Stay Tuned: Cheney Declares J6 Holding “Much More” Evidence of Possible Crimes

For weeks, critics of the J6 Committee have noted that the committee members promised to present compelling evidence to support criminal charges, but it has not yet presented that case after nine hearings. Even some Democratic figures, including former prosecutor and former Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), do not believe a strong case has been made for an indictment.  Now, Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) is making the same claim that there is “much more” undisclosed evidence but says that the Committee will not release the evidence (including possible criminal referrals) until the Fall — just before the midterm elections.

At the start of the hearings, committee members promised they had the long-sought smoking-gun evidence — new material that would close the circle on Trump. Committee member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) indicated he thought there was now “credible evidence” to support a variety of criminal charges. His colleague, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), said the committee would show that Trump organized a “coup” on Jan. 6, 2021.

No sooner had the hearings begun when many in the media declared that the criminal case had been conclusively proven — even though most of what was being presented was already generally known.

Looking objectively at the evidence, the committee never supplied “credible” proof of crimes. That is not to say the evidence is not shocking. Indeed, it is like a series of “jump scares” involving Trump and others raising unfounded or unconstitutional courses of conduct.

Now, on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” Cheney said

“The committee has been, I think, very thorough and laying out much of what we know. There’s much more that we have not yet shared in hearings, and we anticipate we will share in the fall. We will also make decisions about criminal referrals, and ultimately the decision about prosecutions is up to the Justice Department, but I would anticipate the committee will have an opinion on that.”

CNN Chief national affairs analyst Kasie Hunt did not ask about why the Congress would wait to disclose the information. Instead, she responded “You obviously have a lot more information than the general public does in your head about what happened that day. But when you started these hearings earlier this year, did you have any idea how much you would know by this point?” Spoiler alert: Cheney said no.

In reality, some of us have written that the J6 Committee has released a great deal of new details and accounts, but that information has largely amplified known allegations rather than add new material evidence in a criminal case against Trump.

The obvious unasked question would raise the fact that the delay of any new releases would coincide with the midterm elections. Cheney has been criticized by critics for participating in a one-sided series of hearings devoid of alternative or dissenting views. Some have called it a “show trial” with members reading off teleprompters in tightly scripted and controlled hearings. As if to fulfill that show trial portrayal, Cheney ended the last hearing by calling for more officials to come forward and noting that Trump family members and former officials have now come forward with their own public “confessions.”

At the same time, Cheney and the Committee Chair have repeatedly stressed that voters cannot allow Trump to return to power and made repeated references to the upcoming election. The lack of any balance in the scope of examinations or presentation of evidence only magnifies the appearance of an investigation tailored to political rather than investigative priorities.

So now Cheney is saying “stay tuned” once again like a sequel that never quite ends. Of course, the members know that their control will end if the midterms result (as expected) in the GOP retaking the House. The Republicans have stated an intention to conduct their own investigation into why the House was unprepared for the riot despite warnings of possible violence.

The Jan. 6 committee has made a case against Trump personally and politically. It has not done so criminally. Timing further releases to coincide with the election will do little in establishing an interest in building a criminal rather than a political case.

  1. The daughter of the war criminal Dick Cheney is trying to convince the public that, after over 5 years of intensive and abusive scrutiny of every to-do-with Donald Trump, it was the last weeks of his first term to finally find a “crime” they can pin Trump? Absurd! If the Democrats, and especially the NeverTrump RINOs, knew the level of contempt and repugnance so many Americans feel towards them, they would seek refuge in China. The anger is real, and bringing former VP Cheney, an architect of the Patriot Act, the never-ending War of Terror, the failed invasion of Iraq, and the WMD hoax, adds fuel to the fire.

  2. Related: How can the federal grand jury subpoena Trump’s lawyers? Based on some hunch they were involved in some conspiracy to overthrow the govt? Were any lawyers for Communists subpoenaed by grand juries during the McCarthy-HUAC Red Scare Era when the US was actually at war with Communists in Korea? I can guarantee it never happened to the lawyers for the Chicago Seven.

