“I Make Choices”: Chuck Todd Slams Hunter Biden Interviews as Bad for Democrats and Biden

Screenshot/Youtube

This month, the public has witnessed the mainstream media at its very worst in circling the wagons to deflect or dismiss the new evidence on how government officials, including President Barack Obama, laid the foundations for the Russian collusion hoax. However, the most telling admission may have come from Chuck Todd on the mentality of many in the media. In denouncing the decision to interview Hunter Biden, Todd lamented how the coverage was bad for the Democrats and the Bidens. He then declared, “I make choices,” which is precisely why he was widely criticized for bias as a former Sunday show host. His “choices” often seemed to run in favor of one party.

I have been a long-time critic of Todd’s for his slanted questioning, open bias, and misleading coverage (here, here, here, here, here, and here).  He used his position to denounce investigations into the Bidens while giving false accounts of conservative court rulings.

Now, he is irate over the Hunter Biden interviews last week. What is telling, however, is that he is not lashing out at the content but the fact that the media interviewed a figure who proved so damaging for the Democrats and President Biden.

Let’s take a step back for a second. Hunter Biden is news.  He was at the center of a massive influence peddling scandal, the subject of a controversial presidential pardon from his father, and recently accused of exercising inappropriate control over his father as president. He was also a key witness on his father’s alleged mental and physical decline in office.

By any measure, he is news.

Yet, Todd is irate that he was given a platform after it backfired on Democrats, including suggesting that his father was on Ambien. The profanity-laced interviews made headlines around the world, but Todd felt that the media should have prevented the public from seeing them.

On his podcast, Todd declared:

“I will never book Hunter Biden. Number one, he’s not the candidate. He wasn’t on the ballot. Anything he says in defense of his father, I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but it doesn’t matter. He’s a son defending his father…I have a real problem with the folks that are booking him. If you’ve chosen to book Hunter Biden, you’ve chosen to book spectacle. You’re not interested in – and you know, the two interviews that have gone viral were both designed to get attention, not to surface new facts, not to give you a better understanding of what may have happened. It was just, ‘Let’s give him a platform to settle some scores that maybe he wants to settle.’…I don’t think this does Hunter Biden any good. I don’t think this does Joe Biden any good. It certainly doesn’t do the Democratic Party any good. That’s why it’s surprising to see the former DNC chair start a podcast and decide that the best way to market it is Hunter Biden.

…It’s a choice who you book. I make choices. Everybody makes choices. It’s a choice who you book. If you’re putting Hunter Biden on, you know what you’re doing. Look, I think there’s a lot of things going on there.”

Todd could argue that he was merely noting that one of these interviews was conducted by a former head of the DNC, who should have known it could backfire on the party. However, the two interviews produced real news from an insider in the White House. Nonetheless, Todd felt that the two interviews should have been scuttled.

That was the signature of Todd’s journalism. He routinely chose to conduct interviews with a heavy slant in favor of Democratic talking points or slamming Republicans. He is still advancing that type of advocacy journalism in slamming interviews that were newsworthy but bad for the party and the Bidens.

In these interviews, Hunter Biden gave his own account of his father’s mental and physical conditions while suggesting a previously unstated cause for the former president’s disastrous debate performance. Todd would have prevented the public from hearing that account because he “makes choices” for them.

When Todd was called to account for misleading clips, the network shrugged and blamed it on editing that was “inadvertently and inaccurately” performed.  His choices included running clips that were widely denounced as misleading. Conversely, he would conduct interviews with figures like Hillary Clinton without asking about breaking news on her campaign, secretly funding the Steele dossier despite earlier denials.

During my two contracts with NBC, I had the honor of working with Todd’s predecessor Tim Russert. Tim was the ultimate professional and honest journalist. He would ask probing questions of all sides and pursued the news regardless of its potential political impact for either party. I respected him greatly for his integrity and his intelligence.

NBC’s former political director, Todd brought a different approach to the chair. He would often use questions to make statements like asking whether Trump supporters “just want to be lied to?”  However, when it comes to Democrats, Todd would prefer to make choices for them in refusing to air news that was bad for the party, as he did as host on Meet the Press.

