Oh Canada: Teslas Banned from the International Car Show

If you go to the Vancouver International Auto Show, you can see all the new models. However, if you want to see a Tesla, you must go down the road to check out a car without a political litmus test. The organizers are just the latest group to join the mob retaliating against Elon Musk for working with the Trump Administration to remove waste and fraud in government through his DOGE program. What was most striking was the pathetic rationalization of the organization for engaging in political retaliation.

According to the Canadian Auto Dealer, the organizers claimed a common rationalization for political discrimination: security. As we have seen on college campuses for years, where conservative speakers are barred due to security concerns, the Canadians claimed that they could not protect innocent parties if a single Tesla was allowed on the floor. Furthermore, they blamed Tesla, insisting the company was given “multiple opportunities to voluntarily withdraw.”

In other words, we only cancelled Musk when he refused to cancel himself.

Tesla already had a booth set up and had to take it down.

So, the solution to extremists is to give them precisely what they demand.

After all, some on the left are committing political violence and claiming that they were triggered by the mere appearance of Teslas or other symbols. This week, another person wearing a MAGA hat was assaulted. The woman was triggered by the hat on the head of a 72-year-old man so she attacked him.

The Canadians appear willing collaborators in this retaliation. Rather than simply posting proper security, they banished the victim of the political violence. By blaming it on Tesla, they can throw up their hands and say “we tried” but Tesla was unreasonable.

It is the same rationalization heard from those arrested for political violence.

For example, Natasha Cohen, 46, a New York therapist, was arrested for vandalizing Teslas and explained that she is “living in terror every day.” It is a familiar refrain as the rise in political violence becomes undeniable. On Friday, New York Times Chief White House Correspondent and MSNBC Political Analyst Peter Baker came under fire for admitting that leftist violence is on the rise, but noting that Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric “might excite people to take action.”

Cohen explained that it is all Elon’s fault:

“Every time I see those cars, I see Elon Musk saluting the country as a Nazi…I made a mistake because I’m basically living in terror every day that the country is turning into Nazi Germany. I’m truly terrified, because Elon was unelected and they’re deporting migrants without a trial.”

However, people like Cohen are now safe from being triggered at the Vancouver International Auto Show. The organizers are only banning those who refuse to ban themselves.

  1. Canada has essentially no free speech. It’s not part of the culture. Jordan Peterson’s rise to fame was his fight against compelled speech.

This is also why I disagree with President Trump’s remarks about allowing Canada to join as the 51st state. Not only is Canada not interested, but if it joined, it would be deeper blue than California. I’m surprised the DNC hasn’t incorporated adding Canada to its party platform.

    1. In order to criticize Canada the Canadians have to come to US. Something wrong with this picture.

Scott Bessent says Trump is pushing to strip Harvard’s tax-exempt status

“Scott also went after Harvard’s enormous $53 billion endowment, calling it out directly. “Harvard is a gigantic hedge fund,” he said. “They run a leveraged investment model, so we’ll see where all that goes.” He also said the administration is examining ways to apply new taxes on college endowments.”

  3. OT: Trump’s attacks on Harvard are a good test case to see whether Turley’s support for free speech is non-partisan or one-sided:

Here is an old Turley article, showing support for NRA v. Vullo: https://jonathanturley.org/2024/01/04/gunning-for-free-speech-civil-libertarians-and-gun-right-advocates-join-to-oppose-new-yorks-attack-on-free-speech/

And here is Harvard, citing Vullo’s in its lawsuit:

“Revoking Harvard’s certification is unlawful many times over. It is a pillar of our constitutional system that the government cannot “invok[e] legal sanctions and other means of coercion” to police private speech, especially when the government’s treatment is animated by viewpoint discrimination. NRA v. Vullo (2024) (quoting Bantam Books, Inc. v. Sullivan (1963)). Prohibitions on viewpoint discrimination and on retaliation for protected speech are at the core of the First Amendment’s protections. And especially so here, because “academic freedom” is “a special concern of the First Amendment.” Keyishian v. Bd. of Regents (1967). The government’s effort to punish the University for its refusal to surrender its academic independence and for its perceived viewpoint is a patent violation of the First Amendment.”

The government’s clear retaliation of First Amendment rights based on viewpoint are supposed to be the one issue Turley cares about the most.

This is all in addition to the clear APA violations that are regular feature of most Trump actions to date. Back in 2016, Turley acknowledged that creation of agencies like DHS are “quasi-legislative,” which is why Trump’s “But I am the Executive!” whining is completely irrelevant. Yet, he has seemingly forgotten this stance as it relates to Trump. DHS cannot ignore the APA because the delegation of an agency’s authority is subject to these constraints from Congress. Turley’s silence regarding this obvious issue has been quite telling. But I won’t hold my breath any longer.

    1. Well written. I’ve long contended that Mr. Turley has little respect for his readers or he would be chomping at the bit to take on and discuss this issue as he is one of the county’s most prominent voices on free speech. Why not let his readers know of his opinion on this case? Why, today of all days, choose to discuss Tesla being turned away from a car show in Canada as if that had an real relevance to American politics or his special are of interest and expertise? Because it ticks all the buzzwords for his readers. Canada. Tesla. Elon. MAGA victimhood. Mr. Turley’s choice of topics is telling of how he regards his readers.

      1. I have noticed this trend as well. He will pick on immaterial Canadian or European free speech issues (or the latest on Hunter!) on days where Fox News prohibits him from criticizing President Trump’s clear attacks on free speech.

        1. Bingo. I remember once when Hugh Hewitt was asked why he didn’t ever discuss anything that Trump did that he didn’t agree with and his reply was, “Do you think I’m stupid? I’d lose my listeners!” Tells you a lot about what they think of their readers.

          1. Hey, that’s a good explanation for why the mainstream media and liberal press didn’t report on Biden’s frailties and cognitive impairment. They “weren’t stupid”. If they reported it they would have then lost their remaining liberal followers and, in addition to the previous loss of their moderate and few conservative followers, would have no viewers or readers.

            1. There absolutely was a LOT of left leaning press that was covering for his frailty – I do not dispute that. You are right. There was SOME left-leaning press that was putting the pressure on him and the Dems that he should get out. I’m thinking specifically of Ezra Klein with the NYTimes, and numerous pieces written in the Atlantic. But you are correct, for sure – and I’m the one criticizing Turley here. It DOES NOT do the population any favors for some of these politicos – who are clearly smart – to pull their punches. Like – I am a Democrat and yet I value Turley’s opinion. I genuinely want to know what he thinks about Trump’s attack on Harvard. I want to hear a right-learning alternative take to what my left bias is. And when he writes about Elon and Canada – all I can think is, what a wasted moment. I genuinely am looking for a good-faith debate.

              1. “I genuinely want to know what he thinks about Trump’s attack on Harvard.”
I am sure we will get to that – but Turley focuses on Free Speech – it is not all he covers but it is the bulk of it – the Canada/Tesla article is about the use of power to supress views you do not liek.

The conflict between Trump and Harvard is NOT a free speech issue.

Columbia and other universities with similarly troubling records.
Records of discrimination, records of supressing disfavored speech.
Records of failing to enforce the law on campus or doing so in a politically or ideologically preferential way, have agreed to this administrations demands.

The demands that DHS is making are reasonable – provide the records you have of lawlessness by foreign visa holders.

The judge thwarting this is stupid. Today’s demand comes from DHS, tomorow’s will be from a grand jury.

This is about crime – mostly violent crime on campus, not about speech.
Are you going to be pretending that Harvard cant refuse to provide documents responsive to subpeona ?

There are other issues in the Funding suspensions – that is about the racist and sexist policies of the university.
But again, these need not end with the decision to suspend funding.
DOJ can file a lawsuit for violations of title 9 and the CRA.
                And again subpeona’s will fly.

Those on the left seem to beleive that if you are on the left, you can violate the law – if you are also engaged concurrently in free speech that the left favors.
But if you are on the right – you are a criminal even if you follow the law – if you say something offensive to those on the left.

” I want to hear a right-learning alternative take to what my left bias is.”
The comment section of this blog provides right and left and myriads of other perspectives.

Prof. Turley’s posts are from a traditional liberal perspective – not the left or the right.

“And when he writes about Elon and Canada – all I can think is, what a wasted moment.”

Why ? This incident in Canada is an example of efforts to silence people based on their political views. That is solidly in Turley’s ballpark.

Contra the left – There is not much of a REAL claim of free speech violations by the Trump administration. Fake claims about. Is Turley obligated to devote space to every stupid claim of the right to the left ?

          2. Hewitt is “Irrelevant.”

Hewitt is an antithetical, anti-American, anti-Constitution traitor.

            1. I have rarely listened to Hewitt and I barely know him or his views.

But you have provided no evidence for your claims.

So why should anyone beleive you ?

What I do know is that the left attacks everyone from Alex Jones through Alan Derschowitz claiming they are all Nazi’s.

You have lost credibility. I and most others are likely to give no weight to your claims about others, because you have been so universally wrong in the past.

        2. ATS What Clear attacks on Free speech ?

Those of you on the left keep claiming there is some right win war against free speech – but the actual evidence of people being punished by govenrment or govenrment actors for speech are entirely on the left.

