Rep. Ilhan Omar Retweets False Photo of Palestinian Children Killed by Israeli Forces

Such controversies will continue. The point is only that those advocates of censorship today could well be the targets tomorrow. Rather than silence those who are accused of such false images or claims, the solution is to protect the right of everyone to speak for themselves and to challenge others in these important national debates.

We also recently discussed how figures like Leon Panetta and even the Washington Post continue to voice or embrace debunked claims.

I would oppose efforts to censor Reps. Omar and Ocasio-Cortez despite my disagreement with their views. It is possible that we can, as Americans, unite behind our common article of faith in free speech and oppose the calls for censorship that have been mindlessly echoed by many, including Rep. Omar.

  1. @Sam: ““Nobody is justifying the attack. But . . .” Well put…!!! .A detailed history of the Levant notwithstanding, the lack of knowledge, acumen and conversation regarding the meddling, influence and intrigues between foreign powers and the indigenous rulers, clerics of all stripe, fascists and other advocates of the establishment of police/totalitarian states, in the geopolitical history of the region from 1900 to the present, which suffered the consequences of two worlds wars, is not only astounding but appalling, particularly as it pertains to the dissemination of incontrovertible facts in the teaching of history in primary, secondary, and higher education, so as to yield and serve an informed world citizenry. No more perfect example of such a failing are to be found in some of the opinions being expressed herein by what one would expect from a more sophisticated, and highly educated company. Likely born too late, weren’t paying attention in class or were educated by mindless primitives who never read a newspaper or a historical treatise, listened to carefully to radio/TV news, or respected those who did. Some of them just don’t know WTF they are talking about!!

    1. There should be no place for this bigotry.

True, it’s a horrible crime, and fortunately this has not led to demonstrations in large cities in the U.S. and around the world calling for a day of rage against Muslim tenants (which would be illogical anyway since the victims in this case were Muslim tenants – so then where is the logic of a day of rage against Israel in response to an event where the victims of the atrocities were Israelis?). Nor has it led other nations to start attacking Muslims in solidarity with the landlord. Nor has it led to calls for Muslims to be wiped off the face of the earth. It is one isolated hate crime which should be condemned and prosecuted. It has been condemned, and will be prosecuted; nobody is praising the killer. OTOH, when hundreds of Israeli children are brutally raped and murdered, it leads nations and large groups of people to pile on and continue the victimization, praising the killers as noble freedom fighters, with threats against the victims and a worldwide day of rage against the victims.

      1. “where is the logic of a day of rage against Israel in response to an event where the victims of the atrocities were Israelis?”

You speak as if Israel has not taken any actions worth condemning, such as cutting off water and electricity to millions of civilians, about half of them children.

You note the hundreds of Israeli children who were murdered but are silent about the hundreds of Palestinian children murdered in return.

I condemn war crimes committed by Hamas.
I also condemn war crimes committed by Israel.

        A.N.D.

        1. The UN Human Rights Commission included the worst despots and killers on the planet. Many of those states committed atrocities to destroy the Jewish State and anyone else who doesn’t think like them. Even the report is wishy-washy and fails to document such crimes.

You have to be a mental case to believe that not supplying one’s enemy with the things needed for them to kill you is a war crime. Would you have provided gasoline to the Nazis when their tanks ran out of fuel?

          1. Thanks Meyer. While Nazi comparisons are a dime a dozen these days, in this instance it really fits. CNN would have been at Auschwitz’s gates when it was liberated asking the Jewish prisoners if they could guarantee not to commit war crimes against the Nazis.

            1. “CNN would have been at Auschwitz’s gates when it was liberated asking the Jewish prisoners if they could guarantee not to commit war crimes against the Nazis.”

              What BS.

Many of us Jews do not want Israel committing war crimes. There are Jews in front of the WH protesting for a ceasefire as we write. There are Jews in Israel who’ve lost family members to Hamas killings and are urging a ceasefire.

              A.N.D.

              1. People can advocate what they wish, but those same people recognize Hamas to be as animalistic as ISIS. Among Jews, they are very few, and their statements are not as white and black as you pretend. That you can’t understand ISIS and Hamas actions are the same tells us a lot about you.

That you make a statement as if the State of Israel is committed to War Crimes is disgusting and disgraceful. Many Israeli soldiers lost their lives in an attempt to reduce civilian casualties. That an individual soldier might be under stress and lash out is rare and not acceptable to Israel, its people, or Jews. The Israeli Army has been and is committed to keeping civilian casualties to a minimum.