It is all part of Chuck Todd “making choices.”

  1. MAGAverse is desperate–now, they’ve got Turley calling Russian collusion a “hoax” (despite the BIPARTISAN Senate Intelligence Committee Report confirming that Russian hackers DID help Trump and collude with his campaign). Turley is trying to make the case that it’s DEMOCRATS who are desperate. The self-inflicted Epstein scandal Trump brought on himself will NOT go away, and no amount of deflection will help–not even releasing the MLK files from the Hoover era, falsely accusing Obama of being guilty of “treason” or trying to deflect away from his involvement with Epstein by demanding that people stop talking about the Epstein scandal and pivoting to accuse Bill Clinton of wrongdoing.

Today’s piece is just another daily affirmation for the disciples, who lap up the attacks on Democrats and other spin MAGA media puts out to try to deflect away from inflation going up, tariffs already causing prices to go up, even though they haven’t kicked in fully, Trump getting instantly fact-checked and being made a fool of by Jerome Powell when he falsely accused him of cost over-runs on the Fed building by adding the cost of a third building that was completed 5 years ago. And, then, the Epstein Scandal. Trump can try to downplay his yearslong friendship with Epstein, well-documented with still and video evidence, all he wants to, and he can sue the WSJ to try to prevent his lewd drawing and note with the hint that he knew exactly what Epstein had been doing with underage girls from being released, but ask yourself–WHY is he so desperate to keep the American people from seeing the file AFTER promising to release it and claiming to be anti “deep state”? If there was nothing there other than the birthday greeting and lewd drawing, he wouldn’t fight so hard–but there’s obviously plenty there–involving well-connected and wealthy people he cares about more than his MAGA base, and whom he’s trying to protect, as well as information he can use to leverage for donations to Republicans, votes in Congress, selling his latest crypto or other benefits. Then, there’s Trump himself–who is on record bragging about grabbing women by their private parts, who bragged about kissing women he finds attractive, who bragged about going backstage at beauty pageants when he knew contestants were not dressed, the E. Jean Carroll verdict, the facts involving Stormy Daniels and his 34 felony convictions, and the other women who have accused him of groping them. Is it a stretch to think that where there’s smoke, there’s fire? FBI agents have been pulled off of cases to work 24-7 to sanitize the Epstein files of references to Trump–ask yourself–WHAT”S THERE that he’s so desperate to hide, and is it OK that he’s trying to hide the truth?

Trump REFUSED to rule out pardoning Maxwell, which would be a slap in the face to the court, the jury that convicted her, the FBI, the prosecutors involved, but mostly to the child victims that she helped recruit and whom she sexually assaulted herself. If he pardons Maxwell, MAGA has to ask itself–is it OK for there to be a two-tiered justice system in which those who aren’t wealthy, well-connected or powerful go to prison for sexually molesting underage girls, and a different system for those who ARE wealthy, well-connected or powerful, who not only don’t get prosecuted, but who have law enforcement actively working to prevent the truth about their vile behavior from coming out? Just HOW FAR does devotion to Trump extend?

    1. ..new masked troll named appropriately ‘Anonymous’ sitting in for other trolls on vacation.. Your first sentence is completely false and it’s all downhill from there. WHO pays you to write trash that is not even remotely, intellegently put together? NOT ONE THING you have said is Factual or Accurate… I just hope u r aware of how Delusional & Pathetic your TDS statements are, or else you may be worse off than Sleepy Joe, Hunter & Todd all blended together….

    2. That Bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee Report was based on the same pack of Brennan-Comey lies that are currently at issue in the Obama Treason scandal. The Epstein fandango is meant to deflect away from the once in a century Obama Russiagate scandal. Democrats will sacrifice 100 of their own Nonces who were undoubtedly Epstein courtiers to protect Obama, their progressive messiah.

      1. From “The Washington Examiner”– a MAGA publication:

“Senate Intelligence Committee members, including some Republicans, are standing by their panel’s findings on “extensive” Russian interference in the 2016 election despite new allegations from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard that the Obama administration “manufactured intelligence.”