      2. Why should Turley bite on a specious free speech claim ?

While this is NOT a free speech case and the claims that it is are specious,
it is not clear that even if it was that free speech for foreign students is a winning constitutional issue.

There is ZERO doubt that the US can refuse to grant a visa to someone because of their speech in a foreign country.

The US is obligated to protect the free speech of citizens – even if that speech is offensive to core american values. We are NOT obligated to import people who openly reject our values.

This is a clear logic problem the left has there is no right to come to the US, there is no right to a visa, there is no right to study here, there is no right to immigrate here, there is no right to become a citizen.

It is an op-en question whether those who are here as a priviledge are free to engage in speech that would have resulted in their being denied that privilege.

But this case is not testing that.

The fight between Harvard and the Federal Government is about Harvard’s violation of rights. It is about harvard’s racism, it is about Harvards discrimination against asians, jews, and women. It is about Harvard’s violation of the free speech rights of others. It is about Harvard violating the contract that it has with students to provide a safe place to study. It is about harvard violating the contract it has with students to educate them.

Those of you on the left can rant about free speech all you want – PLEASE go off on a stupid tangent. Please make go to court as a plaintiff engaged in violating the free speech rights of others, claiming that the government is violating free speech rights by demanding that you keep your promises. That you educate ALL your students, that YOU do not discriminate on the basis of race or sex. That YOU do not allow and encourage violence, intimidation, and law breaking on your campus.

Harvard as a completely private entity – taking no government funds, and participating in no government programs such as J-1 and F-1 visa programs can discriminate as it please – thouhg only in a pure libertarian world – in the world the left has created Title 9 and the Civil Rights act prevent discrimination by private entities on the basis of race or sex.

But even if Harvard divorces itself from the federal government entirely, it would STILL be answerable for obstructing the prosecution of law breaking on campus.

It is not likely that DHS’s current actions are anywhere near the end of Harvard’s troubles.

I would expect the DOJ and FBI may start investigating Harvard’s enforcement of the law.

Most campus’s have their own police force. We have seen the left use the DOJ and FBI to force consent decrees on local police forces for law enforcement actions that violate the CRA.
        For systemic racism in policing.

That is precisely what we are seeing with Harvard.

And this can get worse still – some of DHS’s demands are with respect to spying being conducted by foreign students – particularly those from China on US campus’s.
We are all well aware that is going on. In the past the US has turned a blind eye to alot of it as these students are being coerced into spying for the CCP. Regardless, that is an oportunity for an FBI investigation – not just of the students by the universities complicity in that spying.

I would suggest those on the left think before they keep escalating this.

You are wrong on the law, you are wrong on the facts and you are wrong on public opinion.
Worse still you no longer control the federal government, and you are facing an administration that is going to enforce the law – often laws that YOU made.

This is a win-win for the Trump administration and a lose-lose for the left.

The wise course would be for Harvard to comply.

Students who engaged in violence will be deported.
Students who violated the law will be deported.

This is a small portion of foreign students at Harvard.

In the event you beleive that some of those being deported did not engage in violence of lawlessness – they will get “due process”.
People who have had their visa revoked are entitled to more due process than those who are here illegally.

        Fight the right fights.

Few in this country have any sympathy for the violent lawbreakers we have seen on campus over the past year.

        1. John

Or just maybe Harvard supports the hate against the Jews.
May how far they have fallen.

        2. There is ZERO doubt that the US can refuse to grant a visa to someone because of their speech in a foreign country.

This is true. But it can NOT revoke the person’s visa because of their speech once they got here. Even if they’re saying the same things that would have got them refused a visa in the first place. Once they set foot in the USA their speech is protected. This is something Rubio seems not to understand.

          1. Milhouse, the claim that “once they set foot in the USA their speech is protected” ignores that laws still apply to non-citizens, even after entry. While the First Amendment protects speech, that protection is not absolute for non-citizens on visas, especially regarding national security, immigration fraud, or violations of visa conditions.

            Review the INA.

    2. I eagerly await Turley’s full-throated and exhaustive analysis of how Harvard’s position in its lawsuit is exactly in line with his previous analysis of NRA v Vullo and how this case was “one of the most important free speech cases of the decade.”

As this country’s foremost champion of free speech and opponent of government coercion in private matters he will undoubtedly regale us with a cogent and exhaustive defense of Harvard.

      Oh, wait !!!!

Tesla got booted from a trade show in Canada.
Obviously, the matter with Harvard pales into irrelevant insignificance.

      1. Only a left wing nut could conflate NRA vs. Vullo with the fight between DHS and Harvard.

No one is looking to censor Harvard, or its students.

While the overwhelming majority of americans are shocked by the pro-hamas protests on college campuses, the right to protest includes the right to protest stupidly or to take the side of truly evil actors.

But more shocking still was the violence. The threats intimidation anad actual violence targeting jewish students and professors. The destruction of proprerty, the shutting down of the campuses denying other students the education they paid for, and the failure of Harvard to protect its students from this violence.

The NRA was not targeted for actual criminal acts. It was targeted for first amendment advocacy of the 2nd amendment. It was targeted for legal conduct.

Harvard is being required to turn over evidence of crimes in the DHS case, and to stop violating the CRA and Title 9 in the funding case.

    3. Harvard failed to comply with DHS’s reporting requirements, which is a condition of the privilege of certification.

      https://x.com/Sec_Noem/status/1925612991703052733/photo/1

In what respect is Secretary Noem’s assertions concerning Harvard’s compliance failures wrong? It is easy to waive your hands and say “It’s because of their speech, and so it’s a free speech violation,” but that’s just posturing.

    4. As is typical – those of you on the left paint this as a free speech case.

It is NOT – the only party engaged in censoring actual speech in this fight is Harvard.
The only party engaged in discrimination is Harvard – who was found repeatedly by courts to have RECENTLY discriminated against asians, and jews.

DHS asked Harvard for its records of criminal conduct by students holding educational visa’s

As Noem said in here repeated requests to Harvard – the J-1 and F-1 Programs are privileges, they are NOT rights.
Harvard has a horrible records for discrimination against asians and jews – both in admissions and on campus. It has a record of ignoring racially directed violence by students. It has a record as an unsafe place for asian and jewish students.

DHS is looking for records that will result in the termination of visa’s for students engaged in VIOLENCE.

As Homan has said repeatedly on the immigration issue – you can protest all you want.
You MAY NOT engage in violence, you may not break the law, you may not interfere with law enforcement.

You are free to disagree with the policies of the Trump administration.
You are free to protest for or against israel.

You are not free to attack or threaten others. You are not free to tresspass, or destroy private property. You are not free to discriminate on the basis of race. You are not free to violate the first amendment rights of others, You are not free to interfere with any of the rights of others – including the right of other students to get the education they are paying for.

  4. Karoline Leavitt – “hatred has no place in the United States of America under President Donald Trump.”

Donald Trump – “I hate Taylor Swift.”

Has Karoline Leavitt told trump to get out of the United States?

    1. Poor little babytrump simply cannot grasp idiolect, idiosyncrasy, and literary license.

      1. That was but one example of the hateful speech trump has been throwing out for years. And People have died as a result of his speech. Get a life, trump is a fricken A HOLE like the world hasn’t seen in a long time.

        1. People on their way home died in Afghanistan because of the foreigner-first, communist (liberal, progressive, socialist, democrat, RINO, AINO) idiocy of dementia patient and traitor Joe Biden et al., as but one example.

Poor little babytrump simply cannot grasp idiolect, idiosyncrasy, and literary license.

          1. People died in Afghanistan because: 1. Trump drew down troops from 14,000 to 2,500; 2. turned loose from prison 5,000 Taliban; 3. didn’t arrange for any air or land base from which to operate; 4. didn’t involve the Afghanis in negotiations–so they just gave up. This is one of the messes left for Biden to deal with.

            1. Dumb as a rock.

              “1. Trump drew down troops from 14,000 to 2,500;
              And there was peace.
” 2. turned loose from prison 5,000 Taliban;”
              And there was peace.

What did we learn from 1&2
Trump knew what he was doing, and the Taliban knew there was power behind his words.
Biden didn’t know what he was doing. The Taliban knew death was in the air and treated Biden like the fool he is.

“3. didn’t arrange for any air or land base from which to operate;”

The fool Biden left Bagram Airbase. That was going to be kept by Trump as insurance against the Taliban and China.

“4. didn’t involve the Afghanis in negotiations–so they just gave up.”

Trump used intelligence. The deal was between the US and the Taliban. The government of Afghanistan was not formally involved and signed on. If the Afghan government didn’t want the deal, they didn’t have to accept it, but our troops needed to go home.

The deal was working under Trump, but under the fool Biden, a catastrophe occurred and left us with 13 dead soldiers while the fool Biden left billions of dollars of planes, tanks and weapons. Biden let himself be run over by a tank.

Take note of how many wars started under Biden and how wars are ending under Trump. This is the second time the Trump administration had to deal with international problems, which began with the Democrats.

You are really dumb. Go back to reading comics.

