not give a false weather forecast, and for you to say something so stupid rates you down around the level of Anon. Grow up, your Trump hatred makes you look like a silly child
David brings to mind many things but not the level of Anon.
An outty navel, perhaps, or toe jam, but not Anon….that would be throwing him to the gutter
just saying
I cannot help those who have eyes but do not see and have ears but do not hear.
Read the law David. Trump didn’t violate the law. Unfortunately, stupid people say stupid things and interpret things stupidly. What law is there that says you have to follow in their shoes.
Was there a point to this or just the usual zipadeedoodahnahdah.
Are you referring to the moronic comments on these forums or just Turley’s blog in general?
It seems that “…moronic comments on these fora…” is the technically correct form and we certainly don’t want to appear even marginally moronic now, do we?
But where is your Abraham Lincoln, Ben Franklin, G. Washington, James Madison, etc quotes? We haven’t seen them enough times to recite them in our sleep
/sarc
Thanks for reading!
My quotes “is” in the history books. May I quote you?
how do you say dumb azz in Latin?
Fora vs. forums
Fora and forums are plurals of forum. The former conforms to the original Latin, which some people prefer, while others like the Anglicized form. Neither is right or wrong, and choosing between them is mostly a matter of preference. Be aware, however, that forums is by far the more common form in most types of writing throughout the English-speaking world. Fora still has the edge in scientific and scholarly contexts, though. This is not surprising, as Latin forms are typically more common in these types of writing. Outside these contexts, fora can be distracting and even confusing to readers who are used to seeing the English word.
https://grammarist.com/usage/fora-forums/
The last time I checked, D— A– in Latin was SK.
Per the post by “Cassie,” I was positing that it may also be “moronic” to not be “…technically correct.”
What I said, and many people can actually read, was that it “…seems that…fora… is the technically correct form.”
Actual Latin doesn’t get any more technically correct than actual Latin.
Everyone agrees!
I am somewhat of a bull—-er myself, but occasionally I like listen to a professional. Please carry on!
You either forum or againstum.
LOL……….Good question, Michael. I’m not sure Sharpiegate will survive and make it into history books along with the other “gates”.
Ask your leader. He pumped it up to big news.
He’s your leader, too, Anon1. Unless you’re not a U.S. citizen. Hmmm. I might be on to something here.
He’s my president, not my leader.
What? No free speech allowed from The Donald?
David: there is a federal regulation that imposes fines and/or imprisonment for publishing a false weather report. People who may be at risk for dangerous weather conditions and the possibility of needing to plan for evacuation take such claims of possible impact seriously. Trump used the criticism as an opportunity to bash the “fake news”.
But, at the end of the day, as usual, this was all about Trump’s ego and narcissism. Instead of saying “whoops–I was looking at an old map dated 8/28 that had a single line that was close, but not really touching Alabama, instead of more-recent maps” he doubled down and doubled down again, because he can never be wrong. These aren’t “missteps”–just more lying followed by doubling down and accusations that the media are “fake” and out to get him..
Natacha — You are supposed to recognize sarcasm. 🙂
David: there is nothing funny about a POTUS who lies all of the time, doubles down, then pivots to accuse the media of being “fake” and out to get him, or about misrepresenting the danger of inclement weather. Trump’s narcissism is not comical, either.
Me thinks the liberals have done some jail time. How else to explain their sudden interest in morality and religion?
Liberals and Lies….they go so well together kinda like Hillary and Bosnian sniper fire
Natacha – the press misrepresents the danger of inclement weather here all the time. We do not have a f**king heart attack over it.
“the press misrepresents the danger of inclement weather here all the time.”
Nonsense. As long as Jim Cantore is misrepresenting the inclement weather, he can say whatever he wants since he is hawt! Who notices what he says considering the hot stud he is!
dang it….he’s on the TV again. Gotta blow…um…go !
– Bob & Joe
PCS, calm down; it’s only a game. Remember your blood pressure.
George – it is no big deal to me, but my wife HATES the weather people here. It is more her blood pressure I am worried about.
I take my wife to the doctor often and keep her tuned up!
Paul, if you live in Arizona, you don;t have weather. Change the forecast 4 times a year.
Make that 3.
Anon1 – generally the weatherperson has to decide when it is hot, too hot, or too damn hot. However, when the monsoon hits, the weatherperson needs to tell us when and where it is going to rain and how hard and how long.
Ahhh. Subtleties the locals are aware of. Where I live we wonder in the summer which will be worse, the high temp or humidity, with both in the low 90’s for 6 months.
Professor Turley, will you next inform us of the “skid marks” on the President’s underwear? Surely you jest.