The 2020 bipartisan report, released in several tranches over the course of a year under a GOP-controlled chamber, concluded that Kremlin-backed efforts to sway the United States election for then-candidate Donald Trump did not affect vote-tallying or involve the Trump campaign but still occurred.”

  2. The Marxist Democrat trolls seem desperate today. Perhaps this is why:

    1. @oldman

Huh. 1990. Bush senior was no paragon, but what happened in 1993? Gee, I wonder.

The part that is the challenge is that younger people do not know any world but the one the Clintons and Obamas in tandem with Soros and the globalists created whole cloth, from the White House, to Congress, to the news, to education (we have no idea how lucky we are to have stopped this in its tracks for now). Turning that tide is going to be a challenge, indeed, but we have to do it. And by all accounts, it’s what the people actually want. Let the years of our actual desires for our lives being hijacked be a thing of the past.

  3. NATO is complying with Trump’s demands that they spend more on defense. There is a steady stream of world leaders making their way to the Oval Office for an audience with Trump to secure trade deals. The Sunni Arab nations are giving him state welcomes that have never been seen before for an American president. India and Pakistan agreed to deescalate a potential nuclear confrontation because Trump intervened.

And some namby pamby little rag in Scotland runs an unfavorable headline, and that leads to brainless idiot Democrat trolls in this comment section suggesting Trump is not respected around the world. Why, oh why, can’t an intelligent Democrat ever comment on here? Why do they always have to be morons? Are there any intelligent Democrats left in the world? I’ve been waiting for proof for a long time, and I’m still waiting. Instead, they spend their days pushing for male genitalia in girls locker rooms and showers, defunding the police, sexually mutilating little children, and waving Mexican flags in the streets while destroying American cities.

    1. “Why, oh why, can’t an intelligent Democrat ever comment on here?”

Because, at least for the moment, “intelligent Democrat” is an oxymoron?

    2. On Sunday, in Scotland, Trump humiliated himself by proving just how ignorant of world affairs he is–he even threatened the head of the EU and whined that the starving people of Gaza hadn’t thanked him personally for the aid sent there. He is NOT welcome anywhere in the British empire. The claim that there is a “steady stream of world leaders” just dying for an “audience” with Trump is laughable–more MAGA propaganda to deflect attention away from multiple scandals that include his drubbing by Jerome Powell last week–in which he accused Powell of allowing a several billion dollar cost over-run to renovations of the 100 year old Fed building–only to find out that his crack staff of “the best” added a building built 5 years ago to the bottom line of the long-overdue renovations to the Fed building. This was to try to set the stage to oust Powell because Trump doesn’t have the authority to do that except for malfeasance, so he tried to cook up some malfeasance–but he got fact-checked in real time and made an absolute fool of himself. This came after his rant about how stupid “Biden” was for initially appointing Powell–something that is not true–Trump appointed Powell–Biden just re-upped his appointment. Trump just keeps hoisting himself by his own petard and then tries to deflect attention away by falsely accusing Democrats of misdeeds. AND MAGA media goes along, all the while trying to accuse mainstream media of bias and misreporting, dredging up the Russian scandal, that Congressional Republicans are NOT backing down from, releasing salacious and unproven accusations against MLK and an accusation that Obama engaged in “treason”. None of these deflections is working–one thing most Americans, regardless of their political affiliation, agree on is that the full, unredacted (except for identities of victims) Epstein file needs to be released.

But, there’s the Epstein scandal and efforts by Republicans that reinforce the argument that we clearly DO have a two-tiered justice system–one for the wealthy and well-connected and one for everyone who is NOT wealthy and/or well-connected. Since the statute of limitations has run on any Epstein-era crimes, WHY did Trump send Todd Blanche, his criminal defense attorney, to FL for a meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell OTHER THAN to try to get her to gin up some lie to benefit him? Ghislaine Maxwell has already been indicted more than once for perjury–and given her heinous crimes against children that are detailed in the criminal and civil complaints against her, she has NO credibility–even with Trump supporters. What kind of a woman would use her gender to help lure underage girls to be sexually assaulted by her boyfriend, and even participate in the assault? Even Speaker Johnson said, on “Meet the Press” that Maxwell deserves life in prison.

