JPMorgan Executive Identified and Fired in Trash Can Viral Video

The viral video of a woman stealing a trash can and dumping its contents after the Knicks’ victory has led to her termination.  Angie Baez, 40, was the “Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement for Card and Connected Commerce” for JPMorgan Chase. She was shown in a video dumping trash on the ground to steal a Knicks-colored trash can after the NBA Finals. JPMorgan apparently concluded that this was neither the publicity nor the type of Community Engagement they are seeking.

The videotape of the incident shocked many by Baez’s cavalier attitude, not just in stealing the trash can but in dumping out the garbage.

The New York Post later reported that the woman had been identified as Angie Baez. She previously served as “Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” at The Infatuation, a website that reviews restaurants and neighborhood activities.

Once she was identified, JPMorgan Chase issued a statement, “This employee is no longer with the company.”

We have often discussed the difficult questions surrounding the termination of employees for speech in their private lives that is considered harmful to an employer. Whether it is conduct or speech, private companies often reserve the right to terminate any employee who brings negative attention to the company, even when they do not reference or display an association with the company. In today’s web-savvy world, it does not take long for motivated individuals to learn the identity and associations of public figures.

We have seen companies fire employees for drunken displays and abusing others in viral videotapes. There is little recourse in such cases, particularly for at-will employees.

In the case of Baez, she falls into the same category as Adam Smith (not the economist), who made a fool out of himself at a Chick-fil-A.

Ultimately, Baez was not even allowed to keep the trash can. She was also given a $75 fine for littering and a $100 fine for impeding Department of Sanitation operations. That proved to be an expensive memento for the Knicks victory.

NB: This blog column was updated with the news of the later fines issued to Baez.

  1. Now she can finally land her dream job of emptying trash into the back of a dump truck.

  2. She was fined for littering and impeding sanitation operations. I guess the 2nd part is trash can theft.

    Wherever they go
    ruin follows.

  3. I would almost certainly find this to be the least offensive thing she has done when compared to her career. Who hasn’t done something stupid in the heat of the moment? I have friends with posters, glasses, etc. that were stolen. I never stole, but there are certainly things I did that I am glad were pre-cell phone. One of my travel stories I like to tell – I was with a friend in Europe, Belgium has a beer glass for each beer (brand/type) meant to accentuate to qualities of the beer. My friend stole every beer glass he was given (and some mine). He had a large bag of beer glasses. When we arrived in Munich for Oktoberfest, we walking through the train station when the handle broke. The sound reverberated throughout the cavernous station. I pulled a Nelson (Simpson’s reference). Great story and I am sure he is glad there is no video.

That said, every policy this lady has implemented at JP Morgan, I am sure I would find inexcusable and offensive. She should have been fined for this, but that is all.

  4. if they can fine churches for the actions of a priest
then we should FINE companies for the ACTIONS of the SCAM they employ

  5. Whomever said that you can’t judge a book by the cover is wrong 99% of the time. The 1% of the time that I’m wrong I chalk up to statically insignificant.

  6. It was dumping all that trash out on the street for others to clean up that doomed her.

She would have been forgiven by the public if she’d stolen $5,000 shoes. An affluent person making a huge mess for sanitation workers to clean up, so she could steal a trash can she could have bought online for $165, offended too many people.

    1. You can see where the base of the trash was sitting among trash on the street. It is typical of NYC. trash can full, throw your trash on top and let it fall to ground. She made it worse, that is all. Every New Yorker could be fined multiple times a day – and most tourists – for throwing trash in a full trash can that ultimately ends up on the ground. She should have been fined. NYC is a shithole and the department of sanitation is a big reason why. It will get worse, I bet she gets hired by mandami.

  7. Firings In The News

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stonewalled a behind-the-scenes effort within the Army and on Capitol Hill to extend the career of an influential general.

Gen. Christopher Donahue, head of U.S. Army Europe and Africa, will leave his role on July 2 after an unusually brief 18-month tenure, these people said, some speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters. Hegseth’s move has exasperated some Army officials, considering Donahue’s background as a highly regarded Special Operations commander and the secretary’s stated focus on making the military more lethal.

The general’s expected departure makes him the latest apparent casualty in Hegseth’s purge of senior military leaders whom the secretary has deemed insufficiently loyal to the Trump administration or branded “woke” for their past defense of diversity initiatives.

Hegseth has fired or otherwise removed dozens of generals and admirals, often without specifying a reason.

    ……………………………………

This purge of generals may explain why we couldn’t defeat Iran. Getting rid of Captain Hegseth would probably make more sense. No general worth his stars is likely to put Trump above country. And that’s the real problem here.