We hear you pretending to be fair, but it is easily recognizable that you are unhinged and support those who kill and rape innocents. You are a disgrace and know it. That is the major reason you hide your name.

                1. Given the lengths to which Israel goes to avoid civilian casualties – it is the most advanced of all countries in developing and using tech for that purpose – suggesting Israel commits war crimes is off the road of reasonableness. It’s a wide road, but there are borders and sometimes they get crossed.

                2. Israel slaughter gazans at a 24 to 1 rate for decades. To claim they don’t angrily mow down civilians is a JOKE.

                  1. Only a dope thinks in your fashion.

A strange type of fairness dominates your brain waves. You think that deaths must be equal or there is a slaughter. That Hamas attacked Israeli civilians, raped women, and beheaded children, that the reply shouldn’t lead to so many deaths of terrorists. Only nutcases think like you think like that.

            2. Thank you oldman for the blurb. I heard it earlier but it is worth the second listen, I just posted a short speech by Douglas Murray. Make sure you listen. He is an eloquent man.

              1. ROFLMAO – you guys must need mental support because the truth is gurgling deep within, disturbing your inner selves.
Yes, I watched it and was LAUGHING at the pathetic stupidity of it.
I think he wants to be named an honorary jew, oh nevermind, he already named himself one.
He’s probably vying for some funding from some rich jew, so he has to spew.

He makes the dumbest point ever – and fools here repeated it. They killed the enemy they didn’t care which kind of jew it was.

HERE’S SOME NEWS FOR ALL THE DUMB DUMBS: NEVER BEFORE IN A WAR DID ANYONE STOP AND ASK WHAT IS YOUR POLITICAL PARTY OR RELIGIOUS SECT OR RACE…
                DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It’s amazing how completely stupid people have instantly become.

They ran directly into the human shields israel left unprotected along the border…. for many, many hours – human shields at the border is israel’s policy, we all saw it

            3. CNN would have been at Gazas gates when it was liberated asking the Palestinian prisoners if they could guarantee not to commit war crimes against their captors who’ve murdered them and starved them relentlessly at an extraordinary rate for decades all the while claiming pure innocence, the jews. Unfortunately, the gazan concentration camp has never been liberated.

There we straightened that oldman brain fart out.

        2. ” . . . such as cutting off water and electricity to millions of civilians, about half of them children.”

Yet again, the Left’s moral equivalency and appeal to pity.

When your terrorist government invades another country, you can expect to lose your utilities. Just as the Germans and Japanese did during WWII.

Here is the suicide you are demanding of Israel: Continue supplying water and electricity to the butchers who invaded you. Leave them with water and electricity, as Hamas continues killing your citizens. In other words, Israel: Slit your own throats.

  2. I swear, I’ve seen Rep. Ilhan Omar fly in with Hamas fighters on motorized paragliders.

    1. Hamas ——-s so courageous against oblivious, innocent civilians.

Did these dastardly ——-s have mothers?

  3. Interesting how Islamists use the American system against itself. In Michigan, Hamtramck, an entity within Detroit, was strictly Polish Roman Catholic until mugged by Muslims. Now the churches have been turned to mosques , the council to majority Muslim, one Roman Catholic even converting, perhaps not to be labeled a
dhimmi. Therefore, when a congressional district has a significant population of Muslims, it’s able to elect Muslim representatives who are more interested in promoting a religion whose principal work, the Koran, teaches its believers to hate non-Muslims in their hearts while maintaining an amiable exterior. Those Muslims who make it to elective office are truly Trojan horses. Do not be beguiled by their specious arguments lest you become a dhimmi yourself.

      1. That there are patriotic American Muslims and good Muslims is not in question. Unfortunately, many Islamists exist as well, hiding behind those of faith. We have seen them when faced with death and destruction. Students for Justice in Palestine is an example of an organization run by Islamists, filled with hate and desire to destroy all others.

Only fools like you want to promote the hate and killings of the Islamists.

      2. “There are many patriotic Muslims in the US.”

Aninny, can you say oxymoronic contradiction in terms?

That’s like saying Barack Hussein “Barry Soetoro” (statue in Jakarta) Obama, Indonesian by signed H.S. application, son of an anti-American, anti-Colonialist, activist extremist, jailed-by-the-British, foreign citizen, who wants to illicitly and unconstitutionally engage in “fundamentally transforming the United States of America,” is an American.