              1. Trump IS not intelligent, nor did he “rely” on intelligence. If he had been intelligent, he would have gotten out people who needed to get out BEFORE turning loose the Taliban. He would have gotten out the “billions of dollars of planes, tanks, and weapons” BEFORE turning loose the Taliban. He would have maintained our troop strength until people, including our allies, got out safely and THEN turned loose the Taliban. WHY would he NOT involve the Afghani people in negotiations involving their country that we weren’t going to be helping to defend any more? He did everything bass-ackwards because he is stupid. He left Biden with a no-win situation that MAGA media tries to blame on Biden when it all when south–which anyone with common sense would know was the likely outcome with troop strength less than even the Taliban prisoners Trump turned loose.

And, neither Biden nor Trump has anything to do with conflicts starting elsewhere in the world–just another MAGA media fake argument–e.g., that Hamas would not have attacked Israel if Trump was stinking up the White House. If Hamas is so scared of Trump, why hasn’t he been able to broker a settlement–or even get Israel to stop the genocide and at least let in humanitarian aid? If Ukraine and Russia are so scared of Trump, why didn’t he end the war on “day one”, like he claimed he would? He can’t even get a cease-fire in that conflict, either. Trump’s weakness emboldened Putin into going after Ukraine because he thought that Trump had so alienated our NATO allies that the US couldn’t pull together a united front. Biden’s reputation and the international respect he commands proved Putin wrong. Putin also proves that Trump is just a loudmouthed braggart that no one respects.

                1. You continue to be as dumb as a rock. It is obvious you never read the agreement with the Taliban and do not know how to protect yourself or your country. You don’t even have the facts.

Of course we don’t expect a reasonable reply from a lunatic, so Goodbye Gigi. The orderlies will be with you shortly.

                  1. Agreement with the Taliban ?????
                    REALLY ????

If anyone believes it is possible to make an agreement with the Taliban about ANYTHING, then they are profoundly mentally ill.

If you think Trump had some sort of “agreement” with the Taliban, then both you and Trump are profoundly mentally impaired.

                    1. I provided a summary and even included a link to what I thought was the lowest intellectual bar. You’ve forced me to recalibrate.

                2. BIDEN took out the military BEFORE rescuing others. GET your facts right DUMMY MARY(GIGI?)

                3. Mary, can we get rid of financial assistance and affirmative action yet, or do you still need them.

                4. Mary
                  Trump IS not intelligent.
What foolish comment. This man made it to the highest office and made millions with his motels/golf-courses . Biden, not so much. Just check out Biden’s last four years. Big reason he lost

                5. “Trump IS not intelligent,”
                  ROFL
As Van Jones pointed out – you od not succeed as Trump has without being smarter than everyone else.

“”nor did he “rely” on intelligence.”
The Trump WH spent millions on private intelligence – because they wisely did not trust the US intelligence aparatus. It is that private intelligence that correctly informed Trump about all kinds of things accross the world.

” If he had been intelligent, he would have gotten out people who needed to get out BEFORE turning loose the Taliban.”
His plan was to leave by April 2021 – at that time the Taliban controlled about 1/4 of the country and was far from Kabul. Had Biden left then US troops would not have been killed. It is also possible that with the US gone in April the Afghans would have realized they had to fight the Taliban on their own – that We were not going to save them. But if they did not – the results for Afghans would be about the same.

Trump or Biden it does not matter – if the AFghans wanted a country they had to fight for it. If they did not, most of the disaster that occured was inevitable.
What was not was the death of US soldiers and the chaos of out depoarture.

” He would have gotten out the “billions of dollars of planes, tanks, and weapons” BEFORE turning loose the Taliban.”
That was not happening. Removing the material in Afghanistan that took years to get there was not happening in a few months no matter who was president.

But Trump intended to keep Bagram – just as the US holds Guantanamo in Cuba.

“He would have maintained our troop strength until people, including our allies, got out safely”
Troop strength was WAY down by Jan 20, 2017 – Obama conducted the large scale troop withdrawls.

“WHY would he NOT involve the Afghani people in negotiations involving their country that we weren’t going to be helping to defend any more?”
Because it is the Afghani peoples job to decide their future.

                  ROFL.

You are under the delusion that any US choice other than staying in Afghanistan would have thwarted the Taliban.

The Taliban did not negotiate with the Afghani government because it correctly perceived they were weak and corrupt.
Nothing Trump could have done short of STAY would have changed that.

” He left Biden with a no-win situation”
It was always a no win situation.
Had Trump not started the Withdraw, more US soldiers would have died and another president would have had the task of leaving.
Biden made a mess of getting out.
But unless the Afghani people chose to fight, the Taliban was taking over and the mess that resulted in would happen regardless.

“to blame on Biden when it all when south”
Biden was president – Nothing Trump did was not reverseable.
Biden made his own decision to leave, but NOT on Trump’s timetable.
He could have stayed, sent more troops or left in April.
He made the choices – Trump did not.

“which anyone with common sense would know was the likely outcome with troop strength less than even the Taliban prisoners Trump turned loose.”

From approx. 2006 it was clear that the US was either staying forever or the Taliban were going to return to power. The only way that would change is if he Afghani’s fought for their country. That is on them.

“And, neither Biden nor Trump has anything to do with conflicts starting elsewhere in the world”
                  Of course they do.
There was atleast one new global conflict for every president from Jimmy Carter through Joe Biden EXCEPT TRUMP.

The odds of that been an accident are zero.

Putin invaded neighors under Bush, Obama, and Biden – not Trump.

Putin invaded neighbors every single time those neighbors joining NATO was raised.

Trump unleashed US energy which significantly undercut Putin’s leverage.
Biden reversed that. Putin had every reason to expect that Europe would cave over threats to energy.
And frankly the only reason they did not was because Trump started the infrastructure to export LNG from the East coast gas fields in PA to Europe.
By the time the war started the US was able to replace most Russian NG saving Europe from collapse.

“that Hamas would not have attacked Israel if Trump was stinking up the White House. ”
                  They didn’t.

“If Hamas is so scared of Trump, why hasn’t he been able to broker a settlement–or even get Israel to stop the genocide and at least let in humanitarian aid? ”
Many factors were involved in causing and preventing Hama’s attrocities.
Trump had Iran contained. Hamas, Hezbolla, the Houtis were not getting enough assistance from Iran to make much of a stink.
Biden relaxed restraints on Iran and the whole mideast blew up – not just Israel.

“If Ukraine and Russia are so scared of Trump, why didn’t he end the war on “day one”, like he claimed he would? He can’t even get a cease-fire in that conflict, either.”
Again there are lots of factors to triggering a war, and lots to end one.
Putin had no reason to Attack Ukraine during Trumps term.
Was Putin more scared of Trump than Biden – almost certainly.
But there is much more to why there was no war then than that.
Trump did not provoke Putin with stupid talk.
Trump increased US energy putting russia at a power disadvantage.

There will be peace in Ukraine and Israel soon enough.

But you keep making the same logic errors.
Whether the Taliban controlled Afghanistan was ultimately up to the Afghani people. They had to fight for themselves and they chose not to.

“Trump’s weakness emboldened Putin into going after Ukraine because he thought that Trump had so alienated our NATO allies that the US couldn’t pull together a united front. Biden’s reputation and the international respect he commands proved Putin wrong. Putin also proves that Trump is just a loudmouthed braggart that no one respect”
                  ROFL

Biden has NEVER had any significant positive repution. He was a poorly spoken klutz as a senator, Obama famously said never under estimate Biden’s ability to F#$K things up.

You are just looney. Absolutely Putin would love to retake the former USSR.
But he is NOT going to sacrifice millions of Russians to do so.

Your arguments are Garbage. You say Trump was weak – false and irelevant.
You say Putin thought NATO could not pull together a United front – False and irrelevant.

Ukraine will lose to Russia inevitably – no matter how much money tech and weapons the US or NATO provide. For Ukraine to defeat Russia they had to inflict casulties at a rate of 5:1 or more or they lose a war of attrition. Historically the Russian army is badly lead. It fights badly, it takes enormous casualties. And it wins eventually through sheer force of numbers. And that is exactly what is happening in Ukraine. Russia is slowly at great cost grinding Ukraine to dust. No amount of money or weapons has been able to change that. While Russia expected this to be over quickly and was wrong. Russia is ALWAYS prepared for a long grinding war.

Only one thing will reverse the situation in Ukraine – and that is more boots on the ground. That means ANY ONE consequential NATO or EU country sending Troops to Ukraine. Poland, Germany, France, Spain, the UK or combinations of smaller countries like Sweden and Finland.

The EU like the US is willing to provide Ukraine with hundreds of billions in weapons – which have prevented Ukrain from being over run quickly by Russia.
But without Troops Ukraine eventually looses – NO MATTER WHAT.

Actual experts predicted this before the War Started.
Russian Expert John Mersheimer has pridicted every single Russian invasion of a neighbor.

Putin has made is perfectly clear Why he invaded Ukraine (and Crimea, and Georgia, and …) – Russia will NOT allow NATO to come to Russia’s border.
                  Period, Full STOP.
Every single time the west has discussed NATO expansion to a country adjacent to Russia – Putin has invaded. Victoria Nuland is heavily involde in triggering Both the invation of Crimia and that of Ukraine.