    1. Your disrespect is loud. I believe I read somewhere he was a major. What rank were you? And where were your tears when Obama fired dozens of flag officers?

    2. In what world do you think you are owed a job ?

We did “defeat” Iran – they are not capable of engaging in disruptive conduct and will not be for many years.

Why does anyone need to explain any of this too you – are you just another clueless left wing nut vandal that dumps trash all over, defaces national monuments and steals things – or do you actually pay a tiny bit of attention to the real world ?

We have done $1T is damage to their country – nearly all of that to the leadership, IRGC and Bassij forces that are terrroizing their own people.

The 400+ kg of enriched uranium is buried under 300 meters of crushed Rock that they will not be able to get to for years.
Nearly all their centrifuges have been destroyed. Their 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier leadership has been killed – including most of their nuclear and missile scientists and engineers,
80% of their missiles and drones and the industrial base that makes them has been destroyed. over 70% of the launchers. The entirety of their navy – including the fast boats have been obliterated. Their ability to support terrorist proxies outside the regiion has been nearly eliminated – Hezbollah is withering on the vine – because they can not be resupplied by Iran, and because Irael is destroying them – WITH THE HELP of the Lebananese govenrment – Lebanon has been a failed state most of my life, the elmination of Hezbollah brings about the real possibility that Lebanon can return to being a prosperous and functional country.

Further the entire Gulf region has been united with the US – and even more importantly Israel to crush and contain Iran.

And we have done all this and more with almost no US Cassulaties – More US soldiers died in Training accidents or of natural causes in the US during this conflict than were killed in the mideast. Fewer US servicemen were killed in a significant kinetic action against an enemy than were killed in Biden’s botched withdrawl from Afghanistan.

I have paid little attention to this “peace deal” – because it does not matter – the straits of Hormuz are open – should Iran try to close them – they will be met with more destruction. Likely they no longer have the ability to interdict shipping in the Gulf – regardless two US destroyers are stationed in the straights protecting shipping.
Iran has been unable to strike a ship in the gulf in weeks and millions of barrels of oil are headed to Europe

Iran’s ability to f45k over its neighbors is ended.

Iran can rebuild – but without the assistance of the US and the rest of the Gulf that will take decades – if they even survive. The unity of the regime has been severely damaged. There is significant infighting going on. They may well start killing each other. It is also possible that the Irainian military – which has NOT been part of this will get fed up with the severely weakened idiots making a hash of the country and stage a military coup – and then their is the already restive iranian people.

Part of this “deal” is that the US will not provide arms to Irainians – no deal and we start arming the iranians who seek to overthrow their government.

It is unlikely the current regime survives regardless – but certainly they can not facing an armed population.
Thus far the US has been unwilling to provide more than Moral support to the Iranian people.
As with Venezuella Trump does not want to Repeat Obama’s and Bushes mistakes in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.
He is looking to weaken the existing regime – not replace them – if that happens naturally and without resulting in chaos – fine, but he is not looking to create another failed state like Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, syria, or lebanon.

Regardless, Iran was in serious trouble BEFORE this conflict. They F$%Ked up their water system and only have 50% of the water they need. they had had to stop farming COMPLETELY and buy all food from foreign countries to make the water stretch. They have massive inflation – approaching hyper inflation and lots of Pi$$ed people

Even religious zealot do not stick with you when thney can not eat or drink and you have massively misgoverned.

      1. “We did “defeat” Iran – they are not capable of engaging in disruptive conduct and will not be for many years.”

Iran are continuing to be disruptive and it doesn’t appear they have stopped.

    3. Why are you here? “This purge of generals may explain why we couldn’t defeat Iran.” vacuous opinion

  8. previously served as “Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion”

Why am I not shocked, shocked I tell you?

  9. Is Lincoln’s Race War Finally Materializing?

“If these black soldiers of ours go back to the South, I am afraid that they will be but little better off with their masters than they were before, and yet they will be free men. I fear a race war, and it will be at least a guerilla war because we have taught these men how to fight… There are plenty of men in the North who will furnish the n—–s with arms if there is any oppression of them by their late masters.”

    – Quote of Lincoln in “Autobiography and Personal Reminiscences of Major-General Benj. F. Butler: Butler’s Book”

    1. leftoids trying hard to bring back the racism that put them on the map. Sorry dumbocrats, The USA is the least racist country on earth and a shining beacon to true human unity. Communism doesn’t stand a chance against the power and righteousness of individual freedom. Their need to crush humans to get/be in power cannot stand against any free human. Mankind has already learned the lesson that communism is oppression for all but the top.