And WHY did he have Kash Patel put FBI agents on 24-7 shifts to try to sanitize the Epstein files of references to him? WHAT IS HE HIDING? He can’t truthfully say that Epstein wasn’t a friend for several years–there are too many pictures and videos proving this isn’t true. Considering the civil judgment that found that Trump sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll, the 34 felony convictions for trying to cover up his sexual escapades with Stormy Daniels, his bragging about sexual assault and numerous women who claimed he groped them, it’s not a stretch to conclude that there’s evidence that Trump may have been directly involved in sexual conduct with minors, AND that he’s got the FBI and DOJ working on trying to cover up the truth about this. WHY not release the lewd drawing referenced by the WSJ and have multiple, disinterested handwriting experts evaluate the signture for authenticity?

      1. Eggs scrambled on the floor,
        Ideas flowed under the door.
        Sense took a sudden slip—
You’re hilariously mixed up, you dip!

      2. “WHY did Trump send Todd Blanche, his criminal defense attorney, to FL for a meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell OTHER THAN to try to get her to gin up some lie to benefit him?”

Blanche is the Deputy Attorney General, not Trump’s “criminal defense attorney.” Nice try, though.

Why does the Left keep evading the fact that Maxwell was investigated by Trump’s FBI, and indicted by Trump’s DOJ?

        That was a rhetorical question.

    1. This idiot doesn’t realize that what he presented as factual was totally “fake,” corrupt, meaningless, and entirely bereft of weight or force, so much so that the defendant went on, not to suffer a legal penalty, but to become the President of the United States of America.

Your abject inanity and stupidity is a violation of the Civility Rule of the Turley Blog.

      BAN FOR LIFE!

    2. Did you know that the grooming of the mentally-deranged is happening globally? Did you know that loss of respect for America has been forged in the extreme-left’s own sabotage and national malfeasance?

Traitor-Anon, if you were a true American, you’d condemn that paper and its Anti-American fomenting, rather than crowing about it. Shame on you.

  4. In Scotland, fish shops are providing bags of fish guts to throw at Trump.

Wonderful example of how America is now respected in the world

    1. It has nothing to do with Scotland or America being respected. It just shows that no matter where you go in the world there will be stupid, evil people.

A better barometer of America’s respect internationally is what NATO and the Sunni Arab nations are doing. They are basically all now embracing Trump, complying with his requirements (NATO nations spending more money on defense), and working with him for economic advantages (Arab nations).

But then, I suspect you already knew all that. You just posted your silly, childish garbage because you’re a stupid little troll.

      1. “It has nothing to do with Scotland or America being respected. It just shows that no matter where you go in the world there will be stupid, evil people.”

Sure, there are stupid peiple everywhere. This is a indirect response to trump being an A$$. They are showing their disdain of the President of the United States. So much for respect. trump just sent respect of United States into the gutter.

          1. Ahhh!!!
So you want our allies to fear us, and our adversaries like Russia to befriend us.

            Makes sense for MAGA traitors.

            1. You —-ing idiot communist!

They allied with America precisely because they feared America.

              Fear is good!

        1. @Anonymous

European countries that still genuflect can take their opinions of us and blow. This is nothing new, they resent us, ever since we told Britain they were a bunch of inbred and entitled clowns and all people deserved better, and always have resented that we have actual, real freedom in this country, and it has indeed always been so (people under 40 might be puzzled by this, as they have never actually learned anything whatsoever, and have never been pushed in real life to garner that learning). I fail to see the negative in your ‘insight’.

Who cares? I predict that in the future we are going to see record numbers of Europeans attempting to immigrate to the USA again, the way we did with people in Eastern Europe or the USSR in the 80s, because their home countries have gone off the rails and are doomed to fail thanks to their own capitulations, cowardice, and stupidity. Nothing in this scenario represents strength. Your point is, on the hilarity scale, an ’11’.