The invasion of Ukraine was TRIVIALLY preventable.

DO NOT EVEN HINT AT NATO MEMBERSHIP.

The US damn near started global nuclear War because of Russian incursions into Cuba. Do you honestly think Russia is going to sit back as NATO moves into Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia ?

The Cause of the Ukraine war is TRIVIAL – loose talk by the US about NATO membership – Even Biden was personally saying stupid things.

Biden is not respected – he was ALWAYS incompetent. He was ALWAYS corrupt. But for most of the past decade he has also been demented.

But there are other factors in this war. Biden allowed Europe to become ever more dependant on Russian energy – Russia honestly beleived that the EU would not get involved in anyway because the loss of Russian Energy would devastate the already weak European economy.

Biden was able to partly offset the losses of Russian Energy because Trump had started building out US LNG facilities on the US east coast and the US was able to replace Russian NG almost 1:1 – But Biden did not make that happen Trump did – because that had to start 3 years earlier – it takes YEARS to build out LNG facilitates.

                6. Is Trump a loud mouth braggart – absolutely. That is a comon attribute of politicians. Biden is most definitely a loud mouthed braggart.

Do people respect Trump ? Depends on what you mean by Respect.

Do people like trump ? People on the oposite side of an issue from him definitely do not like him.

Do people do what he wants ? Absolutely. Trump ultimately gets what he wants. What he wants today is to deliver Agenda 47. What the majority of the american people want is for Trump to deliver on Agenda 47.

That is NOT what the left wants. That is NOT what the EU wants. That is NOT what Iran or Hezbolla or Hamas, or the Houthis want. It is not even what many of our Allies want.
But the vast majority of Agenda 47 WILL be accomplished.

If Respect means others doing what you want – Trump is incredibly well respected.

I do not give a schiff if the leaders of the rest of the world LIKE Trump.

I do care greatly that the US government puts the interests of the american people FIRST, and that it achieves those interests – domestically and globally.

Frankly I do not care what most current EU leaders think about much of anything. The EU is in the midst of its own MAGA revolt. In less than a decade the current socialist european leaders will be swept aside. Many are already gone. We do not know exactly what that means – beyond that Europeans are incredibly dis satisified with their current leaders. Europe is going through the same thing that resulted in Trump winning in 2016 in the US.

Whether that proves successful in the EU will depend on whether the antisocialist leaders in the EU that replace the current socialists can deliver.
That will likely prove a more difficult task. Europe has far more problems than the US. Regardless, left wing nuts in the EU have failed – and ultimately will be replaced.

The respect of people who will not be there a few years from now is unimportant.

I would further note that Europes already bad problems are going to get worse.

The US and the world have been in the midst of a structural re-organization that started a couple of decades ago.

The US national interests are increasingly in the western hemisphere and the pacific – Not Europe and the mid east.

We are NOT leaving NATO – but NATO’s importance to the US is already greatly diminished.

You rant about Ukraine. While Biden and Nuland bear significant responsibility, the most important responsibility is european.

Ukraine is NOT in the US national interests. We should not be shedding our treasure and we will not shed our blood for Ukraine.
Ukraine is a National security interest of Europe.

Peace and stablility in the mid east is NOT a US interest anymore. The US can meet its energy needs internally, from Canada, From Mexico, From South america several times over. We do not care about the stability of the mid east anymore. But EUROPE does. Right now it should be Europe trying to bring peace to the MidEast not the US.

But Ultimately it will be Trump. There are TWO critical elements to mideast peace and stability. Expanding Israel’s ties to arab countries. The Abraham accords were the first peace deal in 4 decades and the largest ever. But they need to expand. All the necescities to accomplish that exist – except resolving the Palestinian issue. One way of doing so is for Arab countries to become frustrated with Hamas – and that is happening.
Hamas brought the current disaster on itself. Saudi Arabia will recognize Israel and MBS’s power grows. Trump is very close to MBS.
Another Factor is containing Iran or better still bring Iran back into the civilized world. Trump WILL succeed in containing Iran – he did so in his first term. The mess in the mideast over the past few years is specifically the result of the Biden administrations piss poor policies towards Iran. Every flash point in the mideast over the past few years ties directly to Iran.
Peace in the Mideast requires that Iran is contained, or that they rejoin the world and quit exporting terror.

I would note that in the past year plus – Gaza exploded, Yemen Exploded, Lebanon exploded – every single one of those the actions of an Iranian proxy.

The West bank did NOT explode Egypt did not explode – outside of Syria which had been in the midst of a bloody civil war for decades there was peace everywhere that Iran was not involved.

The Current Israely war was fundimentally against Iran – and Israel is chomping at the bit to take out Iran. They already obliterated Iranian air defenses, Israel alone – merely with the US standing aside can and will devastate Iran if allowed.

Israel’s national interests require Iran to quit exporting terror.

The destruction of Hezbolla by Israel and the efforts to wipe Hamas out are evidence of Israel power and importance, and their determination.

You rant about humanitarian aid – did the allies provide humanitarian aide to Japan before they surrenedered ? Did we provid humanitarian aide to Germany before they surrendered ?

“once war is forced upon us, there is no other alternative than to apply every available means to bring it to a swift end.

War’s very object is victory, not prolonged indecision.

In war there is no substitute for victory.”

Peace in Gaza is trivially accomplished – Hamas can lay down its arms.
When that happens it will be trivial to not only feed Gazan’s but to make Gaza incredibly prosperous.

That was the real and critical message in Trump’s remarks about taking over and rebuilding Gaza.
The audience for those remarks was NOT americans, or Europeans. It was the people who could end the conflict forever.
It was to the Gazan people – get rid of Hamas and you can be prosperous.
It was to Qatar and SA and arab nations – Gazan’s have only themselves to blame for their poverty.
Gazan is on welfare receiving massive aide from other Arab countries.
Aide that but for its hostility to Israel it has no need for.

If Gazan’s are starving – that is their own fault.

Humanitarian aide just prolongs the inevitable and gives Gazan’s false hope that they can win this.

Any peace in Gaza from a cease fire is temporary.

Hamas must be defeated – either by the IDF or by Arab nations cuting them off.

                7. The only genocide going on is the “Palestinians”‘ ongoing attempt to resume their grandparents’ Holocaust. Israel is trying its best to stop it.

            2. ” 1. Trump drew down troops from 14,000 to 2,500;”

The US troop withdrawl began in 2014 under Obama and there were only a few thousand troops in Afghanistan as Trump took office.

“2. turned loose from prison 5,000 Taliban;”
Those would be prisoners of war, generally prisoners are freed as the war ends.

” 3. didn’t arrange for any air or land base from which to operate; ”
False, Trump had no intention of giving up Bagram. That was a decision by Biden.

“4. didn’t involve the Afghanis in negotiations–so they just gave up.”
From before the US invaded through our departure the Afghan people were ALWAYS capable of throwing out the Taliban if they wanted to.
It is not the role of the US government to put steel in the spine of the Afghan people.
It is not the role of the US government to impose liberal democracies on countries against their will.

Trump negotiated the US withdraw from a country where any reason for us being there ended almost 2 decades earlier.
The AFghani people could have fought if they wanted to, or negitiated.
It was NOT our job to make that happen.

Afghanistan is ruled by the Taliban today because the Afghani people did not want an alternative badly enough to stand up tot he Taliban.

That is not the fault of the US or Trump.

so what is your answer – stay another 20 years ?

The US is not the policemen of the world.
We had TWO missions in Afghanistan – catching Bin Laden and removing the Taliban.
We failed at both long before Trump took office.

Bush promised we would only be in Afghanistan briefly – he lied.
Obama promised we would be out in 90days – almost 3000 days later still there.

You get out by bringing troops home.

“This is one of the messes left for Biden to deal with.”
Biden could have reversed Trump’s Afghanistan decisions – as he did so many others.

Biden CHOSE to depart – he had always been an advocate of getting out of afghanistan – it is one of few things he was right about.

              But he botched leaving.

The planned US departure was in April. Biden delayed – and between April and August the Taliban took over the country and created the chaotic conditions that resulted.

While the Afghan people and army could have defeated the Taliban – they were more numerous and better equipped. They did not have the will to do so.

Afghanistan fell because of the Afghan people.

Lots of people where going to die if they were unwilling to fight.

But the chaotic mess that resulted in dead US soldiers is entirely on Biden.

        2. No it is not an example of hateful speech anymore than I hate Jazz is an example of hateful speech.

Do you have a clue who stupid your posts come off ?

Are all left wingnuts incample of more than shallow first order thinking ?

        3. “I hate Taylor Swift” is not hatred. It is not hateful speech. It is the same as “I hate olives”.

No one has ever died as a result of Trump’s speech. Many people died as a result of Biden’s Clinton’s and 0bama’s speech.

      2. Pretty sure it was MAGA-WORLD and the bloated orange toad in the adult diapers who lost their FREAKING minds because James Comey posted a photo of some sea shells, but please – do go on.

