When we recently discussed a Brandeis University dean declaring “Yes, all White people are racists”, it was viewed as controversial but not “triggering” for students and faculty on the campus. What is triggering is apparently the word “trigger.” According to the Prevention, Advocacy and Resource Center at Brandeis University, the word is “oppressive” and should not be uttered.
Conservative columnists and sites have criticized the list at Brandeis, which includes other “oppressive language” as “take a shot” and “rule of thumb.”
However, the inclusion of trigger is particularly interesting since it is widely used by woke academics who are now facing the realization that they have been engaging in oppressive rhetoric for years. It would be like “Jazz hands” (adopted after applause was denounced as triggering) being itself denounced as triggering for Blues aficionados.
The website explains that “The word ‘trigger’ has connections to guns for many people. We can give the same heads-up using language less connected to violence.” So the approved alternatives are now “content note” or “Drop-in.” The problem is that most of us have no idea how to grammatically use those terms in the same way. This just sounds odd: “Jane found the reference to genocide to be content note” or “John found the reference to be dropping in.”
Indeed, it is grammatically triggering for those of us who are already finding it difficult to abandon the language to prove virtue. As a general rule, a substitute for triggering should serve the same grammatical and definitional purpose.
After all, it was Louis Brandeis who declared “The logic of words should yield to the logic of realities.”

______________
“You can’t handle the…” scope and breadth of American freedom.
You Brandeis et al. communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs) in America can’t grasp it and you don’t like it but you can’t do it.
Government exists only to facilitate the maximal freedom of Americans by merely providing security and infrastructure. It is distinctly NOT the purview of American government to mandate what people think, whom they accept, whom they reject, whom they marry, and/or how they live. Government cannot tax for individual, specific welfare, redistribution of wealth (except general or all), favor or charity. Government cannot regulate anything but money, commerce and land and naval Forces and government can’t touch property property – government cannot “claim or exercise dominion” over private property.
Nothing in the Constitution redistributes the estates of the successful into the greedy hands of parasites and all efforts to do so are unconstitutional.
Talk to your pastor about charity.
Of course, Americans are provided the right to and the freedom of speech, thought, religion, belief, assembly, segregation and every other conceivable natural and God-given right and freedom per the 9th Amendment, including the right to and freedom of choice, discrimination and opinion regarding careers, expenditures, marriage, neighborhoods, race and every other subject.
Affirmative action, welfare public assistance, generational welfare, quotas, public housing, forced busing, fair housing, non-discrimination, social services, WIC, SNAP, TANF, HAMP, HARP, HUD, HHS, Obamacare, rent control, minimum wage, etc. are all unconstitutional and must be pursued only by individuals/groups in the free markets of the private sector.
Americans are free to hold opinions on and choose between everything in life.
The alternative is dictatorship.
The “dictatorship of the proletariat” is the desire and goal of communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs) in America.
The problem for the communists (liberals, progressives, socialists, democrats, RINOs) in America is that their desire and goals are wholly and irrefutably antithetical and unconstitutional.
The Left is insatiable for outrage. Never satisfied. Never appeased.
So don’t bother. Reacquaint yourself with the word “no.”
“We demand that all classic literature be abolished because they were written by white men under the patriarchy in a time of racism.” – No.
“We declare math to be racist.” – No.
“We demand to teach your children that gender is a state of mind, and has no relationship with chromosomes, genitalia, or even behavior, thus encouraging your children to experience gender dysphoria, a mental illness associated with a high suicide rate and castration.” – NO NO NO
“We’re going to insert transgender pride parades and other sexuality language into your preschool children’s cartoons, and expect you to keep watching.” NO
“We’re going to drag Leftist politics into basketball and football, and expect you to keep walking.” NO
“We declare the American flag to be racist.” – No
“We declare that proving your identity to vote is racist, but proving your identity to vote in a Democrat primary, get a drivers license, open a bank account, get a Covid shot, visit your child’s school, buy cough syrup, notarize a document, get a passport, board a plane, enter a federal building or courthouse, or visit Disneyland or Disney World is just normal security measures.” NO
The more you say it, the easier it will become. Don’t bother reasoning. They won’t listen. Just. Say. No. And vote accordingly.