TRUMP, HOWEVER, DOUBLED DOWN
AN ALL-TOO-FAMILIAR STORY
The key passage from Professor Turley’s column is this: “Trump could have just let it drop or even, perish the thought, admitted that he was wrong. Parts of Alabama was likely to get heavy rain but was not really in the path. Trump however doubled down”.
Donald Trump is a vain and immature man who never held public office until he got the White House. He is also a man with little regard for facts. Therefore Trump has this long habit of uttering falsehoods which he then doubles-down on when journalists try to correct the record. This has been the pattern since Trump first announced his candidacy.
Predictably Trump supporters double-down with Trump. This has created an odd climate where the truth is constantly open to competing interpretations. This is ‘not’ where we want to be as a society. If Americans can longer agree on basic facts, our best days as a nation are clearly behind us. Ironically Vladimir Putin would love to see America dissolve into a chaos where no accepted truth exists.
One should remember that on Donald Trump’s first Sunday in office, Spokeswoman Kelly Anne Conway went on NBC’s “Meet The Press” to offer what she called “Alternative Facts” with regards to attendance at Trump’s inauguration. That one moment set the tone for this entire presidency: “The truth is a lie and lies are now the truth”.
Indeed, these zombies will repeat any nonsense he throws out, completely oblivious to facts. A ego driven infant leads them around by the nose as they are forced to accept whatever dream world he constructs each day to support his fantasies. Stepping off is too hard for them now, they’re in to deep. Admitting they’ve been had for almost 3 years is beyond embarrassing.
We are all paying for this as the US is no longer a leader on the world stage – who would try to make a deal with someone this unstable – and our domestic problems remain unaddressed as he lacks any coherent policy to even lead Republicans.

“This has created an odd climate where the truth is constantly open to competing interpretations”
I am just employing the cutlural relativism and philosophical skepticism a bunch of commies taught me in university LOL
This is a big deal for only little people.
The media decided to go after the president and now The Media’s dogs follow.
Trump made it a big deal. No one else.
If he had ignored it it would have been forgotten and disappeared down the hole with his other multiple and daily misstatements of fact.
Anon, Trump was wishing people to be safe in areas he thought under the threat. Big deal. The NHC changes what they say daily so I think Trump can do the same. He was right about some predictions and that was shown by the spagetti models but he should have left the forecastng to the NHC. Except he really wasn’t forecasting rather he was wishing people to be safe. The media acted like jerks and as usual you followed suit.
It see that now Trump has committed a felonious federal crime by giving a false weather report.
Indeed.
18 U.S. Code § 2074. False weather reports
U.S. Code
Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.
(June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 795; Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, § 330016(1)(G), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2147.)
ok appoint a special counsel to look into this maybe? you guys are nuts
one can’t cut a fart in this country without breaking a law
of course that contributes to global warming and mayor pete will call out the national guard now i guess
Turley’s point is that this particular lie even caught the attention of Fox News because it was so demonstrably absurd.
” falsely representing such forecast or warning ***to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service*** ”
The problem is Anon you ignorant “slut” (as you called another) the President was rendering his views of the weather reports he saw and was not falsely representing the forecast.
David B. Benson – if giving a false weather report is a federal offense, every weather person in Arizona is headed for federal prison.
Weather reporting is often wrong. Not intentionally, weather just changes. Journalism is so dead in this country. Which is sad because America was the first country to support a free and honest press. Journalism used to be honest. Now it’s a comedy act. Sad. Does anyone really care about this? And why the unspoken suggestion that President Trump actually used a Sharpie? Why the hype? At this point I think most people are more interested in what’s happening on the Eastern Seaboard than a corner of Alabama. Stay away from CNN and MSNBC unless you want to hear 4-5 people spend an hour contemplating the “Great Sharpie Fiasco” trying to come up with something new to say. They could discuss the many colors available, or that Sharpies would make great Christmas Stocking Stuffers! Read a book!
Nice try Sandra, but unfortunately you’re an idiot.
Americans enjoy unqualified and absolute freedom of the press; no “interpretation” possible. Honesty of the press is not mandated by the Constitution. Honesty is optional except for legal testimony as perjury. The Constitution provides for courts which decide the civil matter of defamation as slander or libel.
“Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom…of the press;…”
_______________________________________________________
1st Amendment
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Much ado about nothing. Trump had stale storm info and the storm could have tracked into Alabama. Weather predictions are just that and to make a big fuss about them says more about the critic than the predictor.
As Banquo notes in MacBeth when questioning the three witches:
To me you speak not.
If you can look into the seeds of time,
And say which grain will grow and which will not,
Speak then to me, who neither beg nor fear
Your favors nor your hate.

As in life, only the real witches know the future for sure or care to hate those who don’t.

nice quote
A law professor blogs about this, why…exactly?
