Red Flags: Chinese Laboratory in Wuhan Cited Two Years Ago For Dangerous Research On Bats and Coronavirus

1600px-Coronaviruses_004_loresWhen the coronavirus first appeared in Wuhan, China, many people immediately raised the concern that it might have been the result of a lab release from a controversial Chinese Lab: the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The lab was working on coronavirus and had raised concerns over its containment protocols.  Then there was the fact that China hid the outbreak, arrested top doctors, and buried research on its origins.  However, a narrative quickly emerged in countering President Donald Trump’s references to the “China virus.”  People, including members of Congress, who referred to the lab were ridiculed on CNN and other outlets as conspiracy theorists.  For some of us, the overwhelming media narrative seemed odd and artificial. It would seem obvious that a lab working on viruses in this area would be an obvious possible source.  Now, after weeks of chastising those who mentioned the lab theory, another cache of documents and information shows that there are ample reasons to be suspicious and that concerns were raised two years ago within the State Department.

The Washington Post reported  that embassy officials in January 2018 alerted U.S. officials of serious problems in the lab which was conducting risky research on bats, the very source of COVIT-19. The United Kingdom has issued a statement  that they are seriously considering the lab as a possible source.

The first cable on Jan.19, 2018 flagged serious problems at a lab dealing with the world’s most dangerous viruses:  “During interactions with scientists at the WIV laboratory, they noted the new lab has a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory.”

The cables discuss Shi Zhengli, the head of the research project, who in November 2017 published a paper on horseshoe bats collected from a case in Yunnan province. That is the same bat population behind the first SARS coronavirus in 2003.  The cable stated

“the researchers also showed that various SARS-like coronaviruses can interact with ACE2, the human receptor identified for SARS-coronavirus. This finding strongly suggests that SARS-like coronaviruses from bats can be transmitted to humans to cause SARS-like diseases. From a public health perspective, this makes the continued surveillance of SARS-like coronaviruses in bats and study of the animal-human interface critical to future emerging coronavirus outbreak prediction and prevention.”

Sound familiar?
The point is not that this proves that the virus originated in the lab. Rather, my interest is the overwhelming media narrative that emerged to deny that this was a credible potential source.  That narrative emerged around the time that the media was hammering Trump for his use of “China virus” and “Wuhan virus.”  That criticism was enhanced by the argument that the virus developed naturally.  That could still be the case but it never seemed rational to me to discount the lab theory.
What is most amazing is that, if the Chinese allowed this virus to escape and then arrested doctors raising the alarm over the spread, it would be one of the greatest stories of our lifetime: a world pandemic caused by human error.  Millions have been infected and thousands have died. If the cause was negligence by a totalitarian nation (that ignored warnings and punished doctors), this would be a story of the century. Suddenly magazines care saying that they are now thinking about the “unthinkable.”  Yet, it was never truly unthinkable was it?
Yesterday, CNN aired stories on the cables without acknowledging that its prior coverage dismissing the theory.  CNN was not alone.  This is why the public has lost such faith in the media.  It is not because the media has confronted Trump, who often makes reckless and false statements.  It is the sense of the coverage is being shaped constantly shaped an agenda separate from the merits of these stories.  Many commentators and journalists worked too hard to dismiss the lab as a potential source.  When members of Congress raised the theory, they were mocked as “still” talking about a theory that groups declared as wholly invalid.

There is a story here. Not just on whether the lab was the source of the outbreak but whether the media blinded itself to that possibility.

  1. Jonathan: There is a lot of speculation rampant about the source of the coronavirus. Conspiracy theories abound that it escaped from a biowarfare lab in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Trump has hyped Chinese responsibility calling COVID-19 the “Chinese virus” to divert attention from his slow, chaotic and ill-informed response to the pandemic. People within the Trump administration are trying hard to find “evidence” to bolster the theory that the virus originated in a Chinese lab. So far they have come up empty handed.

That doesn’t stop the speculation and now, even you, have jumped on board the little band of conspirators with your own hyperbole: “If the cause was negligence by a totalitarian nation (that ignored warnings and punished doctors), this would be a story of the century”. Then you accuse the media of ignoring this “story of the century” because it has “blinded itself to that possibility”. So blame the media. That’s the tried and true “trump” card.! Instead of speculation, let’s consult with the science experts. Cornell’s “Alliance for Science” says: “…don’t be fooled. Whether the virus first infested humans at the infamous Wuhan ‘wet market’ or somehow took a more complicated route via a so far unidentified Chinese laboratory, the ultimate source of the novel coronavirus is still the same: wild populations of bats”. Scientists writing in “Nature Medicine” say “we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible”.

