“Reimagine New Jersey”: Newark Mayor Ras Baraka Shown in Video Supporting Farrakhan’s Racist, Violent Views

Across the country, Democratic leaders are resorting to what I have called “rage rhetoric” as supporters are turning to actual violence, including arson and other crimes directed against Tesla. In Hawaii, Gov. Josh Green (D) even reacted to Novak Djokovic playing tennis with HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. by hoping that he is hit in the head. However, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, currently one of the top Democratic candidates for New Jersey governor, appears to have gotten an early lead in this race to the bottom. In a video that has now attracted interest in his run for governor, Baraka gives a full-throated endorsement of the violent and racist rhetoric of Nation of Islam leader (and raging anti-Semite) Louis Farrakhan. “Content Agnostic”: EU Official Denies Anti-Free Speech Policies in Bizarre Letter to Congress

Congressional SealAfter returning recently from speaking at the World Forum in Berlin, I testified in the Senate Judiciary Committee and warned about the building threat to free speech from the use of the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA). House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan has taken up the issue and received a letter from the EU’s Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Henna Virkkunen. The letter is both evasive and deceptive. Rep. Goldman: The FBI Investigation of Tesla Attacks is “Political Weaponization”

For many of us who were long active in Democratic politics, it is becoming increasingly difficult to recognize the party as a new generation of foul-mouthed, censorship-supporting, mob-enabling leaders take over. That sense returned this week when Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-NY) claimed that the FBI investigating attacks on Tesla cars and facilities is nothing but “lawfare” and “political weaponization.” Goldman’s latest controversy captures how Democrats have now entirely cut the cords of decency and moderation that once tethered their party to the mainstream of our society. It is Not “Karma,” It is a Crime: The Curious Silence Over Political Violence in New York

Yesterday, there was a curious aspect to the coverage of the video of a woman attacking a young man for wearing a MAGA hat. Ignored by many mainstream outlets, conservative news sites described the woman as a “Karen” who got “karma.” The video below was viewed as a funny payback as the woman fell while chasing the man from the New York subway car. However, the incident is not karma but a crime. This is political violence perpetrated on the New York subway, and yet no one in New York seems to be calling for the arrest of this person. Turley to Speak at the National Press Club on his Book “The Indispensable Right”

I have the pleasure this morning of speaking at the National Press Club on free speech and my book, The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage.” The event with the Free State Foundation will explore the book’s discussion of free speech as a human right and our long struggle with the meaning of free speech.

“A New World Order With European Values”: The Unholy Union of Globalism and Anti-Free Speech Measures

Below is my column in the Hill on the recent World Forum where leaders gathered to declare “A New World Order with European Values.” Globalists gathered in Berlin to seek a new era based on European values that not only involve the expansion of transnational systems but the contraction of free speech rights.

Here is the column: Continue reading ““A New World Order With European Values”: The Unholy Union of Globalism and Anti-Free Speech Measures”

Davidson College Investigates Student for Speaking Out Against Palestinian and Transgender Positions

Davidson College officials have launched an investigation into a student, Cynthia Huang, the president of Davidson College’s chapter of Young Americans for Freedom. In two separate incidents, Huang spoke out against Palestinian and transgender claims.  In a disciplinary  letter, Mak Tompkins, Davidson’s director of student rights and responsibilities, wrote that she was accused of spreading “misinformation” that could foster Islamophobia and transphobia. Ninth Circuit Upholds California’s Ban on “Large Capacity” Magazines

In a decision that could well find itself before the Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld California’s ban on “large capacity” magazines. In a rare move,  Judge Lawrence Van Dyke offered a video dissent to the majority opinion. Continue reading “Ninth Circuit Upholds California’s Ban on “Large Capacity” Magazines”

McCaskill: Trump is Trying to “Disappear” People Like “his Buddy Putin”

MSNBC analyst and former Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill has long been criticized for unhinged rhetoric. That was evident on “Morning Joe” recently when McCaskill said that the deportation of alleged Venezuelan gang members was akin to Putin “disappearing” people. It is not the first such analogy by McCaskill, who has called those opposing the censorship under the Biden Administration “Putin lovers.” However, just for the record, Putin does not generally disappear people by putting them on flights back to their countries. He tends more toward nerve agents than immigration agents to remove people. Continue reading “McCaskill: Trump is Trying to “Disappear” People Like “his Buddy Putin””

University of Illinois Professor Prevails on Appeal Over his Use of Racial Slurs on Exam

Four years ago, we first discussed the case of Professor Jason Kilborn, who was investigated and punished for using a pair of racial slurs as part of an exam in his civil procedure course. I was critical of the actions of the John Marshall Law School at the University of Illinois (Chicago) as inimical to both free speech and academic freedom. Now, the United States Court of Appeals has reversed a district court’s dismissal of his free speech claims. The UofI will continue to spend huge amounts of money in fighting the protections for academics in their classrooms. It is not simply administrators wasting public funds, but spending public funds against the public interest.

Eat and Get Out: Two Traditional Press Dinners Adopt Hostile Positions Against Trump

As expected, the relationship between the Trump White House and the media resumed where it ended in the first term in outright warfare. The mutual disdain has become open contempt as was evident this week when, reportedly for the first time in its 140-year history, the Gridiron Club journalism dinner omitted the toast to the U.S. president. This follows the selection of a comedian for the White House Correspondent’s Dinner who promptly declared that no one wants Trump to come because no one wants to be in the same room with him. The media is doubling down on its identity as part of “the resistance.” In the meantime, the public is rushing to new and alternative media for their information. Celebrate Saint Patrick by Chasing Censors Out of Ireland

Below is my column in the Hill on truly celebrating St. Patrick on this holiday. Despite our shared history and values, the United States and Ireland are moving further apart on free speech. Ireland has followed the European Union in embracing speech regulation and censorship. If we truly want to honor the legacy of St. Patrick, we can start by honoring free speech. We need to chase the censors from Ireland.

Here is the column: Continue reading “Celebrate Saint Patrick by Chasing Censors Out of Ireland”
