Crash Landing: The Democratic Spin on Trump Causing Plane Accidents Collides with Reality

For weeks, politicians and pundits have engaged in a ghoulish effort to blame every plane accident on the Trump Administration, even accidents that occurred within the first weeks of the Trump Administration. Hillary Clinton led the effort by bizarrely suggesting that the collision of the airliner and the helicopter over the Potomac was due to the changes in Trump’s policies. The spin showed utter contempt for the intelligence of the public since there was no evidence that the Trump Administration policies had any impact on the accidents.

Nevertheless, the press and pundits fueled the false narrative by citing various accidents in January. That narrative then collapsed after CNN and other media outlets acknowledged that there were actually fewer accidents in January than average and that the Biden Administration saw more accidents during the same period.

The attempt to use these tragedies for raw political advantage is appalling. However, it also shows the complete disregard for the intelligence of voters in suggesting the nexus between the change of Administration and airplane accidents shortly after the inauguration.

It does not matter that Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy was not confirmed until January 28, 2025, less than 24 hours before the accident over the Potomac.

Nevertheless, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and others immediately weaponized that and later tragedies.

Schumer was joined by media figures like former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan, who later was compelled to delete a tweet on Sunday, Feb. 16 in which he wrote “Make American Plane Crash Again.” Like others, Hasan was connecting a small plane crash in Georgia to the start of the Trump Administration.

Then there was Rep. Eric Swalwell. We have previously discussed the bottomless pit of Swalwellian logic, such as shutting down the government to prevent government shutdowns.

The logic tree was felled again by Swalwell in blaming the Trump Administration for the crash in Georgia: “Trump is President. President Trump is in charge of air safety. All crashes are Trump’s fault.”

The only problem, as pointed out by CNN, is that air travel overall was better in January than prior such periods:

“In fact, if the preliminary numbers hold, January 2025 will surpass the previous record for the lowest number of total accidents, with eight fewer than the prior record low of 70 from January 2012.”

Does that mean that all aircraft safety like aircraft accidents are attributed to Trump? Of course not. Not only have no changes been made that have impacted the air traffic controllers in these cases, but none of the proposals would reduce those controllers.

The most bizarre was the effort to blame Trump for an accident where a plane flipped over in Canada.

On NBC, Tom Costello observed “as you know there has been talk about maybe staff cuts at the FAA as a part of President Trump’s effort to trim down the federal workforce.”

This is becoming a policy version of Six Degrees from Kevin Bacon. Every airport accident can be traced within six degrees of DOGE or Duffy.

It is very easy. Just take any airline mishap anywhere in the world and then trace it back to the United States and Sean Duffy. For example, there was also a water main break at the airport at Fort McMurray International Airport in Alberta. Ready? Go…

If you are struggling, just watch Schumer who is the most nimble at this game.

“I’m thankful that everyone in the flight incident in Toronto that took off from Minneapolis is safe, but we keep seeing these incidents day after day. Meanwhile, Trump’s doing massive layoffs at the FAA – including safety specialists – and making our skies less and less safe…Democrats are fighting to protect the flying public…To those asking whether it matters that the plane’s destination was in Canada: The flight took off from Minneapolis. The FAA was still responsible for inspecting the aviation equipment, and Trump just let go of FAA safety specialists.”

Done. Six degrees to Duffy.

  1. Jonathan: Talk about a “crash landing”. Have you seen the latest polls? One month in and DJT claims his approval rating is at 70%. He doesn’t cite the poll. That’s because it doesn’t exist! After a little digging here are the real poll numbers.

Gallop did a poll right after inauguration. It showed DJT was underwater by -1%, 47% approval to 48% disapproval. That’s unprecedented in presidential polling. Now a month in DJT’s poll ratings are even worse. Now he is underwater by -6%, 45% approval to 51% disapproval. According Gallop that has done presidential polling for 70 years: “Trump’s job approval raring is 15 points below the historical average of all other elected presidents in mid-February since 1953”. Other polls show the same results: CNN, -5%; Pew Research Center, -4%; Reuters, -4%; WP/Ipsos, -8%.