    1. Cipollone wasn’t Trump’s personal lawyer.

Also, they can subpoena lawyers, and if they ask for privileged info, the lawyer can say so in refusing to answer.

  3. If they have all this evidence…hand it over to the DOJ and let the chips fall as they may. They are wasting everyone’s time with this ad nauseam Democrat campaign ad. They should also get therapy for their TDS.

  4. If they really had the goods, Garland would have indicted him and he would be in jail. This is ALL grandstanding and on the taxpayer’s dime while these pathetic parasites SHOULD be doing the people’s BUSINESS. I guess we have the government we merit until enough true legal Americans stand up and make a change.

    1. “They have nothing. And they haven’t had anything to indict President Trump with and not even close to holding any kind of evidence they could have indicted him with. It is every Democrats dream, to see this man in handcuffs and you can be rest assured if this laughable Democrat side show of an investigation . had any evidence that they could refer to Merrick Garland with, that would indict him on just one charge beyond a shadow of a doubt, they would have done coughed it Up, a long long time ago. Folks make no mistake, No mistake on that whatsoever. They would have.”

    2. This investigation hasn’t been going on as long as the Watergate investigation before Nixon resigned. It takes time to investigate.

Garland isn’t going to indict Trump unless he has a strong case. Learn to be more patient.

  5. The possibility arises that if the J6 committee waits till just before the election to drop it’s “bombshell” or the Justice Dept does the same, it is entirely possible that this will piss off most Trump supporters and could drive voting even more. Especially if the “bombshell” comes through with a whimper. Trump is not running for anything. What the democrats and the mainstream media do not realize is that Trump, in 2016, listened to the discontent and rode it the White House. He also had lower chances of winning the election than many of the other Republicans except for Jeb Bush. He did not make this change but rode the Wave. Ron Desantis and other Republicans of a similar view wait in the wings and came step easily into the role no matter what happens to Trump. I think that people like Desantis, Nikki Haley, Kristi Noem, Mike Pompeo and others will present an existential threat to the Democratic plans and none carry the baggage of Trump. Taking out Trump only releases others who can use his format yet get better results and are less likely to self destruct like Trump. Be careful what you wish for because you may get it and the unintended and unforeseen consequences.

    1. GEB,
      Great analysis.
We all know this clown show is nothing about justice or evidence as we should of seen it by now. It is nothing but 6 years of “GET TRUMP!”
I was just thinking if Trump announces he is not running in 2024, where would that leave the Jan6 committee?

A new Gallup poll showed Americans were most concerned with inflation, the economy and bad governance. Those were the top three.
Issues that did not even make the top 10: COVID, Jan6 hearings, climate change.

      1. Upstate Farmer without stating an opinion as to whether or not Trump will run, the longer he remains a possibility the more energies the left focuses on him which indirectly helps other Republican candidates. I have confidence in Trump and DeSantis. I am not sure about the others. Pompeo might be militarily more aggressive than Trump which to me is a negative though I like him.

    2. The only possibility of taking out DT is De Santis. If DT has no big health issues, and it seems the Dems can not get Criminal charge to stick, and I don’t see that happening. Then DT will chap again, all Dems arses with reelection. For the record, the Aug, Sept, Oct disclosures will be karma kicking butts of the Dem Socialists’. Stay observant.

    3. (I think that people like Desantis, Nikki Haley, Kristi Noem, Mike Pompeo)

My observation: Desantis, Pretty good by his continued action. Yesterday he Fired/Remove a Ph’in Creep Soros’ Prosecutor. Great News.

Nikki Haley, Stupid, foolish, reckless, American Hater that caused all kind of trouble because of pulling down the SC flag because of another Dangerous Idiot, a white guy. Haley’s action set off chain reactions that allowed American Enemies to Start Burning Down our Nation!!!

Send Nakki’s azz/boobs back to India & throw her back to the bottom of their Cast System.

Kristi Noem, compromised by big corporate, not Strong Enough.

Mike Pompeo, Evil, CIA, admits publicly he’s a lair & trained to do so.