It goes – like a laser – to the character of who holds the presidency and what used to be the leader of the free world.
Who can take this guy seriously for leadership of any kind? Who would even try to make a deal with him?
He’s an infant who weighs 275.
Hillary lost to him, the MSM have lost to him, not a single Dim candidate has the heft to defeat him
Sux to be ewe
Sing it, sister!
Cindy Bragg – the Democrats will have to finally decide who their challenger is. Biden just had a bust blood vessel in his eye and appears to be “sundowning” by midday. However, he is the current leader because he is the most moderate, I don’t think Bernie’s and Warren’s people like each others candidate so when one of them drops out, the other is not going to pick up the votes. Warren is surging now and they made sure that she could not be challenged in the debates.
Paul C…..true, true, true. Both Biden and Warren have serious problems with the truth. That should eventually sink Warren. And with her awkward, jerky, public demeanor, along with her Daily Worker Chic wardrobe, she doesn’t present well, IMO.
I can’t stand Bernie, but honestly, he is the only one who deserves the Dem nomination because they obviously and cruelly stole it from him in 2016.
Paul, do you notice how the media pounces on Trump for something that was true and could have ended up being true, but when Biden is ‘sundowning’ nothing is said? I listen to people like Anon in shock because he lies so much and doesn’t seem to have any critical thinking skills. I may be wrong but I seem to remember Katrina hitting the Bahamas similar to Dorian and then south Florida was in its target. It hit south Florida and crossed the peninsula into the gulf, picked up steam and wrecked Louisiana and Mississippi. I don’t think the latter part of the hurricane was anticipated by the NHC that changes its forcasts as its guesses fail.
Allan…….Also, then Senator Obama voted against one of the bills to authorize funding for Katrina victims because it was attached to Iraq spending. Then when he was President, he gave a speech in N.O. telling blacks basically that the gov’t after Katrina didn’t care about black folks. Remember that?
Cincy, I think we agree Obama was all mouth. He knew only how to destroy and not how to build.
Sista!
Seriously??? Yolanda???
If the law professor focused on the minutiae of fundamental law, all Americans would soon learn that the entire communist American welfare state was unconstitutional. Congress can’t tax for individual welfare, can’t regulate anything other than commerce among states and absolutely cannot possess or dispose of, that is claim or exercise dominion over, private property. Period.
The good, liberal, biased and subjective professor does not want any Americans to know that affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, rent control, social services, forced busing, minimum wage, utility subsidies, WIC, TANF, HAMP, HARP, Dept.’s of Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Obamaphones, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security
Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, etc. are all unconstitutional, the fact they teach all the wrong lessons and are counterproductive and deleterious notwithstanding.
Presidents from Washington to the present one have made mistakes over and over just like Obama’s where he stated 57 states. Without trying to comment on Trump’s remark the NHC released a picture where the cone was heading in the direction of and close to Alabama, Advisory #015. This is not a big deal. I don’t understand why Turley is looking so low to hammer the President and leaving out other far more important things regarding civil liberties which I think involve his major inteterest.
Other presidents were not such puny characters that they tried to lie their way out of their mistake, taking up the attention of the nation and the weather service at the same time as the US was under active threat from the subject of his lies.
This is your guy in full bloom. My 9 year old grandson knows he can’t get away this crap. People like Allan enable him and are probably so stupid they’ll even vote for him again.
This is Anon talking out of his other orifice. He doesn’t care whether or not what he says is true. He just says whatever comes into his mind. I will give the classic Obama example: ‘If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor’.
There is no end to Anon’s stupidity. …And yes I will vote for Trump again especially since the Democratic candidates seem to be in a race as to who can bankrupt the US quicker.
And yet here you are acting like a 9 year old day after day trolling for dollars, insulting all and making your average Terrible Two marvel at your polished TDS antics
Regards to your “construction” business….and your “grandson”

“Needless to say, there’s a huge difference between an isolated slip of the tongue and ceaseless, shameless, and witless prevarication on virtually all topics, large and small.” -George Conway
President Trump has made 12,019 false or misleading claims over 928 days
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/08/12/president-trump-has-made-false-or-misleading-claims-over-days/
yyy, we have gone through this same article over and over and over again. In fact some of the lies pointed to by the Washington Post were proven wrong by myself and others. Most of what is being called a lie is opinion. That is something you guys need to learn. The difference between opinion and fact.
The President has been very transparent. He has actually fulfilled many of his promises and tried to fulfill many others. Based on fulfilling promises made to the public before election this President is one of the most honest we have ever had.
However, I am interested in what you consider substantial lies or misleading claims. Why don’t you choose ten of the most substantial and egregious so they can be discussed and we can actually see what you are talking about. So far none of the posters on the blog who agree with you have been able to provide such a list. I could probably find ten and I am going to vote for him, but the question is whether you can find ten or if you are just parroting what everyone on the left wants to believe.