    2. Wrong kind of hate you fool.
I may hate someone, but that doesn’t mean I wish to harm them.
Yet on the left said (as we have seen) hate means to harm.

OK, class is over for today

      1. You might DUSTOFF that cognitive process, such as it is, and try your entire incoherent thread again.

    3. You played that before loser. Try again. Someone can hate something or someone. That doesn’t mean they wish to harm them.
I see why you call yourself (baby)

  5. There’s no law against people acting childishly, and cutting off their nose to spite their face. If they want to harm their own business interests for stupid reasons, the world will move on without them. The world is more interested in business ventures than in silly little grudges based on huwt feewings.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree.
Trump should stop acting like a child and stop harming this country’s businesses with with his assinine tariffs.

Cutting off his nose to spite his face indeed.

      1. Congrats on the most ignorant, uninformed comment of the day. I can see why you post your idiotic garbage with no screen name.

The TDS is strong with you.

        1. OldManFromKS,
It seems out leftist friends are rather desperate to flood the good professor’s blog with, as you aptly put it, “ignorant, uninformed comment of the day.” They are practically frothing at the mouth to deflect from the fact a blue haired leftist physically assaulted a 72 year old man. That a far leftist shot and killed two people in DC and then proceeded to shout “Free Palestine!” while being taken into custody.

      2. I wholeheartedly agree.

President Donald J. Trump should impose massive tariffs on cheating anti-American foreign countries as but one method employed to Make America Great Again, you —-ing America-hating traitor!

        Making America First Indeed!

        1. Explain just HOW increasing the cost of goods by imposing tariffs will inure to the benefit of the American people. We import many consumer goods from China–like household goods, shoes, clothes, car parts, toys, appliances, pharmaceuticals, skin care, make up and other health and beauty items, just to name a few. How does jacking up the cost of these goods by 145% benefit the American people who have to pay the increased cost? Trump has this sick idea in his head that if the value of goods we export isn’t higher than the value of goods we import, we’re getting cheated–not true! Because of his narcissism, in his mind, it must look like the US has an advantage over countries we do business with. That’s not how trade works. The value of an item made in China at a much lower cost than we can make it here in the US is an ADVANTAGE to us–it keeps the cost of such goods lower than if the item were manufactured here. It’s called “trade”–and it benefits the US and China. Trump doesn’t understand economics. He understands bullying.

Already, consumer spending is way down because people fear a recession due to Trump’s stupidity. And the see-sawing back and forth for tariffs–on–off–increased amount–lowered amount–pause for 90 days–creates uncertainty. Businesses won’t invest because of this uncertainty, and won’t start building factories to try to make up the shortfall. In any event, we cannot manufacture the goods we purchase from China at the same cost, because we pay people a living wage–so the price of goods we get from China would go up even if American manufacturers were to start trying to manufacture all of the goods we import–that will hurt consumers. Orders for Christmas goods should have already been placed in order to get them in time, but companies don’t want to place orders with the tariffs in place, so shelves will be empty this Christmas. Trump’s answer–little girls only need 2 dolls, not 30 dolls. It’s all about his narcissism and ignorance of economics, but we, the American people, are getting hurt. China will just sell its stuff somewhere else.

          1. IS THAT YOU GIGI?? CHINA makes our medicines; are you OK with that?? A little drop of poison in each pill will kill us all. YES please let China sell elsewhere.
China is building a HUGE military off of American dollars to destroy us!!

            1. Good chance a CCP social media propagandist. If not, a person with an allergy to truth and facts.

          2. Someone much smarter than you,

We can both grow the economy and control the debt. What is important is that the economy grows faster than the debt.

If we change the growth trajectory of the country, of the economy, then we will stabilize our finances and grow our way out of this. pic.twitter.com/lv07wJne1f

There is an equilibrium rate for tariffs and I think we will reach that rate.

            1. Scott Bessent? Are you joking? That clown says whatever Trump commands him to say, and responsible economists think he’s nothing but a bobble-headed syncophant. According to nonpartisan sources, Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” would add $2.5 trillion to the national debt while enriching the top 1% at the cost of the poorest Americans. 13 million Americans will lose their health care coverage, all to benefit the wealthiest. Trump isn’t going to “grow the economy”–his tariffs are going to cause a recession. According to “Forbes”:

“Tariffs add to the price of imported goods. Will inflation rise as a result? Yes, to some extent. However, it’s important to understand that the added tariffs — at least in some cases, will be partially absorbed by manufacturers, distributors, retail outlets, and finally, the U.S. consumer. Additionally, it’s possible the Chinese government will subsidize China-based exporters to help offset some of the added costs.

Are tariffs a good idea in general? The U.S. added sweeping tariffs under President Herbert Hoover, which were designed to help farmers. Most economists believe the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 prolonged the depression and even made it worse. The difference is that the U.S. had a trade surplus then, while it has a trade deficit now. Tariffs are never a good idea when you have a trade surplus. Interestingly, Trump’s recent announcement imposes a 10% tariff on the United Kingdom, a country with which we have a trade surplus. Thus, not all of Trump’s tariffs seem to make sense.”

Already consumer spending is down–from “CNN”: “In a sign that consumer demand may be fraying around the edges, spending at US retailers slowed sharply in April to 0.1% after a surge of 1.7% in March as shoppers rushed to beat President Donald Trump’s stiff tariffs.

The April data was worse than the 0.2% monthly rise economists polled by FactSet predicted.

Among the biggest monthly declines was motor vehicle and part sales, which declined to -0.1% in April from 5.5% in March.

Consumer spending is the backbone of the economy, accounting for two-thirds of gross domestic product. The steep drop in retail sales could lead to another quarter of disappointing GDP after the contraction seen last quarter.

Simply put, EY economists said in a Thursday morning note, the “pre-tariff shopping spree is over.””

              1. WOW mary
So now you fools care about the debt? Yet during bidens time. Not a big deal….
                You just outed yourself

            2. UpstateFarmer

              Scott Bessent ???
Someone much smarter than you ????

              HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Good one. You should consider doing standup comedy.

Bessent got his start with George Soros. Oh the horror !!!!
He eventually led the London office for Soros Fund Management.

He left Soros in 2000 to found the hedge fund Bessent Capital, which failed, and closed in 2005 after massive losses.

He then returned to Soros Fund Management from 2011 to 2015.
I guess that he wanted to return to his roots as a leftist, communist, fascist, globalist intent on destroying the economic systems of the capitalist world.

In 2015 Bessent left Soros again to start another hedge fund, known as Key Square Group.
This fund returned 13% in 2016, then essentially collapsed.
From 2017 to 2023, the fund’s assets shrank from $5.1 billion to $577 million, a loss of 89%.
The number of investors dropped from 180 to 20.

After this resounding failure, Bessent moved on to his next failing enterprise, the Trump administration, where his inadequacies, poor financial judgement, and poor understanding of basic economics are becoming more apparent on a daily basis.

              1. And in addition to his inadequacies as a financial manager, he is gay, married to another man and has two children by surrogacy.

By any MAGA standards, this man is a complete loser.
He cannot possibly be a real man when he leads a life of perversion.
He makes a mockery of everything you MAGA morons stand for.

          3. Recent survey of 1,000 companies found 9 out of 10 planned on re-shoring or on-shoring production or manufacturing in America in the next 4 years.
Trump is right, little girls only need 2 dolls. Our hyper consumer for cheap China made products with built in obsolescence is what is bankrupting Americans.

Johnson & Johnson Increases U.S. Investment to More than $55 Billion Over the Next Four Years

            1. The NY Post is MAGA media. “planning” does not equate to actual investment, as history has proven.

            2. “Trump is right, little girls only need 2 dolls.”

It is not the government’s function to dictate to parents how many toys they buy for their children. Or whether you can own a gas stove, an internal combustion car, a light bulb or shower head that actually work, the size of your soft drink, . . .

          4. Here are the companies that have committed to investing billions in the US over Trump tariffs
            https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/finance/here-are-companies-have-committed-investing-billions-us-over-trump-tariffs

There are even more since that article was written.
Then there will be second and third level related and even unrelated jobs that will be added to the economy. Now we are talking about real, serious money. And as Scott Bessent pointed out, the tariffs will help pay down the debt.

            1. “. . . the tariffs will help pay down the debt.”

Why not just raise corporate and personal rates? It’s the same thing.

              1. ” It’s the same thing.”

Sam, I cannot believe an educated person thinks tariffs and taxes are the same thing. The effects of both are quite different as are some of the reasons for their use.

Why not use both tariffs and taxes to accomplish different things while they both help lower the debt.

        1. You might DUSTOFF that cognitive process, such as it is, and try your entire incoherent thread again.

  6. I’m sure all of the Tesla’s employees and stockholders have learned their lesson and they will all stop trying to cut fraud, waste and abuse from the bloated government budget.

  7. OT, everyone today is talking about white farmers being mistreated in South Africa. That wasn’t true two or three days ago. As usual, Trump sets the agenda.