So where is your science based evidence that the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab? We’re waiting Jonathan.

    1. “So where is your science based evidence that the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab?”

      Yes, good question.

If it originated in a lab, does it necessarily follow that it would have to be a Chinese lab? Is this a case of cui bono or a cui bono fallacy? Edward Bernays might also have some ideas about this.

Or, it all could just be an unfortunate case of a bad bowl of bat soup.

    2. Excellent points. As I recall, though, the first Chinese cases that were traced all had ties to that Wuham wet market. Plus, the lab deficiencies were 2 years ago, and there wasn’t an outbreak then. Of course, none of this excuses Trump’s lying and failure to heed warnings.

      1. The first case was a man that had no connection to the market, dig a bit deeper

    3. If the virus is sourced in nature and a random act, why are the Chinese so evasive?

  2. The backup goat (or goat’s back, if you prefer) threatened to adjourn congress so he can appoint some more morons to positions of power.

Breathlessly waiting for Turley’s commentary today.

  3. John: When do you stop your “I’m a Democrat nonsense.” Are you a Democrat is ome “other worldly” sense? The DEM(agogues) are for their own power and tyranny at any cost!

  4. If somebody associated with this website reads this, make replies to comments more noticeable that they are actually replies to individual comments rather than a reply to the article. Hard to follow the thread otherwise.

  5. At this time, it’s not really productive to look into how it started, that can be done later.

What’s vitally important *right now* is to get more tests & PPE. In case anyone realizes that’s a better use of time, urge the media to ask tough, specific questions about getting more tests/PPE.

For instance, if a reporter only asks weak questions that generate a predictable response, email/tweet them pointing out they need to do a better job.

Demand they ask pointed questions like “how many tests will you get to NYC this week?” If/when they won’t, point out to their fans that they refuse to really put officials on the spot about specific goals.

Hold the media accountable on something that can’t wait.

  6. Yes, much pointless bickering this thread.

Noise to signal ratio much too high.

  7. There is a story here. Not just on whether the lab was the source of the outbreak but whether the media blinded itself to that possibility.

Once again….SARS Coronavirus has been researched, articles published in medical science journals, and alarms have been sounded for almost 2 decades. As recently as 2015, American researchers from UNC Chapel Hill published a thoroughly lucid and alarming manuscript that was worrisome then and prescient for today.

Menachery, V., Yount, B., Debbink, K. et al. A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence. Nat Med 21, 1508–1513 (2015). https://doi.org/10.1038/nm.3985

    Behind a paywall, excerpt follows:

Coupled with the observation of previously identified pathogenic CoV back-bones, our results suggest that the starting materials required for SARS-like emergent strains are currently circulating in animal reservoirs. Notably, although full-length SHC014-CoV probably requires additional backbone adaption to mediate human disease, the documented high-frequency recombination events in CoV families underscores the possibility of future emergence and the need for further preparation.

Importantly, the failure of available therapeutics defines a critical need for further study and for the development of treatments. With this knowledge, surveillance programs, diagnostic reagents and effective treatments can be produced that are protective against the emergence of group 2b–specific CoVs, such as SHC014, and these can be applied to other CoV branches that maintain similarly heterogeneous pools.

In addition to offering preparation against future emerging viruses, this approach must be considered in the context of the US government–mandated pause on gain-of-function (GOF) studies.

On the basis of these findings, scientific review panels may deem similar studies building chimeric viruses based on circulating strains too risky to pursue, as increased pathogenicity in mammalian models cannot be excluded. Coupled with restrictions on mouse-adapted strains and the development of monoclonal antibodies using escape mutants, research into CoV emergence and therapeutic efficacy may be severely limited moving forward. Together, these data and restrictions represent a crossroads of GOF research concerns; the potential to prepare for and mitigate future outbreaks must be weighed against the risk of creating more dangerous pathogens.

In developing policies moving forward, it is important to consider the value of the data generated by these studies and whether these types of chimeric virus studies warrant further investigation versus the inherent risks involved.