Try Rand Paul, MTG & the congress lady from Colorado, Rep Chip Roy Tx., & some others.

    4. Out of everybody in your short little list here’s the name that popped up at me like a piece of toast so fast. Nikki Haley. I can tell just by your comment that you are not really, “in the know,”. Pertaining to the entire MAGA-COMMUNITY.” Your not. You have no idea just how much the community despises her with a pathological passion. If she ran on the Republican ticket, which you and I both know that she would, that’s an election that chances are we would lose because so many of us would stay home. WE HATE HER THAT MUCH!!

  6. No, President Trump is not Jesus Christ, but Democrats and most notably this J6 commission, are the modern-day Sanhedrin. While they endlessly pursue the political death of Donald Trump, they breathe more and more life into his America First agenda. The J6 committee will ultimately fail, not because of the fate of their target, but because they cannot destroy a belief in an ideology loved by the American people.

  7. Cheney is about as credible as her “WMD” dad. I don’t know who is the audience for these crackpots, but they sure prove PT Barnum’s words of wisdom — a sucker born every minute, and they all seem to join the Democratic party.

  8. If the committee had any evidence of criminal activity by Trump it would have been presented in any one of their nine “hearings.” Or, it would have been leaked to the press.

  9. Dick Cheney is a war criminal! Why is ANYONE giving his look-alike, sound-alike, God-awful spawn the time of day?

Two weeks until Wyoming kicks her a$$ to the curb. Good riddance.

  10. Most of the witnesses against Trump were the most loyal Trump Republicans – very few Democrats! Today’s GOP would likely kick out Lincoln, Eisenhower and even Ronald Reagan. Reagan would wouldn’t be extreme enough to survive in today’s Republican Party. We have real conservatives like George Will repulsed by the devolution of today’s Republican Party.

These were Trump cabinet officials that loved Trump but then considered invoking the 25th Amendment when Trump betrayed his constitutional Oath of Office.

Democrats are great scape goats but these were Trump Republicans that knew him better than any Trump voter!

  11. This is just one proof that this whole thing is political. Holding the “evidence” until the fall proves it. They know Democrats are going to lose big time so they’re going to come up with some kind of BS for an “October surprise.” These people are corrupt. Bennie Thompson, for example, stays in office because of the color of his skin and the district he “represents.” Cheney is desperate.

  12. Just heard Liz father (Mr WMD) campaign announcement for Liz. My impression, vote for Liz she hates Trump. Nothing on fuel prices, inflation, crime, the border, zippo nothing. Hopefully the people she represent will send her home to daddy.

  13. The DOJ has subpoenaed Pat Cipollone to testify before a grand jury focused on its January 6 investigation. We only know this because Cipollone’s lawyers chose to make it public — the DOJ itself does not announce the names of its grand jury witnesses.

As Cheney said, “ultimately the decision about prosecutions is up to the Justice Department.” I care what information is shared in the J6 Committee hearings, which already make clear that Trump was derelict in responding to the Capitol riot, but I don’t really care whether the J6 Committee makes a criminal case, because that responsibility is the DOJ’s.

    1. Anonymous, you conveniently leave out the fact that the pentagon offered National Guard troops on Jan 6 but their offer was rejected. You say that you don’t care if the committee makes a criminal case or not but no matter what you care about the committee is trying to present facts that portray that Donals Trump has committed criminal acts and the committee is trying to sell the fact that there are more criminal acts to come. If no criminality is to be found then what’s the purpose of the committee? Now when it’s all being exposed as a political hit job you tell us that proof of criminal wrong doing is no longer important. You commit a metaphorical hurried jumping of the ship as the leaks become more and more severe. Do you remember when you where all in?

      1. We could just check the Pentagon text messages from January 5th & 6th, oh wait, they’ve disappeared too along with the Secret Service and top appointees of the Department of Homeland Security.

      2. ” If no criminality is to be found then what’s the purpose of the committee?”

Learn the function of Congress: to legislate. They’re already working on revising the ECA in response to what they’ve learned.