In every metric, except for immigration, voters disapprove of DJT’s policies–from foreign policy, trade, the federal workforce, the Russian/Ukraine war, the Israel/Hamas conflict and the economy. Take DJT’s proposal to take over Gaza, 62% disapprove. On tariffs 51% to 40% think this will hurt the economy. And by an even wider margin 83% disapprove of DJT’s pardons for the Jan. 6 insurrectionists.

And how are Elon Musk’s poll numbers? He gets a 50% to 38% disapproval rating. A WP/Ipsos poll shows Musk with a 63% to 34% disapproval rating.

And these polls come BEFORE DJT’s calls for slashing spending for Medicaid, Medicare and SS. During the campaign DJT pledged to his supporters he would not cut these essential programs. Now they are the chopping block. This will come as a shock to seniors who paid into SS their entire working lives and thought their money was safe because it was in a trust fund. Nothing is safe now with the DJT/Musk slash and burn policies!

    1. Wrong.
Rasmussen Reports 53% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of ending government DEI programs.
Other polls show Trumps approval rating at 54%.

      1. Upstate: As I have pointed out numerous times, Rasmussen polls pro-Trump voters to come up with pro -MAGA numbers–it has NO crediblity. What “other polls”? Dennis is correct–Trump is consistently underwater and getting worse as multiple polls by multiple valid polling outfits consistently show. Voters are taking to the streets in protest. Town halls held by members of Congress are full to overflowing with dissatisfied Americans demanding that something be done. So, you MAGAs have to turn to MAGA media and Jonathan Turley for your daily affirmation.

        1. “So, you MAGAs have to turn to MAGA media and Jonathan Turley for your daily affirmation.”
          Apparently, so do you.

        2. Gigi: Notice I cited 5 different independent polls on a variety of DJT’s policies. UpstateFarmer only cites 1 Rasmussen poll on the one issue of DEI programs and, as you point out, Rasmussen polls ask only likely DJT supporters. A January YouGov poll shows 48% of respondents have a somewhat or very favorable view of DEI programs. You can bet that if the MAGA crowd on this blog had more favorable DJT polls they would be citing them chapter and verse!

    2. Hey Dennis, I’m looking for a part-time gig to supplement my retirement income. Your’s looks pretty good – other than the sounding like a dumbass part – but since it’s anonymous, what the hell? – just write a few paragraphs of horseshit everyday from the comfort of your parents basement.

  2. Trump is doing nearly everything he promised on the campaign trail and is succeeding. His policies are popular with the majority of voters like securing the border, cuts to fraud, waste and abuse in the government. His success is so resounding the Democrats are in a absolute panic. They are absolutely desperate, they are resorting to anything they can to try to tie the Trump admin to anything bad. If the milk went bad in the fridge or there was mold on their bread, they would attempt to link it to Trump. All it is, is more of their attempts to gaslight the American people. As the good professor points out, we are far more intelligent to see through them. Well, most of us are. As is evident by our various leftist friends, they will believe whatever Democrats and MSM tells them. Shows their lack of critical thinking, logic and common sense.

      1. it is his way of getting noticed as an Anonymous and hence differentiating himself.
it is cowardly and just provides a metric in who to ignore: all Anonymous, extraneuous characters like #

        1. “getting noticed as an Anonymous and hence differentiating himself.”

Are you assuming that #74 is truly a different person than some (most?) of the other Anonymi? Or is that yet one more tactic to sow confusion here? I haven’t made a serious study, but the style of #74 seems *very* similar to that of some of the other Kali Klone Klowns who frequent this space.

      2. #74. 😂 it’s a signature. Someone objected to the asterisk.

        Yours truly,
        #74

No, I won’t say. I’m weary of signing in. Weary of the password etc. Don’t read it.

  3. thanks to the internet and social media we are able to quickly respond to these nonsensical claims put forth by the Democrats and their minions. Rep Garcia recently complained that DOJ was coming after him because he made a statement. He claimed his 1st amendment free speech right had been violated. He didn’t share the DOJ letter on his X account not until others posted it in his comments. today he finally posted it, and commenters took him to the woodshed.
same is being done to a host of other Democrats when they post inane, inaccurate statements. They are losing the battle

    1. Dems (and to be honest, most of the fossil 60+’s in government) still think the world is run like in the 60’s, when no layman had access to speak their minds and do their own research with such speed as we have now. They are unable to adapt because the adage still stands: Can’t teach an old dog…

  4. “The attempt to use these tragedies for raw political advantage is appalling. However, it also shows the complete disregard for the intelligence of voters…”
Sounds to me like most politician’s modus operandi.
Considering the number of people who continue to vote for the same old tired, lying, criminal politicians, I’d say the vermin known as elected officials have sound reason for ‘disregarding the intelligence of voters’.

