Drunken Commodities Broker Attempts to Set WTC Elevator on Fire in Escape Effort

200px-wtc7-2006-0911Ryan Brinkerhoff has a curious way to dealing with being stuck in an elevator. When he found himself unable to get out of the 40th floor of 7 World Trade Center, he decided the best course of action was to spray the interior of the elevator with cleaning fluid and lighting it on fire. The automatic system then forced the elevator to the bottom floor where he was promptly arrested.

It appears that arson seemed a much better option than the elevator phone or the alarm button.

Colleagues say that Brinkeroff was “horribly intoxicated” when he tried to navigate the elevators to the 34th floor where his firm was located.

The 24-year-old broker reportedly has a MySpace with the following self-description: “Raving. Mohawk. Lunatic.” No puffery there.

  1. Folks, am I the only one that’s under the impression that 7 WTC was imploded, I believe the date was 9-11-01, and hasn’t been rebuilt?

  2. Ishmael:

Buddha loves Obama in this thread and is insulting him another, I think he may be on pyscho active drugs to mask his shcizoid tendencies.

  3. here is a good piece by The Capitalist Pig (J. HOENIG):

“IN A PURELY CAPITALIST economy, politics and economics are, just like church and state, kept separate. Private individuals and corporations trade among themselves, with the government functioning as a referee, not as a player in the game.

Of course, since the Bear Stearns bailout, engineered by incoming Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, that’s all changed. Wall Street is gone, and Washington is running the economy now. Politicians supposedly know the “right” approach much more than us greedy, profit-hungry capitalists. In banking, insurance, and real estate, government is now the major player in the financial markets.

Numerous stories have surfaced in recent days about how certain financial institutions have received preferential treatment, not to mention our tax dollars, because of the specific actions of politicians lobbying on their behalf.

For example, the original TARP program was intended only to jump-start lending at healthy banks. Yet tiny – and troubled – OneUnited Bank in Boston got $12 million from the taxpayers thanks to the intervention of Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.), head of the House Financial Services Committee. Frank specifically pressured regulators to help the bank, which is located in his home state. Never mind the bank had been accused of shoddy lending and executive pay practices, including a company Porsche for use by its executives.

In Illinois, Democratic Reps. Danny Davis (D., Ill.) and Luis Gutierrez (D., Ill.) lobbied TARP czar Neel Kashkari provide direct financial assistance and loosen capital requirements to The National Bank of Commerce, a struggling Illinois bank. The request was ultimately denied and the bank failed earlier this Month.

In a real free market, thousands of independent, profit-minded individuals make judgments about whether or not a company deserves to be funded or not. They are incentivized to make smart decisions because, unlike TARP, it is actually their money on the line.

No more. As we pointed out last year, hundreds of billions of dollars are being burglarized by bureaucrats with zero accountability or skin in the game. Decisions are being made for political reasons, not economic ones. You’re telling me this is a better alternative to an actual free market?

Hardly. Because whereas once investors analyzed earnings, management and profit margins, now all eyes are focused on the back scratching and insider dealings in Washington, D.C., where politicians who don’t know much about banking are turning taxpayers into involuntary investors. In this new era, whether you get stimulus…or sucker punched, is totally up to them.”

  4. And Ishy? That whole “I am a God” complex/insult? Yeah, you Neocon trolls don’t get to say that. Not because Obama is my guy, he doesn’t fix what your lot has done – including prison time and asset forfeiture for your Neocon leadership – and he’ll be on my list too. You can’t use it because it’s the old “Pot Meet Kettle” scenario. In short, know your own psychosis before you start diagnosing others. It’s you bunch of morons thinking God is not only personally on your side but feeding you secret plays that got the U.S. into this mess. Not only stupid, but psychotic as well. But that was just an excuse for your greed, wasn’t it? And greed isn’t a mental illness (aside from odd affectations created by compulsion disorders). It’s evil. So don’t worry, we won’t buy into your excuses later that it is “temporary insanity!” We the People know what you are.

  5. “Ishmael” says: “Martha, how long do you think Obama and his team have until this Chicago investigation and all the other new revelations destroy his administration?”

I think Judge Betti would agree that talking to yourself in public is also a marker of madness!

