Pelosi Names Eric Swalwell As House Impeachment Manager

Speaker Nancy Pelosi shocked many in Washington by appointing Eric Swalwell as a house managers in the impeachment of President Donald Trump as he continues to face calls for his removal from the House Intelligence Committee due to his alleged intimate relationship with a Chinese spy.  Swalwell has been bunkered down to avoid questions from the media and the public, but he will now be one of those prosecuting the case against the President.

He allegedly first met the spy, Fang Fang or Christine Fang, in 2011. She not only raised money for Swalwell but reportedly had a personal relationship with him. She also pushed successfully for his office to accept an intern. He cut ties with her in 2015 after the FBI contacted him. Pelosi made no mention of the scandal in heralding Swalwell’s credentials:

“Congressman Swalwell serves on House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he chairs the Intelligence Modernization and Readiness Subcommittee, and on the Judiciary Committee,” Pelosi’s office said in a statement. “He is a former prosecutor and is the son and brother of law enforcement officers.  He is serving his fifth term in Congress.”

Usually a speaker selects House managers to reinforce the credibility and integrity of the case against a president. Even before the current scandal, Swalwell was viewed as a member who was a raw partisan. Last year, it was revealed that (despite long denials) the FBI did send an agent to report on his observations within the Trump campaign. As I discussed in a column, Democratic members spent years mocking allegations that there was any spying or surveillance of Trump or his campaign by the FBI. That was just a conspiracy theory. Now however there is proof that the FBI used a briefing in August 2016 of then candidate Trump to gather information for “Crossfire Hurricane,” the Russia investigation. It turns out that it did not really matter after all and Rep. Eric Swalwell did not miss a step. Swalwell declared that such targeting of the opposing party and its leading presidential candidate was “the right thing to do.” That’s it. A conspiracy theory suddenly becomes a commendable act.

Previously, Swalwell also declared that  if President Donald Trump refused to give Congress the documents and witnesses that it has demanded, he is clearly guilty of all charged offenses. Swalwell declared “We can only conclude that you’re guilty.”

The Swalwell selection is clearly part of a rehabilitation campaign. Swalwell remained secluded as the many in the media refused to carry the story, let alone investigate it.  A member of the House Intelligence Committee carried on an intimate relationship with a Chinese spy but major media largely blacked out coverage as they did on the Hunter Biden story. Now Pelosi will use the impeachment as a way for Swalwell to reemerge from seclusion . . . as the accuser and prosecutor of President Donald Trump.

While there are good faith reasons for calling for impeachment, there remain serious questions over the speed and basis for the impeachment.  My concern is primarily over the use of a snap impeachment without even a hearing to discuss the implications of this action. That makes the House managers even more important in bringing credibility to this effort. This is putting politics ahead of the institution in my view.

  1. The Swalwell selection is clearly part of a rehabilitation campaign.

Right. This is not about rehabilitating a fallen House member. A large percentage of our body politic legitimately believe they were cutoff from the rest of the body and the Democrats cure is to remove all doubt and amputate them. If Pelosi and the Democrats truly were concerned about healing the nation, they’d effort to produce evidence the election results were legitimate by conducting an independent forensic audit. But no, they’ve crossed the Rubicon and it’s now or never. Now they need to silence millions and millions of Americans. They are going to impeach their leader. And by naming Swalwell as one of the impeachment managers, Pelosi has purposely chosen to pour salt in the wound. So now those that believe they’ve been disenfranchised will conclude what? The CCP has installed Biden as President. And they have one of their puppets installed as a manager to impeach the man standing in their way. Pelosi and the Democrats are doing everything possible to incite civil unrest and when it happens, expect Biden to invoke the Insurrection Act, curfews and begin the process to disarm the American people. That’s how you rehabilitate Americans; shut them up, lock them up and make them slaves to the state.