I can find very egregious lies made by every President, but in total I think this President has been the most honest.
I had posted earlier, but the posting never came through so I will repeat it. As an aside along with the advisory #015 showing the hurricane cone in the direction of and close to Alabama the wind diagram also shown actually went into Alabama. You guys fiddle around with inconsequential things in a desperate attempt to catch the President. It makes all of you look small, especially the media.
Thanks for those comments Birmingham Bob.
Somebody clipped my earlier post showing our lame a.s president’s own excuse for his BS. Who’s destroying source evidence here?
Again:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EDp03OAWkAE36Sl.jpg
This form a trump tweet, yesterday at 3:23. Look it up. Note the date – 4 days before his “Alabama” quote. Note the disclaimer – “ignore” it if conflicts with “NHS discussion” Note the source – not the NWS, but S Fl Water Management District.
You are an idiot. The NHC releases the cone of the projected path of the storm with a warning that the storm could veer outside of the cone especially since this hurricane was unpredictable. In fact such warnings were repeated as Dorian travelled up the coast of Florida. The spagetti models are different models and they always show different tracks. Some of the spagetti models demonstrated a path that could hit Louisiana and Alabama. Hurricanes have veered off the cone at various times and have hit unexpected places. There is not just damage from wind but also rain and flooding even without hurricane winds. I can’t be sure of the timing of the models and the timing of what the President said and neither can you, but being the a$$ you are and ignorant to boot you draw conclusions without the facts.
At the very worst the President made a statement that didn’t reflect the most accurate timeline. That is not a big deal though the media tries to make it into one and you promote it as an absolute abomination proving you to be the fool you are.
Zombie can’t hear this, but the facts are:
1. The president mistakenly said twice – verbally and in a tweet – that Alabama was under threat of being “hurt” by Dorian. That was on Sept 2.
2. The Birmingham NWS office issued a correction saying that was not true. That’s their job. Remember, the hurricane is active during this period and threatening the US.
3. Jon Karl of ABC News reported this that night, saying it was not true. That’s his job. Remember, the hurricane is active during this period and threatening the US.
4. Trump the next morning doubled down and called Karl “Bad People”. Why didn’t he just say, “my mistake, my bad, sorry.” No doubt as president he would have been criticized for using 4 day old information – which also did not show Alabama in the consensus path – in the middle of an ongoing crisis, but hey, don’t run for election if you can’t handle it.
5. As he received more criticism, he produced crudely doctored, now 6 day old information to somehow show he was correct. Later he tweeted an 8 day old chart which still did not show what he claimed – the consensus then also had the storm path going up through Georgia with a few outliers in Alabama and Louisiana.
Remember, the hurricane is active during this period and threatening the US.
The uncomplicated fact is that Trump is an emotional infant who cares more about his fragile ego than he does an actual ongoing national crisis and will lie without cover to protect it. His supporters – this board abounds with them – will go to any lengths to not face this obvious fact. If this is not a cult, what is? Fortunately most of the country isn’t buying it and never has.
Look, you idiot – being a sailor, I have skin in the game here. You do NOT know what you are talking about, as per usual. Alabama was originally in the path of this hurricane, and you denying that just shows what a stupid and misinformed ass you are.
You try to back your foolishness up with a spaghetti chart, without knowing what is is, then double back to talking about the five day projection chart when you get called on that BS.
We get that you don’t like this president. Now STFU, you mindless ass.
I suggest you get on land and stay there Canuck, or stick to swabbing the decks. You don’t rely on 4 day old information for decisions on either place when you have constant updates available. but it can be especially risky at sea. If you don’t know this, I’m guessing your “craft” is in your bath tub.
No, Alabama was never in the path of the hurricane, if by that you mean the consensus of all models. Even the lame chart Trump posted himself shows that path being east Georgia. But even that chart predated his comments by 4 days and was obsolete. A man would just admit that. Unfortunately, your leader isn’t a man.
It gets really tiresome having to continually tell you you’re full of shit. All of these forecasts are archived, and I just checked – they prove you to be wrong. Alabama was in the forecast track as per the five day outlook Trump showed in the photo. The relevant chart showed Dorian crossing the FL peninsula to the north of Tampa Bay, and I specifically recall the broadcast on VHF Weather Ch 7 – since I was offshore the Carolinas at the time – stating that the storm was expected to cross into the Gulf and then restrengthen, since it would lose strength while over land.
fyi – over 60k sea miles in the Atlantic and Pacific, the Gulf, Caribbean and the Great Lakes. Unlike you, I know what I’m talking about. I don’t rely on predictions at all, because I’ve seen a 70 knot storm come out of the clear blue sky at Carters Cay in the Bahamas, with nothing of the sort in the prediction. As for “risky at sea”, don’t try to educate me on this – you have NO idea who I am, or what my knowledge is. If you did, you’d slink away like the lowlife fool you are.