  14. Liz is the DNC’s mob boss…Compare it with a mob enforcer

Confessions of Sammy the Bull Gravano

John Gotti gave orders for Sammy to hit Gambino made man Tommy Sparrow. Sammy didn’t like the job.

  15. One year ago, public approval of the job congress was doing was at 28%. Today it is at 16%. Things like the J6 star chamber debacle is contributing to this demise. But help is less than 100 days away!

  16. An invitation extended, a rug summarily pulled, a riot forced, an unarmed woman shot in cold blood, another unarmed woman beaten to death, others violently assaulted then incarcerated violating civil rights, and probable Whitmer event.

Over 24 trimesters of Democrat/Republican-aligned nationwide, neighborhood incursions, violence, and insurrections in progress.

  17. If they had actual evidence of a crime committed by Donald Trump they could have presented it on the first day of the hearings and it would all be over. Instead the committee is prolonging their efforts past the point of effectiveness. It’s like posts on YouTube that begin with the word “shocking!!!” People know it’s just a click bait scam but some still fall for it over and over again. Nevertheless, a scam is still a scam.

    1. If Liz Cheney, Adam Schiff, J6 committee, CIA, FBI, other intel outfits were not desperate & innocent they wouldn’t still be so fearful of releasing to the public all unedited uncut audio/video & all other exculpatory evidence.

    2. They could have turned over evidence and have continued still. Just because it’s not publicly known doesn’t mean they have handed it to the DOJ.

  18. I believe a scripture in the bible states at John 3:16 that, “For God loved the world that he did not send a committee”, or something to that effect.

  19. Watching or reading Trump’s Ellipse speech, which is plainly self-incriminating about the plan to interfere with the EC vote count — boldly stating both motive (“and I’ll be President”) and means (“if Mike Pence does the right thing”), and tagging his two co-conspirators Giuliani and Eastman. That’s a slam dunk for conspiracy to impede an official proceeding of Congress. The name “Stop the Steal” given to the rally is an implicit admission of intent to impede the peaceful transfer of Presidential power.

But, what could this undisclosed evidence point to? A group was meeting at the Willard Hotel right up to the night of Jan 5th. This group was presumably led by Steve Bannon. If there was planning with militant groups to seize the EC ballot boxes and remove them from the House Chamber, then this widens the conspiracy and aggravates the brazenness of stopping Congress from performing its duty under the Constitution.

If an attempt to hold onto the Presidency after electoral defeat is not somehow a serious crime, then what is our form of government except a game favoring the unsavory, dirty-dealing power-monger?

The petty autocrats of the world are watching closely to see if our system is corruptible at the level of nation-state capture.

    1. This is badly informed. The election is not over until Congress certifies the electors. The Vice President/President of the Senate is critical to the process. He can send back the electors and initiate an investigation if he so chooses. That is what Trump was asking for. He’s entitled to believe an investigation could prove him right and he’s well within his rights to request one. The notion that Trump ordered Pence to declare him the winner, and when he didn’t Trump set out to kill him is propaganda that only works on badly informed people.

      1. “ The Vice President/President of the Senate is critical to the process. He can send back the electors and initiate an investigation if he so chooses. That is what Trump was asking for.”

No, he can’t do that. Pence had no constitutional authority to “send back the electors”. All Pence is required to do is count the votes and certify the winner. He has no other duty besides that. That’s why Pence wouldn’t do what Trump wanted, because it’s illegal and unconstitutional.

      2. I didn’t claim either that Pence was supposed to declare Trump the winner, nor that Trump intended to have militants kill Pence. Those are not factual elements of the plot — they are defensive infowarfare to erect an easily defeated strawman.

The plot entailed pressuring Pence to reject (or send back) enough EC votes to bring Biden’s total under the 270 required for a win. You think it’s a matter of opinion whether the Presiding Officer of the Joint Session has such power, but Eastman admitted to the other WH lawyers around Jan 4th that such an expansive interpretation of his role (enough power to overturn the voters in the states) would lose 0-9 under Supreme Court review.

