“Jesus Died With COVID-19”: Arkansas Church Refuses To Close During Pandemic

We have been discussing churches holding mass services in defiance of orders for people to stay at home and avoid groups of larger than 10 people. Some of the churches insist that faith alone can protect against the virus. Now, the Awaken Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas has not only announced that it would remain open for services but assured the faithful that “Jesus died with COVID-19 so you didn’t have to bear it.”

The Church cites 2 Corinthians 5:21:

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Obviously, the church is not saying that Jesus actually had COVID-19. The Church posted that “The Bible tells us that Jesus took on every sin, sickness and every disease . . . Jesus bore it so you wouldn’t have to. Salvation provided forgiveness and healing . . . if you’ll believe it, you can receive it!” but its decision to stay open is based on a literal reading not of the bible but the public order. The church also said on Facebook that

“The Dept of Health has stated that all gatherings of ten or more do not apply to houses of worship and yet suggest to follow CDC safe practices, of which we are doing.

“For us to not have services due to a virus would be for us to go against our extremely strong convictions of the power of God to protect and the power of God to heal. Jesus knew the world He was sending us into contained sickness and disease. Instead of telling us to retreat from sickness, He told us to go into the world and to heal the sick.”

Pastor Chad Gonzales has posted claims of faith healing in the past, including repeated cures of “short leg.”

Unlike some, the Church is encouraging “those that are elderly, have weakened immune systems and/or those that have any concerns for their well-being” to stay at home. The problem is that the virus is spread by asymptomatic carriers who are unlikely to know that they are carriers.

In my view, states can close churches since online services are available. These pastors may well thin the ranks of the faithful by resisting the advice of health care professionals.

  1. “VIRGINIA PASTOR DIES FROM CORONAVIRUS AFTER PREVIOUSLY SAYING ‘MEDIA IS PUMPING OUT FEAR’ ABOUT PANDEMIC”

“So far, at least one such prominent person — a Virginia pastor who publicly called the coronavirus a “mass hysteria” — has died after contracting the virus. Unfortunately, the Trump-inspired middle finger to social distancing rules isn’t just a threat to the conspiracy theorists. They’re also potentially turning themselves into vectors who can infect ordinary people who aren’t willing to put their lives on the line to defend Donald Trump.”

      1. “Why isn’t that POS Dr Fauci under house arrest”

said by another stupid crazy american

          1. “Fauci is among the worst human trash on the planet.”

            Spell it out then, okie.

          1. a month later, the most amazing part of that interview was the stuff about why arent they telling us to wear masks?

great questions from the lawyer and alex jones

FINALLY today a month later they state the obvious, CDC now tells people wear masks, wow.

            1. “FINALLY today a month later they state the obvious, CDC now tells people wear masks, wow.”

It was a supply issue. We didn’t have enough masks.

              1. “It was a supply issue. We didn’t have enough masks.”

Because criminals in white lab coats at places like CDC, NIH,HHS, Fema, DHS were busy trying to make their latest cooked up bio weapons was spreading further by actions like allowing foreigners into the country after they knew this Bio Weapon was here.

Either that or they are just to Stupid to understand Logistics.

Imagine, if these morons were in charge in WW2 the US trumps going up against Hitler’s army would have had guns but no bullets for them, no Food & nothing to wipe the butts with.

And what are you going to do when these same Aholes release their next Bio Weapons in the next few months?

              2. I have a few masks, i got them to protect others…from me… No joke. I was coughing so hard last Nov 2019, I had sputum droplets splattered across my entire windshield, and kept having to clean it repetitively. I figured i might spit on someone accidentally if I didn’t wear it. I got my voice back, and my breathing too, eventually, very strange mysterious “flu.”

            2. I think it was 2 days ago Fauci made a comment that these illegal govt house arrest lock downs should continue until no one was sick.

              Forever I guess?

I spent a great deal of time recently calling politicians aids to tell the polecats this crap cannot & will not continue.

  2. Bishop Robert Barron offers a stunning sermon on this year’s Palm Sunday readings that we heard this morning as a family before breakfast. He was in rare form and we were in awe at what he said and how he said it. ¡Mucho corazón!

If you wish to hear a message that contrasts with the cacophony the world is offering, give your ears, mind and heart a treat.

    INTO THE CACOPHONY OF SIN
    https://www.wordonfire.org/resources/homily/into-the-cacophony-of-sin/534/

On Palm Sunday, we are privileged to listen to one of the great Passion narratives. In Matthew’s account, we see Jesus as a still-point in the maelstrom, as God’s fidelity amidst a cacophony of sin. In the course of the Passion, Jesus confronts betrayal, laziness, violence, untruth, abuse of power, self-destruction, and wanton cruelty—the whole panoply of human dysfunction. And he takes away this sin precisely by his obedience and his mercy.

    1. Say the decadent Satanist.

Notice many of the Blue state demon run Crapholes by edict declare going to church is non-essential to attempt to force the citizens not to attend but the Planned Parenthood Abortion Murder factories are declared essential and can stay open.

We shall know them by their demonic deeds!

  4. Humans get religion ground into their brains with the notion of faith drilled into them by mommy and daddy at age day one. If faith is first then any stupid notion of Christ on the cross and divine intervention can take hold.
    Americans are full of BS.