And he’s not my leader – I’m Canadian, as most fools would figure out from my moniker. You of course are not most fools – you’re far stupider.
Canuck Sailor – how have decided to wait out the storm? Wait it out outside its reach? Or try to harbour (Canadian spelling just for you :)) safely until it dies? Or?
I’m in Annapolis MD, well outside of its reach. Next option is Lake Winnipeg – after Florence last year, when I was in NC, I’d just as soon pass on any more hurricanes 🙂
Canuck, you’re not only a fool but a liar. Here’s the chart Trump belatedly tweeted – 3:23 yesterday – look it up.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EDp03OAWkAE36Sl.jpg
The consensus path is East Georgia with a very few models showing Alabama and Louisiana.
The bigger point is the date is Aug 28 and he made his “Alabama” claim on Sept 2. He obviously zoned out for 4 days and then pretended to be on top of it all as the President. When shown to be asleep at the wheel he figured he could lie his way out of it, and with Zombies like you and Allan, he can.
PS I know all I need to know about you, You’re a chump and a mark. Don’t go to the State Fair without a chaperone.
The consensus here is that you’re an idiot. Scratch that, it’s not a consensus, it’s a conclusion. No one makes predictions based on a spaghetti model, that’s not its purpose, and the spaghetti charts are not dated in the same manner that a five day forecast is. This is not something people unfamiliar with them would know – like billionaire real estate developers, or their advisers. For those who DO understand these things, we know that Trump was correct in stating what he did, because at that time, no one could know for sure just what Dorian was going to do. It’s changed again today in fact.
P.S. You know sweet bugger all about me – just as you know nothing about most topics here you pretend to be knowledgeable about. Now please, for once and forever, SHUT UP!
He’s going to Alabama.
i learned from listening to the MAFOR forecast on the radio that the city on coast near bridge to Canada is called “Sue Saint Marie” when i was little. You & Trump reminded me of this Canucker. Good memories
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sault_Ste._Marie,_Michigan
The MAFORs – been a while since I heard that.
Canuck I know you’re looking for a graceful exit – even you can finally smell the Trump BS stench – but I’m not giving it to you.
No, Alabama was not on anyone’s path “at the time” Trump said it was. That’s why the Birmingham NWS office had to issue a correction.
You new position that nobody knows what a hurricane is going to do and that you don’t pay attention to predictions is understandable given the corner you’re now in. Well, actually the NWS knew Alabama wasn’t in Dorian’s path when Trump said it was and they were not keeping that secret from him or anybody.
In the meantime, thanks for the warning on your traveling without regard for weather predictions and if, in the unlikely event that I might engage with whatever craft you are on – or clean toilets on – I’ll keep that in mind.and steer clear,
Jackass – the best you can do is misinterpret what I say to try and sound clever. Bugger off. End of discussion, you’re stupidity is too annoying to deal with any longer. Now you can post your ‘gotcha’ post and swagger around like you won something, instead of having demonstrated what an ass you are. Why I waste time with twits like you is beyond me.
Buh bye Canuck.
I feel your pain.
If it’s a cult i like it!
Let’s understand that Anon lies a lot.
I don’t think the President’s statement about Dorian was the best statement but he didn’t lie. Anon did. Anon doesn’t know the difference between present tense and past tense. The NHC comment represented their best GUESS because they don’t know for sure either.
Here is one of Trump’s tweets. I put the word ‘was’ in capitals so people realize he wasn’t talking about the present but what was considered in the past. He was right about that.
“They made a big deal about this when in fact, under certain original scenarios, it WAS in fact correct that Alabama could have received some ‘hurt.’ Always good to be prepared!”
The spagetti models showed tracks going to Alabama. The cone people talk about is a consensus but it doesn’t mean the hurricane will follow those models and that is why those threatened by the storms keep watching for changes. Such changes have happened in the past.
Anon is a continuous liar who will change the words that were said.
Allan should be specific if he wants to charge me with lying. I’ll answer.
When Trump said “Alabama” there was no/zero/zippo/ nada threat to that state from Dorian.. None. I heard him. In fact, there was never a time when the projection cones covered any part of Alabama and only a very few of the many models showed it going over that state – 4 days before his comments. The assortment of models he himself posted yesterday – 3:23 PM – shows the consensus track going over E. Georgia and the Atlantic, including the line in red with circles which is the NWS prediction.
