Sen. Bob Menendez is Reportedly Under Investigation for Corruption . . . Again

Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., is under federal criminal investigation … again. The voters of New Jersey reelected Menendez despite his accepting lavish gifts from a businessman who was later convicted of fraud. Menendez was also charged but the case was dismissed after a jury hung on the verdict. As I noted at the time of the trial, Menendez was a “juror” in a trial that I handled in the Senate and he maintained a position completely at odds with his own later defense.

In the prior case against the Senator, prosecutors accused Menendez of accepting close to $1 million in contributions and lavish gifts in exchange for political favors. The trial ended with a hung jury and the charges were dismissed in 2018.

That history did not prevent the Democrats making Menendez the chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

ABC and other outlets have confirmed the new investigation. Reports indicated that the investigation raised similar allegations to the 2018 case.

In 2018, I noted that the most poignant and powerful case against Menendez was made in his own words.

It was 2010, and Menendez was voting against my client federal Judge Thomas Porteous in Porteous’s impeachment trial.

The charges were laid out plainly before U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.):

“… engag[ing] in a corrupt relationship [and] as part of this corrupt relationship … solicit[ation] and accept[ance] of numerous things of value, including meals, trips, home repairs, and car repairs, for his personal use and benefit while at the same time taking official actions that benefitted [his friend].”

Menendez was resolute. He stood up in front of his colleagues and declared that receiving gifts ranging from free meals to wedding gifts was, plain and simple, corruption.

Notably, while many of his colleagues voted “not guilty” on Dec. 8, 2010, to Count Two (which focused on the gifts and travel benefits) against Judge Porteous, Menendez did not. He voted “guilty” on that and all of the other counts.

Menendez ultimately escaped conviction based on the very arguments that he rejected when another man stood accused in the well of the U.S. Senate. In his own trial, he called a couple dozen witnesses, including Cory Booker, New Jersey’s junior Democratic U.S. senator, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who spoke to his good character.

The one witness who did not appear was Menendez himself.

  1. The old saying…”Laws for thee , but NOT for me”. And the idiot Jersey voters put him back in office to do it again and the Senate gives him a PROMOTION!

    1. Northern New Jersey. New Yorkers who moved here. Here in SOUTHERN New Jersey, it is the opposite. It’s like NYC votes win for NY, whilst upstate NYers are Republicans. It sucks. AND…my vote did NOT count in the Presidential election with the mail in voting. They had a web site where you could track it, and mine was received but not counted. Cheaters.

      1. I’m a born and bred Jersey girl and I live up North for now but given the opportunity I would move to South Jersey in a NY minute!

        1. I’m in central Jersey where my husband and I landed because of job opportunity. My husband and I debated for a long time if this was where we really wanted to raise our family and ultimately decided to stay since we wanted to be nearby his parents. Northern NJ seems worse as my daughter and her husband moved there, also for work. They couldn’t leave fast enough and are now in kinder, gentler Pennsylvania.

    2. Maybe the judge needed a better lawyer:

On December 7, 2010, the full Senate began hearing the impeachment trial. Senate President pro tempore Daniel Inouye presided over the trial. Jonathan Turley, acting in Judge Porteous’s defense, announced that Judge Porteous had decided to leave the federal bench in 2011 were he not removed from office.

The following day, the Senate voted unanimously to convict Porteous on the first of four impeachment charges, removing him from the bench, before subsequently convicting him on the remaining three articles. In a separate vote, per a motion by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, the Senate disqualified Porteous from ever holding “any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States” again. He is one of only three former federal officers to be permanently banned from holding federal office after being impeached and removed.

Article I – engaging in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with the trust and confidence placed in him as a Federal judge – Convicted in the Senate by a vote of 96–0.[34]
Article II – engaged in a longstanding pattern of corrupt conduct that demonstrates his unfitness to serve as a United States District Court Judge – Convicted in the Senate by a vote of 69–27.[35]
Article III – knowingly and intentionally making false statements, under penalty of perjury, related to his personal bankruptcy filing and violating a bankruptcy court order – Convicted in the Senate by a vote of 88–8.[36]
Article IV – knowingly made material false statements about his past to both the United States Senate and to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in order to obtain the office of United States District Court Judge – Convicted in the Senate by a vote of 90–6.[37]
Disqualification – Forever disqualified to hold any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States – Disqualified by the Senate by a vote of 94–2.[38][39]
On January 15, 2011, Porteous gave up his law license in lieu of facing discipline, and agreed to never practice law in Louisiana again. According to the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, Porteous’s conviction by the Senate effectively ended his legal career.

