Northwestern University has rescinded an invitation to Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. to receive an honorary Doctorate of Sacred Theology in June due to the controversy of recent weeks. It is a shame that the University focused on the fact of a “controversy” as opposed to the merits. Despite his spin, Wright’s words have been legitimately denounced and he appears intent on fueling the controversy to the considerable disadvantage of Sen. Obama. For a young woman named Rukhma, it may be a bit unclear what the United States is fighting for in Afghanistan, or certainly achieving at such a great cost in lives and treasure. Our Afghan ally continues to impose strict Islamic laws against woman in shocking abuses. In this case, Rukhma was taken across the border from Pakistan, raped and abused and then forced to watch as her 3-year-old son was beaten to death. In yet another outrage tied to India’s caste system, Madan Singh, 22, was arrested in Northern India for throwing a six-year-old girl into burning embers when he caught her trespassing. YouTube has pulled the account of popular anti-scientology channel “Xenutv1” run by Mark Bunker — just before it aired a long-anticipated three-hour interview with Jason Beghe – a film and television actor who recently came out against his former Scientology church. The church as been aggressively pursuing and threatening such sites under copyright laws to prevent the disclosure of material on the church. New Hampshire Superior Court Judge Patricia Coffey resigned after she was suspended for three years by the state Supreme Court for dealings considered fraudulent and dishonest by her colleagues. Coffey’s demise is tied to a fraudulent property transfer involving her husband, John Coffey was barred as an attorney over the controversy. A Pennsylvania mother, Diane Rose Adorante, 40, will spend as much as 23 month in jail for hosting a birthday party where Samantha Scheuring, 16, drank herself to death.