This link shows the NOAA cones as they developed in time. Give it a minute to populate and it runs as a video. Note that the cone NEVER gets to Alabama.
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2019/DORIAN_graphics.php?product=5day_cone_no_line_and_wind
Trump is a liar.
Allan is an idiot or a liar, or both. I ask him to specifically challenge anything I have said here and we’ll see who can back up what they say.
Anon1 – according to this article, NOAA is 90% accurate in a 5 day forecast, however they are less accurate than that in Arizona.
https://scijinks.gov/forecast-reliability/
Remember that hurricane stalled for awhile, but NOAA did not predict that. As they say in the West, NOAA is backing-and-hoeing right now. Trump’s Sharpiegate could be more accurate than NOAA.
Funny s..t Paul. You’ll say the sky is green if Trump does.
You’re embarrassing yourself.
Anon1 – I am just saying that you need to think outside the box.
Yes Paul, I understand the contortions Trump cultists must assume.
Anon1 – and I understand the contortions of those with TDS.
“When Trump said “Alabama” there was no/zero/zippo/ nada threat to that state from Dorian.. ”
Totally untrue! When he made his tweet the NHC best guess, known as the cone, didn’t agree, but the NHC changes its threat assessments all the time and they even tell you that on their reports. I agree that the NHC prediction is more reliable but that doesn’t mean there was no threat to Alabama.
If the President had said that Hurricane Katrina posed a threat to Lousiana and Mississippi while it was on its way to south Florida to hit land in Miami Dade at I believe a category 2 you would have said there was zippo threat to Lousiana but unexpected to everyone this relatively low level hurricane went though Florida and did tremendous damage to Louisiana and Mississippi. Zippo threat doesn’t exist. Unfortunatley you level of education is low and seems to have skipped statistics.
“there was never a time when the projection cones covered any part of Alabama”
Are you too stupid to recognize that the projected cone is a guess that is changed as the hurricane changes position?
I don’t think the cone expected Katrina to hit the Gulf states when it hit Florida. Is this so difficult for you to understand? Your arrogance prevents you from opening your mind and learning what the word prediction means.
You asked to be challenged but you have been challenged over and over again. Unfortunately your command of the English language along with your understanding of statistics leaves you sounding like the idiot you are.
Allan is beyond embarrassing himself. He’s a liar, an idiot. or both.
I encourage anyone who doubts that and GAF to view the accumulated NOAA charts in my link above. They corroborate what I have said and will say now. You can stop the charts at Sunday morning to verify these facts.
Trump claimed Alabama was under threat Sunday morning at about 11:00 in a tweet. The NOAA chart at that time shows Dorian off the Florida coast and heading N with a projected turn NE. The center is projected to stay off the coast of Georgia by 100+ miles. The edge of the cone is about 200 miles from Alabama and headed NE, or away from that state.
The NWS in Birmingham issued a correction to the president’s idiocy within an hour.
Trump repeated his mistake in comments outside the WH about an hour later.
Allen is lying. At the time of Trump’s Alabama comments there was absolutely zero threat to the state from Dorian, as the Birmingham NWS and the NOAA charts demonstrate.
Anon, you assume the NHC cone which is a prediction includes all the models. It doesn’t. What it is trying to do is make the best guess possible. If they actually were positive of the path they would not need to keep updating the cone. If one observes the cone they will see the alterations being made every time they do an advisory. The cone only predicts out to 5 days and is attempting to warn people of a possible hurricane in their area but that doesn’t mean that people outside the cone shouldn’t worry.
If Trump had made the prediction Lousiana would be hit by Hurricane Katrina Anon would be saying the same garbage he is now. He would be stating that the center pegged the hurricane at a level 2 and would hit land in south Florida. The news would have said that Katrina would not hit Louiisiana. But it did and Trump would have been right in that case.
Trump was telling people to be safe. He saw models that actually hit Alabama and even the NHC models showed potential high winds in Alabama as part of their prediction. Trump is not a weather forecaster but he is President and has right to wish people be safe.
“Allen is lying. At the time of Trump’s Alabama comments there was absolutely zero threat to the state from Dorian”
This is one of Anon’s stupid statements that he can’t help making because he isn’t smart enough to understand probabilities. Just like there was “zero” chance of Katrina hitting Louisiana … IT DID… there was zero chance of Dorian hitting Alabama.
There were models showing Alabama could be hit.
Trump was not providing hour by hour updates.
Even Dorian could have suddenly changed its path went around Florida or across Florida and into the Gulf where it could have built up steam and become a class 5 hurricane threatening the Gulf states.
I challenge Anon to prove anything I have said here is wrong. He can’t and won’t. He isn’t smart enough to even attempt to do so. Instead he will keep repeating the same things over and over again that leave out a lot of important information.