Overall, our approach has used metagenomics data to identify a potential threat posed by the circulating bat SARS-like CoV SHC014. Because of the ability of chimeric SHC014 viruses to replicate in human airway cultures, cause pathogenesis in vivo and escape cur-rent therapeutics, there is a need for both surveillance and improved therapeutics against circulating SARS-like viruses. Our approach also unlocks the use of metagenomics data to predict viral emergence and to apply this knowledge in preparing to treat future emerging virus infections.

    1. Estovir,
What are your thoughts on serial passage? Could conducting serial passage of bat coronavirus through ferrets potentially lead to the current outbreak strain? If so, would there be any markers that would differentiate between a wild-type mutation and one developed via serial passage?

      1. As in, the opposite of vaccine development? Instead of creating a less virulent strain through in vitro serial passage, create a more virulent one? It could increase the rate of mutations. If this was to develop a zoonotic disease, perhaps simian studies would have been used.

This also could be done to make a coronavirus more impervious to summer heat, when other seasonal strains fade away.

I don’t know if such a process could be tracked and differentiated from natural species jumping, other than some attenuation that happens at the ends. But that might happen anyway if the virus passed through species on its own.

        1. Karen,
“Instead of creating a less virulent strain through in vitro serial passage, create a more virulent one?”

          Like this:
“Mice normally don’t get sick from human SARS viruses, though, even though the virus can replicate at a low rate inside them. Even when mice are genetically engineered so that they can’t develop an immune system, SARS can’t harm them.

So Subbarao and her colleagues that instead of changing the mice, they’d change the virus. They inoculated mice with the SARS virus, gave it a chance to replicate inside them, and then isolated the new viruses to infect new mice.

Over the course of just 15 passages, it changed from a harmless virus into a fatal one. One sniff of SARS was now enough to kill a mouse.”

          https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/phenomena/2011/12/02/making-viruses-the-natural-way/

“If this was to develop a zoonotic disease, perhaps simian studies would have been used.”

Perhaps. Apparently ferrets have a very similar response to infections that affect the respiratory tract, so they have been used in influenza studies and probably others. Would serial passage in vivo and then with human cells be enough to provoke a desired mutation?

“I don’t know if such a process could be tracked and differentiated from natural species jumping, other than some attenuation that happens at the ends. But that might happen anyway if the virus passed through species on its own.”

Right. I do not know much about virology, so I was hoping Estovir, who studies HIV, might have some insights into this research process. I’m not sure what search terms I ought to use to seek such information out on my own. Man, I wish I could download the breadth of virology into my brain as easily as Neo downloaded Kung Fu! 🙂

          1. Hi Rose, did you acquire any of the books I mentioned? Students sometimes use a website called library genesis to locate older edition of texts, inspect ebook versions and then buy the latest hardback edition.

Serial passage happens naturally and artificially (applied evolution) in research labs. In the lab serial passage gave us vaccines and explores pathogenicity of viruses by reassortment of genomes. Recall what we discussed about in vitro vs in vivo. Pathogens are altered in labs and inserted into animals to see if what the genomic alterations did in vitro occur in vivo, e.g. animals.

Pathogens are attenuated so as to introduce them into humans to create an adaptive immune response: vaccines and inoculation. Serial passage in its natural habitat produces human pathogens like Rabies, Ebola, Zika, Influenza (e.g. Avian), and HIV. These viruses all “started” in lower organisms and eventually jumped hosts to humans.

Recall from our previous discussion that a virus is a protein entity. It is not technically an organism because it can not reproduce. However, its sole purpose is to reproduce at the expense of the host. Thusly, it is not surprising that a virus starts at a lower organism and seeks to jump to higher organisms because that is its goal. A virus would thrive in a human as opposed to a palm civet or ferret.

            https://science.sciencemag.org/content/336/6088/1534.full

Proteins are accumulations (peptides) of AA, amino acids. Nucleic acids comprise DNA and RNA. Their bases are synthesized from AA. It takes just one Amino Acid substitution to change a protein and a base pair within a molecule of DNA or RNA, e.g. deadly Marburg Virus

            https://msphere.asm.org/content/3/1/e00401-17

Coronavirus has evolved just like all viruses do (e.g. Influenza strains change yearly) and the most recent SARS-CoV-2 virus has acquired a unique phenotype characterized by spikes. Those spikes allow it to penetrate ACE2 in 2 stages, a very complex yet elegant methodical step into our lungs. Common cold Coronavirus do not have this phenotype for ACE2.

