Bible Battles: Students Use Free Gideon Bibles in Texas Schools to Beat Jewish Students and Roll Joints

200px-Gideon140px-Family-bibleTexas parents are complaining that a program to distribute free Gideon Bibles at schools may have backfired. So many Bibles were distributed to students in Plano and Frisco that students reportedly began to use them as weapons, sold them, or even uses the pages to roll joints. In one particularly disturbing account, a Jewish boy was attacked by Christian students throwing the bibles at him.

The American Civil Liberties Union has issued a report on the abuse. Various complaints have been filed over the program by Gideons International. We previously followed one such controversy in Frisco where the violence has been reported, here.

The attack on the Jewish student occurred at Frankford Middle School in Plano.

It appears “going Biblical” in Texas schools can have a slightly more threatening meaning than other states.

  1. Debating with someone who does not believe in God, without first discussing said subject, is almost always fruitless.
If they are firmly set on not believing in God, there answers will always include – “you have no proof.”
Since they are correct, we cant see God.. and a simple explanation of “Yes. We also cannot see the wind but we see its effects?” Brings the response of pretty much –
    “Thats something different…”

Truth be told, most who scoff at God and/or belief systems in him (though religion today is a farce and a huge disrespect to the True God), plainly have no desire to *submit* to any higher power, that they don’t “deem” correct for that position. Disregarding whether their own views may be flawed or not…

much more to say- so little time..

“Tell us all who the Canaanites were and what does one do with a civilization whose worship of God includes bestiality, sodomy, and offering infants alive on a red hot brazen alter (which cooks them to death)?”

Why clearly Tootie you put every man, woman, child, and pet to the sword and then sow salt on their lands. You see we know that each and every Canaanite was intrinsically evil, especially the infants, who really enjoyed the primitive practice of human sacrifice. The same for those pesky Amalchites. We know that, contrary to Edmund Burke’s naivete’, you certainly can indict an entire population for the sins of the few, and we also know that the Israelites would never exaggerate or contradict themselves in their divine history book. We further know that God ordains certain religions to act as his deliverers of divine retribution and the Israeli’s were certainly the ones as we can readily tell from their magic books which they wrote and which told them so. (A little cautionary note here, please don’t tell the radical muslims that they aren’t the chosen ones to deliver punishment, it might get your tongue cut off and make them rethink, if only for a moment, their next flight of fancy into a western building.)

If you want to believe the blood thirsty tales of some First Century Iron Age tribe, and then abjectly bow down in worship, you have every right to do so, but please don’t consider yourself enlightened or immune from criticism for believing in preposterous things with no proof of them. Please don’t misjudge my comments for bigotry against religion, it’s bigotry directed against fools who guide their lives by superstition or arrogance, or, most likely, both.

  3. It is likely that those students who were throwing bibles are the types who will grow up and post bigoted remarks about Christians and other religious people at Jonathan Turley’s blog.

Clearly, they had contempt for the Bible, like many of those posting here.

When a man who practices these things shows up at the tent of your sister or daughter and there is no one there to protect her, don’t you hope she might have the opportunity to get a tent peg in his head before anything amiss happens to her?

Or do you think she should just wait until the cops arrive on their horses after she sends up a smoke signal across the desert?

If a kid picks up a history book that tells the story of the Lincoln assassination, will you blame the history books if a kid heads off to kill a president at a theater?

Is it your position that if the bible relays a story about crime (rape, robbery, etc) that means the bible is promoting it?

If so, you better start burning history books.

  5. If they forced a Bible on me in public school I would have burned it. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE

I am already handing ’em out in hopes of starting a trend. Call me sacrilegious.

  7. Godammit, Mespo! When the Gideons start handing out tent pegs, we’re all in the crapper.

So glad you enjoyed that comment.

I was raised a Catholic–and learned about the “nine choirs of angels” in parochial school. Each choir has its own specific duties. To learn more about angels, check out the following link:

You’ve got to wonder what kind of folks made this stuff up centuries ago.
