Christian College Suspends Student for Work as Gay Porn Actor

GCC_LogoGrove City College, a Christian College in Western Pennsylvania, has suspended John Gechter, 21, for one year after a student saw him in a gay porn movie performing under the name of “Vincent DeSalvo.” It is not clear how the student came across this information.

Gechter is considering a lawsuit and insists that he did the work to pay for college. In an interview with a gay magazine, Gechter complained “Kids were throwing food at me in the cafeteria. I got 150 hate e-mails. And the thing is, it’s a Christian school… Where’s the love and humility? I’m very cynical about Christian institutions now.”

He insists that porn is an excellent way to work through college: “”Porn enabled me to finish school. Instead of working 40 hours a week as a busboy or a waiter, you do a scene and then you have time to concentrate on schoolwork.” He can make as much as $8000 per scene.

Ironically, this is even bigger news than the fact that the college has a case of swine flu, here — largely because it was believed that the pig was heterosexual.

Grove City College advertises as “authentically Christian” — as opposed to those pretender schools. The handbooks states “Premarital sex, heterosexual or homosexual, or any other such conduct that violates historical Christian standards.” That would appear to cover a career as a gay porn star.

While the action is unpopular among many of us who prefer academic institutions to foster pluralistic thought and lifestyles, the fact is that this college has a right to require compliance with its religious mission. Gechter choose this college and agreed to live under its rigid religious rules. I do not see the legal claim on such a question. Indeed, a court order in his favor would cut deeply into free exercise guarantees of the Constitution.

He appears to have worked about a compromise where he will be allowed his degree but not participate in the graduation — he can then run for the Louisiana Senate seat in 2010.

  1. Hi,

Can you please remove this post regarding myself from your website. I really don’t want it to be viewable to public anymore. It concerns family issues. Please let me know if this is possible. Thanks

    Regards,
    John Gechter

  2. Mike Spindell,

    Give em hell Harry.

    Buddha,

I got it and start Monday. I guess I will be doing all aspects of the running the office running. I was charged with how to terminate without Unemployment liability. Considering I worked in the UE-Division of the AGs Office I think I can do that one.

I forgot to say Thanks to all that Responded Affirmatively. This includes you to Jill.

  3. On topic (marginally)
Article: “He can make as much as $8000 per scene.”

    Can this be correct? Really?

😉 Man, if porn paid this well when I was exploring the possibility of going to college my education and life would have worked out quite a bit differently. These whippersnappers just have it too easy. 😉

  4. Former Fed LEO,

BIL is W. Now that looks like something that mespo72cubed would say. But then again someone might think you are talking about Bill W.

  5. FFLEO:

I was making a joke about GW invading Buddhas consciousness. As Buddha and I had had a discussion about the nature of consciousness a couple of days ago on another thread. Also that is a theme in science fiction writing, which I know Buddha to be a fan (of science fiction in general).

I hope you or anyone else did not misconstrue my post.

  6. “Each of us will, at our appointed time, stand before the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who have never accepted him as Savior, or are walking in disobediance, must recognize that everything will be given account for and that tomorrow is not a promise.”

    Timbob,
Quite frankly I dearly hope your belief gives you comfort. I, however, do not share your belief as I am Jewish. I am also certain that the hundreds of millions who follow Islam do not share your belief that they will be judged by Jesus. There are billions of others in this world who don’t share your belief because they are Hindu’s, Buddhists, Taoists, Animists, etc. This doesn’t even address those without a belief in a Creator, or an afterlife.

You might have argued this from the perspective that the school, as openly and avowedly Christian, has the right to set the parameters of its’ students behavior and I would have to agree with that. You might also have discussed the issue of why this young man, supporting himself as he did, picked a devoutly Christian Institution to attend. This would have brought his motivation into question and then again I would have had to agree with you.

Now had you approached it from the standpoint that the Torah (what you mistakenly refer to as the Old Testament) had clearly called homosexuality an “abomination” in God’s eyes thus making it a sin, I would have had to disagree with you and remind you that other “abominations” in God’s eyes as referenced in the Torah was eating pork and/or shellfish. Also mixing milk with meat. I would have had to further point out that you are reading a translation of the Torah made by Christians who conveniently changed the meaning of some words to be consistent to their beliefs.

This would all be a beginning if I wanted to argue religion or philosophy with you, which I do not. This isn’t because I
don’t think I could hold my own, but because if it really came down to it I would have to use certain evidence that you would see as demeaning your faith. It is not my desire to demean you, or your faith and as I previously said I truly hope it provides you with great comfort. However, at an advanced age with the possibility of meeting my maker unexpectedly, I would like to inform you that I have spent a good deal of my life exploring my faith and those of others.
My beliefs give me great comfort and I am frankly tired of those Christians who are impelled to “witness” their faith to save the souls of non-believers.

I have known more than a few truly pious and saintly people in my life, who came from many different beliefs including Christianity. They all, besides their goodness as human beings, shared a humility about themselves and let their preaching be done, by the example of the lives they led. If you really want to bring people to Christ I suggest you do the same thing and treat others with humility, while living the kind of life that teaches not by words, but by example.

Instead you decided to turn your post into a teaching moment to reach out to those unsaved

  7. If we are to be tolerant to actions that God condemns, where will we draw the line? If we look at Jesus’s view of the adulteress, his response was “GO and sin NO MORE.” Our actions must show repentance.
I will throw caution in to the wind. Any Christian who acts outwardly in hatred through any sort of violence should re-examine themselves. In God’s eyes, they were no better.
If this story is true, this man should seek repentance and forgiveness. But his actions was against the school’s policy of holy living and sacrifice.

  8. Bron & Buddha,

A month or so ago, someone who really didn’t like Buddha because Buddha clearly won every argument, finally said something degrading—which was nonfactual—and then gave the devil his dues by saying that Buddha’s comments were, at times, bordering on brilliance.

Can you imagine the depth to which Buddha brings to this blawg and then picture him not contributing? Since our proprietor asked some people, including Buddha, to clean up their language, most have complied. We can still have dialog with somewhat ‘blue’ innuendo—as just above in the thread string—without becoming too crass with foul language. In fact, Buddha elicited my comments to him and I would have never thought such thoughts without his prompting, ergo, a bit of fun in this instance and a funny play on words: pageboy servant/attendant v. a leaf/sheet of paper or a bleep/call.

Notwithstanding, that Buddha is bad; Buddha/Budda is good…, funny…, and knowledgeable…,and thanks Buddha; one who lives to serve.

  9. FFLEO:

I think if somehow the consciousness of GW invaded Buddha he would kill himself as a service to mankind or at the very least would be at war with himself. The Buddha doing internal battle with the great satan, coming to a theatre near you, Christmass 2009.

  10. Okay, I should not even joke about that last statement.
