In a surprising filing, Fulton County’s district attorney Fani Willis has accused the estranged wife of her alleged lover of conspiring to undermine the Trump prosecution by seeking her deposition in the messy divorce case of Nathan Wade. Willis, again, does not deny having an affair with Wade, who she appointed lead prosecutor in the case. Instead, she accuses Joycelyn Wade of an affair that broke up the marriage and suggests that she is coordinating with Trump forces to interfere with the prosecution.
Willis is accused of major ethical violations in appointing her alleged lover to the position as she went on lavish vacations with him. She previously denounced those raising obvious ethical concerns as being racist due to the fact that both Willis and Wade are black. She did not, however, deny the intimate relationship or the allegation that Wade paid for her vacation expenses.
At issue in the filing is the demand for a pretrial deposition in the divorce case of Nathan and Joycelyn Wade on January 23. Willis’ counsel leveled a full attack on the motivations and associations of Joycelyn Wade. She accused Joycelyn Wade of having an adulterous relationship with a longtime friend of Nathan Wade’s.
Willis’ counsel Cinque Axam then added that Joycelyn Wade “has conspired with interested parties in the criminal election interference case to use the civil discovery process to annoy, embarrass and oppress District Attorney Willis.”
The filing noted that the allegations against Willis were used by Trump codefendant Mike Roman to seek judicial review and remedy for the alleged conflict of interest. A hearing has now been set by the court for Feb. 28th.
Willis bases her conspiracy theory on the fact that, on January 8, Roman’s filing was made public and on the same day, she was served a subpoena and there was a move to unseal the Wades’ divorce case.
That certainly makes this all a bit different from the usual “other woman” element in the divorce case. However, it is not a smart move. The level of animus and vexatious language in the filing only magnifies the concern over the Willis-Wade relationship. By attacking the estranged wife of her alleged lover, Willis only increases concerns over the professional separation between Willis and Wade in making decisions in the case.
Accusing the estranged wife of your alleged lover of being a political conspirator is about as compelling as accusing people raising ethical concerns of being virulent racists.
For example, if Wade were to exceed his authority or act unprofessionally in the case, Willis would be forced to take action against not only an alleged lover but someone she has had to defend as the ideal choice for the position. Their personal relationship would presumably weigh in the balance in any supervisory review or decision.
Likewise, if Willis was taken on vacations by Wade and their relationship is continuing, the termination of his contract could have an economic impact on Willis.
In the end, the accusatory motion was a mistake in my view. Willis could have objected to the necessity of the deposition on factual and legal grounds (as she does) without escalating the rhetoric and recriminations.

Who is Merchant?
he is one of the many many people in the RICO trial along with Trump. This came out inspite of Trump
She, as many are, is entitled, don’t you know, and thus beyond reproach. It is not for mere plebes to criticize such as she so let’s quiet down out there!
You can smell the desperation in the air. The prog/left have realized that people are beginning to see the truth of it all and are pushing back. Keep it up.
Thank you Elon Musk
Yes, sunshine is the best disinfectant.
Under Georgia law, O.C.G.A. 16-6-19 (2010), 16-6-19. Adultery, “A married person commits the offense of adultery when he voluntarily has sexual intercourse with a person other than his spouse and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished as for a misdemeanor.” Although rarely prosecuted as a crime, it remains as such on the books. Willis has admitted to it in her rebuttals. This should end the case with a dismissal. The Fulton County case is an excellent example of why the Supreme Court needs to affirm the doctrine of “presidential immunity.” Under the Constitution, presidents are not fully immune from criminal prosecution, provided they are impeached and convicted for it first. In this case, Trump was not impeached and convicted for the Georgia “crimes.” Without immunity while in office, presidents would always be easy prey for radical local prosecutors looking to score points with their constituents. Thank you, Georgia and Fanni Willis, for helping DJT in this important Supreme Court case. Now, go away and take your silly case with you!
What is this going to lead to, from a practical standpoint?
Perhaps Willis or Wade, or both, will be removed from the case. Will this lead to the case being dropped? Probably not. Someone else will just take it over and carry on.
Potentially, the most significant matter that has come to light so far is that Wade met twice with White House staff on this matter (his billing records show this). Republicans should now subpoena all records relating to these meetings and get Wade’s and Willis’ texts and emails about them. WH involvement in this prosecution would have political implications.
Daniel,
Well said.
Thank you for your insight and analysis.
@Daniel…
Err yes and no.
Turley wrote another blog page on this.
On the one hand… the case could go on.
On the other… for that to happen, you need a DA willing to step forward and bring it.
This was a political case from the start and more and more evidence of questionable votes are popping up.
That only helps the defense.
So I’d say it will die a lingering death.