  5. I see that anonymous is trolling the comments again. I know you are in favor of free speech Professor but is there nothing you can do about this individual?

    1. Jonathan has a Publisher, however he could Post his Blog Essays with;
      Patreon: patreon.com/
      Substack: support.substack.com/hc/en-us
      Medium: help.medium.com/hc/en-us

A ‘subscription based’ system is the best option to eliminate the Troll problem.
FOR EXAMPLE: DavidStockman use a ‘subscription’ format.
As Low As $1 Per Day To Maintain Your Sanity
      davidstockmanscontracorner.com/subscriber-special-2/
      davidstockmanscontracorner.com/stockmans-corner-subscription-new-2/

Albeit Stockman’s Blog is a bit pricey for some, a subscription format for Jonathan’s Rag for $20/year would be palatable for most.
Jonathan has overhead cost as well to cover. a subscription subsidy can hedge the overhead and preserve the efforts of the project.

  6. The main point is that cutting FAA safety specialists, engineers who work on maintaining the radar systems, and ATC will hurt air safety at a time where it is a real concern. Musk and Trump don’t care about that.

    1. “The cuts do not affect us. I’ve been in close communication with the Secretary of Transportation. I understand that the, the cuts at this time are something that are raising questions, but the reality is there’s over 50,000 people that work at the FAA. And the cuts, I understand, were 300 people, and they were in non-critical safety functions.

The Trump administration has committed to investing deeply in terms of improving the overall technologies that are used in the air traffic control systems and modernizing the skies. They’ve committed to hiring additional controllers and investigators, and safety and investigators. So no, I’m not concerned with that at all.”

      — Ed Bastian, Delta CEO

  7. Yep, Donald is responsible for Flash Gordon crashing a spaceship & killing Ming the Meciless. It was all caught on dash cam video.
The injury lawyers want this case. No fee unless we win.

  8. I am a retired professional pilot with over 16,000 hours in the air and another 6,500 or so as a military flight crewmember. Be advised that “Air Traffic Control” does NOT control all air traffic in the United States. ATC’s role is to control traffic at certain airports and high-density areas. It’s original purpose was to control traffic on INSTRUMENT flight plans, and traffic operating above Flight Level 180 (18,000 feet) where all traffic is required to be on an instrument flight plan. The system was set up after two airliners collided over the Grand Canyon in the 1950s. Very few, if any, accidents are prevented by Air Traffic Control. Nearly all accidents are due to some kind of pilot error – mostly flight into terrain – and occasionally to mechanical problems. The DCA accident was due to the helicopter being in the wrong place and apparently 100 feet higher than they were supposed to have been. The North Philly accident is obviously due to loss of control while the Toronto accident occurred because the right main landing gear collapsed. As for Democrats, they are mostly idiots, educated though they may be, and think everyone else is as stupid as they are.

    1. semcgowanjr,
I read the other day, another pilot viewed the video footage and in his opinion, it was the result of a hard landing that collapsed the landing gear. There were also reports of possible wing root damage also lending evidence of a hard landing.
Thank you for your input and analysis.

    2. ” Be advised that “Air Traffic Control” does NOT control all air traffic in the United States. ATC’s role”

Very sensible post, and accurate, as far as it went. A nit pick, though – if you were going into the details, it might have been a good idea to identify the roles of both ATC and EnRoute systems and personnel. ATC is responsible for traffic within a 70 (iirc) mile radius of specific commercial airports; at the borders of those areas, ATC hands flight routing and tracking control over to EnRoute for the vast distances between airports. Obviously, decreased flight density makes EnRoute control a less intense proposition, but it remains an important function.

