Getting Reich With Jesus: Rick Warren Calls on the Faithful To Follow Jesus With The Passion of Nazis

225px-pastor_rick_warrenA clip of Rick Warren from April 17, 2005 is making its way around the web on which the controversial preacher appears to call on the faithful to follow Jesus like Nazis. In the clip below, Warren cites the faith and commitment of young Nazis and suggests that Christians need to show the same passion. Warren was selected by Obama to give the Inauguration prayer for the nation.

The clip is from an event held at the Anaheim Angels sports stadium with thirty thousand Saddleback Church members. After nearly an hour sermon, Warren calls on his followers to show the same passion as shown by young Nazis in 1939 in the Munich Stadium when they used their bodies to spell out the words “Hitler, we are yours.” They then joined Hitler in a war that murdered millions and set the world on fire. Warren seemed to think that was the perfect image for his “Global P.E.A.C.E. Plan.”

In fairness to Warren, he did say that Hitler was evil and seemed to say that his followers took over the world do to their passion. Warren told the crowd: “moderate people get moderately nothing done.” The clip suggests that Christians need to show the same passion as those Nazis — though for a higher purpose than advancing the interests of the Führer.

Followers were exalted to do “whatever it takes” and Warren then introduced his ally Rwandan President Paul Kagame who would lead the first nation to embraced his P.E.A.C.E Plan. Kagame led Rwanda in its invasion of the Congo and his government was accused of helping Congolese warlord Laurent Nkunda, massacre civilians.

Warren gave his first PEACE prize to . . . you guessed it . . George Bush.

  1. Sad, really.

While most of us have been out having a life, this one is still here. Bleating away. Waiting to become sheeple stew. Snapping at the very hands of those who would fish them out of the soup before it boils over. But they’re just sheep. They don’t understand fire. Or that lovely smell is them and their rights seasoned with onion and carrots. Or that the old farmer who told them their dogmatic scree of incomprehension really wants to eat them and in fact built the fire and tricked the sheeple into walking into the pot in the first place.

I used to wonder what a person with Stockholm Syndrome sounded like.

    I wonder no more.

  2. we work for msnbc:

Thanks for the redundant post. We’ve been through this exact language 11 posts ago. But hey who are we to bother your screed with facts we’ve already considered.

  3. Don’t see the problem other than a few left wing goons trying to make it out to be a problem: Turely stop being a goon.

“In 1939, in a stadium much like this, in Munich Germany, they packed it out with young men and women in brown shirts, for a fanatical man standing behind a podium named Adolf Hitler, the personification of evil.

And in that stadium, those in brown shirts formed with their bodies a sign that said, in the whole stadium, “Hitler, we are yours.”

And they nearly took the world.

Lenin once said, “give me 100 committed, totally committed men and I’ll change the world.” And, he nearly did.

A few years ago, they took the sayings of Chairman Mao, in China, put them in a little red book, and a group of young people committed them to memory and put it in their minds and they took that nation, the largest nation in the world by storm because they committed to memory the sayings of the Chairman Mao.

When I hear those kinds of stories, I think ‘what would happen if American Christians, if world Christians, if just the Christians in this stadium, followers of Christ, would say ‘Jesus, we are yours’ ?

What kind of spiritual awakening would we have ? “

  4. Breaking Breaking!

Left wingers that never listened to the sermon are posting on the internet what someone says he said.

    Breaking Breaking!

Left wingers to lazy to listen to sermon themselves are getting all upset over what the huffington nuts say he said.

    Breaking Breaking!

Left wingers now say never mind, Warren never really said what they said he said.

  5. Joseph Connor is the son of one of their victims. He testified against Holder in the confirmation hearing yesterday. In “Terrorists killed my father,” Connor writes:

At the time of the [FALN] pardons, Eric H. Holder Jr. was deputy attorney general. In considering his department’s recommendation on clemency, he met with supporters of the terrorists but ignored their victims. He pushed staff members to drop their strong opposition to a presidential pardon for the FALN members and alter a report they had prepared for the president recommending against clemency. Today, although two turned down their pardons because they were unwilling to renounce violence, many of the convicted FALN members walk free. And a man who was instrumental in their release may become the highest law enforcer in the land.

  6. Professor Turley,

As the most conservative, atheistic, homophobic-leaning, and lifelong Republican ‘regular’ blawg member, I respectfully request that you remove irrelevant posts—especially those of the copy/paste variety.