That’s precisely what China, Russia, North Korea, Iran et al. want to do – transform the U.S.

  4. Nothing said or written about her could be as complete as her being voted out of office. The likelihood of that can be assumed to be rather dim as her presence obviously reflects the mindset of her constituency. The same should be assumed for the rest of ‘The Squad’. Expect that there will thousands of others of that ilk when time eventually absorbs those millions who managed to be insinuated into the population either by hook or by crook. This should be a matter of concern for the entire nation. Having said that, expulsion by the House of Representatives, and lifelong prohibition against holding a Federal office of any kind would be proper. State and local jurisdictions can do with her what they will.

  5. I agree completely – let these tools roast themselves and then eat each other. But prior to Musk acquiring Twitter, that was almost literally an impossibility, and the perpetrators will not cease in attempting to regain their totalitarian control. The squad are like a factory made pinnacle of the absolute worst of their generation, there is no consciousness there, and we have to preserve our ability to counter their idiocy as though our lives depended on it, because in 2023, they just might. It would be beyond tragic if we lost the Western world to what more or less amounts to a collective, generational temper tantrum.

  6. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. Does anyone take this person seriously. There are far more salutary and cogent commentators on Palestinian points of view and plight.
Voting is a popularity contest. Hitler was elected because of the largest vote total (a minority), so was Salvador Allende Gossens (also a minority president in vote total) but both nearly destroyed their nations.
Her vote total simply means that her confessional district needs to be gerrymandered.
Congressional districts that are drawn to be safe for one or the other party are characteristically more likely to generate the most radical or reactionary representatives. Adam Clayton Powell was a beneficiary of this same mentality, as well as certain republicans also.

    1. “Can a Donor Revolt Save American Universities?”

Welcomed, and long overdue. For decades, universities have been cesspools of anti-American ideas.

      1. Sam,
I am enjoying all those students who are oh, so courageous for their virtue signaling suddenly running for the door as their future just might of gone down the toilet in job perspectives.
Universities suddenly can no longer depend on alumi donations.
When the buck stops, people take notice.

  7. Where, now, is the “say their names” crowd?

Adi Vital-Kaploun was shot to death by Hamas/Iran, in front of her two young sons.

Shai Regev was at a music festival. Hamas/Iran kidnapped her. Then later murdered her.

Eitan Kapister was murdered by Hamas/Iran, along with the rest of his family. He was celebrating his 5th birthday.

  8. Conservatives, Whites, White Supremacists, MAGA, Trump followers, Catholics, Asians, Heterosexuals, Cisgendered, Women, privileged, and others all have been labeled as threats to America by Democrats. Now comes Democrats protecting terrorists with a long, documented history of hate and physical violence, with no intentions of reforming themselves.

Democrats have been lecturing Americans for decades about who to defend and who to terrorize. What to do when Democrats defend those who terrorize?

    1. Palestinians showed the world in 1972 that they are terrorists. Nothing has changed since then.

      1. Shameful that you blame Palestinians who weren’t even alive at the time for the acts of terrorists.

You claim to be Catholic, but regularly fail to take Christ’s teachings seriously.

    2. Estovir,
They think a child chewing a Pop-Tart into the vague shape of a gun is a threat to America.
      Cannot take these clowns seriously.

  9. The congressional Genocide Squad (all D’s):

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Greg Casar, and Summer Lee.

When you support “Palestinian rights,” when you peddle the fiction that “Palestinians” are the oppressed and Israel the oppressors — you support the ideology of genocide, and the barbarian actions of Iran/Hamas to make that ideology a reality.

    1. Everyone has rights. It’s rather disgusting that you can’t admit the rights of some.

Hamas are terrorists. Hamas =/= Palestinians. Both Israelis and Palestinians have rights. Both Israelis and Palestinians must resolve the conflict without resort to war crimes.

      1. I have no idea how someone can babble something like this out : ” When you support “Palestinian rights,” when you peddle the fiction that “Palestinians” are the oppressed and Israel the oppressors ”

What kind of liar can spew something like that ? The very idea that Israel doesn’t hold the total hand over the gaza strip is ridiculous !

It’s not just that he denied rights to all the people of the gaza strip (that should tell us something about who also wants to wipe out whom), he blabbered about oppression and got it 100% backwards. I mean it’s amazing someone can be that deluded.