It is fascinating and instructive in how it has evolved just like HIV from SIV.

Did the virus escape from a lab in Wuhan? I have seen no evidence of that. If it did come from a lab in Wuhan, were the Communists Chinese trying to unleash a biohazard in the world? Did they take a virus from a bat, use Gain of Function genomics, insert into a Ferret and then it escaped the back door? Most researchers aren’t preoccupied with ruining the world. Science Researchers usually want to find funding for their work, get published, maybe extend and enhance human life, become a prolific writer or expert in their field, e.g. Dr Anthony Fauci, a rare man and a gem of a physician researcher. Researches are not typically involved in such sinister plots. If they ruin the world, who would want to consult them? Joking. The lab researchers in Wuhan may have been studying Coronavirus to bring a vaccine to market. Then again German Nazi scientists gave us lethal weapons such as Sarin. But they were diabolical people and those exist in all strata of society. I cant speak to the scientists in Wuhan. Their political leaders however are diabolical and sinister like Communists that they are.

Recommendation: stick to evidenced based data. CNN, MSNBC, NYT, Wash Post, FOX NEWS, Breitbart, Drudge Report, Rush Limbaugh, et al are really poisonous. They spread fake news and hence virulent toxins into our culture. Not even wearing a mask and gloves would protect you from their mutated genetic material. Don’t poison your mind with conspiracy theories and negativity in general. Avoid them like the plague (pun intended). Use your free time constructively by studying the beauty of science like immunology, virology and biochemistry.

Dr Thomas Lewis MD wrote a series of articles in the 1970s that were collected together into a book entitled “The Lives of a Cell”. The beauty that lives within our cells, as Dr Lewis described, is more true today than the 1970s because we have learned so much more about the inner machinations that run our cells. Focus on that, along with your other chores, and you might see how much beauty exists all around us and, to quote Fr Gerard Manly Hopkins, SJ, “God’s Grandeur”.

            God’s Grandeur
Launch Audio in a New Window

            BY GERARD MANLEY HOPKINS
The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
                It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
            Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
                And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

            And for all this, nature is never spent;
                There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

            1. Esotvir,
Thank you for your thoughtful response. The Medical Microbiology book is on its way. I had not heard of library genesis; I will look into it. I also appreciate The Living Cell recommendation and the poem by Hopkins.

I agree that most researchers are not interested in creating offensive bioweapons. I also am quite skeptical of most of the information peddled by mainstream media as well as pundits. I am concerned about the underlying agendas which, unfortunately, are not necessarily geared toward seeking or conveying truth. I am concerned about different entities attempting to steer Americans (and other citizenry) toward their desired ‘conclusions’.

“Did they take a virus from a bat, use Gain of Function genomics, insert into a Ferret and then it escaped the back door?”

Is GOF genomics necessarily a required precursor to serial passage research, though? Do pathogens have to be tweaked prior to infecting animals?

“Coronavirus has evolved just like all viruses do (e.g. Influenza strains change yearly) and the most recent SARS-CoV-2 virus has acquired a unique phenotype characterized by spikes.”

How recent was that evolution, though? The literature has SARS-coronaviruses demonstrating affinity for ACE2 since 2004 at least.

J Pathol. 2004 Jun;203(2):631-7. Tissue distribution of ACE2 protein, the functional receptor for SARS coronavirus. A first step in understanding SARS pathogenesis. Hamming I1, Timens W, Bulthuis ML, Lely AT, Navis G, van Goor H. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15141377

And, as recently as 2006, it was demonstrated that ferret ACE2 responds very similarly to human ACE2 when exposed to SARS-COV.

Adv Exp Med Biol. 2006;581:519-22. Identification of ferret ACE2 and its receptor function for SARS-coronavirus. Zamoto A1, Taguchi F, Fukushi S, Morikawa S, Yamada YK. DOI: 10.1007/978-0-387-33012-9_93

I love learning about science. As you can see by my sources, I aim to learn from textbooks and journal articles.

“Don’t poison your mind with conspiracy theories and negativity in general.”

