Separation Anxiety? Biden Walks Back From His Claim That He Was Arrested In Seeking Visit With Nelson Mandela

After weeks of confusion, Joe Biden’s campaign have finally admitted that he was not arrested while visiting Nelson Mandela. Biden has made some false claims in the past but this was particularly bizarre. No one had any record of such a historic arrest in South Africa. While Biden did not take responsibility personally for the exaggeration, his deputy campaign manager admitted today that Biden was not arrested but merely “separated from his party at the airport.” That is a bit of a nose bleed of a step down from an arrest with Mandela to an airport separation. Hard to imagine how you confuse the two since one ordinarily involves custody, cuffs, and confinement.

The claim of the arrest was viewed as a pitch to help Biden’s campaign in South Carolina but was widely ridiculed. The problem is that Biden identified his own witness in his account by noting that “I had the great honor of being arrested with our U.N. ambassador on the streets of Soweto trying to get to see [Mandela] on Robben Island.”

However, Andrew Young, who was the U.N. Ambassador at the time, stated “No, I was never arrested and I don’t think he was, either.”

The campaign then tried to explain but only made the claim more offensive that Biden would suggest that he was arrested in South Africa during apartheid: “It was a separation. They, he was not allowed to go through the same door that the — the rest of the party he was with. Obviously, it was apartheid South Africa. There was a white door, there was a black door. He did not want to go through the white door and have the rest of the party go through the black door. He was separated. This was during a trip while they were there in Johannesburg.”

So Biden remembers separation in going through an airport door as an arrest in the cause of freeing Mandela in South Africa?

Biden has been challenged about past statements like his claiming that he Biden had traveled to Konar province in Afghanistan to give a Silver Star on a Navy captain who refused the medal, because his friend didn’t survive. The Washington Post reported that it “never happened” and said “as he campaigns for president, Joe Biden tells a moving but false war story.”

Biden was also recently challenged for saying that Biden he worked on the Paris Climate Accord with former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, who died 19 years before the agreement was signed.

This story however is even more insulting to those who honor the memory of Mandela. It is akin to claiming to have marched with Dr. King because you walked through an airport with him on one occasion. There is a big difference between being separated at an airport and being arrested in South Africa in the same cause as Nelson Mandela.

Yet, it is notable that CNN spent exclusive coverage on “how important is the endorsement of Rep. James Clyburn” to Biden in South Carolina rather than this astonishing claim and belated admission about Nelson Mandela.

  1. Egad, there I was hunting lions in Botswana, wearing nothing but a loin cloth and armed only with a spear, ready to take on the king of beast. Major Hoople.

    1. Anonymous – I saw a piece where they tracked Corn Pop down and he is dead, so he cannot support or deny any of Biden’s claims. However, he did exist.

        1. Anonymous – if I have the timeline straight, “bad dude” CornPop was a year younger than Creepy Joe, who was going to go after him with a length of chain opposed to CornPop’s straight-edge razor. Actually, CornPop probably would have had a switchblade and Creepy Joe would have had stained shorts.

      1. Objection, hearsay….inadmissible. Can you prove that the piece is/was trustworthy? Has it been authenticated, or is it self-authenticating, Paul?

        1. WW33 – it appears to be an obit of person that Biden is smearing after they are dead. How much credit you give it is up to you. Personally, I do not give much credit to anything Biden says these days. Biden and his people seem to just be making s**t up.

          1. PCS – Well, no defamation for dead ppl…you have a good argument there.

But could be perceived as “bad form” to smear a dead person…

  2. It’s like Trump has never told a fabrication or a lie. Turley is racking up the big bucks with CPAC. Another look over here from Turley.

  3. Don’t forget the speech he gave in 1987 where he recounted his family history. Trouble was, it was lifted word for word from a speech by Neil Kinnock (whose family history was nothing like Biden’s). He’s a hollow man and none too scrupulous for ‘a that.

  4. the one thing that does not seem to get mentioned – and based only on a quick look at a few South African web sites: Soweto and Robben Island appear to be hours apart

  5. I’m remembering Keith Albow’s post-mortem on a Bribem debate performance some years back. He said that if a patient came into his office babbling like that, he’d do a dementia work up.

    1. Keith Albow [sic]…

      LOL. Ablow is a joke.