    1. no, No, NO—the news of white farmers being kicked off their lands and murdered is not new, “two or three days ago.” I’ts been going on for years now, totally blacked out, for political reasons that are expedient to extreme-leftist agendas. In fact, this news is deliberately hidden, so that people like you can say exactly what you’ve just said, making the crimes of injustice and murder irrelevant and unimportant, and they get away with it, while you aid them in either minimizing it or denying it. And yes, it’s time for someone to sound the alarm and set the agenda, concerning the South African atrocities.

      1. Why are we having this discussion now?

How in the world did the Founders and their descendants, “Ourselves and Our Posterity,” clear the territories of the West, all the way to the Pacific Ocean, and make them habitable for actual Americans if not for their capacity and immutable decisiveness?

Whatever happened to that innate and invincible European resolve?

        1. WHY? Perhaps because our audacious President showed an emperor without his clothes—hard to stomach, like chemotherapy, but necessary. Perhaps because of the way Musk watched that emperor enjoying the pomp, feigning civility, getting his comeuppance. …. ….
And, YOU brought it up. As appears to be your habit, you scratch at all kinds of wounds, and from all sides, thinking you know all about those wounds.

      2. Dianna – you and I agree. I was pointing out that it’s been “blacked out” (as you say) until Trump forced it into discussion. I said Trump sets the agenda, meaning when he decides to discuss something, it becomes the topic of discussion for the rest of the country. He decided it was time to thrust this injustice into the open and – voilà – it is now in the open for people to discuss – and hopefully do something about.

        1. Yessir. It seems that the left, true to form, will not question this ongoing atrocity, but rather retort in deference to ideology, rather than humanity. And yes, the dark secret is out: the injustices and killings are out in the open, ONLY because Trump has the bully pulpit now; he rightly shines light on the evil taking place in South Africa, and the social justice extreme leftists are incredulous and hypocritical, as usual.

      3. Dianna,
You are correct. This has been going on for some time. MSM did not want to cover it.

  8. I agree that this retaliation against Tesla is unfortunate. Like any retaliation is. I only wonder why Professor Turley is so one-sided and only writes about retaliation against Trump & Co.? Is he blind to the fact that much of what Trump & Co. are doing is retaliation?

    1. Exactly. He calls out retaliation against a fight Elon picked on the same day that the administration trounces on First Amendment rights by illegally denying Harvard’s international students visas.

At least organizations like FIRE – which is no friend of Harvard – has principles that Turley apparently lacks: https://x.com/TheFIREorg/status/1925640384610250773

      1. Racists aren’t given visas generally. Racism is against the law and unconstitutional. The left has demonstrated they are racists and exclusionary. Segregation is ok.

It’s time to delete the civil rights portion and fully embrace racism and Segregation and the left has provided the way. It’s about time! A true accomplishment in transparency is accomplished.

        1. Racism is a fully constitutional freedom of choice.

Affirmative action, quotas, forced busing, etc. are nothing but racism.

Racism was employed to circumvent the legal requirement to compassionately repatriate freed slaves on January 1, 1863, per existing immigration law, the Naturalization Act of 1802, that was in full force and effect.

          To wit,

Naturalization Acts of 1790, 1795, 1798, and 1802 (four iterations for maximal clarity)

United States Congress, “An act to establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization,” March 26, 1790

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, That any Alien being a free white person, who shall have resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for the term of two years, may be admitted to become a citizen thereof….

        2. Racism is unconstitutional you say?

A number of the American Founders and Framers were slaveholders, quite appropriately and legally in context, I might add.

According to Aninny, the men who wrote the Constitution were unconstitutional.

          What’s wrong with this picture.

    2. Generously, if Trump is retaliating against people who say free speech should be limited then you can count me on board. If Trump is retaliating against the news Media who covered up Biden’s onset of dementia then you can count me on board. If Trump wants to retaliate against the people who slaughtered 1700 jews in one day you can count me in. If Trump wants to retaliate and cut iff funding for condoms in Africa by USAID I’m all for it. You are only concerned for retaliation against Tesla when it serves your making of a point in criticism of A Turley post. Phony as a wooden nickel.

      1. TIT: WHAT “onset of dementia”? WHERE is the proof? MAGA media harping about “Biden’s incompetency” is proof of nothing, just like its harping about a “Biden Crime Family” that they couldn’t prove but still lie about. WHERE is there a citation to the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association or the Gerontology Society of America that lists proof that someone has dementia, along with proof that Biden met these criteria? How about some expert who claims to have proof that he had dementia? Hur’s nonsensical statement is proof of nothing–he is NOT a physician. MAGA media took Biden’s shuffling–due to arthritis, his occasional slurring of speech–due to a lifelong problem with stuttering and occasionally forgetting someone’s name as PROOF of dementia. (How about Trump calling Tim Cook “Tim Apple”?).

What about the State of the Union speeches, speeches before the UN, the multiple speeches before foreign governments, meetings with foreign leaders, and Biden’s impressive legislative achievements, conquering COVID and getting America back to work, back to school, able to go to restaurants and on vacation again? Could someone who, according to Karen S., is so out of it that he”has to be led by the hand” accomplish these things?

Why should the US get involved in the Hamas (financed by MBS, who gave Trump a $400 M jet and who Trump slobbered all over, embarrassing himself and the United States) vs. Israel conflict? Condoms were sent for the purpose of curbing the spread of AIDs.

        1. No proof of Biden’s dementia or incompetency? . . . Oooooookay, that’s about all we need to hear to know you’re coockoo!

          1. @kirk

That’s because ‘Mary’ is Gigi. Gigi is Natacha. Who Natacha is, we will never know. They have been a troll haunting this blog for years, and it isn’t tough to detect the tone or tenor in their comments. Scroll past.

        2. Mary, even Jake Tapper is now admitting that they should have seen the signs of Dementia in Joe Biden. George Clooney couldn’t believe the difference in Biden since their last meeting. The Democrats threw Biden under the bus after his Debate with Trump when he stood with a slack jaw because he couldn’t understand a question. Somehow you missed it all. The only explanation is that Mary must be suffering from the same malady. You should run right out and buy Tapper’s book explaining how he somehow missed all the signs. Intelligent comment please.

          1. TiT,
That is not Mary. It is Gigi. Once again, she has changed her name like she did from Natasha to Gigi when she made a fool of herself and does again. Hence the new name but same MO.
For fun, lets throw this one out there for Natasha/Gigi/Mary Jones to read, I Warned My Party About Biden’s Health. Will They Listen Now?
“If a relatively little-known congressman like me knew that Biden was incapable of leading the country in a second term, what does that say about the complicity of the real party bosses?”
            https://www.thefp.com/p/dean-phillips-warned-democrats-about-biden

        3. Ahhhhhhhhhh Mary
Ask Jake Tapper on of the biggest supporters of Biden. Heck he ever wrote about about Biden’s decline.
          Jezzz you are dumb

    3. | why Professor Turley is so one-sided and only writes about retaliation against Trump & Co.

Because Turley is a propagandist now instead of an objective analyst. This blog used to be an interesting oasis of legal analysis and its degenerating is quite sad.

  10. At 12:00 Anonymous posted this. “They seem to be more interested in using their trade show to promote cars built in their own country.” They call it an international trade show for a reason. There are cars there from all over the world. Canada is not just promoting cars made in Canada at the show.
2025 Corvette ZR1 is a highlight. The Canadian International Auto Show also showcases the Z06. So much for the claim that Canada just wants cars from Canada to be on display. Only someone who does drugs or alcohol could say something as stupid as Canada just wants to promote Canadian car manufacturers at the show. Please don’t tell her that you can find lots of information on the old Interwebb if you really want to be informed. What do we call people who refuse a means of education when it’s openly available? When you read a comment by this Anonymous keep this in mind that what’s shes saying is, we don’t need none of that there book learnin on this here blog.

    1. TiT,
Thank you for the laugh!! Yes, that anonymoron really stepped in it with that leap in logic.
Notice how they are only focused on the Tesla aspect of the good professor’s column and ignoring the woman who assaulted a 72 year old man for wearing a MAGA hat? They seem to be missing the good professor’s point about how these people are getting “triggered” by what once would of been even a consideration.

  11. In Other News: Vancouver International Auto Show Announces Winner of Top Prize

The Vancouver International Auto Show today awarded its top prize to the 1963 Trabant model 601 from East Germany.

Show director Reinhard Von Hess said today, “Trabant is the car you WILL like, and you Will drive it if we allocate it to you. That is, if you obey. We know because we are watching. Nothing say freedom like driving Trabant”

    1. @Darren

Appreciate the candor, even if the subject is so serious. At any other time in history, it would be viewed as ridiculous. Thanks. We can’t let the bas**ds get us down.

    2. I like the coupe in beige. Really clever relying on gravity. No fuel pump needed. Think I’ll get one.

  12. Jonathan: It seems the whole world hates Elon Musk and his cars. Could it be because he is a racist, a backer of the neo-Nazi party in Germany and supporter of DJT’s authoritarian rule?

Speaking of Nazis here a history lesson. Hitler falsely claimed the Sudenten Germans were being oppressed and persecuted by the Czech government. It was a lie. But in 1938 Britain and France capitulated and allowed Hitler to annex Sudetenland.