This entire discussion is nothing more than a temper tantrum from the left that lost the election and wishes to create negative press whenever they can because the President is doing an excellent job and they won’t comment on the good things.

In addition to Florida – South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, will most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated. Looking like one of the largest hurricanes ever. Already category 5. BE CAREFUL! GOD BLESS EVERYONE!

Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east. #alwx

“PS The evidence, again:”
Again, Anon, your stupidity never takes a rest to permit you to think.
We are dealing with probabilities. The probability was that the NHC was more correct than Trump but that doesn’t mean they would be right.
Allan, I didn’t think so.
I accept your complete and humiliating surrender on the facts.
Anon, stupidity means you can only repeat yourself and not deal with the facts on the table.
Now Allen has gone off on the last limb, claiming that his Dear Leader is an equal to the NOAA and NWS as a predictor of hurricane paths.
He has nowhere else to go.
“Now Allen has gone off on the last limb, claiming that his Dear Leader is an equal to the NOAA and NWS as a predictor of hurricane paths.”
Anon, you are lying again. I even said the President is not a weather man and that we should be following the NHC.
You don’t know what the word “probability” means and apparently you don’t wish to learn so in your case “probablity” means that Anon remains stupid.
Allan has obviously abandoned discussing any facts while floundering for reasons to justify Dear Leader, including his supposed ability to predict hurricanes as well as the NWS and NOAA.
That takes a special kind of debasing stupidity and Allan comes through as we expected he would.
Meanwhile Paul is looking for squirrels to point out to us.
“Dear Leader, including his supposed ability to predict hurricanes as well as the NWS and NOAA.”
No one has stated Trump is a weather forecaster. You have proven again that you are a liar.
From Charles Hurt’s article in the Washington Times today…
“One fake forecaster complained about Mr. Trump’s tweet in an email to the AP. “Alabama was never in the five-day cone except for a tiny sliver of the southeast corner of the state at one point.”
Seriously? This is the idiot’s complaint?
In other words, Alabama was never in the five-day cone except when it was. And how is it that somehow the “tiny sliver of the southeast corner” of Alabama is suddenly no longer “Alabama”?”
So it seems that you were mistaken.
The complaint was from the Birmingham NWS.
I heard Trump say it outside of the WH and thought WTF? Millions heard it.

Anon again is repeating the same stuff over and over again but can’t seem to deal with the other facts that exist. He doesn’t know what a prediction is and therefore can’t deal with it. That requires a modicum of intelligence that Anon doesn’t seem to have.
Donald Trump destroyed the Clinton machinery, destroyed the liberal media monopoly and destroyed the monopoly that Democrats formerly had on race, immigration, political correctness, and identity politics
Bush I and Bush II were vanquished by the above mentioned parties while Trump slew them all. Trump is a clown to be sure but Democrats have been the Greatest Show on Earth ala Clowns Inc since the 1980s. Trump defeated them all
About as good an analysis as I’ve seen.

Taking actions to manipulate the stock market is against the law. Presenting false weather information is against the law.
Not knowing what state your in is OK?
Hurricane forecast, pls take it seriously.
Mr. President, you have declared a state of emergency for Florida and Georgia, will you extend that state of emergency as the storm tracks up the East Coast?
Yes, I am watching this dangerous storm very, very closely. I have declared a state of emergency for Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and the coasts of North and South Dakota. This is a very, very dangerous storm. My people are watching this storm and I will extend the state of emergency to Michigan, Utah, Oklahoma and Idaho if my people tell me that the storm will strike in those states. This is a very, very dangerous storm.
You are so clever… Bless your heart.
I’m reading a book about baseball, The Game. George Steinbrenner is one of the main characters. It just made me realize Trump has modeled his modus operandi after The Boss.
nick:
Have you read a great baseball book, “Ty Cobb: A Terrible Beauty” yet?

Thanks mespo. I’ll put it on my list. Read The Arm, by Jeff Passan recently. A history of Tommy John surgery. It gets technical but we’ve both read enough medical records to plow through it. Startling how many teen pitchers get the surgery.
nick:
I’ve talked to a couple of othos who believe TJS is vanity surgery for some pitchers since it adds tension and hence torque to the ligament resulting in higher velocity. Might explain the craze.
Except Steinbrenner was a winner and left a legacy; tRump not so much.
More serious was his lie about calls from China about trade talks that had an effect on stock market.
Southern Alabama shares a border with northern Fla…….Last week an initial projection cone included that area.