It is good to be cautious and it is good to look towards the Light. But. What is the truth? Sometimes conspiracies are true. Sometimes the media and government(s) try to steer people towards a particular agenda. Sometimes the truth is ugly. If the truth is an unfortunate bowl of bat soup, so be it. If it is otherwise, ‘and ye shall know the truth’…

    1. for a guy who likes to check sources you sure laid up there a not that impressive source

the article was comprehensive and at least makes a good roundup of links, not bad for a bookmark, but flawed in several of its premises. not really worth dissecting more than that

Hitler named Time Magazine’s “Man of the Year”

On this day in 1938 Adolf Hitler was awarded “Man of the Year” by Time Magazine in its annual issue. Time’s selection of “Man of the Year,” which has since been renamed to “Person of the Year,” dates back to 1927 with Charles Lindbergh being the first person to receive the title. Though giving Hitler the award had been seen as a controversial choice, Time has since given the recognition to other controversial figures such as Joseph Stalin, Osama Bin Laden, Ayatollah Khomeini, and Donald Trump. The publication claims to pick it’s recipients by analyzing how much coverage they had in the media over a given year.

  8. Trump Praised China 15 Times Throughout January And February

POLITICO has compiled a list of 15 times the president hailed China for its push to prevent a pandemic in the early months of 2020 — an effort that ultimately failed:

    Jan. 22, Twitter:

“One of the many great things about our just signed giant Trade Deal with China is that it will bring both the USA & China closer together in so many other ways. Terrific working with President Xi, a man who truly loves his country. Much more to come!”

    Jan. 24, Twitter:

“China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!”

Jan. 29, Remarks at signing ceremony for the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement:

“And, honestly, I think, as tough as this negotiation was, I think our relationship with China now might be the best it’s been in a long, long time. And now it’s reciprocal. Before, we were being ripped off badly. Now we have a reciprocal relationship, maybe even better than reciprocal for us.”

    Jan. 30, Fox News interview:

“China is not in great shape right now, unfortunately. But they’re working very hard. We’ll see what happens. But we’re working very closely with China and other countries.”

    Feb. 7, Twitter:

February 7: “Just had a long and very good conversation by phone with President Xi of China. He is strong, sharp and powerfully focused on leading the counterattack on the Coronavirus. He feels they are doing very well, even building hospitals in a matter of only days… Great discipline is taking place in China, as President Xi strongly leads what will be a very successful operation. We are working closely with China to help!

Feb. 7, Remarks before Marine One departure:

“Late last night, I had a very good talk with President Xi, and we talked about — mostly about the coronavirus. They’re working really hard, and I think they are doing a very professional job. They’re in touch with World — the World — World Organization. CDC also. We’re working together. But World Health is working with them. CDC is working with them. I had a great conversation last night with President Xi. It’s a tough situation. I think they’re doing a very good job.

    1. “Trump Praised China…”

In the diplomatic world people often speak in a different for a multiplicity of good reasons. Instead of looking at words, look at actions: Jan 31 the Chinese Traveller Ban and before that a ban on air travel from specific Chinese locations.

It’s hard for people to understand how leaders act under certain circumstances when they themselves aren’t leaders. They understandably become confused and sometimes disoriented.

  9. On Sunday the Daily Mail published a short piece that Dr. Fauci authorized the NIH funding ($3.8M?) of research on viruses from bats with a Wuhan lab back in 2017 (wasn’t about the time when Fauci predicted Trump would confront a pandemic in his first term?). One would think with that kind of funding the NIH would obtain periodic updates, reports, studies, etc., such that Dr. Fauci and the NIH would not have been completely caught off guard at the start of this pandemic. Maybe the CPC sanitized all reporting and kept the good doctor in the dark, in which case the US gov should eliminate all funding of organizations where the US gov cannot be assured of veracity and some level of control (e.g., the WHO, the UN, IMF, WTO, etc., etc.).

    1. The same CPC that the Republicans sent US Factories and jobs to in the past 2 or 3 decades? That CPC? The conveyor belt of Republican cash going to businesses in run by the CPC? Is that the CPC you are speaking of, Chuckles?

What is the first law of creating a Viral Weapon? Make a GODDAM anti-virus! Does it look like the “CPC” has a vaccine? So they cavalierly closed down an industrial area with 60 MILLION PEOPLE (2x the Population of Texas)?

An accident? The CPC would close down20 square miles, even cauterize it with napalm if they had to to contain a REAL weapon. One or 2 million dead, no worries for the CPC.

