The debate last night was chilling for many citizens as President Joe Biden clearly struggled to stay focused and responsive. It appeared to put on display what Special Counsel Robert Hur saw in his interview before concluding that Biden’s loss of mental capacity would make a prosecution difficult. What may be equally troubling for Democrats and the media is a poll that came out just before the debate that shows more swing-state voters see former President Donald Trump rather than President Joe Biden as protecting democracy.
According to a new poll from the Washington Post and the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, if “democracy is on the ballot,” the majority of the public believes that threat comes from elsewhere, including possibly Biden himself.
Over half of the respondents told the Washington Post that threats to democracy are extremely important to their vote for president. However, 44% said they think Trump would do a better job at handling those threats. Only 33% of respondents said they believe Biden would be better for democracy.
Many citizens are alarmed by prosecutions like the one in Manhattan where the legal system seems to have been weaponized against political opponents.
The poll not only shows the diminishing faith in the President but also in the press. The media has been unrelenting in pushing the narrative that this election is a choice between democracy and tyranny. The public is clearly tuning out the media message. This is only the latest example of that widening gap. Indeed, the whole “Let’s Go Brandon” chant is as much a criticism of the media as it is President Biden.
I have previously written that democracy is not on the ballot but free speech is. The Biden Administration has chilling analogies to the Adams Administration in the weaponization of the legal system and the crackdown on free speech. What should most concern Biden is the possibility of another aspect of history repeating itself: a defeat like the one in 1800.

The anti-free speech movement has flourished largely in the echo chambers of academia and the media. It is time for the public to render its judgment. Free speech is again on the ballot. It is time for the public to decide.

They already have enough on their plate regarding the Convention itself. The Party’s history of their Conventions being held in Chicago was enough to give me pause, wondering why on earth would they have the convention there? I am old enough (as are many who write here) to remember the riots in 1968. It wasn’t pretty. Already groups are coming to Chicago to protest. I stopped reading there, as whatever else you wrote is irrelevant to the point. There were two people debating, not four. The opponent in the debate is responsible for exposing alleged factual inaccuracies and not the moderators. Regardless, there was nothing these moderators could have done to save Biden from himself.

It appears that Democratic delegates are bound by party by-laws to vote for the candidate they declared for in the primaries. It further appears that Biden has more than 95% of delegates selected in the primaries. Unless Biden voluntarily or involuntarily steps aside, he will be the nominee at the convention on the first ballot. OR – will Democrats seek to change their by-laws at this late date, fter the primaries have been held? If they attempt to do so, would their existing by-laws be enforced against them by a court? Might some state election officials refuse to put an “illegally” selected candiate on their ballots? A legal crisis may be brewing.
Their current crisis is the result of their decision, engineered by Barack Obama, to stop the primary process in 2020 and annoint Joe Biden as the nominee. If they had allowed the primary process to work itself out, they may have ended up with a young, healthy, open-minded, appealing, and competent candidate like Tulsi Gabbard or Andrew Yang to lead their party against Trump. Even if that candidate lost in 2020, she/he could have been waiting in the wings for a better shot at the presidency in 2024.

Edward – as to your question, would their existing by-laws be enforced against them by a court?, I think it’s a good question, and it may be a close one, but I believe that courts in the end would not enforce them. In my experience, unless a change to the rule clearly violates a state statute in some way, courts are very reluctant to get involved in the internal workings of a political party, which they view as the party’s business, not the law’s business.

From my experience interacting with the government, they rule by committee. No one makes the decision. No one makes the hard call. No one is responsible. That is why the Biden admin has been such a disaster.
Who will they replace Biden with is the number one question. And then, how will they spin the obvious all us normal people have been seeing since Biden was propped up to run in the first place back in 2020, they voted for a dementia patient for president.
This script is playing out exactly as planned. I’ve been telling my wife for over a year, Biden will not be running in the end and Newsome will be our new President. We just have to except this.

I dunno. So far, the Biden campaign is saying he is not dropping out. I think there are people in the Biden admin that are so desperate, so power mad, they just might keep Biden in. They are the people who scare me. They would be willing to do something really, really dumb to keep in power, or would rather destroy it all.
They need to choose their 2028 candidate to run against Trump. They have to set aside box checking because Michelle Obama is not interested and has no reason to jostle her happy little life with former Mr. President Identity Politics.

So what’s the answer here? Joe is not only not a viable candidate for 2024, he is incapable of running the country today and should not have the nuclear code. He undoubtedly has not been running the country, and the folks who are were not elected to do it. They are also doing a horrendous job at pretty much everything.
The 25th amendment should come into play. How long would that take? And Harris doesn’t look up to the job, so how long would it take to do the same to her?
Or can a citizen of Delaware file for a state-appointed guardianship of Joe since he’s the subject of elder abuse by his wife?
The country can’t just run itself until next January.

I was reminded of one truth he uttered.
He at one point said I don’t understand what Biden just said. True statement. I didn’t understand what he said either.

Hard to settle this one. The person that said trump said that is reliable and stands by his words. Trump says it is a lie, but trump lies so much he is mostly likely lying about his lying.
Trump: “People are coming in and killing our citizens at a level like we’ve never seen before.”

You lie and we laugh at you because you literally confirm the biases people have for reality and against the fantasy world of dem policy and dem leadership – neither are the same, except both lead to bad things for the nation.

Reminds me of when we were kids, we would sell tart (pie) cherries in front of our house for fun $$$ to spend at-will on our yearly vacation. Our pockets bulging with quarters, we would tell our mom we were making “millions.”
Did that make us “liars” or enthusiastic, optimistic exaggerators?
When we won a baseball game by merely a lucky single run, we would say we “beat” the other team to the ground in humiliation.
When we received good grades on a report card, we would tell our parents we were the best in the class (of course we had no idea what the other kids received). This was simply our perception based on our personal evaluation of other students during classes. Were we telling lies?
Trump is no kid.
Is his predilection for exaggeration based on “lies” or mere political pufferies?