Others and I admire your freedom of speech policy; however, the irrelevancy of the many back-to-back postings—reasoned or most often not—interrupts the logical continuity of the threads. Those incongruities also add unnecessary bulk to the database that causes a very slow loading of your blawg for those of us with slower ISPs. Furthermore, many of your intelligent regulars reply to the irrelevant posts—understandably so as needed rebuttal—but those comments add to the bulk and inconsistencies. I caution the regulars that when Professor Turley has rarely removed the most egregious posts, that often the commenter who replied to the ‘troll’ then appeared to have replied to someone else when the troll post was deleted, resulting in confusion and an intent opposite of what that person meant and referenced. Therefore, whether Professor Turley decides to remove irrelevant and/or egregious posts or not, it is best not to reply to the nonsensical trolls because that often appears to lend credence to what they write, eggs them on, and only adds to the confusion.

As evidence of how effective, informative, and entertaining this blawg can be, reread the tread entitled ‘I’ll Huff and I’ll Puff…Democrats Block Burris From Entering Senate’. Several attorneys who use their ‘real’ names gave very cogent arguments. One attorney stated, “This has been a very cordial discussion, and I have learned a lot. Thank you, everyone.” Such discussions exemplify the high level of quality with which this blawg is capable. There was only one “resident troll” who posted on that thread and he finally gave up posting because almost everyone ignored the posts. Similar cordial thread discussions are a major draw to this forum for those of us who want to learn, but particularly good discussions also draw the illogical ideologues who have nothing to add but irrelevant attempts to disrupt the logical flow of legal and nonprofessional arguments.

Contrary to this blawg’s effectiveness/fairness is the most recent example of one of the many thread posts submitted by disruptive persons illustrating the ineffective, uninformative, boring, and objectionable aspects of this blawg occurs within the ‘Getting Reich With Jesus: Rick Warren Calls on the Faithful To Follow Jesus With The Passion of Nazis’ posted today, Saturday, January 17, 2009. I will not give credence or recognition to the disruptive person’s nom de plume; rather, I ask that you and others review the postings to decide if my requests for minimal moderation are unfounded or unreasonable.

This is your blawg and you have demonstrated your complete and unbiased open-mindedness, especially when you are the brunt of unfair and baseless ad hominem attacks. Your acceptance is admirable and I usually ignore such attacks and the mindless verbiage accompanying those postings. However, every forum involving debate—and more so with one encompassing anonymous Internet commenters—requires some limits to ensure a modicum of decorum.

Please post a reply to my request for additional, fair moderation and whatever your reply entails—pro or con—I will never ask again. No ‘regular member’ objects to contrary opinions or attempted refutations of what we posit, or even the accompaniment of stinging humor that might show us the error of our ways. Most of us are here to learn about and understand—often from our mistakes, misunderstandings, or misinterpretations—the legal foundations justifying the pending or established decisions of law that, with justice or injustice, regulate our society and affect citizens’ attempts to thrive—or just survive—in this democracy.

  7. Hey Buddha, you gotta give them this much, that Snow White chick they hang around with is pretty hot!

As far as Rick Warren goes; relax. He is clearly a man of God. There’s nothing to fear. Relax…relax…….relax………..

  8. I can smell the troll fear. Nothing more aggressive than a wounded animal.

  9. The trolls are getting very aggressive lately. Now they are double teaming the site. It would be nice if they left town with Bush on Tuesday.
I agree with Mespo. This Warren character is a dangerous “minister”. The passion that he is extolling is the same passion that causes followers to kill doctors that do abortions. This is more than mere passion. This is the “passion” that controlled Sirhan Sirhan’s actions when he wrote over and over again Kill RFK. I would have preferred that Warren was not asked to participate in the inauguration, but I will be more concerned if Obama confers with this s0-called minister in the future while he is in office.

  10. HEY TURLEY, WERE YOU THERE WHEN THE SON OF A FALN VICTIM SPOKE OUT AGAINST HOLDER? WHY ARE YOU SO SILENT?

Eric Holder illustrates the dangers of ambition married to weak character. His subservience to the interests of Bill Clinton in approving the corrupt pardon of Marc Rich and the indefensible pardons of the FALN terrorists was a disgrace. His role in these pardons should disqualify him for higher office.

Holder himself does not defend his role in the Rich pardon. He concedes it was a mistake. He claims somewhat paradoxically that he learned so much from his mistake that he will be a better Attorney General. Holder makes no such concession or claim in the case of the FALN terrorists.