I give precisely two sh**s what the EU thinks of me or the way I choose to live my life, and given that our single country is the size of their entire union: who needs ’em? Not us, not me. They can work out their drama on their own time and dime, they have made their choices, and actions have consequences. Enjoy eating crickets and not having heat in the winter, EU, and the Earth will be just fine without us; your hubris shows again. Everything the modern left does is about self-preservation of their own personal status quo and nothing more or less. Pfft. Free people do not share their panic.

  5. The profiles of Russert and Turley are somewhat similar: baby-boomers: grew up in somewhat declining big northern cities; legal educations with an interest in politics; Irish Catholic backgrounds; parents involved in Democratic Party activities. But most importantly, they both seem to have drifted rightwards as they observed the political scene at close range.

    1. I think what you say is true but there’s also another factor at work: the Democrat party has lurched sharply leftward and has left erstwhile Democrats who still have some common sense and logic without a home. As that has happened, Trump has remade the Republican Party into one centered on improvement for the working man and woman. He has eschewed free international trade for an America-first agenda that has the blue collar worker in mind. There’s no better reflection of the reality of that shift than the fact Sean O’Brien (Teamsters Union boss) spoke at the RNC convention last summer.

      1. @oldman

Given the younger, radical, contingent whose influences range all the way from Che Guevara to Fidel Castro, who is to blame? They raised their kids, in whatever capacity that qualifies. They believed an Ivy League stamp of approval somehow meant anything whatsoever about their kids in the real world, which is populated by other humans no better or worse. The last thing on earth a modern leftist will do is take any form of responsibility for anything whatsoever.

      2. *. The lower class grew up as orphans as mom and dad both had to work. That’s the root of the dysfunction seen in these generations. They raised themselves. The economy killed the nuclear family, perhaps?

  6. Professor, thank you for this story that brings to focus a key point in journalism. Frequently what is most important is not what is said or printed but what is left unsaid, not written, or unmentioned. Who can forget that bastion of unbiased, and up until now publicly funded, journalism loftily stating via a 2020 pre-election tweet by Terence Samuels, then NPR managing news editor, “We don’t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don’t want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions.” His choice reflected the choice of all most all major news outlets of the day including the supposed “newspaper of record” – the New York Times. Censorship by choice is (and has been) an everyday occurrence. The only long-term antidote is a free market of news organizations.

    1. “Journalism” and “Chuck Todd” in the same sentence?

      Can you say psychoanalysis?

  7. (Todd lamented how the coverage was bad for the Democrats and the Bidens. ) Didn’t he mean to say that speaking the truth about democrats and the bidens were bad for all of them?

  8. It strikes me that approval or favorability ratings for Chuck Todd and Hunter Biden don’t exist, for all practical purposes, and that this discussion is pointless and moot.

  9. Seriously, what is wrong with handing an uncontrolled microphone to the “Crackhead in Chief” who mirrors a significant swath on the democrat party. Todd is the only one who recognized it as a threat to everything he holds dear: The democrat party’s sweaty, slipping grip on America’s information pipeline.

  10. So the President of the United States is possibly a pedophile and JT brings up Hunter Biden. How predictable was that? Deflection much. Hunter is an A$$, inappropriagte things were done. There was credible evidence that Russia wanted trump President in 2016. Looking into what they did was an appropriate response. Indeed we know that Russia did do a disinformation campaign. They did hack the Demo files and the Demos were indeed despicable.

Maybe JT has been in a time buble and hasn’t realized it just yet but Biden is not President, neither is Obama. And even if Obama did illegal stuff. The SC has already spoken that a President can do anything and not be prosecuted for it. Remember that little bit?

The current President, trump, is possibly a pedophile. He certainly cavorted with a convicted pedophile. Ep[stein was at trumps wedding. Valid pictures of a happy trump with a happy Epstein are real. trump is quoted as saying what a great friend Epstein was. And there were rich powerful people that are also suspected Pedophiles. What is trump hiding? Why is JT so concerned with 9 years ago when today we have a president protecting suspected pedophiles?

