Somebody is really, really wrong. The Democratic presidential candidates have doubled down on the party’s opposition to the Trump immigration policies while supporting sanctuary cities, noncooperation with ICE on detainers and other issues. In the meantime, the Trump Administration is prevailing in litigation over his travel ban orders and it is now expanding the nations subject to the executive order. Both parties seem to believe that they have the voters on their side, including a new showdown in New York where Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed the “Green Light Law” allowing undocumented persons to get driver’s licenses. That has set off a major confrontation with Homeland Security which is vowing to suspend enrollment in the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP).
There was considerable coverage of the travel ban litigation when lower courts were ruling against the Administration. The litigation was no doubt prolonged by an original order that was poorly written and poorly defended. That order went through a series of changes but, as the challengers noted in court, the underlying claim of executive authority remained the same. Some of us believed that the Administration would prevail ultimately and criticized elements of the lower court decisions, including their reliance on campaign statements and tweets by President Trump. Ultimately, the Supreme Court lifted injunctions and signaled that the Administration would prevail on those fundamental claims.
Now the Administration is adding six new countries — Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania. Four of the countries —
The Trump administration’s latest travel ban, announced on January 31, targets six countries — Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar and Nigeria — will not be allowed immigrant visas for permanent visas. Two countries — Sudan and Tanzania — will be barred from “diversity visas” that is open to countries will historically low levels of immigration. Since all six have large Muslim populations, the same criticism over religious discrimination will be raised. It is guaranteed to trigger the same controversy — perhaps by design — right before the 2020 election. That will include at least one Supreme Court decision in the area and a number of appellate court decisions. On the travel orders, Trump still holds the advantage on precedent.
The Democrats are equally committed to their course on immigration. Cuomo signed the Green Light Law and joined 14 other states and the Washington D.C. in allowing undocumented persons to obtain driver’s licenses. However, Homeland Security opposes the laws. Thus, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf announced that some 800,000 people will be suspended from the TTP over the next five years. There will be almost 90,000 New Yorkers impacted immediately and barred from programs like Global Entry. Changes will often not occur until the date of renewal for such programs. Cuomo is pledging a lawsuit over the changes.
As with sanctuary cities and ICE detainer conflicts, the travel ban sets up 2020 as an election on immigration policies like no other in modern political history. The only thing that is clear, again, is someone is really, really wrong.

As a RE investor myself, I know of Federal laws for that, which lowered by taxable income that I was required to pay a state, but never city. I would be interested in learning about those so maybe I could take advantage of those same laws. Thanks,

Trump’s first major investment, back in the early 80’s (largely financed by his father) concerned the old Commodore Hotel near Grand Central Station. The City of New York granted Trump generous tax incentives to make that project happen. That deal became something of a template for a long string of Trump investments.
I understand the real estate business often concerns special tax deals. Still I wouldnt trust anyone who turns on former partners.
I wouldn’t trust a state that turns it’s back on federal laws and worse yet a federal law for which the Feds were built upon.
If I remember correctly NYC was in deep financial trouble at the time and few were building. Had the city of NY not given tax incentives Trump and others might not have built and the city’s financial circumstances would have gotten worse.

They already have his state returns and Federal returns to support his state returns. That is how it is done in the state I live in. You are dead wrong with this information. As a holder of a SENTRI pass for more than 12 years, conditions for obtaining and renewing these TRUSTED TRAVELER privileges is that the applicant have no misdemeanor or felony convictions, ie DUI, spouse abuse, child support, etc.
DHS is refusing to process applicants because NY won’t comply with the DHS requirements. It has nothing to do with drivers licenses to illegals.

A responsible immigration system would:
1. Weed out criminals and terrorists

The Press has ignored Democrats HR 5385 which is extreme and radical. It says anyone can come to the US – no laws, no proof of citizenship, no background check will be required if Democrats win and vote in this law It eliminates any concept of someone “illegally” immigrating and, unlike any other country, would allow anyone to come to the US without background checks or following our laws.
And the details of this absurd bill proposed by Democrats are frightening.

In many cases, this includes manslaughter. Even if convicted of a crime such as murder, rape or kidnapping Democrats’ HR 5385 proposal allows judges to change the sentencing.

The Democrats bill is retroactive. It allows anyone deported to come back if they would have been eligible under the provisions of the new law. It appears to force the American taxpayer to pay for deported criminals to come back and American taxpayers are on the hook for their plane tickets.
Once here, Democrats HR 5385 will permit these illegal immigrants to l get free health care and live in sanctuary cities where they are not even likely to be convicted of crimes committed.
Electing Democrats this year will be a catastrophe. ALL of them have made public commitments to support free social services for illegals and now with the bill so many of them support our immigration policy and management will be destroyed. Note, Democratic politicians are engaged in all sorts of actions to prevent the enforcement of extant immigration law, because enforcing the law reduces the yield of the Democratic Party vote farm. The whole point of what they are doing is to reduce the influence of social sectors they despise (see Binyamin Applebaum’s remarks on LSU). This is a TWANLOC problem. This will not end well.
Of course, in a sane world, you invest the resources you need to invest to enforce your immigration law, because unauthorized entry and settlement is an existential threat to your polity. When a country cares for itself, new settlers meet strict criteria: they must add to the country’s skill set in real time and they must not (now or in the future) generate social fragmentation (especially social fragmentation that has a political dimension). When you have political entrepreneurs mobilizing settler populations on ethnic lines, you’re doing it wrong.
There has been a large push over the years to put an end to us having a “standard” to hold ourselves to. Hell, you can’t even ask a boy to be a boy anymore let alone an illegal immigrant to be an American.

2. Again, it’s gratuitous to resettle refugees in occidental countries unless there’s a long-term situation which prevents repatriation. That does not apply in regard to the internal disorders of Syria or Libya. It did apply during the Cold War to residents of East Bloc countries, which were prison societies for a period of four decades. In the ordinary course of events, refugees should be cared for in camps proximate to their countries of origin, with a view to their repatriation. (There are always edge cases, alas).
The theoretical value of trade in factors of production has been demonstrated (by George Borjas, among others) to sum to diddly / squat in practical terms. (IIRC, Borjas estimated in articles published 20-odd years ago that labor migration added 0.1% of the gross domestic product each year). The costs and benefits are not evenly distributed, and the people injured are those with the most modest quanta of human capital.
Most occidental countries suffer fertility deficits and benefit from some immigration pipeline to avoid ill effects of later cohorts being smaller than earlier ones. Countries with persistent problems (like Portugal) might use immigration in this way. However, you do need to do your best to boost domestic fertility first, such as amendments to tax codes, welfare policy, educational policy, family law, and land-use regulation.