Similarly, Musk and billionaire Peter Thiel, another S. African transplant, have been pushing the lie that white S. African farmers have been subject to “genocide” by the S. African government. Musk was able to convince DJT of this lie who just allowed 59 white South African farmers to immigrate to the US as part of their propaganda campaign.

These false claims were a back drop when DJT met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday. With Musk standing there in the Oval Office, DJT held up photos and a video purportedly showing the mass killings of S. Africans. There is only problem with DJT’s claims. They are false. The photos and other articles DJT held up showed humanitarian workers lifting body bags in the Congolese city of Goma–not in S. Africa!

But DJT wouldn’t let his false claim go. He persisted in his whitesplaining: “Now, this is very bad. These are burial sites right here. Burial sites of over 1,000 white farmers”. But by the end of DJT’s false diatribe he appeared to lose interest as the S. African delegation explained that white farmers were not being killed in mass numbers by the government. DJT chose to deflect by returning to his favorite deflection–calling the press incompetent idiots.

Now why would DJT push false conspiracy theories about S. African farmers? For the same reason Hitler pushed the lies about the Sudeten Germans. If you repeat a lie often enough some people will begin to believe it.

      1. @Upstate

And indeed, another nobody judge has blocked Trump from revoking Harvard’s bad policies.

This is getting beyond absurd, and it’s pretty dang clear we are dealing with a regime that will simply not accept their loss of power, ever. They seem to think it is their birthright.

I have not seen our system weaponized to this extent in my lifetime; these people are flipping crazy. Anyone that voted for Obama in 2008 (myself included) should be ashamed (and I am). It was the beginning of the worst mess we’ve ever seen in this country. I have zero doubt Obama’s cabal and its useful idiots were running things from 2020 onward, and they will simply NOT relent. See it for what it is: madness.

        1. So true! How DARE a university get to decide who they enroll. Trump should decide who gets to go to college. And then he should get to decide what they read too. It’s long past due!

          1. Visas are administered by the federal government, not the schools. With any luck, legislation will be introduced to severely restrict these visas.

            1. NICE – YES! No more foreigners to our Universities. THAT will show them! Oh no – you know what I just remembered? Approximately 35% of American Nobel Prizes in the sciences were awarded to foreign-born scientists. Specifically, 35% of the 410 academic Nobel laureates were immigrants to the United States. This indicates that foreign-born scientists have made a significant contribution to the U.S. Nobel Prize haul. Oh well – SCREW SCIENCE.

              1. Brain drain really is an epidemic. We shouldn’t steal the brightest minds from around the world. How inconsiderate.

                1. OMG you are SO RIGHT. I forgot how we have had a systematic system of kidnapping foreign kids and putting them into collegiate science programs here. How could I have overlooked that?!?!? No – it absolutely could NOT be the case that we used to attract the best and brightest from around the world because we invested heavily in scientific research and promoted academic freedom to explore unique ideas. No – it’s always been the kidnapping system. My bad.

                    1. These foreign students are the best and brightest–WHY would we want to shun them? The US has always welcomed the best and brightest from around the world because they give us an advantage in medical research and all kind of other fields, which has resulted in the US being a leader in medical and other types of research. But, France has said that if the best and brightest are rejected by the US–not just students but scientists Musk has fired–they will be welcomed in France, given all of the laboratory equipment, staff, supplies and other support needed to conduct their research–and then–guess what? The US will lose the advantage in multiple fields of endeavor, like biomedical research, cancer research, medical devices, and other sciences. This is just a stupid idea. Here are just a FEW of the accomplishments of Harvard Medical School before 1960: smallpox vaccine, treatment of: puerperal fever, appendicitis, research into: anesthesia, insect-born illness, scurvy, heat-killed vaccines, the EKG, insulin, heart valve surgery, hip fracture nail, iron lung, test for syphyllis, overactive thyroid, osteoporosis, intracellular fluid and electrolyte replacement, corrective heart surgery for babies, burn treatment, blood bank protocols, emergency response protocols, the PAP smear, Rh disease, artificial kidneys, heart valve surgeries….the long list continues.

        2. What I hope is happening is that every time a judge engages in judicial overreach, a team of people is composing legislation that will either codify the EOs or amend existing legislation. The next Congress should be VERY busy.

          1. YEAH YEAH – and then another group of people could be formed to go find those judges and give them atomic wedgies! YEAH!

    1. Hey Dennis McIntyre. Right from Genocide Watch. Genocide Watch specifically cites a failure to prosecute murderers who targeted white farmers, which it says contributes to a culture of impunity as the general murder rate remains high. In other words there are no repercussions for murdering a white farmer in Africa. You being Dennis McIntyre I can understand your being in favor of white farmers being murdered and no prosecuted for murder in South Africa. You go girl.

    2. Marxist-Splaining: while I agree that the President should not have brought up the issue during a public meeting with Ramaphosa,

there is indeed the serious fact of white farmers being stripped of their lands via race-hate legislation, some of them brutally killed—killing inspired by your kind of histrionic sensationalism of victimhood, thereby sanitizing murder, and it’s been going on for years.

Nevertheless, there is the fact that mainstream news [as in the Biden disability cover-up so amply clear now] only tells you what you want to hear (politically). Your marxist-splaining politburo won’t report certain things to you, like the South African murders of white farmers who are truly in fear for their lives, and if they don’t report it, it doesn’t exist, right? Can’t you see how these gaps and “lapses” of information keep you at everyone’s throat in the name of a misdirected, ignorant and emotional, counterfeit-justice.

  13. I do not doubt that these people, ‘live in terror every day’, but it’s the self-manufactured terror of their own small minds. I acknowledge that life would be hell for someone so self-tortured. That has no business in the rule of law. These people are not. Well. We cannot give the reins of society to people that are *literally* insane. We saw how that worked out from 2020-2024. Enough.

    1. #9. That which is old, becomes new again. 2020 to 2024, was assuredly a return to American leadership from the three blind mice, or three stooges, running an auto-pen signatory scam, however I would say that our global society today appears more akin to that of the middle ages, less that of our enlightened technology, of course, which gives a dozen or more tyrants on the planet a button to push and put an end to the entire world in just over fifteen minutes.

“Thou dost not know, my son, with how little wisdom the world is governed.”
      Count Axel Oxenstierna

  14. How about that, the employer of the trolls on here is being investigated by the Feds. Whatever will Dennis, Gigi, George, Ralph de Moron, etc do for income, work at Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in Washington DC to groom children?

“FTC Investigating Media Matters Over Allegations Of Collusion With Advertisers”

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has opened an investigation into Media Matters, a left-leaning watchdog journalism organization.

The FTC began its probe Wednesday into the Democrat-aligned organization behind studies on hateful and antisemitic material on X, two people familiar with the matter told The New York Times (NYT). The regulator reportedly sent a letter to the entity saying it was investigating it over allegations of unlawfully working with advertisers.

Reuters obtained the FTC’s civil investigative demand Thursday. The agency sought information on any communications Media Matters may have had other entities investigating ‘misinformation’ and ‘hate speech’ online and in media, naming the World Federation of Advertisers’ (WFA) Global Alliance for Responsible Media, according to the document.

  15. Let me get this straight. The Nazis said every Jew must die and the students at Harvard say from the river to the sea which means that every Jew must die in the process yet we have posters on this blog defending Harvard for encouraging an intifada. WOW.

    1. Their “globalize the intifada” rhetoric just led to the vile murder of two young innocent Jews in Washington DC. IOW, it’s going according to plan.

        1. Harvard, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Princeton . . . and every woke university in America, which is most of them. They have all played a significant role in “globalizing the intifada” and engaging in antisemitism, harassment, property destruction, assault, and more in the name of Jew-hating.

  16. Well, well, well.
Apparently the Canadians are not interested in importing Teslas that are built in a foreign country.
They seem to be more interested in using their trade show to promote cars built in their own country.
Obviously, as many have noted here, this is a leftist, communist, fascist plot to undermine the United States economy.

But perhaps there is another simpler explanation.
Perhaps they think that it is better for their balance of trade to limit imports from foreign countries.
Perhaps they want to penalize the importation of foreign built products.
Perhaps they would like to promote the production of goods in their own country, rather than rely on imports.

Does any of this sound familiar to you MAGA morons ????
    Probably not.
You are just a mindless, brainwashed bunch of cultists incapable of rational thought.

      1. Dustoff,
Quite right. Here we have leftists doing stupid and crazy things that no rational person would do. Then they try to justify their stupid and crazy. If I saw a woman in the grocery store with pink hair, wearing a T-shirt saying something about “trans rights,” it would never occur to me to get into a argument about “women’s rights,” or assault her. Just like I would never attempt to force someone over on the road and then punch them for driving a particular car.

      2. Dustoff

How exactly is it hateful to point out that Canada may simply be doing PRECISELY what the Trump administration is doing to stop imports from certain countries.

Your response is simply a meaningless pre-programmed response from a brainwashed MAGA automaton.
No higher cortical functions were engaged in your response.

    1. Don’t let the title “International Car Show” fool you into thinking that there are cars from other than Canada.

      1. J G Gordon

        So what !!!!

