House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declined to condemn the destruction of a statue of Christopher Columbus in the city of Baltimore (where she was born and raised) yesterday in the latest example of politicians enabling such mob action with their silence. When asked about a mob pulling down the statue and dumping it in the harbor (with no interference from police), Pelosi simply declared “People will do what they do.” Indeed, they will when leaders refuse to condemn their conduct. Her comment explains why a recently arrested supporter of Antifa declared that they are winning in the campaign to destroy statues and memorials. Update: Maryland Governor Larry Hogan blasted Pelosi for being out of touch with her comments. Rather than pander to the most extreme elements of these protests, Hogan insisted “while efforts towards peaceful change are welcome, there is no place in Maryland for lawlessness, vandalism, and destruction of public property.”
The incident in Baltimore is the latest such example of mob destruction of public art and memorials. As in Washington D.C. where the police chief said that he made the “tactical decision” to allow a mob to destroy such public memorials, the mob was allowed free rein and ample time to topple and drag the statue.
I previously denounced Pelosi for her ripping up of the State of the Union speech in shattering decades of tradition, but this is an act of mob destruction of public art.
Democratic leaders continue to straddle the fence in not acknowledging, let alone condemning, the extreme elements of recent protests. While the vast majority of protesters have been peaceful, there has been significant violence and property damage. Antifa and other “anti-fascist” organizations have long been a violent presence on college campus, including my own. Indeed, the recently arrested Antifa member accused of organizing the effort to topple the famous Andrew Jackson statue is a GW student.
I have criticized Democratic leaders for their support of Antifa despite its pronounced anti-free speech beliefs and violent history. The effort to remain neutral in the face of violent acts will not last long as today’s allies becomes tomorrow’s reactionaries.
Despite the current divisions in our society, we should be able to agree that the decision to remove such statues must be done collectively and legally in our society. It is disgraceful that a Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the third in line for the presidency of the United States, should have to be prodded to condemn such unlawful action and even then will not do so. While Pelosi said “I don’t care that much about statues,” she should care a bit about statutes like the ones making this a crime.
The media however has been relatively quiet on Pelosi’s comment. Unlike Trump’s equivocation that there were “very fine people on both sides” in Charlottesville, there is no expectation that Pelosi would condemn a mob destroying public art.
This is why James Freeman Clarke once said that “A politician thinks of the next election; a statesman thinks of the next generation.”

Just keep burning fossil fuels and biomass.
So Nancy if this mob decides to burn down your house then the people are just going to do what they are going to do. I don’t think so.
If the mob does burn down her house it’s only because their spark of divinity got a little out of hand. Nancy won’t mind. She’s insane.
Some of them even get into public office because some people vote for idiots,. That would be liberal socialists who want Botox Brains treated like real citizens.
Pelosi gets George Floyd’s name wrong…which democrat’s dementia is worse, Joke Biden, Nanny Pelosi or Obergruppenfuhrer Robert Mueller?
Dennis Miller is right. Pelosi looks like a Bond villlain. They should call her Pelosi Galore.
And Turley refuses to condemn Trump’s destruction of the rule of law in the United States.
Trying to remember when Professor Turley has ever called out President Trump with the same emotional force that he calls out Speaker Pelosi. Apparently, this president has never done anything approaching “disgraceful”. https://www.theatlantic.com/unthinkable/
Rule of law! After what democrat politicians allow to go on in the streets of this country, you’re crying about rule of law. You must be living in the twilight zone.
Please elaborate in detail, FW?
Exactly what “rule of law” are you referring to?

“BLM and the Neoliberal Color Revolution in America
Neoliberal Democrats exploit BLM to get Biden elected.”
https://kurtnimmo.blog/2020/06/24/blm-and-the-neoliberal-color-revolution-in-america/
“BLM and its Marxist leaders will be jettisoned after Biden wins the election. Either BLM will conform to the democrat masquerade—a kinder and gentler face plastered on the neoliberal project—or it will become irrelevant to national one-party politics pushed on the American people by a corporate propaganda media.
After a Biden victory, BLM will be expected to head for the bleachers where they will be required to cheerlead “diversity,” which is basically yet another ruling elite control mechanism.”
How do they expect to win on a platform of “defunding the police”?
And raising taxes!
People should move out of the City of St. Louis. Go west young man go west!