Then, based on nobody getting 270 EC votes by 1:00 pm on Jan 6th, per the Constitution, the election would be resolved in the House of Representatives, each state delegation casting 1 vote. That would guarantee Trump a “Constitutional” win 26-24.

The political crime was fabricating and amplifying a misinformation campaign about having “won by a landslide” — basically refusing to accept electoral defeat. This is an unparalleled affront to state-by-state elections and the EC being the way we chose a President. It is an attempted nullification of democracy.

If there is no crime or punishment for such brazen power-mongering, then it will be tried again and again until successful.
And that risks a Civil War, which only simple-minded fantasizers think ends well and clean. Total dominance/submission of political opponents is the stuff of petty autocrats, of which we seem to have too many in our country at this juncture — on both sides.

        1. You are making a type of puffery into a crime. I understand your feelings, but I wish you would state the criminal act and then the proof that a criminal act occurred.

      3. “He can send back the electors and initiate an investigation if he so chooses.”

        No he can’t.

Don’t take my word for it. Listen to retired conservative federal appellate Judge Michael Luttig’s testimony before the J6 Committee.

    2. One question that has remained unanswered is: How exactly was anyone involved in the events on January 6 going to prevent the transfer of power?

      1. Olly,
The answer to that is you have to truly believe a disorganized mob, with no clear plan aside from making it up as they go, unarmed, and a tattooed guy with a buffalo head dress were going to not only prevent the transfer of power, but overthrow the entire US government to include the military.

Right now, in Afghanistan, the Taliban is laughing at all this.

        1. “ Right now, in Afghanistan, the Taliban is laughing at all this.”

Not only them, but so are the powers that be that run China 🇨🇳 Russia 🇷🇺 North Korea 🇰🇵 Mexico 🇲🇽 Brazil 🇧🇷 Italy 🇮🇹 The UK 🇬🇧
Norway 🇳🇴 Sweden 🇸🇪 Germany 🇩🇪 just about every other country on the face of the earth is laughing at our government. And laughing at our countrymen for electing such an absolute idiot, that barely has control of his faculties. I am hoping that everybody and I mean absolutely everybody that pays attention to politics knows beyond a shadow of a doubt why.

The actual real reason behind keeping Joe Biden locked up for all intents and purposes at his own residence. I hope, they do know why he stayed at his house and didn’t hit the campaign trail with both feet! because it is blatantly obvious why he didn’t hit the trail. HE COULDN’T DO IT!! MENTALLY Number 1. PHYSICALLY, Number 2.

      2. By stopping the certification of the vote in Congress and then replacing the certified electors of several states Trump lost with some that will vote for him. The electoral college vote swings to Trump and he is declared President.

Stopping the congressional vote on January 6th, was preventing the transfer power but that would only be a delay. Switching the electors was required to change the result.

        1. By stopping the certification of the vote in Congress and then replacing the certified electors of several states Trump lost with some that will vote for him. The electoral college vote swings to Trump and he is declared President.

Thank you. That tells me the technical process that would be required. It’s not unlike Schiff’s parody of the Trump’s Zelensky phone call. Democrats have conjured up a Trump master criminal plan to overthrow the government, but they have provided no evidence to suggest how such a plot was even feasible. I have no doubt Trump wanted a new (favorable) slate of electors. Hell, I wanted a new slate. But believing rioters at the capitol were going to prevent the transfer of power is not even a B movie storyline that would sell.

          1. Olly,
The fact they resumed the session and proceeded with the certification of the election a few hours later, tells me exactly how little of a threat the mob was.
However, the committee has to push that narrative as if it was some truly awesome threat to democracy, and they have the bombshell evidence to prove Trump was the mastermind behind it all.
And yet all we have are duds.
Pop-culture reference, reports have it the new Bat Girl movie, despite being completed, after pre-screening reviews were so bad, the studio decided to cancel the release of this $70m . . . “dud.”
Perhaps the Jan5 committee should follow suit in their own “dud.”