  6. Obama sits in his bedroom staring in the mirror preening himself and saying “I am a God”. He is bizarre.

  7. rcambell, maybe you just don’t understand our God. He gave us all free will. He loves you so much he even gave you the free will to doubt him.

  8. rcambell, 90% of Americans pray to God for him to change things we cannot possibly understand. There is nothing wrong with it. Why do you hate God?

  9. Martha, how long do you think Obama and his team have until this Chicago investigation and all the other new revelations destroy his administration?

Judging by the crooks he is appointing (richardson, geithner, holder, clinton, etc) it seems his whole short 4 years will be turned into a mess.

Obama has proven he is no friend of the unborn, he is no friend of American since he wants to spend more trillions than any man on earth since time began.

I really believe Obama wants to hurt America as much as he can in his four years so we are a lessened power in the world. I believe he thinks the world would be better off with a weak America. It is a shame he is using such a wonderful God given talent to weaken his country. I would believe God is not very happy with him so far.

Obama also wants to allow our Israel to be destroyed. That is no secret. Look at how he told Israel they must stop destroying the terrorist organization Hamas that has rained 6,000 rockets down on Israel or Obama would turn on them.

  10. Dear God please bless Israel.

Dear God please bless President Bush

Dear God, please educate Barack Obama on the importance of protecting the unborn.

  11. ‘Mad’ is a term we use to describe a man who is obsessed with one idea and nothing else.

    –Ugo Betti

I promise to read all of your vindictive comments about a man who has not yet been given the chance to succeed, if you will read all of mine when he prevails. Deal?

  12. Rasmussen finds that 59% fear that “Congress and President Obama will increase government spending too much in the next year or two.”

Conversely, only 17% worry that they will cut taxes too much – lol.

This suggests that the seeds of the Republicans’ resurgence have already been sown.

Congress will indeed spend far too much money, increasing the federal deficit to ridiculous levels.

Before long, the monetary and fiscal policies now emerging will lead to wealth-destroying and income-eroding levels of inflation.

As long as the Republicans in Congress stick to their principles and oppose the Democrats’ pork-fest, they should be well positioned for a comeback in 2010 and 2012.

  13. Inside Gitmo

The book, of course, could hardly be more timely, with closing the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay–someday–being one of the first acts of the new Obama administration.

How ironic that, in the end, liberals’ biggest criticism of George Bush is that he was mean to terrorists!

(Whereas Franklin Roosevelt, their hero, had German terrorists electrocuted.)

Col. Cucullu’s book seeks to bring a new element to the debate over Gitmo: facts. From the book’s dust jacket:

Current treatment and oversight routines exceed the standards of any maximum-security prison in the world.

Despite what the public has heard, these are not innocent goatherds but dedicated jihadists whose overriding goal–as they themselves candidly say–is to kill Americans.

    Ralph Peters writes:

Inside Gitmo provides the crucial element that’s been missing from the long partisan debate over the detention of terrorists at Guantanamo: facts. This fine, timely book shatters the politicized myth-making that has played into the hands of freedom’s enemies.

  14. Blago subpoenas include Obama aides

Two senior aides to Obama have been served with federal subpoenas, calling into question how closely the Obama transition team may have been tied to Blagojevich’s attempts to sell Obama’s vacated Senate seat:

Sweeping federal subpoenas of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s administration include requests for records involving David Axelrod, Rahm Emmaual, and Valerie Jarrett, senior advisers to President Barack Obama.

Forty three subpoenas were released by the Blagojevich administration Friday for calendars, correspondence and any other data that relate to Axelrod, Emmaual, Jarrett and 32 other people and organizations.

Blago-Rahma followers will recall that the Obama transition team reportedly wanted Jarrett to get the seat. If they pushed Jarrett, two people would have been most likely to act go-between. Rahm Emanuel was the early favorite for that job, but David Axelrod would have been better placed to work between all of the different factions.

Of course, this new revelation opens a new question. Why did the internal report from the Obama team not mention Axelrod and Emmanual when they cleared themselves of all complicity in the scandal? It seems like a strange oversight in retrospect.

Perhaps the feds thought the same thing.