Having this insanity taking place at a university named after Louis Brandeis is like having a buffet at a Weight Watchers meeting. Or an open bar at an AA meeting.
MUST-READ REVELATIONS!
New Book Describes How Bill Barr Told Trump Election Claims Were B.S.
Barr, Levi, and Cipollone walked to the president’s personal dining room near the Oval Office. Trump was sitting at the table. Meadows was sitting next to him with his arms crossed; the White House adviser Eric Herschmann stood off to the side. The details of this meeting were described to me by several people present. One told me that Trump had “the eyes and mannerism of a madman.”
He went off on Barr.
“I think you’ve noticed I haven’t been talking to you much,” Trump said to him. “I’ve been leaving you alone.”
Barr later told others that the comment was reminiscent of a line in the movie Dr. Strangelove, in which the main character, Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper, says, “I do not avoid women, Mandrake, but I do deny them my essence.” Trump, Barr thought, was saying that he had been denying him his essence.
Trump brought up Barr’s AP interview.
“Did you say that?”
“Yes,” Barr responded.
“How the f**k could you do this to me? Why did you say it?”
“Because it’s true.”
The president, livid, responded by referring to himself in the third person: “You must hate Trump. You must hate Trump.”
Barr thought that the president was trying to control himself, but he seemed angrier than he had ever seen him. His face was red. Barr’s AP interview was dominating every cable news channel except the one Trump was watching. The television in the room was tuned to the right-wing, pro-Trump network One America News, which was broadcasting a committee hearing of the Michigan legislature. The hearing featured disproven allegations of massive election fraud, including the testimony of a woman named Melissa Carone, who had worked at the counting location in Detroit and told the committee, “Everything that happened at the TCF Center was fraud.”
“They saw the boxes going in!” Trump yelled, referring to the stories about boxes of illegal ballots being counted.
“You know, Mr. President, there are 662 precincts in Wayne County,” Barr said. Trump seemed taken aback that he knew the exact number. “It’s the only county with all the boxes going to a central place, and you actually did better there this time around than you did last time. You keep on saying that the Department of Justice is not looking at this stuff, and we are looking at it in a responsible way. But your people keep on shoveling this shit out.”
As Trump ranted about other examples of fraud, Meadows continued to sit silently with his arms crossed, his posture suggesting that he, too, was upset by what Barr had done.
“You know, you only have five weeks, Mr. President, after an election to make legal challenges,” Barr said. “This would have taken a crackerjack team with a really coherent and disciplined strategy. Instead, you have a clown show. No self-respecting lawyer is going anywhere near it. It’s just a joke. That’s why you are where you are.”
Interestingly, Trump didn’t argue when Barr told him that his “clown show” legal team had wasted time. In fact, he said, “You may be right about that.”

This “Anonymous” is the Tom Brady of non-sequiturs”. Try to stay on topic once in awhile, or at least take your medicine more often. You are what we call a “site destroyer”.
This Anonymous is the one and only Paint Chips.

Anonymous feels like he has a lot to say.
But instead of staying on topic, he pours out (excretes?) his thoughts whenever they cross his mind.
Worse, he constantly complains that Turley doesn’t write what Anonymous wants him to write (can you believe Turley’s nerve?).
Anonymous is a pain; perhaps the cross that Conservatives have to bear in order to read Turley.
I just move past any posting by Anonymous (the few times I made a mistake, I regretted it).
It is, isn’t it?
It’s Peter Shill, up close and personal!
Long time no read, Pete!
Pete, do you have a link for the YouTube video?
Those goofy glasses really give Wild Bill Barr, Deputy Dog of the Deep Deep State, imprimatur.
Stop treating these lunatics as anything more than escapees from the county home. Don’t patronize anything they run and stand your ground when they attack, especially regarding our language.
“Yes, all White people are racists.”
There’s your CRT.
After reading of various universities with their ‘wokeness,’ demands of use or non-use of words, their mandatory diversity requirements for graduation (my daughter had to take and pay for one), I would question the value of a college education nowadays.