We don’t need no friggin statues…
We don’t need no thought control!
All in all it’s just another dip in the road.

“Indeed, they will when leaders refuse to condemn their conduct.” Actually, they will also do it even if the leaders condemn it. Every politician across the country could condemn these acts and those doing it are still going to do it. So Turley is probably wrong to imply that if our leaders tell them not to do it they will suddenly cease this conduct.
“Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden on Tuesday said the federal government has a responsibility to protect statues and monuments of historical figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Christopher Columbus.
Speaking at a press conference in Wilmington, Del., the former vice president defended monuments dedicated to past presidents who owned slaves. Biden made the case that those public statues should be preserved, while monuments to Confederate leaders should be removed peacefully by local officials….”

Statues should only be removed after a referendum vote by all the voters. Not by a mob.

AOC, other top Democrats call for boycott of Hispanic-run food company after CEO praises Trump
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Julián Castro urge shoppers to drop Goya
Influential Democrats including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are encouraging consumers to avoid the Hispanic-run Goya Food company after it chief executive on Thursday complimented and praised President Trump.
At a White House Rose Garden event, CEO Robert Unanue said America is “truly blessed … to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder.”
He declared Trump “an incredible builder” and said that the country is “pray[ing] for our leadership, our president.”
The praise was followed by some bold name Democrats rushing to social media to demand a boycott of the American company that was founded 84 years ago by a Spanish immigrant.
Ocasio-Cortez, the unofficial leader of the party’s most progressive wing, tweeted a video of Unanue’s remarks and said that she researching how to make her own adobo – suggesting that she would no longer buy the Spanish seasoning from Goya.
“Oh look, it’s the sound of me Googling ‘how to make your own Adobo’,” she wrote.
Adobo, a bold but relatively simple spice mixture, often contains just five or six ingredients.

Julián Castro – a former Obama secretary of Housing and Urban Development and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate – tweeted that “Americans should think twice before buying [Goya’s] products.”
.@GoyaFoods has been a staple of so many Latino households for generations. Now their CEO, Bob Unanue, is praising a president who villainizes and maliciously attacks Latinos for political gain. Americans should think twice before buying their products. #Goyaway — Julián Castro (@JulianCastro) July 9, 2020
“[Goya] has been a staple of so many Latino households for generations,” he wrote. “Now their CEO, Bob Unanue, is praising a president who villainizes and maliciously attacks Latinos for political gain.” Castro appended that tweet with the hashtag #goyaway, one that is being used on Twitter by proponents of the boycott.
In addition, Latino Victory Fund CEO Nathalie Rayes said its “shameful and appalling that the president of Goya Foods is praising the most anti-Latino president in the history of our country.”
Rayes even took the boycott demands a step further, calling for a boycott not just of Goya Foods products but of “anyone who stands with Donald Trump and against our community.”
Unanue, who was at the White House as part of its Hispanic Prosperity Initiative, on Friday refused to apologize for his remarks.
“So, you’re allowed to talk good or to praise one president, but you’re not allowed to aid in economic and educational prosperity? And you make a positive comment and all of a sudden, it is not acceptable,” he said

