Meet Andy Martin: The Man Behind the Obama is a Muslim Rumors

The New York Times has an interesting profile of the man who is credited with fueling the false stories that Obama is a Muslim. What has been astonishing for many of us is that being a Muslim would even be an issue — even if it were true. What is even more astonishing is the man who has appeared on national television pandering this story. Andy Martin, 62, is someone barred from a court for frivolous lawsuits, barred from becoming a practicing lawyer for mental problems, and accused of hateful and antisemitic ravings in the past. He was just on Fox News as part of a story on Obama’s possible secret Muslim identity.

The Muslim rumor has been a consistent element in the campaign and was just a raised a week ago in a McCain rally. On Friday a woman told Senator John McCain at a town-hall-style meeting, “I have read about him,” and “he’s an Arab.” Mr. McCain corrected her immediately corrected her by saying that Obama is not an Arab but a “decent man.” For the video of the statement and the resulting boos, click here.

Of course, I would have been a bit happier if McCain did not suggest that being an Arab and being a decent man were not inherently conflicting terms.

But back to Martin, this is a remarkable piece of work.
When he prepared to run as a Democrat for Congress in Connecticut, his campaign committee papers listed as one purpose “to exterminate Jew power.” He has been a nuisance in the courts, on the campaign trial, and in various states, including a prior arrest for assault.

  2. Now this is scary–a christian website has “found out” about the plot by Fisher Price to inculcate badies into evildoing by using their, “Islamic Doll”. Allah, oops I mean Jesus, I am afraid and it’s almost Halloween!

    For your enjoyment…

“Some concerned parents have contacted the Mattel toy company with allegations that one of its dolls utters words which promote Islam.

The Little Mommy Cuddle ‘n Coo dolls are manufactured by Fisher-Price, which is part of the Mattel toy empire. However, a number of parents contacted the company when they heard the doll say these words: “Islam is the light.”

  3. The irony in this drips with acidic perversity. An anti-Jewish bigot is treated as a simple scholar merely trying to inform the public of Obama’s Islamic deception. Since no doubt a major hope is that Obama’s support for Israel will be held suspect, by supporters of Israel, does this mean then that Mr. Martin is an Israeli supporter? Can one be an Israeli supporter and a hater of Jews simultaneously? Sadly, I think that it is possible via tortured logic, but the irony of it is stupendous.

What is most disturbing though is the acceptance of a clearly disturbed Mr. Martin as a viable information source, by a major news network. While we all of course understand that FOX is a Right Wing Propaganda source, it does vaguely meet the definition of mainstream media. Mr. Martin and Mr. Corsi before him were initially treated as scholars by the MSM, although both had easily discernible history’s that destroyed their credibility.

While the facts of Pat Buchanan’s bigotry are clear and proven, he nonetheless can be vaguely defined as a pundit, as much as I can’t stand him. With Martin and Corsi all this goes out the window and their expositions become accepted discourse. However, perfectly reasonable people like Dennis Kucinich and even Reverend Wright are defined as wild eyed zealots, whose ideas are then declared beyond the pale. The greatest threat to American democracy is this constriction of political discourse.

Man JT you said a mouthful there–and really more about Fox News.

  5. Okay, I admit it.

Thanks to Lord Scalia, I now deem Political Elections to fall within the category of ‘Commercial Expectations.’

    Remember “His Election?”

    Vincent Bugliosi:

“Under Supreme Court rules, a stay is supposed to be granted to an applicant (here, Bush) only if he makes a substantial showing that in the absence of a stay, there is a likelihood of “irreparable harm” to him. With the haste of a criminal, Justice Scalia, in trying to justify the Court’s shutting down of the vote counting, wrote, unbelievably, that counting these votes would “threaten irreparable harm to petitioner [Bush]…by casting a cloud upon what he claims to be the legitimacy of HIS ELECTION.” [Emphasis added.] In other words, although the election had not yet been decided, the absolutely incredible Scalia was presupposing that Bush had won the election–indeed, had a right to win it–and any recount that showed Gore got more votes in Florida than Bush could “cloud” Bush’s presidency. Only a criminal on the run, rushed for time and acting in desperation, could possibly write the embarrassing words Scalia did, language showing that he knew he had no legal basis for what he was doing, but that getting something down in writing, even as intellectually flabby and fatuous as it was, was better than nothing at all. (Rehnquist, Thomas, O’Connor and Kennedy, naturally, joined Scalia in the stay order.)”

And while a tad non-sequitorial, I just love this quote:

“In yet another piece of incriminating circumstantial evidence, Scalia, in granting Bush’s application for the stay, wrote that “the issuance of the stay suggests that a majority of the Court, while not deciding the issues presented, believe that the petitioner [Bush] has a substantial probability of success.” But Antonin, why would you believe this when neither side had submitted written briefs yet (they were due the following day, Sunday, by 4 pm), nor had there even been oral arguments (set for 11 am on Monday)? It wouldn’t be because you had already made up your mind on what you were determined to do, come hell or high water, would it? Antonin, take it from an experienced prosecutor–you’re as guilty as sin. In my prosecutorial days, I’ve had some worthy opponents. You wouldn’t be one of them. Your guilt is so obvious that if I thought more of you I’d feel constrained to blush for you.”

  6. Alrightee.

Which one of you Tort mavens out there will explain how the torts of

‘Commercial Disparagement’ & ‘Tortious Interference with Business Relationships’ are completely inapplicable here?

  7. I think it is entirely possible that “John McCain is a wife beating transvestite and is engaging in witch craft”. This is of course only a rumor and it has the same believability of anything heard on Fox News. This is not only the insane banterings of a disturbed person, it is the lies of a distubed group of political operatives currently working at Fox News and in the White House and in the Arizona headquarters of John McCain.