Why make up villainy for the CPC when they have plenty of REAL villainy?

      Grow the hell up.

      1. The same CPC that the Republicans sent US Factories and jobs to in the past 2 or 3 decades?

Your understanding of how and why people invest abroad is less than zero.

  10. This article is what investigative journalism looks like.

“During interactions with scientists at the WIV laboratory, they noted the new lab has a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators to safely operate this high-containment laboratory,” states the Jan. 19, 2018 cable.

“Most importantly,” the cable states, “the researchers also showed that various SARS-like coronaviruses can interact with ACE2, the human receptor identified for SARS-coronavirus.

    1. This is what deceptive journalism looks like. Typical conspiracy theory reporting based on conjecture and ignoring scientific research.

      1. ““During interactions with scientists at the WIV laboratory, they noted the new lab has a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators”

I didn’t read the article presented and am not trying to determine truth or lack of truth, but there were a lot of advertisements by the lab looking for technicians during the time frame. That is documented.

      2. You’re working overtime projecting your intellectual incompetence on anyone and everyone you can find. Try again, and this time try citing evidence.

  11. Notice the concerted, immediate effort by the media and some politicians to dismiss the possible WIV source? Notice how the long standing tradition of naming a virus for its origin was suddenly labeled racist? So well trained and they don’t even know it.

China’s propaganda can be subtle. It sends out its messaging to players that filter it through the SJW channels. Once its origin was claimed to be racist, there were so many naive people, impervious to reason, that took up the propaganda of an abusive government.

The source was either WIV or the wet market. There is no disputing that China hid the outbreak, arrested its own brave doctors who warned the world, only admitted to the WHO when rumors were already out there, denied to the WHO that it could be transmitted person to person when they knew at the time that it could. These actions are directly responsible for allowing this epidemic to become a pandemic.

And for those still carrying water for the human rights abusing Chinese Communist Party…just stop. Naming a virus for its origin is not racist. Exploring both possible sources, the lab and the market, is reasonable.

    1. Karen, no ones carrying water for the Chinese except Trump when it suits him. MSM have done numerous articles on the Chinese lying and hiding facts on the outbreak. Here’s one of them from March 10:

Wuhan officials tried to cover up covid-19 — and sent it careening outward

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/03/10/wuhan-officials-tried-cover-up-covid-19-sent-it-careening-outward/

PS That PC “China Virus” name? You lost. It’s Covid-19 and corona virus 2. Even Trump abandoned that campaign as soon as he talked to Xi on March 26.

      1. Examples of “carrying water for the Chinese”:

        1. Claiming that, all of a sudden, a common name using the origin is racist.
        2. Ignoring the more than dozen other diseases that are also named after their place of origin
        3. Extreme pushback against at least investigating whether WIV was involved in this outbreak.
        4. Claims that condemning China’s attacks on its own doctors fuels racist attacks against ethnic Chinese people.

I don’t think it’s possible for a news organization to ignore China’s coverup. It’s out there. But they are certainly trying to quash the lab story.

I think all leads should be followed up. It might have come from the lab. It might not. With China busily destroying documents (red flag! pun intended), we might never know.

    2. The investigations have been performed, and the origin was not a lab. But keep up the conspiracy theories and racism.

      1. Anonymous – https://www.foxnews.com/politics/coronavirus-wuhan-lab-china-compete-us-sources

EXCLUSIVE: COVID-19 originated in a Wuhan laboratory not as a bioweapon, but as part of China’s effort to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States, multiple sources who have been briefed on the details of early actions by China’s government and seen relevant materials tell Fox News.

This may be the “costliest government coverup of all time,” one of the sources said.

The sources believe the initial transmission of the virus was bat-to-human, and that “patient zero” worked at the laboratory, then went into the population in Wuhan.

        1. On Faux news. Totally conjecture in the article and disproved like so many conspiracies aired on Faux.

        2. Irrelevant and immaterial!!!

China is guilty of witting or unwitting gross dereliction and negligence, if not malice.

China must be sued into insolvency.

          1. I do wonder if China will be held financially liable. This disease is absolutely raging through third world countries. They don’t have enough infrastructure to deal with outbreaks as it is. Some of them are in locations of generations old strife. And now this.

