Professor Natalie Gosnell has declared that astrophysics is a racist field. That itself is not unique. We have discussed how professors like Rhode Island professor Erik Loomis have declared math, statistics, and technology as “inherently racist.” However, Gosnell’s reason is that academia continues to focus on “individualism” and “exceptionalism.”
The Colorado College blog reported:
“As an astrophysicist, I’m a product of institutions that are steeped in systemic racism and white supremacy…The [tenets] of white supremacy that show up [in physics] of individualism and exceptionalism and perfectionism… it’s either-or thinking, and there’s…no subtlety, there’s no gray area.”
The attack on individualism and exceptionalism is a growing trend. We previously discussed how “meritocracy” is racist and furthers “white supremacy.”
Professor Natalie Gosnell also objected to “metaphors” that she believes reflect a “violent” and “hypermasculine” bias. With the exception of the big bang theory, it is not clear what the violence inherent in the astrophysics field might be. The article mentions examples of this “violent, hyper-masculine lens” as the “Vampire Star” and “Cannibal Star.”
It is not clear what might be suggested for feminine or non-violent alternatives, but there is a risk in proposing such changes since that could be seen as a play at “exceptionalism” as an academic.
Nuts.
MEESKITE….an opinion from an assistant professor isn’t even sporting…epic fail and not worth making fun of….a pretty personality would be a step in the right direction….
What she’s really saying is that diversity can only accomplished by destroying meritocracy because “they’re” inherently intellectual inferior as proven by “their” socio-techno-economic achievement on a global scale.
As a student of the 1960s and early 70’s we had many phrases that we used in jest which has now become a serious threat to meritocracy and the exceptionalism of brilliant people and who lead and inspire us all. First were the degrees. Bs b—lbs—t, Ms more of the same, PhD piled higher and deeper. No doubt that these are still around. The others were that “those who can do, Do”. “Those that can’t, teach”. We had respect for those who went into the private sector and came back, at times, to give over their acquired knowledge to a new group of students. These college views used to be corralled in the insane asylums of higher education but now this idiocy has broken free and is out there and despoiling the rest of the world. It has soiled medical schools and faculties, Law schools and faculties, professional schools and even spread its poison into the private sector and business world. One wonders what will happen when the United States has to face a nation and economy based on reality and merit. Will it be a Sputnik Moment or will it be a Pearl Harbor moment or a 9/11 or even worse, or will it be like the Vandals and Visigoths sacking Rome as the forum and all the monuments to greatness burn and collapse. Our choice.
I’d suggest this article as it stimulates some interesting thoughts…
1 Quote of note:
“Hence, we jump to the conclusion that something is terribly unfair about society and that some form of enforced equity would solve that problem. Since nothing in nature or human society is naturally fair, this is a tall order. What makes it even more difficult to achieve is the fact that none of us is born equal. Secondly, it appears to be impossible to appreciably increase talent, intelligence, and personal drive, so the only way we can create equality is by hamstringing the capable so the incapable can catch up. Only, they never do. So, all we accomplish is the muzzling of greatness and the celebration of mediocrity.

Indeed, thank you.
As we used to say in South Austin, Natalie Gosnell’s rejection of “individualism and exceptionalism and perfectionism” as proof of white supremacy is ironical. In her bio, Dr. Gosnell states that she was a “W. J. McDonald Postdoctoral Fellow” at the University of Texas. Surely she knows that by virtue of his individualism, exceptionalism and perfectionism, Mr. McDonald, orphaned as a child, rose to become a very wealthy lawyer and banker who gave his fortune to the University of Texas which used it to build the McDonald Observatory in which I am sure Gosnell spent a fair amount of time during her postdoctoral fellowship.
The attack on individualism is an attack on founding principles, such as individual rights and rejection of group rights and tribalism, which are a platform for racism and persecution. To identify first as an American citizen above our ethnic and tribal identity is to accept that each of us are endowed with inalienable rights from a power that the State is accountable to.
. . . astrophysics are racist.
And a relative of mine once said: These lox are pretty salty.
You must have fixed it while I was typing, LOL.