      From his Wikipedia page:

      Medical ethics

The Associated Press has reported that Ablow “freely mixes psychiatric assessments with political criticism, a unique twist in the realm of cable news commentary that some medical colleagues find unethical.”[6] Ablow has, for instance, frequently diagnosed former President Barack Obama as having “abandonment issues,” without ever having met or treated the former president.[6] He has asserted that Obama dislikes the United States, that he prefers Africa to the United States, and wants the United States to dissolve.[6] He publicly speculated, in an October 2012 Huffington Post op-ed that then-Vice President Joe Biden had dementia after his 2012 VP debate performance.[33]

Ford Vox, a staff physiatrist at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, said that Ablow’s attempts to connect his political views to medical analysis “is really just irresponsible and it’s embarrassing for physicians in general.”[6] Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, chairman of psychiatry at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, and past president of the American Psychiatric Association, remarked, “It is shameful and unfortunate that he is given a platform by Fox News or any other media organization. Basically he is a narcissistic self-promoter of limited and dubious expertise.”[6]

      Sexual assault allegations

On February 21, 2019, the Boston Globe reported that Ablow had been accused by multiple patients and employees of sexual assault and harassment; three malpractice lawsuits by former patients allege physical and verbal abuse, and three former employees filed affidavits claiming threatening and abusive behavior.[34] The lawsuits were settled out-of-court in the summer of 2019.[35]

On May 15, 2019, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine indefinitely suspended Ablow’s medical license, concluding he posed an “immediate and serious threat to the public health, safety and welfare.”[5] New York state has also suspended Ablow’s medical license in that state.[5][36]

      DEA raid

On February 13, 2020, Ablow’s office in Newburyport, Massachusetts was raided by Drug Enforcement Administration agents executing a search warrant. He has denied allegations of inappropriate sexual activity with patients and illegally diverting prescription drugs.[37]

It is alleged that Ablow prescribed medication to eight employees. When the Board of Registration in Medicine rescinded his license in 2019, they also claimed Ablow asked the employees to share the medication with him.[38]

  6. I nominate Biden’s deputy manager for Best Original Scriptwriter in a comedy.

Question: How long is the campaign going to pretend that Joe is not lost in senility? Why not construct a fake Oval Office and Lincoln bedroom at his home, and tell him he won…….Then everybody would be happy.

    1. Cindy Bragg – if Biden is elected, he will be the first President they used the 25th Amendment on and they will use it right after they swear him in.

  7. Biden is nothing if not a raconteur. “There I was, visiting my blood brother Nelson Mandela in a South African airport, when I was arrested by pygmies. While running for the United States Senate. On my way to the Ukraine… “

  8. Influential House Democrat calls chaotic South Carolina debate a ‘disgrace’

“It was a disgrace,” Dingell, who has deep ties in the Democratic Party and in swing-state Michigan, said Wednesday. “It was a circular firing squad. They’re forgetting about what we need to be focused on.
“They’re contributing to the fear and hatred in this country. I’m sure Russia and China were delighted at their performance.”

It was disgusting. They [talked over] each other. They fought each other. They came with lines to destroy each other,” Dingell said.

“They are all strong candidates,” said Dingell, who hasn’t endorsed a candidate yet, “but if they keep tearing each other apart, they are helping each other make sure none of them are strong at the top of the ticket.”

We will wait for Peter Shill to plaster Professor Turley’s blog with his favorite Fake News sites to blame Trump with whataboutisms and other left-wing bubble babblings

    1. ““It was a disgrace,” Dingell, who has deep ties in the Democratic Party and in swing-state Michigan, said Wednesday. “It was a circular firing squad. They’re forgetting about what we need to be focused on.”

Trump will have the advantage of having cleaned up the civil rights mess made by Joe Biden’s mandatory minimum sentences and gotten capitalism to work – more than Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders or the other global warming chiliasts in the race have been able to do with socialism.

  9. I found this hilarious comment at Free Republic:
    ———–
I was arrested the last time I went to Disneyland. It angers me to this day. I really think I should sue them.

Oh, wait. I just got into the wrong line while waiting for a ride. Never mind.

  10. I will be charitable to Biden and allow that he may truly have thought he was arrested with Mandela.

He also thought he was running for Senate and if you don’t like him vote for the ‘other’ Biden whom I am still waiting to see come out of the wings. Probably hanging out in one of Obama’s 57 states where is in a platoon of Marine Corpse.

I don’t think he is a lying, horse-faced pony soldier, but he is not well oriented as to time or place or occasion.

Hard to believe this poor loon is one of the more electable Democrats this season.

Russians would probably like him, though.

    1. Yes, wearing motley, wearing one of those Harley Quinn belled caps as he earnestly utters nonsense for Czar Putin and his court.

      1. I love the Cornpop story, I have my own very character based first person renditions of it…word on the street is Trix is a bad mamma jamma. 😉

    1. That, or the hoofbeats of four hundred slavering wildebeest thundering down the airport concourse where Biden, his son and Nelson Mandela were arrested by “Pik” Botha on their way to pin a medal on Steve Biko. In Soweto. During a blizzard.

Seriously, where’s that Harvard psychiatrist who wants to enforce the 25th amendment on Trump when Biden’s tossing word salad before open mike in South Carolina? Biden goes beyond being pre-impeachable (when he made a splendid case for his own impeachment as vice-president by confessing to running interference for Burisma Holdings just before they hired his son), to pre-certifiable for epic spells of confabulation.

Not even stable, nor a genius. Joe Biden’s allure to the Democratic Party seems to be that he’s no threat for the Nobel Prize in anything.