It is becoming very clear, this woman is mentally unstable. Her paranoia has become blatantly obvious. When will a Judge say enough????
#DEI This is what you get with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
No big deal. I am sure there is another affirmative action lawyer who can take her place.
FANY – YUP Played the race card, right of the gate, then blame her lover’s wife, the other women, then blame TRUMP. Right of the Left Wing Radical DEM, I should say just the DEM, play book, then let the media run with it. But, FANY, why did you hire your boyfriend? How were the luxury cruises? or 5 star dining? or other trips? Yup you and your boyfriend were doing research? Nice try, if the Judge is at all honest, a DEM judge?, he should throw you off the case along with your boyfriend? As well he should dismiss the case? too late to start over on a corrupt case?
“Fani Willis has accused the estranged wife . . .” “[A]n affair with Wade, who she appointed lead prosecutor in the case.” “[S]he went on lavish vacations with him . . . [aka: the misappropriation of public funds]: She denounced detractors “as being racist . . .” Others “oppress” her, so she should be allowed to get away with anything.
She is interfering in an election by attempting to criminalize the leading opposition candidate. She and her lover-prosecutor conspired with the Biden administration to throw Trump in jail.
“Here, no more false appearances, no possible plastering, filth takes off its shirt, absolute nakedness, rout of illusions and mirages, nothing more but what is, wearing the sinister face of what is ending.” (Victor Hugo describing the sewers of Paris)
Sounds like a cat fight to me! It is going to get lots worse!
“Fani Willis Accuses Wife of Alleged Lover of Being an Adulterer and Political Conspirator.”
Along with playing the race card and stealing from the people to support her lifestyle, with someone else’s husband, Fannie Willis gets her jollies off by prosecuting those who did nothing wrong.
Put Fannie Willis where she belongs – on the street next to the boozer.
I am certain there are Republican prosecutors who are as vindictive, stupid and corrupt as the clown car that is attacking Trump, and I am looking forward to the DNC propaganda machine that inhabits this space to point them out to us. Let’s hear it!
Hey Fani, stop digging. By the way the Race Card is old and stale.
Having grown up in Atlanta thru the 1950’s, 1960’s and early 1970’s it is refreshing that the same old politics has continued. People will be people whether it is a majority white city or majority black city, or probably any other ethnic or racial makeup city. Politicians and even normal people continue to make stupid decisions. I can understand the lure of someone to look outside their marriage and the desire to look for greener pastures, so to speak, but it’s still wrong whether you are black, white or whatever. And especially when you are a public figure and making appointments in high profile cases where bias and judgment is so important. It certainly takes a great deal of bravado for Fani Willis to complain that she is only being accused because she is black. That sort of ignores the whole history or sordid affairs down through the ages affecting all sorts of people. Even the Bible points this out.
It’s always risky to get into an affair, but it’s doubly risky and downright insane to do this when you hold public office. As I said same old Atlanta except the traffic is so much worse. And I have not even lived there since 1974 but still visit often.
The recent attacks against Willis are racist? Isn’t Willis the one that chose to have the alleged affair with a black man? Should we attack the white prosecutors that are not having an affair with Willis and have actual RICO experience? Isn’t Willis the racist one because she paid qualified white attorney’s less than she an unqualified black attorney after asserting she paid them each the same? It seems Willis is testing the quality of her DEI training program!
Turley is right.
But then again, if she was a good lawyer, she wouldn’t have taken this case.
She first plays the race card in a Black Church.
Doesn’t work because everyone knows that she’s the ‘other women’.
So she falls back to blame the wife as her excuse.
That’s not going to end well either.

Willis is following the Claudine Gay Plan: cheat, then when caught cheating claim victim status.
“suggests that she is coordinating with Trump forces to interfere with the prosecution”. Obliviously it is Trump’s fault that Willis slept with another woman’s husband and than hired him regardless of his lack of qualifications handling RICO cases. I think she should add additional charges against Trump.

@EconIsEasy…
It is all Trump’s fault.
She hires her friend to help out on the case. Gives him a really sweetheart of a deal because after all, he is her friend.
They work long days/nights… really stressed out about the case.
They need to travel from ATL to DC for work…
Then to save money they start to share a hotel room.
They cope by drinking…
You know how it goes.
After all, if it wasnt for Trump, she never would have hired her friend….
Now the only question… at what point did they start listening to Barry White and decided to cut expenses and share a room?
-G
Very stressful. After all, he billed 24 hours in one day.

None of this helps an admittedly weak case. Still. it’s refreshing (?) to see that DC does not have a monopoly on behaviors of this sort and that local corruption still exists
Common ploy among Dem-Marxists in particular-ATTACK the attacker.
“How DARE you attack me for (actual) corruption just because I am prosecuting you on bogus charges, you RACIST??!!!???!!!!!”
If the consequences weren’t so serious, it would be laughable.