Great. You have a degree from Brandeis. You are well versed in woke. Can you think critically? Communicate effectively? Math?
American is pretty divided as it is.
Are we going to see a group who is fed up with wokeness, and form their own private schools where they focus on STEM, critical thinking, the classics, and other subjects to prepare them for the real world?
If I owned a company, I would be more inclined to hire a grad from that university than from a woke university.
I also have commented in the past, I would rather hire a bright high school student, teach them the ropes of business from the ground up, while paying them a real living wage.
As Charles H. Smith says, accredit the student, not the school.
“Can you think critically?”
Racist.
“Communicate effectively?”
Double racist.
“Math?”
Now you’re just begging for trouble.
The Council On Wokeism (COW) hereby sentences you to five years of re-education.
I once worked for a legal aid grip who helped mental patients and represented them in courts. Once a month the local state mental hospital had a gathering of medical doctors and psyologists called “Grand Rounds”. They invited me to attend and I did so for many events. A topic about how universities have been effected by all this division and yak about who is bad could be a topic at Grand Rounds.
The professors and staff could be assessed.
The first topic should be Wackos.
My goodness, what would Justice Brandeis think of all this?!?! He’d think they’d gone stark raving mad!!!
My goodness, what would Justice Brandeis think of all this?!?! He’d think they’d gone stark raving mad!!!
Universities start out as a blank slate; a school, neither good nor bad.
Then the staff, students and alumni all work together to make the school as good as it can be – essentially, they create a “brand”.
Some succeed – witness Hillsdale College.
Some fail – witness Evergreen College.
Brandeis had a good reputation.
Why is the administration working so hard to destroy their franchise?
“Prevention, Advocacy and Resource Center” and their list of “oppressive” words seems like a translation of something that would have been created in 1966 in Mao’s China.
Wallowing in the ridiculous…don’t these people have anything better to do? This obsession with words and “hurt feelings” is probably the natural outcome for a nation of narcissists.
This is when I wish had invested in a herd of therapy ponies. I could get rich off these snowflakes. Are therapy ponies a line item in university budgets yet?
It appears that there is no cure for liberals/leftists/loonies who struggle with the tyranny of objective reality.
This would be funny if it weren’t so sad.
Me? With all possible offense . . . I think these folks are off their rockers!
I would love to see how a graduate from this program would hold up in a Xinjiang camp. Isn’t it a communist model they wish to follow? If they do well, they might be given a job where their task is to insert one screw in mobile phone and work only 72 hours per week and live ten men per dorm room. That would be a step up from picking cotton by hand a hundred hours per week if they were identified as an Uyghur. At least the factory that makes a popular American product provides netting to prevent their employees from leaping to their death.
My father used to say, “Engage your brain!”
When will these elite, spoiled kids learn to think for themselves? Maybe a field trip to see how the rest of the world actually lives would be a start.
How does ‘trigger’ make the list but ‘woke’ doesn’t?
eb
Good ol’ Trigger and Roy. Can you imagine the reaction to the Saturday morning programming the Baby Boomers grew up on being shown today? Even Foghorn Leghorn would be cancelled.
Ahhh, I’ve always had a soft spot for Golden Cloud, who played Trigger. Maid Marion rode him in his movie debut. He remained a stallion, yet he was so calm and well behaved that he could walk up multiple flights of stairs to visit with sick children in hospitals.
Can you imagine how you would feel if you had wasted four years and $50K at Brandeis?
Can you imagine being a potential employer and seeing a Brandeis resume?
Worst of all, imagine being a current Brandeis student and realizing that you are surrounded by idiots.
Professor, do we really need more evidence that the Left is just stupid? More analysis as to how we have come to this pass is what we need. And, of course, a guide as to how to return to rationality.
I’m not so sure more analysis is needed. Solutions, pushback, and louder voices have to happen soon. We cannot continue to disregard their “stupidity” as their ideology spreads throughout academia and poisons our young people? I’ve spoken with conservative journalists who have just about given up on the country, but continue to write hoping there is some tiny chance the United States will survive united.