    1. Sources also said that the files are voluminous. There are 22 files containing over 500 pages in the FBI vault, a portal on the FBI’s website accessible to the public. The bulk of those 11,000-plus pages are heavily redacted, and Justice Department prosecutors have fought their release for years…. One critical source of evidence against Epstein was in the discovery for a Florida civil case brought by Epstein’s victims against the FBI in 2008. That case spanned a decade and included tens of thousands of pages of material that sheds light on how federal prosecutors mishandled that early case. Not all the FBI documents connected to that case — or the federal criminal case — in Florida have been made public.

    2. Pedophilia is sexual attraction to prepubescent children.

Please educate yourself so you look less like an ignorant stooge.

      1. “Pedophilia is sexual attraction to prepubescent children. ”

Language revision/corruption alert. I recently invested in a copy of Webster’s New International Dictionary Second Edition (C. 1934), for access to word meanings prior to (most of) the intentional attempts to corrupt our language as a means for undermining our society. According to that dictionary, pedophilia is:
        ‘a. Love for children
        b. (Psychopathology) Erotic desire of an adult for a child”

Clearly, the second meaning is what is under discussion here. Since the application of “adult” and “child” wrt criminal conduct relied (and relies) on legal definitions, I contend that “pedophilia” as an accusation properly applies to any adult desiring, and/or acting upon, the desire for sex with any person under the age of legal consent.

  11. Everyone, in any field, makes choices every minute. So Todd is correct in saying he makes choices. But the nature of those choices is the thing. By complaining that the Hunter interview was a bad choice, in the sense that it was bad for Democrats, Todd is just saying out loud what apparently everyone knew: The MSM’s primary function is to spread propaganda for Democrats, to help Democrats win elections. While the lack of discretion in saying that out loud is perhaps noteworthy, it doesn’t really divulge any information we didn’t already know.

  12. Dear Prof Turley,

Chucky ‘cheese statistics’ Todd is absolutely correct for a change.. . in retrospect, that the media has ‘interviewed a figure who proved so damaging for the Democrats and President Biden.’

If you love President Trump, you can thank Hunter Biden. .. you’re welcome.

It remains to be seen whether, or not, President Biden’s pre-emptive, card blanche, pardon of Hunter Biden et al can, or will, withstand the tests of time. .. the slings and arrows of the laptop from hell notwithstanding.

With all due deference to the President, even the Unitary Executive Authority cannot pardon loyal subjects for crimes that have never happened (ie. pre-crime).

*do you know where the Epstein files are, or not?

    1. DG
Todd is absolutely correct for a change.. . in retrospect,
      ____________________________
What e total line of BS. Todd has been lying for so many years.
I loved the part Biden has no mental issues. then writes a book about his mental issues.
      Do better DG.

  13. I think Tim Russert helped to lose the second term of President Bush senior by giving Ross Perot so much time and credibility. Compare that to the time and questioning of Ralph Nader.

    1. Zander.

Please not Ralph. Talk about an ambulance chaser. It’s total lie about the Corvair.

      1. ” It’s total lie about the Corvair.”

Absolutely correct. The Corvair had issues, alright, but not the handling behavior that Nader lied about. GM made a p1$$ poor copy of a Porsche engine design, cutting corners for production cost savings. The result was an engine with ~221 (iirc) difficult/expensive-to-replace oil seals just waiting to leak. Of course, damaged engines and high repair costs cannot compete for PR drama with the idea of cars spontaneously flipping and killing occupants.

Addendum: Not content with that, GM repeated their mistake a decade later with the Vega (I owned one of those), except this time it was an M-B engine they copied badly. M-B gave their in-line aluminum engine cast iron cylinder liners. GM decided they could omit that expensive step by casting an aluminum block with micro chunks of silicon in the alloy, then etching away the aluminum in the cylinder bores, leaving the pistons rings riding on silicon only. Interesting theory, nearly complete failure in practice.

  14. OT

    BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP

No legislative body passes a law to support a crime or to provide criminals with the power to confer rights, freedoms, privileges, or immunities.

The Framers of the 14th Amendment understood that no illegal alien would be allowed to enter the country illegally.

The Framers of the 14th Amendment understood that no illegal alien would be allowed to enter the country to give birth.