Will China help pay for this? No matter if it spawned organically, or escaped study in a lab due to poor pathogen containment, it is undisputed that China lied, covered up, and punished its own people who tried to warn us.

        3. Exclusive stupidity that is. Favorite channel for the goat king and the lambs following that goat.

      2. “The investigations have been performed”.

Oh? Did China open WIV to international investigation and scrutiny? Open up its lab journals, proprietary software and raw data? Did US officials interview WIF scientists and technicians?

Or did China claim that it was not the source?

  12. Obama endeavored mightily against America while “…fundamentally transforming…” and diluting the United States into a weakened equivalent of third world nations around the world, culminating in Obama’s delivery of $1.8 billion and pallets of untraceable cash to the terrorist state of Iran and the execution of a failed coup d’etat in America.

Obama is the son of an anti-Colonialist, anti-American, radical extremist who was jailed for six months by the British. Obama carried forward and perpetrated the “Dreams from My Father” against America. Obama is the adversarial archetype for the requirement by the Framers “…to provide a strong check to the admission of Foreigners…” into government.

    Obama and China –

The two have brought America to its knees.

    1. @George Obama sent Iran money we owed as discussed at congress.org Congressional research service report RS20871 last updated yesterday. I suppose you think George HW is a traitor for sending them hundreds of millions as part of the same settlement dispute in 1991 which would be equivalent to $600M today?

Speaking of bringing the US to it’s knees, trump had reason to know we were in need of PPE as even his enemy the WHO warned before he sent 18 tons of it to China. He also dismantled the coalition Obama and Bush put together to handle the crisis were currently facing. And now the US is hit harder than any country in the world as we lead in deaths and cases by far. Trump pulled it off in 3.3 years…

      1. Thanks for reading. Obama is a traitor and an enemy of the United States which he continues to be engaged in “…fundamentally transforming.” His words not mine. Obama confessed to his own proven adversity and treason. The Obama Coup D’etat in America attempt continues.
        _____________________

The Obama Coup D’etat in America is the most egregious abuse of power and the most prodigious scandal in American political history.

        The co-conspirators are:

Bill Taylor, Eric Ciaramella, Rosenstein, Mueller/Team, Andrew Weissmann,

Comey, Christopher Wray, McCabe, Strozk, Page, Laycock, Kadzic, Yates,

Steele, Simpson, Joseph Mifsud, Alexander Downer, Stefan “The Walrus” Halper,

Azra Turk, Kerry, Hillary, Huma, Mills, Brennan, Gina Haspel, Clapper, Lerner,

Farkas, Power, Lynch, Rice, Jarrett, Holder, Brazile, Sessions (patsy),

Nadler, Schiff, Pelosi, Obama, James E. Boasberg et al.

        1. You people and your conspiracy theories are sick and destroying the country. Trump is the epitome of the swamp and the dumbest most corrupt president ever.

        2. Anyone that voted for Trump is responsible for this crisis. There is not a single candidate from either party that would have failed this miserably. You are the party of death, not life.

          1. Another comment by Anonymous the Stupid who is again racking up posts right and left without saying anything that has meaning. What a dope.

        3. George, you are so right. I wish all these group thinkers would read and check out what you said because it is the truth

          1. You say that because you are Anonymous the Stupid and can’t read as proven in a long debate a long time ago and now it seems you can’t even follow a video. Critical thinking skills? You have none.

            1. I follow facts moron, not Trump propoganda. You are cheering for a failed president that requires his intelligence briefings in cartoon format. If you watched the video it shows a large period of inaction during the same period that anyone with a semblance of intelligence knew the situation was serious .

              1. Bob, I can see that I am not dealing with an individual who has much intelligence. The timeline was to demonstrate what the President was doing at specific times and what the Press was saying. It demonstrated how the press was far behind reality and was making things up. It isn’t that difficult for people to understand but I can see why in your case you failed to recognize what was being shown.

There are plenty of people on the blog that are willing to help the intellectually disadvantaged. I will be glad to answer any of your questions.

                1. I did not need to see the video Allan, I was watching the news that entire timeline and saw plenty of evidence about the severity of the issue. I do not need to see cherry picker propoganda. But apparently you believe whatever you see as fact. A true sign of stupidity.

                  1. “I did not need to see the video Allan, I was watching”

Then it should be easy for you to prove your points, but you can’t. Trump isn’t perfect but overall he has done a fantastic job based on what was available.