  2. What’s the word I’m looking for??? . . . feckless, shiftless, charlatan, mountebank . . . oh wait, I have it . . . hypocrite!

  3. Democrats are in the news alot these days but for all of the wrong reasons

Democrat Blows Whistle on Alleged Ballot Harvesting Scheme, Florida Opens Criminal Probe

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ new election crimes unit has recommended state police open a full criminal investigation into a Democrat whistleblower’s detailed complaint of a long-running, widespread ballot harvesting operation in the African-American communities in politically important central Florida.

Former Orange County Commissioner candidate Cynthia Harris filed a sworn affidavit in late August with the Secretary of State’s office alleging that illegal operations to collect third-party ballots have been going on for years in the Orlando area where voting activists are paid $10 for each ballot they collect.

  4. Trump proved beyond any doubt, corruption does NOT matter. To the republican party, or the cult45, it did not matter what Trump did. If in your face corruption did not matter with Trump, then so what to the others.

    1. Uh-huh. LOL. Look dude, you can play whataboutism all you like, but Trump did not sell-out his constituents like this degenerate Senator, or the Congressional Black and Hispanic caucuses, like Brandon has and contiues to do, like DiFi did, etc etc etc.

Trump is an angel compared to those sell-outs. You keep thinking Trump is some evildoer because that is the only concept that keeps you and the rest of the brainwashed masses off the rooftops trying to get down the fastest.

menedez is scum, a likely pedophile, and as corrupt as it gets.

And you and your ilk downplay it like this just so you can keep aborting babies, importing illegals and drugs, and not helping a damned citized, just as they’ve done for 6 decades, now.

Quit enabling monsters like meendez. You have to be sick to do that.

      1. I remember the first time I heard “Lolita Express”, it was Bob Menendez’s name attached to it.

    2. Haha.
Exactly what was he convicted of?
      Having the best economy ever?
China Joe is the definition of corruption.

    3. Can you give us an example of this corruption Trump was involved in? The Democrats have been trying to convict Trump on anything since 2016, yet keep failing. So surely you must have the goods!

  5. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”

    – Lord Acton

If the FBI can do Menendez, the FBI can do Hunter, Joe, James and the entire Biden Crime Family, but once the FBI (Fake Bureau of Investigation) gets started, it won’t be able to stop.

The FBI and America are absolutely corrupt, as demonstrated by Comey’s refusal to prosecute Hillary, and by extension, Obama.

“[If Comey had indicted Hillary, Comey would have convicted Obama].”

    – Andrew C. McCarthy

“It Wasn’t Comey’s Decision to Exonerate Hillary – It Was Obama’s,” National Review, Sept. 2, 2017

  6. What is this preternatural power that is making people hold on to modern Democrats? Seriously. *DID* someone make a deal with Satan? I joke, and I know that very few politicians are pure as the driven snow, I’ve had a little time around these people in my life, and even the best of them have god-like delusions, but I can’t take people seriously in the *constituency* that are so religiously focused on party that they ignore what party is actually doing. We have a very good system, and the modern Dems are exclusively focused now, right now, on October 27th, 2022, on destroying it with every dollar and connection they have. That’s kinda all there is. They do not want a Constitutional Republic, and they will do whatever is necessary to destroy it, and are, right now.

    1. What is the preternatural power?

It’s the power of “free stuff.”

It’s the power of matriculation affirmative action, grade-inflation affirmative action, employment affirmative action, quotas, welfare, food stamps, minimum wage, rent control, social services, forced busing, public housing, utility subsidies, WIC, SNAP, TANF, HAMP, HARP, TARP, HHS, HUD, EPA, Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Labor, Energy, Obamacare, Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplemental Income, Medicare, Medicaid, “Fair Housing” laws, “Non-Discrimination” laws, illegal invasion under the guise of immigration followed by illegal amnesties with promises of no more amnesties, etc.

  7. As the saying goes “screw me once, ….” New Jersey gets exactly what it deserves – a corrupt official living off pork and giving the middle finger salute to residents. What a shame!