Joseph Connor is the son of one of their victims. He testified against Holder in the confirmation hearing yesterday. In “Terrorists killed my father,” Connor writes:

At the time of the [FALN] pardons, Eric H. Holder Jr. was deputy attorney general. 11. SO TURLEY, WHEN YOU GONNA BRING UP THIS 180 BY OBAMA ON MADDOW’S SHOW OR ARE YOU GONNA RUN FROM IT?

  12. ping:

“MESPO, YOU ARE SUCH A FOOLISH LITTLE MAN – BOY.”

    ******************

Good counter argument. Exactly what I expected!

  13. How about Obama doing a quiet little 180 on harsh interrogation! Think anybody on the nut channel MSNBC will report it? Naw.

  14. OBAMA GONNA TORTURE TOO!

    news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090116/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_interrogations

Obama advisers are considering adding a classified loophole to the rules that could allow the CIA to use some interrogation methods not specifically authorized by the Pentagon, the officials said. …

For Obama, who repeatedly insisted during the 2008 presidential campaign and the transition period that “America doesn’t torture,” a classified loophole would allow him to follow through on his promise to end harsh interrogations while retaining a full range of presidential options in conducting the war against terrorism.

The proposed loophole, which could come in the form of a classified annex to the manual, is designed to satisfy intelligence experts who fear that an outright ban of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques would limit the government in obtaining threat information that could save American lives. It would also preserve Obama’s flexibility to authorize any interrogation tactics he might deem necessary for national security.

msnbc paycheck is RIGHT! what a clown obama is!

  15. JT:

I was hoping you’d pick up this story. Delusion it seems is now speaking in the language of totalitarians. That should give all thinking people pause.

Here’s a little expansion on the pithy comments of the good reverend:

“In 1939, in a stadium much like this, in Munich Germany, they packed it out with young men and women in brown shirts, for a fanatical man standing behind a podium named Adolf Hitler, the personification of evil.

What kind of spiritual awakening would we have ?

What kind of awakening indeed? I am guessing the attire will include jackboots for these Christian soldiers.

  17. GOD BLESS REVEREND WARREN.

I am sure you would complain no matter what comparison he used, even if he said look at the organized manner of Army Ants, you would complain………..’cause that is what you do best.

  18. WOW!

    What A Joke!

Barack Obama garners this sort of headline: “Sources: Obama ready to ban harsh interrogations”:

President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to prohibit the use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques by ordering the CIA to follow military rules for questioning prisoners, according to two U.S. officials familiar with drafts of the plans.

Of course, there is one very big catch:

However, Obama’s changes may not be absolute. His advisers are considering adding a classified loophole to the rules that could allow the CIA to use some interrogation methods not specifically authorized by the Pentagon, the officials said.

Now, that’s “change you can believe in!” Obama’s hypocrisy on this issue is identical to John McCain’s. McCain denounced the Bush administration for “torturing” detainees. I disagree. I don’t think waterboarding is torture; on the contrary, I think it is the ideal way to interrogate terrorists because it is quick and effective and because it does not actually harm them. I see it as a humane alternative to much worse techniques. But that’s not the point, at the moment.

When McCain was asked what he would do in the “ticking time bomb” situation, where we have in our custody a terrorist with knowledge of plots in progress that may kill Americans, his response was that in that case, he would expect the President to do whatever was necessary. That is exactly the position Obama is now taking: we won’t torture detainees. Unless, of course, we need to!

In fact a total of three top-ranking al Qaeda terrorists were waterboarded, in the period shortly after September 11 when there was good reason to believe that they had knowledge of plots that were still active. This was exactly the “ticking time bomb” scenario where McCain has explicitly admitted, and Obama now implicitly agrees, “torture,” or harsh interrogation tactics anyway, may be necessary.

In short, Obama’s posturing is meaningless and politically motivated. His policy will not be any different from President Bush’s; he is just trying to score cheap political points. Obama is no dummy, and is acutely aware of the Bush administration’s extraordinary record of keeping us safe from terrorist attacks over the last seven years. He knows that his approval rating will sink like a stone if he exposes Americans to mass murder because of a foolish consideration for the comfort of terrorists. If and when the time comes, he will act exactly as George Bush did.

MR. TURLEY, PLEASE ‘SPLAIN TO YOUR HANDFUL OF WORSHIPPERS HERE WHAT THIS MEANS PLEASE………….

IT MEANS YOUR GUY IS GOING TO DO EXACTLY AS BUSH DID, AND I BET MADDOW & OLBERMANN DON’T SAY A WORD ABOUT IT…