    1. Nothing prevents them from carrying out an independent investigation — including forensic audits and also including transcripts of Trump’s calls to election officials in other states — AFTER Trump is impeached. The impeachment is more pressing and takes less time.

Who do you nominate as members of this independent investigation?

    1. Vince……Correct! And that’s why Eric can be seen walking the hallways, discreetly speaking into his shirtsleeve, whispering “Testing Testing”.

Is it just me, or does Eric remind anyone else of Maxwell Smart!?

  2. Yesterday, Trump announced that everybody he talked to felt his speech at last Wednesday’s rally was totally appropriate. He offered no regrets about vowing to end the political careers of any Republican who voted to confirm Biden’s Electoral College victory. He had no regrets about comments aimed at Pence: “If Mike does the right thing, we win the election. All Vice-President Pence has to do is send it back to the States to recertify, and we become president, and you are the happiest people.” Soon afterward, Trump supporters at the Capitol building chanted “Hang Mike Pence” as Pence was being rushed to safety.

Bill Barr called Trump’s actions “a betrayal of his office and supporters” & “inexcusable.” Barr said Trump was responsible for “orchestrating a mob to pressure Congress.” One week after Barr issued that stern rebuke, Trump stepped forward to say his rally speech was totally appropriate.

Turley can’t be bothered about Trump’s defiance & lack of remorse yesterday. He apparently believes the bigger story is Swalwell being named house manager of the impeachment. JT also tacitly defends Trump for spending years declaring Obama to be guilty of treason for “the biggest political crime in US history” & for awarding Jim Jordan a Medal of Freedom a few days after Jordan refused to certify Biden’s Electoral College victory & attempted to overturn the election. Turley makes it clear which party’s elected officials conservatives deem to be raw partisans & lacking credibility. Quite likely, many in Washington aren’t shocked by that revelation.

    1. Bill Barr called Trump’s actions “a betrayal of his office and supporters” & “inexcusable.”

Whereas being perfectly otiose in response to revelations of systemic misconduct in your department is something other than a betrayal.

      1. Nothing is stopping you from looking up Pelosi’s statement naming all of the House impeachment managers and choosing whatever source you want. The head manager is Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD).

        1. It’s a reasonable wager the current Mrs. Swallwell was sharing him with Fang Fang in 2015. It’s often true that chicks dig jerks.

          1. Given that you have no evidence he ever slept with her, it’s not a reasonable wager, only a projection from a partisan shill.

            1. Chuckles. I’m of an age that the only jerk they’re looking for is a man with a retirement income and no wife.

  3. Yesterday, I wondered on this comment board if the West Coast wasn’t trying to break up the Union so that they could pursue a commercial combination with Beijing, unfettered by the rest of us. Beijing would love to have a coastal ally that isolates a broken US from the Pacific.

I’m not saying I believe it myself, but now we discover that a divisive impeachment will be led by the same guy who slept with Beijing’s honeypot.

C’mon, man!!! At this point, the conspiracy theory is writing itself.

I beg Senator Schumer not to get rid of the filibuster. Beijing has too many “friends” on Wall Street and the West Coast, and they may drive events without the filibuster.

    1. Your problem isn’t the filibuster, which is a stupid institution. Your problem is that the Democratic Party is the electoral vehicle of a nexus of criminals, and about half the public is fine with that.

      1. Agree about the criminal nexus.

Disagree about the filibuster. My opinion is that the filibuster prevents slim and temporary majorities from permanently wrecking the country. That also applies to Warnock’s and Ossoff’s criminal majority.

        1. Did I say “criminal majority?” I really mean “illegitimate majority.” Democrats stole those two Senate seats.

    1. What Dershovitz says is right, but it’s actually why we should not fear. The Democrats are sharpening the knives that will remain on the table forever. Well done, let it come

One day, these tools of repression, will be turned on the masters

  4. This is rich!!!!!!!!!! Naming a commie-Chinese-compromised rep to head a meaningless exercise symbolizes all that’s wrong with one-party rule. The only reason that the Republicans are participating in the Great Piling On is they’re afraid that Trump will be like Hillary in disrupting all future elections until crashing and burning as a presidential candidate.

