President Joe Biden has been a regular recipient of “Pinocchios” by the Washington Post for his false statements on subjects ranging from election laws to abortion protections to deficit reduction. Biden is undeterred and regularly repeats false stories from his life that have ranged from an invented arrest with Nelson Mandela to a zombie-like train conductor. Undeterred, this week he continued with the false claim about the “Joey, Baby” conductor. Now, the President has a fresh set of “Four Pinocchios,” but the false claim is far more serious than inventing a conductor or rewriting the history of the Second Amendment. The Post is admitting that Biden has been lying about how his son Hunter never made money from China. It is the latest indication that the protective media wall surrounding Biden is beginning to crumble under the weight of new evidence in the corruption scandal.
Glenn Kessler wrote yesterday that Biden has repeatedly and categorically maintained that his son did not receive money from China.
“But now, nearly three years later, Biden’s assertions have been directly rebutted by Hunter himself. In court testimony last week, the younger Biden acknowledged that he in fact had been paid substantial sums in China — the first official confirmation that this was the case.”
What is curious is that Kessler and the Post waited for Hunter to effectively confess rather than take notice of money transfers and records released by House committees investigating the corruption scandal. The Post and most of the media have taken little observable journalistic interest in independently confirming such payments or benefits. Instead, the media has adopted a largely passive stance and waited for confessions rather than find confirmation.
Kessler noted that these dealings overlapped with the President’s travels and meetings:
“Twelve days after he flew to Beijing, Hunter Biden joined the board of a just-formed investment advisory firm known as BHR (Bohai, Harvest and Rosemont), whose partners included Chinese entities, including the man he introduced to his father. Separately, after Joe Biden left public office, Hunter Biden in 2017 inked a deal with CEFC China Energy, a Chinese energy conglomerate. The Washington Post reported last year that documents, including emails found on a Hunter Biden laptop that emerged during the final weeks of the 2020 presidential campaign, showed that over the course of 14 months, the CEFC and its executives paid $4.8 million to entities controlled by Hunter Biden and President Biden’s brother, James.”
Nevertheless, the Post emphasized that it “did not find evidence that Joe Biden personally benefited from or knew details about the transactions with CEFC.” Of course, the Post has not been know to be particularly active in independently trying to confirm such benefits . . . absent another Biden admission or confession.
As with the clearly false claims that he had no knowledge or involvement in these dealings, the question is now not whether Joe Biden has been lying but why he has been lying.

As the WP article makes clear— their investigation shows Biden had already left office when Hunter signed the deal with CEPC and the Post was unable to find any evidence Biden received any financial payouts from that deal. But suppose he did. Both Biden and Hunter were private citizens. How could private business deals involve official “corruption”? Hunter clearly used the “Biden” family name to advance his businesses but “influence peddling” is not a crime.
Which brings us to your columns in the Daily Beast and USA Today yesterday about Jack Smith” indictment of DJT over Jan. 6. Proof positive that conservatives, like you, are not being “censored”. As pointed out in my comment yesterday Jack Smith is not prosecuting DJT for his false political statements about the 2020 election. You call the indictment “a free-speech killing case”. It’s not. You apparently glossed over page 2 of the indictment where Smith clearly makes clear up front that DJT’s false statements about the election were protected 1st Amendment speech. That includes his incendiary speech prior to the violent insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6. DJT is being charged under three federal conspiracy statutes. A “conspiracy” requires an agreement between two or more persons to commit an illegal act–plus overt acts in furtherance of the conspiracy. DJT is not being prosecuted for his WORDS but his ACTIONS in furtherance of the conspiracies, e.g., DJT’s call to Brad Raffensberger in Georgia change the election results, DJT’s overt act to try to get Mike Pence to stop the electoral college vote, the actual attack on the Capitol and the fake elector scheme. All were ACTS in furtherance of DJT’s conspiracy to overturn the election. Had DJT just left office claiming the election was “stolen” he would not have been indicted.
John Lauro, DJT’s attorney, is making the rounds of the TV talk shows making the same false claims as you–that the DOJ has “weaponized and politicized political speech”. Let’s be clear, Pedo Joe Bribin’ was caught in this lie long ago. He was adamant that he had never spoken to his son, brother or anyone else about his overseas business deals. He was equally adamant that Hunter had not made a penny from China.
So he was either lying about the first or talking out of his ass about the second. I say it was both both.
Hunter Biden is responsible for Hunter Biden’s business. Reporters can ask Joe Biden about Hunter Biden’s business, but it is like my Dad talking about my business. He does not know everything I do and may get some parts of it wrong when talking with his friends, but when he gets those facts wrong no one accuses him of lying. Because it is my business not his.

We know why he’s been lying. That seems like an odd question for Professor Turley to posit. And lying is certainly nothing new for Joe Biden. The really interesting part of all of this is how the left thought they could intentionally close their eyes to the corruption that has been obvious for decades and use the Biden syndicate to regain power from Trump and then just ditch him for someone better when the chickens started coming home to roost.