But, more importantly, I’m having a hard time finding a reference to meteorology in Article II 😊
I’m a sailor, and have been following the storm closely because many of my friends and readers are affected by it. The original forecast indicated that the storm would go over Florida, back into the Gulf of Mexico, restrengthen and then hit land again, going into the state of Alabama. Trump is correct, but as usual, those who hate him can’t accept that. That forecast chart that he is holding shows a five day forecast. That is standard. Had it been produced the following day, Alabama would have been directly inside what is known as the cone of uncertainty. Drying the extra portion on just indicates what would have been the truth in 24 hours.
It is time that liberals in particular stop being so effing Patti, stop looking for fault in everything the man says. It’s getting annoyin drying the extra portion on just indicates what would have been the truth in 24 hours.
It is time that liberals in particular stop being so effing petty, stop looking for fault in everything the man says. I think most of the country is more than sick of the stupidity.
Canuck, you’ll obviously make excuses for any BS from this guy. Your relatives need to do an intervention.
No, the models 4 days before Trump repeatedly said “Alabama” had some outlier models going into Alabama, but not the consensus. By the time he said “Alabama”, none did. None of the cones – consensus – except his sharpie version, showed Alabama.
This guy is so unconcerned with facts that he comments on an event affecting the lives of Americans at that very time with 4 day old information that was not even consensus then.
He is so puny, he continues to take up public consciousness as well attention from the NWS – which is trying to work on serious matters – in an effort to bolster his tiny little ego. Then he gets nasty with those who are charged with correcting him and his stooges – like Canuck and Cindy – do the zombie defense.
Unbelievable.
Canuck, you ignorant slut:
No, Trump produced a chart from the S. Fl. Water Management District.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EDp03OAWkAE36Sl.jpg
It specifically says – I’m not making this up, look at it yourself – the chart should “complement, not replace NHC discussions. If anything on this graphic causes confusion, ignore the entire product.”
Note the date – Aug 28.
Why don’t you take a pill and seek help. After that how about you GFY.
PS That chart is from Trump’s own tweet, yesterday at 3:23. Look it up.
Here’s the law Trump violated. I’m sure Ivan and other strict law and order types here will be hoping for a criminal referral from Al Roker.

The chart in the photo I saw was a NHC five day wind forecast chart that Trump was holding in the Oval Office. This is a spaghetti chart – you can look up what that is if you really want to know what it is for and what it demonstrates. Since I don’t see it in Trump’s hands, and you have a reputation here for being a lying turd, I don’t accept that this is the chart he had without actual proof.
As for who produced it, who cares? It’s accurate, and was probably devised from NOAA or NHC data in any event. Like I and others have said, you’re a small minded Trump hater who will take up on the tiniest thing. Small minds such as yours are like that. Why don’t you run along to the Daily Kos where your BS will be tolerated and you are among like minded illiterates and fools?
Anon1…..I THOUGHT that was you… I love the smell of Cheetos in the morning.

My 9 yr old grandson can create web pages, identities, photos.
it’s a fun, fanciful deception by someone(s) wanting to shake up blogs that have a large audience.
In this case, he’d have to be cannibalizing from the raw material of others’ biographies to create this character. The identity theft would include the manufacture of Facebook pages, online article for local eZines, a linkedin profile, &c. There actually is a person of this name who has certain properties and who can be located (along with his first and second degree relatives) in a half-dozen different places in this and that database.
Both Enigma and Anon1 are intensely interested in daily flotsam and jetsam which can spun in ways embarrassing to the President. Look at our Facebook wall. That’s bog standard for partisan Democrats, these days, as you can tell from looking at our Facebook wall. That aside, they have quite distinct styles, dispositions, and concerns, so I don’t know why they set off your sock-puppet alarm.
TIAXII ……. OMG it’s so easy to have a fake Facebook page! ……using a fabricated name. I have a close friend who has done that for several years.
There is another William Spivey in Orlando who is a white attorney.
Also you can fabricate a “Linkd N”, based on a fake webpage.
I`m not talking about stolen identities.
And again, I don’t care if people want to live their lives like that.
“I don’t know why they set off your sock-puppet alarm.”
Because she herself has been experimenting with/using sockpuppets on this blog.

It doesn’t matter to me how people live their lives. But, I prefer honest people over Central Casting clones, but that’s just me.
You are free to believe whatever you like, Mr. Kurtz.
“You are free to believe whatever you like, Mr. Kurtz.”
i’m pretty sure he already knows that he’s free to believe whatever he likes
lol
i believe that i should conform my beliefs to fact and reason and the inherited wisdom from my ancestors. Which is redundant because of course my ancestors believed things should fit facts and reason as well.
But in college I learned it’s all relative so now I’m “Free” to believe nonsense if I please.

He’s protected by the communist party, unconstitutional legislation, the denial to Americans of their right to private property, freedom of speech and assembly, the Feminazi White Shirts and their service of thugs.