I love that too when they offer the argument there are no palestinians …it’s a fiction … as if the designation is invalid since we need some name to call the group and oh there was no official state …. LMAO
Well recognize it then israel … do the duty ! Then you won’t be whining anymore that humans need a word for the concept of that group of people. Worse yet there was no israel until recently and the war started as it formed in ’48 – that was rather astounding.

Watch out for both sides there’s some real whack jobbery goin on

  10. Respectfully, Professor, I disagree that free speech should protect the pictures posted by AOC. Given the level of antisemitism, especially (ironically) in New York, the fact that thousands of people took to the streets to condemn Israel and support terrorism (whether intentionally or through sheer ignorance), and the fact that any reasonable person knows that the pictures would cause an emotional and possibly extreme reaction in those who saw them, there seems no difference between this and yelling “fire” in a crowded theater. If anything, AOC’s despicable act probably is even more dangerous. For far too long we have stood back while progressives support those who pillage and burn our cities; for far too long we have allowed Soros and his minions to determine who becomes our district attorneys and judges; and, for far too long we have tolerated liberal politicians who can do whatever they wish without fear of reprisal either from Republicans or their own voters. Now, we are paying the price.

    1. Like you I am disappointed in our host. However, I am not a trained legal scholar like you, so please educate me. IIRC that some Constitutionally established rights can be revoked, e.g. right to vote (felonies), right to guns (failing background checks), etc. So it follows, rights require responsible behaviors. What am I missing?

      1. “rights require responsible behaviors”

No they don’t. Rights are inalienable and can not be taken away. 2+2=4 regardless if you force me to say it equals 3.

      2. Estovir– I do not consider myself a Constitutional scholar but as I understand things, the First Amendment is not revoked, it simply does not come into play, i.e. there is no First Amendment right to falsely yell fire in a crowded theater because it creates an imminent threat of physical harm to the patrons. The First Amendment also does not come into play with defamatory statements if they are made negligently or for public figures, with malice. You are correct, however, that certain Constitutional rights can be “revoked” in the sense that convicted felons can lose their right to vote or own guns. Focusing on the Second Amendment as an example, as you know it is composed of two parts: the “prefatory” “well regulated militia” language and the “operative” clause “shall not be infringed” by Congress. For years the prefatory clause was used to interpret the operative clause meaning that unless the restriction limited the ability to maintain a militia, it was allowed. Then in District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court reversed the emphasis and held that the operative clause controlled so that a blanket restriction on the right to own weapons was prohibited. Even so, the Court recognized that limitations on certain people owning weapons was allowed, such as felons, mentally ill, etc. I suspect all of this is as clear as mud.

        1. Thanks for replying. I look at these things through a philosophical lens, that is, the application of theory to real life application. If real life scenarios contradict theory, then the theory collapses.

          Legal Theory:
SCOTUS showed in Heller that rights can not be selectively edited, nuanced or interpreted “in context”. The 2A either holds true in its entirety or it does not. SCOTUS saw it as an all or nothing principle.

          Real life application:
You have the right to vote unless if you are a felon, you have the right to possess a gun unless if you are mentally ill or a felon, or on the property of a state university, airport, Federal bldg, etc. So real life applications provide an asterisk to these constitutional rights. Moreover, we all agree food, water, clothing and shelter are “rights”. Yet, these are at times deprived as punishment say in prison or in tools for negotiations when terrorist groups hold hostages. When homeowners or residents fail to pay their mortgage or rent, they are evicted. There is ample precedent that shows behaviors can result in people being deprived of their rights, and we enforce these conditions

By giving the 1A exceptional treatment, i.e. it always prevails, it becomes a legalist, fundamentalist interpretation. It should be viewed as other rights, subject to conditions. Waging jihad against a group of people should not be a right

          my 2 cents

          1. “Moreover, we all agree food, water, clothing and shelter are “rights”.”

Ne we don’t. None of those are rights. You have the right to pursue them but you are not guaranteed them or have a right to them.

        2. The statement by Justice Holms “You can’t yell fire in a crowded theater,” was dictum in the Schenck case. In 1969, the Supreme Court’s decision in Brandenburg v. Ohio effectively overturned Schenck and any authority the case still carried. There, the Court held that inflammatory speech–and even speech advocating violence by members of the Ku Klux Klan–is protected under the First Amendment, unless the speech “is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action”

Even Justice Holmes may realized the gravity of his opinions in Schneck and its companion cases. Later in the same term, Holmes suddenly dissented in a similar case, Abrams vs. United States, which sent Russian immigrants to jail under the Espionage Act. It would become the first in a long string of dissents Holmes and fellow Justice Louis Brandeis would write in defense of free speech that collectively laid the groundwork for Court decisions in the 1960s and 1970s that shaped the First Amendment.