Now you will run away because that is how you believe you can escape without demonstrating your stupidity.

                    1. Easy to find your answers, it’s called (saying it slowly) G o o g l e. Search about internal Navarro memo’s for one. Enough total for a few hours video vs. 5 minutes of propoganda.

                    2. Unfortunately “Owns Alan” is another dummy that has to change his alias everytime he opens his mouth. Yep this guy though not Anonymous the Stupid belongs in the same category. He is more like the guy that runs away.

            2. Alan, please give your mommy back her phone. And anyone can make a video, but only a child would take the leap that video was exonerating.

              1. You sound like Anonymous the Stupid that doesn’t want to let anyone know he is posting so much.

      2. Funfact:

President Trump sent Iran what we owed them, a precise drone-strike, missile attack that instantaneously disarticulated the Head of Iran’s Bureau of Murder into many, multiple bloody tissue fragments.

      3. Does America owe China the $1.1 trillion of extant debt?

That debt must be frozen and $25 trillion+ in damages and wrongful death for gross negligence and dereliction, if not malice, must be litigated.

    2. Common shrubs are more intelligent than you. You are just dumb, ignorant, racist trash

        1. Anyone that was dumb enough to vote for Trump or believes the conspiracy theories he and his party promotes.

            1. I am smart enough to think for myself instead of idolizing a stupid, immoral, lying, ignorant, racist, misogynistic, fat, carnival barking clown and believing everything on Faux news.

              1. Though you don’t sound very bright it seems you have accumulated a larger vocabulary than Anonymous the Stupid. Stupid people, just like you are doing, often draw conclusions but can’t seem to demonstrate why they drew those conclusions in the first place.

It sounds like you have morphed from another character on the blog hiding yourself for fear that you will be exposed as a fraud. We have a lot of such frauds that run away.

                1. Actually I draw my own conclusions based on objective analysis. If you bothered to research, you can find plenty of factual evidence that supports that there was plenty of warning. But you are not objective and clearly only read (slowly and with moving lips) news sources that support your brainwashed beliefs.

                  1. AS I just told you changing your alias doesn’t make your stupidity disappear and doesn’t permit you to improve your mind. Running away from a former alias doesn’t push you to become brighter. It pushes you in the other direction as you think you can escape from your mistakes. You can’t. You have to improve your critical thinking skills by dealing with who you are and what you say.
                    .

      1. The American Founders required citizens to be “…free white person(s)…” and most slaves to be black.

        Was that racist?

Apparently, it was fully constitutional because the American Founders wrote the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Naturalization Acts of 1790, 1795, 1798 and 1802, four times.

Do you have an inkling of which country you are in?

It’s a country of 250 million Americans and 80 million illegal aliens.

    3. Was it not Republicans who sent factories ti China? Of Course not … it was Obama!

Was it not Republicans that closed down the Pandemic offices and cut funding in 2019? Of course not … it was Obama!

You and I both know this is a HOAX.

Go outside and meat and great your neighbors, lick public banister, DEFY CONVENTION!!

      Your family too!

Be even bolder, white up a health document that you REFUSE a ventilator and will soldier on without one.

You are a lower form of hominid, Джордж.

      1. Try Clinton with allowing China into the WTO.

Not saying Republicans aren’t culpable, too, but Clinton and the Democrats aren’t blameless.

    4. Republicans have brought America to it’s knees. Thanks to you electing Trump we are not trusted and are laughed at worldwide.

      1. Anonymous the Stupid, you are setting records for the number of postings that lack any substantial substance. Congratulations you will most definitely be admitted to the Society of Morons.

        1. Alan, you are too dumb for even a society of morons. A sea of slugs fits you well though.

          1. Anonymous the Stupid I keep noting how you copy all of my words. I ask again have you no imagination or creative spirit. I don’t know if I have ever come across an individual who had basic reading and writing skills yet was as dumb as you act.

            1. Actually I doubt you have ever come across anyone that you are smarter than.

            2. Actually Allan, I am acting just like the idiot that you apparently voted for once. I thought you would recognize. And apparently you are stupid enough to think he is doing a good job. That is scary dumb.

              1. Do you actually believe that by changing your alias you have become more intelligent? Do you believe that by changing your alias you can run away from your stupidity.

You are no different than you were when you ran by another alias only to run away when confronted.