  9. Democrats are about Propaganda not reality!
It is time to DEFUND the FASCIST Democrat Party
End Federal Aid to cities, states, non-profits and schoools
    Ban Public Unions

  10. The lies are pathetically transparent, the malice is overflowing. Just watching the democrats speak makes me ashamed that I share the air with them. Does the democratic party have anyone who is still sane? What are the odds that they go full retard and run Mazie Hirono for president in 2028? 🤞

    1. Transparent? Seems your hate for other thinkers, believers has attained insane proportions. Take a deep breath. Its all kabuki theater. It has audience out there. Just watch the show.

    2. And what do you think of the lies musk and trump peddle?

musk, FSD is coming next year. We’ve heard that for 10 years and we have a lot of dead bodies to show for it.
trump promised to lower prices on day one, they are up.
DOGE says they have found $55 billion in savings. Look at the data, they have nothing. Just a lot of hot air.
Ukraine started the war. Really? I do recall February 2022 pretty well. Lines of tanks and trucks heading from Russia and Belarus into Ukraine. Not the other way around.

So trump is a paragon of truth?

    3. Mazie is naturalized, or was that your point?
Mazie’s mom, though a birthright citizen, didn’t stay in the US long enough to pass it on. Also true of Stanley Ann Obama, which was why Barack’s birthplace was so important.

      1. @michaelhexnumber

Actually, my point about Hirono is that she comes off as a complete moron, totally unsuited for any public trust. Therefore she is probably high on the list in the
        lunatic party

        1. “she comes off as a complete moron, totally unsuited for any public trust”

Unfortunately, that is quickly becoming redundant with Democratic Party affiliation. I am of the opinion that our system works best when there are two credible, legitimate major parties to debate options and alternatives (it takes more than just that, but that is the absolute minimum requirement). Sadly the Dims don’t qualify, and are moving further away from that milestone all the time. Regarding Hirono and Hawaii specifically, since Trump has proposed adding countries such as Greenland and Canada to the U. S., I propose balancing that by emancipating some States that clearly have populations with little sympathy for the principles upon which this nation was founded. Hawaii is #1 on my list.

    4. OldFish,
Correct, their lies are pathetically transparent . . . to all those who are bright enough, have critical thinking skills, logic and common sense. It is to the Democrats base whom they are trying to keep believing all their lies. They have to. They are losing people as their embrace of wokeism hurt them badly in this past election. So, in order to distract from all those bad DEI policies that Trump has cut, they have to shout and scream, “squirrel!” And then try to link that squirrel to Trump some how. Sad part is, as evident by some of our leftist trolls here, they blindly believe the false Democrat and MSM narrative. They are so consumed by their TDS even when reality presents itself, they will ignore it and just parrot their narrative over and over again.

  11. I see stripes in the Clintoons future, well overdue. I mean afterall No One is above the law!

  12. “The top Department of Justice prosecutor in Washington D.C. is now sending letters to elected officials who criticize President Donald Trump and his administration that include ominous ultimatums.

That’s according to Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), who posted the full text of a letter he received from Edward Martin — the acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Martin’s letter is just one of several he sent to Democrats who publicly criticized both Trump and centibillionaire Elon Musk. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also received letters from Martin, with each one including a deadline to respond.”

Uhhh, yea, no problem with our new DOJ targeting those that criticize the king.

Stop drinking the koolaid, this will not end well. If you learned any history at all, do you know Germany looked like in 1945?

    1. Turley be like, “Nothing to see here,” as he looks for his next free speech topic.

    2. From a unseen letters to German 1945. Hell of a leap. Koolaid you say, better lay off it.

      1. Are you implying it is ok for the DOJ to send threatening letters to elected representatives when they criticize trump or musk?

        1. If a Democrat was involved it was because of pedophilia. Whats your next stupid comment?

            1. You are aware Trump raped underage girls who were provided by Epstein?

You DO know nobody believes those lies from the groomers and pedophiles who supported President-Daddy Daughter Inappropriate Incest showers and Bolshevik Barack, who had the known serial rapist and pedophile Harvey Weinstein on his White House Open Door Guest Policy for eight years?

We DO know that a billionaire offered a TEN MILLION DOLLAR REWARD to ANYBODY who could produce any supportable evidence of any crime, or even proof of draft dodging, that would result in bringing down Trump. That offer was open every day of his candidacy, and throughout his first term after that.