        It’s THEIR show.

They can pick and choose what cars they want to promote.
Obviously they prefer to promote cars from FRIENDLY countries, rather than countries who attack their way of life and try to dictate how they should manage their own affairs.

        1. J G Gordon didn’t deny that they had the right to pick a deceptive title. That’s the kind of thing you tyrannical leftists do. We conservatives are able to point out your hypocrisy and deception without sinking to your lows.

          1. oldman

Half of the manufacturer displays are from Asian countries.
There is absolutely nothing deceptive about the title “International”.
They simply chose to eliminate ONE manufacturer from an UNFRIENDLY foreign country, in favor of manufacturers from more FRIENDLY countries.

Unfortunately, the brainwashed MAGA cult is incapable of rational thought.
The hypocrisy and deception is actually on your part with this stupidly inane comment.

            1. So, anon, you’re saying Canadians are for waste and fraud? Musk was updating an archaic system with huge waste and fraud. Ok.

              1. This comment is a classic example of tangential thinking that drifts off into some loosely associated topic to arrive at an absurd conclusion.
The comment is a result of disturbed cognitive functioning.
This is most commonly seen in people suffering from schizophrenia and/or bipolar disorder.

Which of these disorders do you suffer from.
                Perhaps it is both.

            2. Anon – That’s the answer you should have given to J G the first time. Instead you took a childish attitude of “so what they can be deceptive if they want to.”

Now you’re changing your tune to say the title was not deceptive. Can you see the difference?

              1. What an absurdly stupid comment.
I never said anything about a “deceptive” title until YOU and JG brought it up.

In my comment I said, ” Obviously they prefer to promote cars from FRIENDLY countries.”
Obviously, if the cars are from OTHER countries it must be an “international” show.

Somehow in your twisted, addled MAGA mind you make an absurd inference about my comment to come to an equally absurd conclusion that I am making a claim that they can use a deceptive title if they want to.

                Are you hallucinating ??
                Are you mentally ill ???

I never “changed my tune” about anything.

                1. She said the title was deceptive, and you responded, “So what, it’s their show.” If you don’t believe me, re-read your own comment.

You’re trying to walk that back now by selecting a different part of your response. But it’s all right there in black and white for everyone to see. And all your ridiculous hysteria about my *correctly* summarizing what you said doesn’t change things.

    2. wow Forest Gump would be proud! Stupid is as Stupid does!. If your point was valid no other car manufacturers who didn’t produce vehicles in Canada would be allowed at the show. Not the case. F-Y Cannada.

      1. Rick

As a mindless MAGA cult automaton, you unsurprisingly completely missed the point of my comment.

My point is that Canada may simply be exercising their right to pick and choose which manufacturers to promote.
They are simply choosing to promote imports from FRIENDLY countries who do not impose ridiculous tariffs on Canadian exports to their countries, and also try to dictate how they should conduct their own affairs.

    3. I guess that it really is true, you can’t anonymous and smart/eloquent/rational/toughtful at the same time. Once the “Cloak of Anon” is donned, then any & all itelligence regresses to the mean of the human condition because the character that makes one unique and not anon evaporates into the ether. The cult of Anon is now so pervasive in all humanity because that poignant intellectual opinion that anon cherishes so much and has to share widely, should not be constrained by one’s own cowardly identity.
That would just take away from the impact of its brilliance!

      1. mquattro

Is this incoherent gobbledegook supposed to mean something.
Or has your brainwashed MAGA mind simply short circuited and is now spewing out random disconnected words and thoughts.

        1. Ano
Is this incoherent gobbledegook supposed to mean something.

          Sounds just like you. Enjoy

  17. The left is suffering from self conceit, and daily in every aspect of life, they show their disdain for those that don’t abide by the childish notions. They remind me of bratty children who run amok yelling I wanted that candy, or this or that, and become unruly stomping their feet and in some cases harming themselves or others physically or emotionally. They the Left, are out of control and are pushing society to the brink of disaster.

    Leftist Puritans: unhappy tyrants.

Trying to find the reasons for the lefts utter stupidity I was reminded of a quote of some years ago by Sir Isaiah Berlin:
“There exist a great chasm between those, on one side, who relate everything to a single central vision…and, on the other side, those who pursue many ends, often unrelated and even contradictory….The first kind of intellectual and artistic personality belong to the hedgehogs, the second to the foxes.”

    1. OldManFromKS,
If it were not for the fact they are prone to real violence such as attacking people for driving a particular car or wearing a particular hat, it would be amusing.
However, as they continue to normalize and even justify their hate and rage induced violence, they will only ratchet it up more and more. The good news is to most sane and normal people, this kind of behavior is off putting and only highlights how far the modern Democrat party has fallen.
Did you notice the woman who attack the elderly man, her hair in her mug shot?

      1. Upstate – their unhinged rhetoric has now led to the murder of two innocent Jews in Washington, DC. They are as vile as the day is long.

        1. OldManFromKS,
Well said. And there are some nutjobs out there who think that terrorist is a hero. Just like those nutjobs who think stalking and killing some CEO with a shot to the back of his head is a hero. Vile is right.

    2. Perhaps “the charts” have never seen a private individual do so much damage to the federal government and, in defiance of conflicts rules, enrich his own companies in a short amount of time,

      1. ^ More Elon derangement. Cutting fraud waste and abuse with a $37 trillion debt constitutes “damage” (when much of the $37 trillion debt is in fact due to so much fraud, waste and abuse).

Only in loony-tunes world. Only in the certifiably insane world of the American Left. These people are either completely psychotic or they are shills for the Chinese Communist Party which wants to drive America into bankruptcy.

      2. Perhaps “the charts” have never seen a private individual do so much damage to the federal government…

Given the fact our federal government has put this county $35 trillion in debt, flooded our country with 20+ million illegal immigrants, weaponized agencies against our citizens, destroyed public education, provided aid, comfort & billions in military hardware to the Taliban, put us in endless wars, and negotiated us into a $125 billion trade deficit; it’s about time someone had the big balls to damage the government and stop the damage they were doing to the rest of our country AND throughout the world.

        1. You’re right Olly, but the person to whom your comment is addressed is not rational or sane.

    3. I agree. I feel so bad for him. Like sometimes at night, I just worry that he’s lost, you know? I mean – growing up white in South Africa must have been so hard on him, and then he had to move here and tolerate Trump. Man he really did not like him – remember when he said Trump “didn’t have a character that reflected well.” And then he quit being on Trump’s advisory councils in 2017 when Trump pulled out of the Paris Agreements saying, “Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world.” Poor Elon. Maybe even he doesn’t know what he believes in.

      1. Trump pulled out of the Paris Agreements.
        ***********************
What a joke. How much has China reduced in emissions.

    4. Musk is against the left’s principle of waste and fraud and the richest man in the world causing a smidgen of envy and Jealousy because he’s not theirs.

  18. This might your greatest post ever, Mr. Turley. I’m so grateful someone has finally had the courage to correctly identify Mr. Musk as being the maligned and wrongful “victim of political violence” as you say! I mean, what does a multibillionaire who bought a president, dismantled countless humanitarian projects causing thousands of death, reignited racism in South Africa, and propped up a neo-Nazi party in Germany have to do to get a little respect – or at LEAST get invited to an auto show! Such a worthy cause for you to champion Mr. Turley!

    1. Take it easy.

Trump can always exercise his constitutional right to ‘habeas corpus’ deport Canada. .. lock, stock and barrel.

*Musk, and DOGE, has saved enough money to buy a Golden Dome.

    2. So it is Musk’s fault that white farmers in Africa are being cut to pieces. You’re just fine with condoms for African men being paid for with your tax dollars. The humanitarian aid is being scrutinized and if justified it is being transferred from USAID to the State Department where it belongs and not disappeared all together. Your people are dying BS is a false virtue signal. The amazing thing is that you continue on when you know the real truth but you ignore it. You also told us that Trump peed on a bed in Moscow, the Hunter laptop was Russian disinformation and Covid came from bats. Continue on. You have spent a great deal of time revealing what kind of a person you are. Thank you for your post.

      1. Think

The part that cracks me up. Anyone can Goggle the violence in SF and even see blacks have had enough of white people being murdered.

      2. No no no – I AGREE with you! I think USAID was a massive waste of my hard-earned tax-payer money!!! What I just can’t figure out is why Marco Rubio supported it SO MUCH. This is what he said in a 2017 speech. “Foreign aid as a part of our overall budget is less than 1% of the total amount the U.S. government spends. I think it is important for those of us who believe in global engagement and believe in the function of foreign aid to justify it, to never take it for granted.” In 2018 he wrote a letter to Rex Tillerson who was Secretary of State then saying, “We believe it is critical that USAID continue to play an active role in providing technical assistance, education and training to support countries’ efforts to strengthen electoral systems. USAID’s democracy and governance programs are vital for capacity building.” So maybe Li’l Marco is corrupt?!?!? I don’t know – I don’t trust that guy. He was REALLY critical of Trump not long ago. What do you think?

        1. Simple.. Like most of us. We had no idea how much was waste… But now we know.
Jezzz was it really that hard.