Whether by legitimate means or underhanded behavior, the development of the world tilts white, and some may not like that. Let us look at all the benefits that have grown out of that whiteness, medicine for example. I am surprised there has not been a movement to halt the use of any medical advances that can be traced back to whiteness. Well, I am not really surprised because these people who are virtue signalling are unlikely to do anything that could personally harm them.
Astrology must not be racist under her criteria. Or science fiction.
We need to stop discussing this idiocy as if it would eventually burn itself out. Instead, we need to diagnose this as the cancer that it is. The language these Marxists use to describe some western civilization evil is actually symptoms of this Marxist cancer. This cancer has metastasized through the educational system.
We need to remove the tumors like Professor Natalie Gosnell and then use “chemo” to flush out the remaining cancer cells wherever they are found.
Is she saying that as an astrophysicist she is racist? Or is she being virtuous because she doesn’t think she is racist? If she isn’t a racist then she must not believe in individualism, exceptionalism, and perfectionism. Therefore she must be mediocre, should not be a professor, so should either quit or be fired. Who would want someone mediocre teaching them. I wonder if this stupidity will ever end?
Karen Ann – people who make these types of bombastic statements rarely live consistently with their assertions. If she had to have a life-saving operation, she would want a surgeon who was exceptional, not one who fell into a gray area of mediocrity. Also see the excerpt of her internet bio which I copied below.
Her Colorado College bio says: My research focuses on the evolutionary histories and future evolution of canonically strange binary stars. I use space-based observations from the Hubble Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory, in addition to ground-based optical and near-infrared data, to determine the formation histories of objects such as blue straggler stars and X-ray binaries.
How is it not hypocritical to use these technologies when they were, by her account, produced through institutions and ways of thinking steeped in white supremacy, individualism, exceptionalism, perfectionism, and either-or thinking? It reminds one of Stephen Hawking who supported boycotting Israel while using Israeli technology to communicate.
Sounds like cultural appropriation to me. She needs to give it all back. And Karine Jean-Pierre needs to stop stealing Shirley Temple’s hairdo!
Hypocrisy runs deep and unnoticed within the prog/left brain. They are ignorant of their ignorance.
“there’s no gray area.”
What exactly would her “gray area” look like on a rocket preparing to launch into outer space? Or on a satellite preparing to orbit a distant object?
“Gray area?” That’s ageism, buddy!! I want reparations!!
Weren’t we just joking yesterday about “gravitational practicums?” How do you make satire when reality beats you to it?
I infer that she is accomplishing nothing within her field, and is angling for a boost based on her DEI commitment.
What – no mention of the transphobia in astrophysics? Ms. Gosnell, you need to do better!
Do racist Leftist snowflakes EVER stop sniveling and whining? E-V-E-R?
@tallywhacker
Given that the oldest millennials are in their early 40s now, the answer appears to be, ‘Never.’.
Generationally, there may never be a realistic way to address it. We will just have to do better with subsequent generations and squeeze the woke out from both sides. Thankfully, due to the fact that reality doesn’t care about their feelings, they tend to ultimately fail at pretty much everything, and the bank of mom and dad will not be around forever for most.
Is there enough stamina within us to hold out for the aging out of these lost humanoids (I use this term at this point being not certain just what genetic damage was/is done by those vaccines.
I believe that almost all of these lunatics are vaccine injured. The lipid nanoparticles in the vax cross the blood-brain barrier. My guess is that all of them are heavily vaxxed.
tallywhacker asks: “Do racist Leftist snowflakes EVER stop sniveling and whining? E-V-E-R?”
After you’ve received such critical acclaim playing Aunt Pittypat to vast audiences, it’s difficult to surrender that role.
“it’s either-or thinking”
It’s always a bit comical when “thinkers” denounce either-or thinking, while using either-or thinking. (It’s called reaffirmation in the act of denial.)
I am beginning to think that it is either a quick grasp at one-minute notariety or just plain deeply ingrained miseducation/misinformation. When will this person quit her job in total despair.
If we do not reward exceptionalism. the improvement of the human condition dies.
So apparently a rising standard of living is racist.
Certain members of our society lack even that basic logical understanding. Whether that is a genetic trait or something brainwashed into them is a question to be asked, especially if we want to rid this nation of its toxic import.

When the revolution comes, i’m going to enjoy the purge of these damnable racist collectivists.
Enjoy.
Relish.