Not a single “raped underage girl”, their lawyers, a Democrat lawyer like Marc Elias, OR YOU ever cashed in on that reward by providing even one victim and the evidence.

Apparently, the very first time in history that communists, Anonymous or not, voluntarily refused to take free money that they don’t even have to work for to earn.

    3. Garcia is an ass. You can criticise the President as much as you wish but suggesting “actual weapons” be used is a phrase that is at the very least questionable and deserves a closer look. Is he just another illegal alien Mexican whose twisted notion of kinship causes him to resent Mexican illegals being deported? La Raza should be added to the list of 8.

ps: entering the US illegally should preclude one from ever becoming a naturalised citizen. Time for legislation.

pps: now that the US has matured there is no longer any good reason for allowing representatives to serve who are not natural born citizens. Time for an amendment.

    4. Martin’s letter was not about mere criticism as you imply, but rather it was about “threatening” physical safety. The difference is huge.

  13. We already know that if we examine the minds of the dem prog/left it is the same as experiencing Alice’s attempt to communicate down the rabbit hole. I do believe that all connection with reality has been severed by the prog/left. On another thought, we are correct to think that the progs view the common folk as not capable of comprehending facts and can be fooled with a snarky response (it’s Trump’s fault). This will be their “Let them eat cake” moment in the end.

    1. whimsicalmama,
Actually I do not think it is a divorce from reality but a desperate attempt to continue to gaslight the American people to actually believe the Trump admin has anything to do with pretty much anything. Just look at their mental gymnastics to twist and link anything bad to the Trump admin. It was one thing when they tried to do it back in his first admin but now they have kicked up the level to 11.

  14. AG Pam Bondi should open an investigation on Eric Swallowswell for possible treason with the Chinese spy.

    1. And why? Since you have no facts, just the crazy meandering of a hysterical media machine, why bother?

  15. Rather than “showing utter contempt for the intelligence of the public”, these attempts to blame these airline/private airplane accidents on Trump and Trump administration officials instead just illustrate the stupidity of those Democrats and media personalities making them.

    1. How’s the price of eggs these days? Pretty sure trump promised to lower them on day 1.

      1. @eggstein

We spend chicken feed for ten dozen eggs per month. The birds run around loose in the pasture eating bugs and weeds, so the yolks are dark orange and flavorful. We always have eggs, the dogs love scrambled eggs or a fried egg on their kibble, and we give eggs away. Quit yer moanin’ and get a chicken. Distributed food production will make this nation stronger.

        1. OldFish,
We were getting so many eggs we were giving them away to friends and neighbors and would still have two to three dozen in the fridge. Ours free range too but they have discovered where the wife’s bird feeders are. So have the wild geese and ducks too.
The bird flu is a real concern to the price of eggs. Does not help when they have to cull entire flocks.

          1. “Does not help when they have to cull entire flocks.”

I glanced at a report recently that seemed to claim that there was an experimental treatment that might successfully treat bird flu in chickens without the necessity of destroying entire flocks. Unfortunately I don’t recall more than that and did not save the link.

    2. 6 degrees, how about: The Buck Stops Here? Who’s the boss of the boss of the FAA? Donald perhaps. So, he’s to blame then.

  16. They never let an opportunity to lie or mislead go by. I grew up a liberal (although kind of a libertarian and pro-military). In law school over 40 years ago I started recognizing the basic unfairness it what it did. It took a lot of self-study and over ten years before I became a moderate and blamed both sides equally – they seemed the same. But that changed in the early 2000s, and began increasing speed when Obama was elected. The left have simply become the enemy of America, our laws, our sense of justice and fairness. They have no shame and have shown whenever they have power they will do whatever they can manage to hurt our country, perhaps destroy it. I still consider myself a moderate, but moderates have to oppose fascism and yes, the left has gone that far, though it is much more visible in Europe. He is actually a moderate trying to get us back to normal.

  17. The Dems have always been contemptuous of the Republicans’ intelligence. But they are equally contemptuous of even their own followers. These mini-rallies they put on demonstrate this perfectly. And now with Rep. Jasmine Crocket assuming a leadership mouthpiece, the proof is complete.