The Framers of the 14th Amendment understood that no illegal alien would be allowed to enter the country to confer citizenship.

    1. Anonymous – The Framers of the 14th amendment understood alot of things – illegal immigration was not high on their list. At the time the US had near open borders.

Large numbers were NOT entering the country legally – because they could enter the country legally.
People were not coming to give birth they were coming for a better life – just as they do today.

We should return to the situation in 1865 when immigration was moPstly easy and legal.

Though you do not address that – lots of things have changed since then.

Today the people of the US are entitled to an enormous number of unearned benefits.

In the mid 19th century this was all called charity and handled privately – not an entitlement doled out by government.

Nor were people entitled to a minimum wage, or protected from discrimintion.

This was the era of “No Irish need apply” – and the one group that the US actively blocked from immigrating – the chinese.

Today people come to the US for the same reasons they always have, and we should vet them as we did in the past – barring those who are not healthy or who are criminals, or who are likely to become public burdens.

Charity should be handled as it was in the past – by individuals, organizations, churches and communities – not the government.

If you enter the US – legally or otherwise, unless you are in the employ of a foreign govenrment – you are “subject to the jurisdiction of the US” – if you commit a crime, you will be arrested and prosecuted. If convicted you may serve time and be deported, or just be deported.

That is what the 14th amendment CLEARLY means and has for 200 years.

In much of europe that is not true – and their immigration problems are much worse than ours.
They have far more problems asysimilating foreigners into the country

A part of what Makes America Great is that anyone has the oportunity to succeed here.
      Even immigrants.

I am happy with most of what Trump is doing regarding immigration – but leave birth right citizenship alone – it is an asset not a liability for the country. It means that from the moment of your birth – THIS is your HOME – that YOU are american, and that YOU ARE one of he lucky ones who is a citizen of the greatest country on earth.

Children of illegal immigrants did not earn that priviledge. Neither did you or I.

We need to enforce the immigration laws that we have – we need to end illegal immigration.
But we need to make legal immigration easier and more common.

And we need to end the moral hazard that accompanies entitlements – whether for citizens or non-citizens.

      1. Read John Eastman on the subject – he is one person that lays out why you are clearly wrong.

        1. Is that the attorney John Eastman who was disbarred because of his ridiculous interpretations of the Constitution?????

          1. And President Donald J. Trump was convicted of 34 felonies, right, comrade?

And yet there he is flying on Air Force One!

      2. Judges continually claim the power to “interpret,” that is, to effectively amend statutory and fundamental law.

Judges may safely “interpret” or amend the Citizenship Clause to exclude criminals, their fetuses, and their babies.

Your opinion, while eminently valuable, has no bearing on law.

“We need to enforce the immigration laws that we have,” you wrote, but you deny support for much valid and legitimate historical legislation based on your opposition.

A court may safely “interpret” that:

        – All acts subsequent to the original crime are similarly invalid, illegitimate, illegal, and criminal.

        – The Framers of the Citizenship Clause presumed that laws against illegal border crossing would be enforced.

        – The Framers of the Citizenship Clause presumed that the amount of illegal border crossing by pregnant females, if any, would be infinitesimal and wholly insignificant.

        – A birth by an illegal criminal is similarly illegal and criminal.

        – The child of an illegal alien is similarly an illegal alien.

        – Pregnant illegal aliens and their fetuses and babies will be deported.

        – No criminal act may generate a benefit or be rewarded.

        – No criminal has any power to confer citizenship.

        – An illegal alien fetus-cum-baby is subject to the same jurisdiction as its illegal alien mother.

The good thing about being obtuse is that we don’t know that we are obtuse.

      3. Oh, h— yes! Invasion, conquest, and population replacement are great things!

Of course, ALL PATRIOTS, past and present, are chomping at the bit to give their country away.

        Can you say intuitive?

      4. “Today people come to the US for the same reasons they always have, and we should vet them as we did in the past – barring those who are not healthy or who are criminals, or who are likely to become public burdens.

