Faith-Healing Parents in Oregon Convicted of Negligent Homicide

A church in Oregon has the infamous reputation of killing children in the name of faith. Now, two parents — Jeff and Marci Beagley — have been found guilty of negligent homicide. Their case was discussed in this prior column. It is a welcomed charge (often religious parents are given lesser charges in the death of their children due to faith-healing), but the likely sentence is likely to be relatively low given the history of this church and the loss of life.

They will face only 16-18 months in the death of their sixteen-year-old Neil who died from a urinary tract blockage that could have been easily addressed by doctors. I have argued that faith-healing parents are being given special and lenient treatment over other neglectful parents, here.

The Followers of Christ church rejects conventional medicine in favor of faith-healing.

  1. Obviously AY was always interested in one thing.

  3. EC,

I know neither of them are you as they are both sans tiara. Some cats just don’t have your natty fashion sense. Or common sense for that matter.

  4. Oh well, I tried.

Obviously AY was always interested in one thing.

Defeating the topic of the thread.

First, he tried arguing his morally bankrupt point.

He tried arguing parents have a constitutionally protected right to deny their children medical care for religious reasons.

Then, when I defeated that point, somehow he managed to turn this into a circus of personal attacks on me and even get people like Buddha, to come in and attack me for HIS position.

And now he’s content to just let the thread drift off into an incoherent babble of nonsense rather than simply let the thread return to the topic so at least it ends on point.

Of everyone hear I have been the ONLY one consistently attempting to bring the thread back on topic.

So much for the blog rules.

  5. Thats ok, and you better put a picture with your screen name. There is someone on here that takes on multiple screen names.

  6. Its easy to gang up on one person here, in this case based on the comments above its clearly because I defended Christians in another thread, (since you all keep referencing it even though I never brought anything of the sort up) and mock their sanity, their family, their beliefs, etc.

Its easy to do that from the comfort of the keyboard.

But usually when people get together in a social setting it becomes apparent their own prejudices and they tend to wane in light of pleasant discourse and drink with a fellow citizen.

    I think that’s a smashing idea.

    Is professor Turely hosting?

    I’ll bring the manischewitz.

  8. You should change your screen name and avatar to the Empire Socks Back.

  9. Maybe John Edwards can go next. Sex Video/DVR stored on his friends computer. Having sex with Reilley Hunter while she is visibly pregnant.

  10. In fact I think once people meet face to face and see that the person they are attacking is just a normal, living breathing human being then suddenly those attacks disappear.

“Didn’t Jonathan invite us all over for wine tonight? Why am I still here?

I am going to start wining again.”

I’d love to come by if that’s an open invitation and have a drink with you face to face.

I would enjoy that very much, thank you.

  12. Better than a sock in they eye or a 9 iron going through the rough. Ouch, I hate it when that happens.
