Top 500: Vote For Your Favorite Lawyers

header_logoThe annual selection of the top 500 lawyers in America has begun at LawDragon. You can vote for your favorite colleagues, teachers, or counsel.

While I am happy to be on the ballot, I am more happy to see others not on the ballot. Notably, John Ashcroft is no longer on the list. Nor is John Yoo or most other Bush lawyers. Also missing is Alberto Gonzales this year.

What is interesting is the absence of Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Clarence Thomas and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are also off the list, even though the rest of the Court makes it on the ballot. Judiciary Chairman John Conyers and other members of Congress are also not on the list.

  1. Read the Council of Trent, and study the Counter-Reformation and the missionary work of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and the Society of Jesus. You cherry pick the history you like, provided it conforms to your value system.

  2. Reform School equals some parochial education. You are taught to not question and just do. 13 or 14 of us were asked not to come back after 9th grade. If you had a clue you’d be dangerous. Since you are only saying what you are told to say you can be quarantened. The Edicts that Luther proposed all but 3 have been adopted. If they had adopted them at the time Luther, Calvin, Wesley wanted they would they still be part of the church today.

Words waste on you I am sure.

    Read the edicts of worms.

  3. I don’t know the results of last nights event, but if I were voting, JT gets my vote all the way. I like catching him on FOX, but his trips to T.V. land are becoming more sporadic. Maybe I just miss him when he’s on.

  4. Sorry, I had to hack on you a little AY, I don’t approve of people comparing me to Hitler, would you?

  5. Always remember AY, “it is better to have people think you are an idiot, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt”

  6. After listening to your pathetic attempt at sounding erudite in regards to the history and “teaching” of the Church on matters of faith and morals, its pointless to engage with the likes of you, AY. I am not surprised you did a stint in a reform school. Were you ever diagnosed with conduct disorder or sociopathy, while incarcerated?

  7. Then why were most of Luthers Edits eventually adopted by the church of your choice? Do you know how many?

    It was Money not principal.

  8. Wayne,

My disagreement with M. Appleton is because he claims to be Catholic, yet subscibes to teaching that the Church has declared heretical and false. I don’t know what your religious upbringing is AY, based upon your presentaion I can only assume you are not Catholic.
    ****************************

Who is to say that his views are “heretical and false” learn your History Pastor Anderson.

I went to reform school as well. The “Forced” Education created an interest in Knowledge. I feel sorry for your family as the ignorant breed despite Hitlers desire for the master race. Certainly you would have been next.

  9. Luther had no more authority to start a Church than you AY, or me. He was an ordained Augustinian priest, who lost his faith. No man has the right to start a new church. Our Lord already started it, and demands all men become memebers. The Church was in existence for over fifteen hundred years before Luther had his demonic meltdown…….

  10. Luther is declared a heresyarch and is excommunicated. I could not care less what drivel he espoused, he broke his vows by fornicating with a nun, who was also a vowed person living a consecrated life. You need to go back and learn your history AY…..

  11. My disagreement with M. Appleton is because he claims to be Catholic, yet subscibes to teaching that the Church has declared heretical and false. I don’t know what your religious upbringing is AY, based upon your presentaion I can only assume you are not Catholic. If you are interested in becoming a member, join the RCIA process, you will have to listen and learn and leave your ego at the door. If you are only interested in arguing to validate your ego, it is irrelevant to pursue this discussion. My reasons for reiterating my question to Appleton are clear, based on “his” presentaion as a Catholic.

  12. Wayne,

I think one of the issues Luther had was the excessiveness of the Bishopric. This included the use of the Nunneries for personal exploitation. He was also upset that the money raised was not being sent to Rome….

This could go on a long time. Learn your History, do not be afraid. Knowledge is not a bad thing, it helps you make better decisions.

  13. Wayne,

You are correct I do know the answers to these. I just would like to know if you do or are you as bad as the people who follow pastor Anderson. I presume you are blind.

Do you know who was the largest Profiteer in the Slave trade?

Do you know who profited the most from the apparent nonintervention (passively and actively looted and plundered the spoils of the Jews demise) in the Holocaust?

A fools is known for his words and lack of wisdom. Even a Fool can seem wise if they keep their mouths shut. I guess I should keep mine shut. Because when you argue with a fool, neither fool wins.

  14. If you believe the Church’s teachings are incorrect, don’t become a Catholic. Join a “flavor” of Protestant, there are over 18,000 flavors of this heresy worldwide. Since Luther broke from the Church multitudes of false religions continue to emerge. Interestingly, all claim to go “only” by the bible, sola scriptura, yet most of them come to different opinions of “everything” concerning salvation and baptism the number of sacraments even the day we worship on, ala the Seventh Day Adventists. You will find, as you march back through history, all religions fall away, save one. This Church is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic, and can trace its’ origin to Jerusalem, in the year 33. Our Lord said to Saint Peter, who was formerly Simon Barjona, prior to his name change to Cephas or Kepha, which in Aramaic means “Rock”. Catholic is a greek word it means ‘universal’. “Thou art Peter(Kepha) rock-upon this rock, I build My Church…. AY, go back and spend some time reading the Gospels, especially the Gospel of Saint Matthew. Peace…

  15. Anonymously Yours. The questions you have, you already know the answer to. If you are unclear I suggest you enroll in a course in Church History through the diocese you reside in. Many books can clear up these multitude of questions. You have know sincere interest in learning anything about the Church and since this is the case, we have nothing to talk about. Get on the internet google your question, I am sure you will get very complete answers to these questions. It would be irrelevant to pursue this, because if you were sincere in these questions you have, you could have accessed this information a long time ago……

  16. I still would like M. Appletons response to my question. It will never be forthcoming, he must be busy having tea and scones with the Berrigans at the state pen in Maryland. Good day…..

  17. Wayne,

Hummmpt, Question: What is the difference between a Convent and a Nunnery?

One was spiritual and one was a money raiser, one was a money raiser and one was the bishops personal concubine. Why do you really think that there is an Eastern Orthodox and a RCC? Why don’t the Eastern Orthodox have a Pope?

Think about the Old Testament. Not all believers subscribe that temple prostitute is such a bad thing. I guess this would have been the original church lady.

Why were only young girls given to the church to raise?

I have lots of questions. Read outside of the box. No all church teachings are correct. But you have to learn that for yourself. Did Jesus ever renounce Judaism? Have you ever heard of the three anti-popes?

Do you know when the RCC established in Rome? Do you think Peters Bones were always buried in Rome? I have lots of questions, this is enough for now.

Ok, one last one Which pope took the Old Testament out of the Catholics bible and you faced excommunication if you possessed a copy of it? Why did he take it out?

Know the information you espouse before you convey such rhetoric. Hint, you will need to look outside the box (RCC) for this.

  18. Women who take drugs that induce the miscarriage of the unborn, or in any way harm themselves to induce the miscarriage are procuring abortion through another means. It is grounds for excommunication and is a grave sacrilege. Remember the conscience and moral compass we all possess. Be that as it may, if you don’t believe me, read the Catholic cathechism and speak to a canon lawyer. Women are forbidded to take ‘morning after’ drugs. People are forbidden to have sex outside of the sacrament of marriage. Fornication and adultery are also grave and mortal sins…….
