Cutie Confession: “Father Oprah” Admits Affair With Woman

image5005580gRev. Albert Cutie, known in Miami as “Father Oprah” for his popular radio program, has admitted to an affair with a woman after being taken off the air after the release of photos with the woman at a bar and the beach.

The photos were published in the Spanish-language magazine TVnotas. It appears that Father Cutie had a two-year affair with the woman, who he says he loves. He said that she wants to get married and he is considering his option. This would constitute the biggest “commitment debate” of a male in centuries. untitled

Earlier Tuesday, Archbishop John C. Favalora apologized to parishioners and listeners.

“Father Cutie made a promise of celibacy and all priests are expected to fulfill that promise with the help of God. Father Cutie’s actions cannot be condoned despite the good works he has done as a priest. Scandals such as this offer an occasion for the Church on all levels to examine our consciences regarding the integrity of our commitments to the Lord and to his Church.”

At least, if Father Cutie was cruising for women, he did not allegedly use church funds to enhance his appearance as with this minister.

This still better than some recent scandals such as the recently deceased Rev. Earl Paulk who fathered a child with his own sister-in-law and was accused of molesting his own granddaughter.

Cutie gave an interview on CBS Early Show. He said that he believes celibacy should be optional for priests, which appeared the rule in his case.

He added: “I don’t want to be the anti-celibacy priest. I think that’s unfortunate,” he said. “I think it’s a debate that’s going on in our society, and now I’ve become kind of a poster boy for it. But I don’t want to be that. I believe that celibacy is good, and that it’s a good commitment to God. This is something I’ve struggled with. And something that I never expected to become a public debate.”

I expect that the “anti-celibacy priest” is the least likely nickname that Father Cutie has to worry about.

  1. With honesty like that we need more of his kind in the Priesthood. It all began when the Bishops were having families and less graft went up stream.
