Animal rights advocates (and virtually every other human being) are in shock over this video showing U.S. soldiers showing a puppy off a cliff for fun. Bloggers have allegedly identified the culprit as a David Motari, but this has not been confirmed by the military and there remains the identity of the other soldiers. It is also not the first such video of animal cruelty by our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This video has been racing around the Internet and shows two U.S. soldiers cooing over a cute puppy and then throwing him a great distance as the puppy is heard whining. This type of cruelty to animals would violate a host of military rules and could (and should if true) lead to a court martial. The question is whether the Department of Defense has investigated, as it should. This is something that Congress can do to force action. Inquiries from members about the video and identity of the soldiers would be enough to trigger an investigation.
Unless this is somehow doctored, these are obviously two soldiers who have no place in the service — particularly if they are (as it seems) stationed in the Middle East where we are trying to reduce any unnecessary use of force.

“In mid June 2008, CNN reported that Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, the Marine who had videotaped the event was disciplined and that Lance Corporal David Motari, who had killed the young dog, had been discharged from the military.”
Official Marines’ statement:
“Lance Corporal David Motari received Non-Judicial Punishment from the commanding officer of 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment and is being processed for separation from the Marine Corps for his role in the episode, which gained international attention March 3 after the video was posted on the Internet. Sergeant Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, also received Non-Judicial Punishment. The results of Non-Judicial Punishment are not releasable according to the Privacy Act. The Marine Corps conducted a thorough investigation as soon as it learned of the event and acted as swiftly as possible. The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated. The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties with honor and compassion that makes American people proud.”
The Marines also provided an example of a Marine saving a dog and other positive aspects in animal rights in their release to counter the disgrace who was diciplined.

There is no need to give such scum a death threat. The sheer guilt alone, plus the punishment that the Marines will give him, should suffice to teach this man not to disgrace his country. A soldier is supposed to defend civillain lives and property, and they are supposed to try their absolute hardest to only attack enemy combatents. Yes, civillians die, but our armed forces do not aim and try to kill them.
That man should be serving his country, not killing civillian property (poor innocent puppies). He deserves a strong punishment, preferably an honorable discharge.
Issuing death threats to this disgrace of a soldier is no worse than his action. He will recieve what he deserves. The Marines are very srtict and uphold high moral standards. I am fully confident that they will deliver a proper punishment onto this man. Hopefully, people will have enough intelligence to grasp that this is a sick act by one twisted man and does not reflect the attitudes or behaviors of the Few and the Proud.
Our military- including the Marines -are out there fighting for our freedom. They are not killing dogs. That disgusting act will surely not be repeated. That sick man should be discharged, or, at the least, recieve a face full of drill seargent or higher officer.
I can assure anyone who reads this, based on my knowledge of our military, that the soldier who threw the puppy over that cliff will not be a soldier for much longer.
The Marines do not tolerate such disgraceful behavior and will deal with it swiftly and properly.
I hate dogs with a passion, but even I agree that this is a horrid act. It would be bad enough for some stupid Internet troll to do it, but for a soldier of the United States do so is an utter, humiliating disgrace. I wouldn’t be angered if it was some tasteless video shot by a random kid in the backyard.
What angers me is that a soldier, who is supposed to be serving our country and protecting my freedom, had the gall to throw a dog off a cliff for fun.
The puppy thrower is a disgrace to the Marines, to his country, and to the Internet. The Internet often has low moral standards, but they were right to go to arms over this disgusting act performed by one of our men in uniform.
Whoever did this should be punished by the Marines, preferably by a court/court marshall, probably for the umbrella term of “conduct unbecoming of a Marine”. I hope he gets a dishonorable discharge, or something of harsh magnitude. He has shamed and disgraced our military, and it should not go unpunished. Men like this tarnish the reputation of our armed forces, and men like this deserve prompt diciplinary action. I believe that the Marines are doing something about it as we rant.

I have seen a post that the soldier said that the puppy was sick and that he didnt want the dog to die a slow painful death and instead of shooting it he was being creative that day and he said that back at camp there isnt medicine for animals but that still dosent give him the right to kill a small and defenseless puppy. Maybe he could have brough it back to camp and maybe there might have been medicine for the animal without him knwoing it.