  5. The real problem is not what people are doing, it’s that the world really doesn’t know that much about the virus. For one thing, testing is only of people who are symptomatic (unless they go to a commercial lab.) Consequently, we don’t know what the real consequences are. The CDC and WHO say that most cases are mild and many don’t know they have it. I live in a county that is currently reporting 221 cases. Furthermore, they have broken down the county to show where the cases are based on percentages. I live in an area where 25% of the cases are from, meaning over 50 cases. I am in the high risk category with an underlying medical condition and am over 60. I currently have nasal congestion and may have a slight fever. I was at the VA hospital and my local VA clinic twice two and three weeks ago where I was asked questions and had my temperature taken. I very may well have a very mild case of the virus or I may have allergies but there is no reason for me to go in for testing unless my fever increases. The media is hyping the situation, concentrating on deaths without recognizing that some 8,000 people die in America EVER DAY!!! They never mention that most people who have it don’t even know because it’s mild. Yes local authorities in most cases – a county judge who is an Indian immigrant in my county – are issuing orders that are in violation of our Constitutional rights. The judge in the neighboring county is Colombian. Our governor has issued recommendations but not orders, The orders are coming from local authorities who, in nearly ever case, are Democrats. That’s the real problem. We’re in danger of having our rights stripped from us and our livelihoods taken away in the name of public health.

  6. For us to not have services due to a virus would be for us to go against our extremely strong convictions of the power of God to protect and the power of God to heal…the Church is encouraging “those that are elderly, have weakened immune systems and/or those that have any concerns for their well-being” to stay at home.

Apparently their convictions don’t extend to the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems.

  7. Constitution and Bill of Rights?

We don’t need no stinking Constitution and Bill of Rights!

Just as the financial “experts” know better than “Mr. Market” (the aggregate of investors), the communist “academics” and “intellectuals” know better than “Mr. Freedom” (the aggregate of free people).

    Right?

    Wong!

The People are the Sovereign. Government is the Subject of the Sovereign. A tyrannical government, hijacked by a collectivist, communist dictatorship, cannot be considered legitimate but in need of alteration.

  8. I live near the Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn NY. They found out the hard way that gathering was not such a good idea. Many have passed away. God asks us to use our heads and be respectful of others. I would assume that means stay away and don’t infect others needlessly. Hopefully God will put in the minds of the scientists a cure for the infection. There are so many options to gathering and praying for one another. I am glad to stay at home and Duo or Zoom my meetings and friends. Please don’t infect other needlessly.

  9. Unfortunately, the ‘Catholic’ episcopate in this country has adopted Prof. Turley’s attitude, so confession and the last rites are broadly unavailable to the moribund faithful.

    1. The faithful had to be herded into confession every spring before Easter anyhow. We used to go to one service every lent where they would have about ten priests on hand for a fast overview of the sins. Same thing at Advent.
A lot of people would show up for those but they were heavily promoted,. On Saturday mornings the usual confession time it was mostly empty. I don’t go to confession anymore because the major sins I’m guilty of, I’m not remorseful about anyways. I guess I am a bad person. But you guys probably guessed that already.

Anyhow, last rites are plenty available in the Midwest. The older priests are getting a respite from that duty, however.

  10. These are stupid people, but they are hardly alone. The “other side” is just as delusional – believing that your sex is a matter of self-identification and that babies just minutes from delivery are not really human beings. And a host of other stupid stuff.

That’s the problem with stupidity. It does not just contain itself to one group. Like my uncle said,( or was it my father???) “Stupidness is ubiquitous.”

  11. Religion is the opiate of the people. Pastors have crowns on their heads.

  12. Online services are fine in urban areas but suck in rural areas. I agree they should keep the churches open but practice social distancing.

  13. People keep saying this….”in my view they can close these churchs and just have services online.”

Okay so why are we still having in person press briefings almost daily….with the same doctors recommending everyone should stay at home. Do you think the reporters need to be in the room to ask questions? Let alone to broadcast out to the world? They really really don’t. People at all levels are remarkably inconsistent when it comes to quarantining so I’m just over it at this point. People should just do what they want because that’s what they are doing anyway.

  14. Churches are holding services but they are NOT MASSES! As far as I know, Catholic Churches in substantially all if not all dioceses have stopped holding formal services of any kind masses included. In this area at least the Catholic Church is doing the right thing.

The churches holding services are lead by lunatics who most probably support Trump and his evangelical cronies. They don’t care who dies as long as the money continues to flow!

    1. The priests continue to celebrate Mass every day just not having parishioners come. In Catholic and Orthodox Churches It’s important that they keep celebrating Mass and they are doing exactly that. This is their duty and the concept of salvation for Catholics and Orthodox are more group-orientated and this is what the priests are doing for the flock, keeping it going, even if the faithful have to stay home. They earn merits for us that are, to use a Buddhist expression, good shared karma.

The Catholic and Orthodox Churches have a history of cooperating with the reasonable demands of the state. They are not subversive of the public authorities which have been ordained. Ordained means, essentially, what Divine Providence has established above us. I realize this thinking sounds antiquated but after all it does precede the Enlightenment by at least a millennium or so.

The Catholic and Orthodox Churches endured through worse plagues than this and you can be sure they won’t be disappearing any time soon. In spite of all their failures, which are many.

  15. This shows how some people have mistaught the scripture. The “church” is not a building.