I disagree with boycotts of businesses based on the free expression of thought by their owner as a matter of principle. It acts to restrict free thought, the lifeblood of a democracy. Hopefully we are outraged by this regardless the positions of the owners.
It is your right to disagree with boycotts of businesses. It is the right of those who advocate for and engage in boycotts to do so. So long as you don’t work to help implement laws that would prohibit arguing in favor of boycotts and participating in them, all is well. You both get to exercise your right.
Pelton I agree that boycotts are a form of speech and don’t advocate making them somehow illegal. In cases like this one they are used to stifle the free speech of another in a way having nothing to do with the product or behavior of the company. This is bad for free speech and bad for our economy. I am a business owner and the unwritten ethics my dealings with clients and other businesses I employ as part of mine is that politics are avoided. Some of my favorites of both no doubt disagree with me, and if we divided our medium sized city’s markets up by parties, we’d all suffer civilly and economically.
But boycotts themselves are peaceable expressions of free speech…better boycotts than mayhem
I agree. Stop supporting Hollywood.
As soon as I heard the Goya story, I went on Amazon and bought some Goya products before I cancel my Prime membership. I urge you all to do the same. Why Amazon ? To piss Jeff Bezos off. He’s not going to get rich off of my order, but it’s probably easier and cheaper to get them at your local grocery store.
The boycott is Working Great! Just back from Walmart and most of the Goya stuff was sold out. It’s a Buycott! Stupid leftists.
Back up the truck!
TRUMP COMMUTES STONE’S SENTENCE
President Trump on Friday commuted the prison sentence of his longtime friend Roger Stone, a veteran Republican operative who was convicted of lying to Congress about his efforts to contact WikiLeaks during Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
“Roger Stone is a victim of the Russia Hoax that the Left and its allies in the media perpetuated for years in an attempt to undermine the Trump Presidency,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement. “There was never any collusion between the Trump Campaign, or the Trump Administration, with Russia.”
The commutation, which Trump issued days before Stone was to report to federal prison, brings an end to Stone’s legal fight — but only further inflames the political battle over his prosecution and the broader Russia investigation.
Earlier Friday evening, a federal appeals court denied an emergency bid from Stone to stay out of prison.
The case against Stone was brought by then-special counsel Robert Mueller as part of his probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and possible ties between Moscow and the Trump campaign.
Stone was indicted over lying to Congress, witness tampering and obstruction. The charges related to his efforts during the 2016 presidential race to act as an intermediary between the Trump campaign and WikiLeaks.
WikiLeaks was releasing Democratic emails stolen by Russian intelligence services, and Stone publicly and privately presented himself as someone with inside knowledge about the group’s operations.
After the election, when Stone was questioned under oath about the matter by the House Intelligence Committee, he lied to lawmakers about his efforts to contact WikiLeaks.
He also tried to prevent an associate from testifying before the committee.
After a tumultuous run-up to his trial, during which the presiding judge, Amy Berman Jackson, imposed a gag order on Stone after he published a threatening photograph of her, a jury found Stone guilty on all seven counts in November 2019.
After his trial, Stone raised allegations of juror misconduct and tried to get the verdict dismissed. Jackson entertained the motion, even holding a hearing in which she brought back members of the jury for questioning, but she ultimately rejected Stone’s bid for a new trial and sentenced him to more than three years in prison.

Today’s NPR
It enflames nothing besides Democrat partisan imaginations.
The farce which was his trial is now irrelevant. Mission accomplished.
Mr K,
Stone has been saying with a commutation it’ll allow him to go back to court to try to have the wrongful conviction overtuned. We’ll see?
As far as the above NPR crap, I don’t see much truth at all.
The only people proven to have been dealing with Russian back the the was Hillary & her people. not Stone or Wikileaks.
Great news. Now hire Flynn to investigate Comey!
Just wait ’till the mob comes for her ice cream.
Epstein didn’t kill himself –
I WAS PONDERING TODAY IF EPSTEIN IS character who is wearing a mask 😷
No, seriously. Keep an open mind. Look at the eye lids around his eyes. Looks like once of those Amazing alphabet gang masks that look so real, it’s scary.
A woman at the agency briefed Bush 41 in one of those Amazing masks, and then took it off at the end and he Laughed.
What would be really hilarious, is if it was Obama under that Epstein mask.
Now, that would be quite the plot twist.
I am not saying anything I said is true or false above, just keeping an open mind.
EDKH – did you see Joe Rogan call Ghislane Maxwell a “guy,” and then laugh it off and call her a woman. Wow, keep preaching, Joe. We can hear what you said and what you meant.
