Waste Not Want Not: Green Bike Shop Owner Given Citation for Not Having Enough Trash

200px-VuilnisBike shop owner Mark Howard prides himself on running a green business with virtually no trash. It is a bit too green for English authorities, who hit him with a citation. The reason? Not enough trash.

Howard was given a £180 fine because officers simply do not believe that anyone is that efficient.

What is amazing is the trash contractor wrote Howard to demand to know why he is not buying their trash bags and paying for their services at Sutton Road Cycles. When the green bike man said he had no trash, the garbage men cried “Rubbish!”

Simon Crowther, the group manager for waste, insists that this is only appropriate and that the duty is on the owner to show how they dispose of their waste. Otherwise, if you waste not, we want you not.

Below is the prior felon found to be hoarding his trash on Sutton Road:

I called it (your country?) ‘England” because I’m not sure what to call ‘England’ anymore- possibly Briton? And I wanted to divorce it from what is understood to be the “United Kingdom” which includes ? and its previous colonial holding. To call Scotland part of the United Kingdom is correct but it is also has a specific name. Is what I call England actually Briton these days? No offense is meant, it’s just that names change with the current politics and I’m not up on all of the contemporary names.

If you hang around here you’ve noticed that you’re preaching to the choir. The slide toward absolute government control and regulation of all citizen behavior in ? is a tragedy. Likewise the lawlessness of the US government and the force with which citizen oppression and suppression (Tazers, shootings, phony charges, etc.) is achieved is much railed against here.

  2. Sooo… this council and/or waste manager have never heard of recycling… well, that really doesn’t seem to be a big part of it. At least, you have to get past the part about the officials refusing to listen to Mr Howard’s offered defense! I wonder what connections (if any) there are between the contractor Cory, the waste manager and the Council… which possible circle apparently doesn’t include anyone making money from the recycling community.

  3. My only advice would be to advise you to consider the source.
The daily mail is a written version of fox news and rails against all things not white, religious and/or conservative.
recently they have taken to writing puff pieces for the BNP (Britain’s nazi party).
They do not like recycling generally and will only write about Council mistakes if the council is not a conservative run.

Also England isn’t a country it’s part of the United Kingdom and I believe that the US has done away with requiring the accuser to provide proof in advance of assigning a penalty in more serious cases than this. Gitmo ring a bell.

That said it dose sound like a cock-up on behalf of the council. And having worked for a council in the past this will be resolved. When I had issues my local councilor was the person to speak to and this route always yielded positive results.

  4. I can understand where he is coming from. As a person that likes it cool and if you have ever lived in Texas you’d understand it. But I lived in an apartment for 14 or 15 months. In the summer time I used 200 to 300 dollars a month in electricity. Thats a lot for an efficiency. In the winter time it dropped down to the min of 5 dollars a month.

The utility company was perplexed and did an investigation (meter tampering). Because this was in Austin on the way home from a number of bars they had them secured. Because, sometime drunks do stupid funny things. Like pulling the spark plug wires off of motorcycles (another story another day).

It was simple for me. The Apt was a middle corner unit facing the South West. It was a brick building which retained the heat. No need for heat in the winter except a couple of times a year. So that was easy enough for me.

At that time I did not know about this type of stuff. I have learned a lot from my clients. Oh yeah. Especially the kids. Geeze.

  5. England.

Just when I thought you couldn’t be any more draconian and simple minded.

Ok, so you ticketed him for not enough trash? When are you going to ticket him for not buying enough stuff to make the trash you oh so desire? Hmmm? Don’t you see the problem here?

I’m guessing when Hawking and Penrose die your country’s average IQ is going to dip waaaaaayyyyyyy below 100.

  6. Yikes! This is an example of the law gone wild. The fact that he is good at recycling is basically being used against him here. I think Simon Crowell needs to get his head out of his arse and nullify this citation.

  7. Because the only country in the West that is farther along the road to complete authortarian lockdown than we are is England? Just ask’n.
