When he served as the attorney general for Ontario, Michael Bryant argued for harsh punishment for criminals, including a crackdown traffic crimes such a speeders. He is now accused in a shocking act of road rage that killed a bicyclist who Bryant allegedly rammed into a mailbox.
Bryant, a Liberal party member, is charged with criminal negligence causing death and with dangerous driving causing death in the incident.
Bryant was driving in the upscale shopping district of Toronto when he had a minor collision with Darcy Allan Sheppard, 33, a bicycle courier.
Witnesses say that Sheppard grabbed Bryant’s side door when he began to drive away in his Saab convertible. They then say that Bryant accelerated and began to swerve to throw off Sheppard — even veering into oncoming traffic and driving on the sidewalk. They told police that Bryant drove near lampposts to try to brush off Sheppard and eventually rammed him into a mailbox.
Bryant then drove into a luxury hotel parking area and left the damaged car. However, he was filmed by a television crew leaving the hotel.
Bryant was best known for calling for the cars of dangerous speeders to be seized, telling such drivers “We will crush your car, we will crush the parts.”

The answer to the Limbaugh bull sh is to just turn the MF off.
On Rachel’s show, she reported that the finger could unfortunately not be reattached, although the gentleman’s bills are being paid for by medicare. I’m saddened that this will now be the new distraction from the debate (to the extent that there is a debate). I can already hear Limbaugh and Co. tommorrow. It’ll be all us hypocritical bleeding heart liberals with a taste for human flesh. I don’t think I can take much more.
I pulled my post (generated link above).
I’m redoing my entry as it wasn’t supposed to publish, just save as a draft.
Thanks for carrying this story about the former Liberal AG.
“When he gets to our side, he tells a story in one sentence: “He punched me hard, straight in the face, so I bit his finger off.”
The “victim” was a 65 year old man protesting against health care reform, especially expressing his displeasure with the public option. His finger was successfully reattached and the anti-government protester/victim’s socialist MEDICARE program picked up the bill.
Its not sounding like the biker was the sharpest tool in the shed either.
I wonder if “crushing his parts” (testicles) is apt?
Heallth care reform protest:
The man in the orange shirt hit the pro-reform guy (I’m going to call him PR Guy just to keep the players straight). Hard. ( tweeted in real time) He punched him in the face, knocked him to the ground and into that thruway. As you can see from the photo, cars drive straight through that without stopping. The pro-reform guy could have been run over. He got up, tried to get back up on the curb, but Orange Shirt guy was in his face. Finger in his face, PR Guy standing, steps up to the curb, and there’s a scuffle. Orange shirt seemed to have PR Guy in a hold, but again, I was across the street, so won’t state that as absolute fact. Next thing I see is PR Guy’s hat being tossed into the street, both yelling at one another, then Orange shirt walks away, PR Guy picks up hat and crosses to our side.
When he gets to our side, he tells a story in one sentence: “He punched me hard, straight in the face, so I bit his finger off.”
Honestly, I thought he was exaggerating. I guess he wasn’t.
Thank goodness he was not in Houston, the Bicyclist would have shot him dead for such an incident.
There are two sets of laws one for them and one for me.
Wow! Road rage knows no borders. I hope the spirit of the laws he propsed and defended show the same intolerance toward him as he showed to this bicyclist.