Charity should be handled as it was in the past – by individuals, organizations, churches and communities – not the government. ”

The second statement should be applied to immigrants, and to native citizens as well. End unconstitutional entitlement benefits to all. If immigrants come knowing they have to earn their own keep, we will be gaining worthwhile, productive new citizens. Let everyone who is already here (native born and immigrant alike) who is unwilling or incapable of earning their own keep arrange to be maintained by private charity. If no such charity is willing to support them, let them feel free to emigrate to one of the collectivist/socialist paradises that so many of them (and their political lords) seem to adore.

  15. The “mainstream” media has lost so much of its audience to the new media that does it still make sense to call it mainstream? Isn’t it now just a cultural backwater? Nobody I know watches it, which is the opposite of 30 years ago. And how long till Chuck Todd (whom I have never watched, thankfully) gets Colbert’ed by NBC?

In other news Maxwell was given limited immunity yesterday and answered questions for nine hours.

    1. Nine hours is a lot of talking, on a sudden. .. the DoJ must be making up for lost time!

*do you think Ms Maxwell knows anything about Trump frequenting that house of ill repute?

      1. do you think Ms Maxwell knows anything …

I think she knows a great deal. As for your premise that Trump frequented some unspecified “house of ill repute,” if there was any evidence to that effect, the “Joe Biden” administration would have shouted it from the rooftops every day for four years. That’s the one obvious truth people who want to maliciously slander Trump never come to grips with.

        1. “ That’s the one obvious truth people who want to maliciously slander Trump never come to grips with.”

Again, this is the new troll tactic. Say anything at all no matter how unfounded or slanderous, as if it was true, then have people waste their time responding. Don’t take the bait. Just laugh.

        2. Poppycock. Joe Biden doesn’t know what day it is, and you know perfectly well what house of ill repute I am referring to. There is extensive photo/video public evidence of Trump living it up there over the years. .. and that’s just what we know about.

Ffs, Trump was banging cocktail waitresses two-at-time at club 51 when he first met Epstein. Iirc, a salacious image Trump actively cultivated during the late Disco period.

*the only obvious truth here is that criticism of Trump’s outrageously ostentatious rich-playboy lifestyle .. . is not the same thing as support for genocide Joe’s auto pen.

          1. Snowden – Your comment is both foolish and slanderous. You are sliding into a very dark place. I recommend for you own good that you try to reverse course.

            1. Old man – in mythology, as well as theology, the truth is often compared to light, freedom and knowledge. An intellectual reality that has no place or time.

    2. The older generations still cling to their nightly news broadcasts at 6 and 11. And what news they do get from other sources may be facebook or a local news platform which could be just as slanted. (I know we have a local online news source up here in Northern NY and it is just a prog/left platform because 99% of their “news” articles are pulled from the British Daily Mail – now why would that be?). As we boomers age out the mainstream media will fade with us.

    3. “The “mainstream” media has lost so much of its audience to the new media that does it still make sense to call it mainstream? Isn’t it now just a cultural backwater? ”

Nee proposed acronym: “SSM” for “Septic Stream Media”?

  16. Thesis: “[W]hen it comes to Democrats, Todd would prefer to make choices for them in refusing to air news that was bad for the party, as he did as host on Meet the Press.” First of all, that’s the precise definition of propaganda….

But, what’s most interesting, and amazing!, about “democrats” strange admissions of “truth,” their new alignments with facts, is that these CHOICES are actually lurches toward renewal by eating their own tails, thinking the “honesty” of self-examination will bring new life to the party—and it just CAN’T because one kind of lying just leads to another kind of lying. It’s all disingenuous. Tails are not good food, but they make good dog-chews.

    1. @Dianna

Yup. And the only insight they seem to glean is they simply need to lie better to get back in power so they can resume their horrific agenda, hopefully to them, more permanently next time and by whatever means necessary. The entire modern left is rotten from top to bottom.

      1. @James, you have summed up the thesis quite well. The takeaway is tha,t no matter how much the extreme-left tries to seem fair and readjusted, the top-to-bottom rot cannot be changed or even merely-sanitized. What is is correct word for that state of being? Putrefaction?

    1. Interesting theory. It does make sense, but I wonder if Hunter’s drug-addled mind could have even thought of that.