  10. Parents in Brazil sentenced to prison for a homeschooling curriculum that didn’t teach radical gender ideology. Judge cited the fact that the kids like other kinds of music besides popular music as evidence that their education was deficient.

    https://www.ewtnnews.com/world/americas/parents-sentenced-to-prison-in-brazil-for-homeschooling-and-excluding-gender-related-content

This is what real left-wing tyranny looks like. You educate your kids at home, and don’t try to make them into little communist soldiers, and you go to jail.

    1. One of Mussolini’s first targets after King VE III appointed him PM was education. Brainwashing youth is vital to the success of despot’s plans for domination of a society.

      1. First edict of sovereigns after Columbus came back in 1493 forbade teaching natives in Americas how to read. With bonus forbidding transferring slaves from mainland Spain to Americas.

    2. Brazil has elections this year – Lulu is running against Balsanro’s son in a sort of rematch. Currently they are neck and neck.
But this time Trump is president – not Biden and Lulu will have less oportunity to steal the election.
Further his govenrment has done badly and pi$$ed peopel off – as you are noting.

    1. Here’s what’s new lefty, In Latin America, they have the leftist insanity finally under control. They need to adopt a US style Constitution to keep it that way. It appears “Make America Great Again” has finally spread to South America where the people thirst for the true individual freedoms our Constitution secures. Here, Trump! has drawn the line in the sand for us when he declares America will never be a communist country.
I know that truth upsets you – that’s why I said it. Get used to those individual freedoms of yours, thery’re gonna be around a long time.
and just let me add: Sorry commie!

    2. @Anonymous

That you even used that reference implies you are, too. Pot, meet kettle. 🙄🙄

  11. Why do you want people to be protected from the government but not from private entities?

    1. What are you, a kindergartener? Sheesh! Constitutional rights protect people from the government. The government has armies and people need protection from them, but private parties conducting business don’t. Moron.

        1. Why do you ask literally the stupidest questions ever cooked up by any moron no matter how stupid?

    2. Who’s letting their kids on this blog? this is for responsible adults, not children!

    3. The catechism of the left, for a decade now, has been ‘the Constitution (ie bill of rights) only protects you from the government, not private employers.’ So why the stupid rhetorical question?

      1. I do not know that is psecific to the left.

Regardless, rights need protection from ALL who would use FORCE to infringe on them.
The purpose of govenrment – the social contract – is that we cede our right to initiate force to government in return for protection against force used by others.

Rights are the near absolute protection of individuals from FORCE.
They are NOT bars against voluntary arrangements.

You are not required to buy a burger from McDonald’s – McD’s is barred from using FORCE by law and government.
You choose whether you want a burger and if so whether you will make or buy it and from whom – all voluntary.
You need and should not have “protection” for your free choices – beyond that those you come to agreements with freely are bound to honor those agreements.

There are no rights that protect you from anything EXCEPT force. You only have rights regarding private actors – if force is involved – and privately that is nearly always a crime.

  12. What you do off the clock on your own spare time is not the business of your employer.
The only way it could be is if you are their property.

    1. Well, we ALL made it our business and put her ugly ass on blogs and got her fired. How do you like it when we righteously cancel your useful idiots? Learn something: Break OUR laws and WE will punish you. Better shape up lefty.

    2. lol. It’s pretty clear from her behaviors and position, she was a check-the-box hire to shut whiney liberals. I’m sure Chase was more than happy to get rid of her as she added nothing to success of the company.

    3. You also have no right to a job. Employment is a voluntary arrangement – either party can terminate it at will. for any reason or no reason at all.

IF you have an employment contract – you and your employer are bound to the terms of that contract – such contracts virtually always include terms that allow your employer to fire you if you commit crimes – like theft or even littering – and also if you bring negative attention to your employer.

If you do not like that – do NOT sign an employment agreement with those terms.

      Good luck finding one.

Regardless your employer owes you nothing beyond pay for the work you perform. Just as You owe them nothing beyond the work you are paid for.
Both of you are free beyond that – and that freedom includes your freedom to quit and their freedom to fire you.

No one owes you a job.

      No one owes you anything.

A man said to the universe:
      “Sir, I exist!”
      “However,” replied the universe,
“The fact has not created in me
      A sense of obligation.”

  13. The law already forces them to associate with minorities that it might not want to associate with.
Why are some things protected while others are not?

    1. Gee, I don’t know. You know, the sky is blue, but grass is green. Why are some things blue but others are not? Moron