Putting commie Stall-well in charge symbolizes the continual tone deafness of the Democrats and Republicans and the power that China has over our politicians.

    1. DV, Turley keeps using the word “alleged” when describing the relationship. He’s doing that because it’s not actually confirmed if it is true or not. As a lawyer Turley knows this is purely speculation at this point.

Many Trump staff including his First National security secretary Flynn was talking to alleged KGB spies.

The fake outrage is just that, fake.

      1. Svalez, what “fake” outrage? If you are speaking about ME, back off, you don’t know me and you know nothing about ME.

            1. He isn’t a communist, and his name isn’t Stall-well. If you don’t like “childish bunk,” what phrase would you prefer for your infantile name-calling?

      2. Has Fang denied the relationship? Has Swallwell? Because Flynn and “alleged” KGB operative Lokhova have denied even knowing each other, and Lokhova has sued … so you might want to watch what you write.

  5. Eric Swalwell….probably one of the few Democrats that are stupid enough to take the job demanded by Pelosi.

Compound that by his Chinese connections…..which no matter how he tries is going to dog him from now on.

China Joe, China Hunter, China Eric…my this is going to be interesting.

Swalwell is among the sleaziest of theCalifornia Democrat Cabal of Leftists who will say and do anything and by that destroys his credibility completely.

  6. Most Americans are shocked at the thought of a House intelligence member sleeping with a Chinese spy.

If true they would want more security and that house member demoted.

Yet the Dems don’t care what voters want. Their boy gets promoted.

The Dems on this blog are so occupied by Trump that they don’t even notice that their leadership is ignoring both them and normal American standards.

Dem leadership loves the cover that hating Trump gives them.

    1. “Dem leadership loves the cover that hating Trump gives them.”

Wow, you’re really close to catching on to what’s been happening the last four years! Trump’s antics have united and strengthened the DNC while fracturing and demoralizing any opposition. It boggles the mind that people thought Trump’s “leadership” would result in anything else. What hath Trump wrought? Democrat control of both houses, the executive, and the future of the Supreme Court.

Thanks for nothing, patriots. Maybe you can find an even more ignorant and reckless savior next time.

  7. Just another personal vendetta by Turley who has been smarting since his encounter with Swalwell at the last impeachment hearing. This is one of many attack columns on him by Turley since then.

    1. ABSOLUTELY. Turley knows the facts about Eric Swallwell, and knows there is no dirt. He tries to insinuate a scandal because he knows the bulk of his followers don’t READ. Also, Eric is way smarter than Turley.

      1. Ha ha! M Bringer and Joe can keep kidding themselves. Eric thinks with other than his brains and is commie-whipped.

        1. Unlike Trump and his kids, Swalwell actually cooperated with the FBI investigation. Trump’s the one who thinks with his dick, cheating on all of his wives, including cheating on Melania right after she gave birth.

    2. Just another personal vendetta by Turley who has been smarting since his encounter with Swalwell at the last impeachment hearing.

Thanks for the fantasy. Always an education.

    3. Pretty transparent, isn’t it Joe?

We have this from Turley: “The Swalwell selection is clearly part of a rehabilitation campaign. Swalwell remained secluded as the many in the media refused to carry the story, let alone investigate it. ”

Of course another (more accurate) way to look at this is by saying the media got on to this story, fact checked it, realized it was sketchy from the point of view of publication and moved on.

But Swallwell has earned a spot on Turley’s list of perceived slights…i.e. Rubin and Yates. And now Swallwell.

  8. Of course she did. She is an enemy of the State. She is not interesting in governing, She is driven by a white hot hatred of Trump and all Republicans. Scorched earth policy for the next 4 years. It is not going to be pretty.
