Morality Police in Indonesia Arrest Female Student For Relations With Her Boyfriend . . . And Then Repeatedly Rape Woman

We have yet another example of abuse by Sharia authorities. In Indonesia, three members of the Sharia police arrested a 20-year-old student who was accused of immoral relations with her boyfriend. They allegedly took the woman to the police station and took turns raping her until she was hospitalized with internal bleeding.

Police have arrested two of the three officers, who they say carried out the crime on Friday (considered the “day of goodness” for Muslims).

The men had been hired by the chief of Langsa Shariah Police to impose Sharia law and police the streets for signs of immorality. The province opened its first Sharia court in 2003.

  1. Duh,

Could you imagine what would take place in the U.S. if a religious organization tried to arrest people on the public streets?

The “Wilayatul Hisbah” is actually a law enforcement organization (albeit a very poorly trained and supervised when compared with the “normal” police) of the province government of Aceh.
And, strictly speaking, they’re not enforcing Sharia, but provincial bylaws which are “just” modeled very closely on the Sharia by the province legislator.

  2. I just heard Joe Biden making remarks to a prayer breakfast-what party is he from again?

How come Democrats always campaign from the pulpit of Black Churches?

  3. Oh I have spellin errors all the time, gramma too. Don’t bother me none. It’s kinda like making stupid comments, everybody does it from time to time. On a slow day I’ll correct’em but I won’t be typocritical to point them out knowing that I will again make a mistake. History is funny that way, so is typing.

Yea I saw Buddah the other day but only for a brief moment. Sure does move around alot.

  4. I swear; to some of you, everything is about partisan politics.

The problem here stems from permitting religious organizations to create and enforce laws that violate basic human rights. It is a good sign that two of the three Sharia Police Officers have been arrested, but the bigger problem is that they are permitted to exist in the first place.

  5. Well is that not all and good?

Thank you and when you do seen a spelling error and you will. Please note this in your journal for future reference. Thank you kindly for your consideration.

I see beyond is not spelled beyound. But then again, you corrected your post as you are focused on the topic at hand.

Buddha will be back, he has assured me.

  6. For Tootie:
A couple of years ago I was driving up I75 in Michigan, and went by a (presumably fundamentalist) megachurch. On their large sign by the highway, it said “The Bible is All the Constitution We Need.” How many Democrats do you suppose belong to that church?

  7. I noticed it in your posts, spelling errors and the lack of focus.

Me, don’t drink, don’t smoke. What do I do. Subtle innuendo’s follow, there must be something inside.

  13. Virtually all the most important laws (against murder, rape, theft, etc) are only based in morality.

  14. rcampbell:

Please prove your point. Prove where the GOP has policy to make religion (I presume Christianity) rule over the Constitution…or whatever point you are trying to make.

  15. Sharia Law, wherein the writings in a holy book are held to be more important than the Constitution. That sounds like the Republican Party.