Holmes wrote in Abrams that the marketplace of ideas offered the best solution for tamping down offensive speech: “The ultimate good desired is better reached by free trade in ideas — that the best test of truth is the power of the thought to get itself accepted in the competition of the market, and that truth is the only ground upon which their wishes safely can be carried out.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, et al are disgusting human beings, but I believe the more they speak the more they convince others of that fact.

          1. Your comment helps me:

under the First Amendment, unless the speech “is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action”

so the 1A is not an unrestrained right and it does have conditions based on behaviors, as I argued. It follows that individuals in America (e.g. university students groups, faculty) who parrot the jihad of Palestinians are not protected under 1A. They are “inciting or producing imminent lawless action”, but since Harvard, et al refuse to admonish these groups, they get away with it. Once again, we are witnessing a dictatorship of relativism as Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger articulated on the day before he was elected Pope Benedict XVI:

Today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be “tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine”, seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one’s own ego and desires.

  11. My question{ are there any photos from the wedding of Rep. Omar and her brother?

  12. Who voted these people into office, who voted that numb nuts into the White House, who voted these Democrats into office, WHO WHO WHO
and who gives a shit when your 80 years old…..

  13. It is possible that we can, as Americans, unite behind our common article of faith in free speech

There are those that refuse to condemn the killing and decapitation of infants, or the burning alive, enitire families in their homes.

Off course One democrat cant do harm, but the 207,800 voters (75.1% of voters) that put her in office is the true threat to democracy.

  14. The Democrat Party has some serious issues with truthfulness, they also want positions that align with their own expressed, censoring other views. This is best exemplified on college campuses. Omar knew exactly what she was doing. The party has fully embraced the totalitarian mo of “ the end justifies the means”.

  15. you have to ask yourself….if Democrats have run cities for 60 years…and those cities are as BAD or WORSE than they have ever been….why do people vote Democrat?
if debt is rising faster than wages…where will this lead America?
    Federal Deficit this year
    $30,000 per Child
    $6,500 per American
    $17,000 per Household!

    Federal Debt
    $550,000 Child
    $121,000 American
    $300,000 Household

    1. “In reality, it was a picture of victims of a 2013 sarin gas attack in Ghouta, Syria. ”

Those were pretty well declared as false-flags that never happened !

Did you ever see a Syrian citizen on on MSM claim that is what happend ?

      I sure didn’t

      1. You have never provided your verifiable government identification, social security card number, banking information, and so forth, which is to say you do not exist. We have never seen nor heard a US citizen verify your existence, so it follows: tautologies by trolls are terrible tantrums of two-year olds

      2. Those were pretty well declared as false-flags that never happened

Is that you Bump Phillips? Don’t you have deadline to turn in a column?

      3. You seem to have missed the point; the photo is from 2013, regardless of whether it was a false-flag photo.

        1. Most everyone here missed the real point, at that time 614 gaza children had been newly slaughtered by Israel.

I accept JT’s stance slapping the censors hard given the good chance to do so, however, I know a thousand others who would scream taking advantage of children’s corpses before the blood has dried is a low down tactic.

This is JT’s ” There are obviously children who have been and will be killed in Gaza. ”

Well, this is probably unacceptable to all who aren’t brainwashed. On the one hand we demand tears and moral support and denouncements, but on the other hand we say yeah obviously they were killed and more are coming.

So there isn’t a chance I can call that acceptable. I suspect it infuriates those in opposition.

I noticed the same thing in the war in Ukraine – a lot of opposition is decrying the slaughter to the last Ukranian used and bragged about by Biden administration and foreign leaders in NATO, but even those in opposition never mention the dead russians. Yeah I ripped on em hard about – with their little virtue signaling I agree with, but at some point, the point of humanity and modern information at everyone’s fingertips, someone should agree the deaths and the murders on both sides are wrong.

  16. fascists democrats….don’t care about facts, freedom, people’s lives, the Rule of Law or America….they want POWER and America!
    RINO GOP leaders help them!
Democrats are BACKED by people who want to destroy the west…Soros, China, etc

  17. How about voters voting her out of office. I like that form of censorship. Has she admitted to posting those photos or was it her staffers?
