Eleven-Year-Old Boy Buys Nine Mansions in Dubai for $44 Million

Some of our kids pester us for a new Wii game. For the eleven-year-old son of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, a shopping spree includes $44 million worth of mansions in Dubai. That is the equivalent of what an average citizen in Azerbaijan would make in 10,000 years.

The government of Azerbaijan — which is notoriously corrupt — will not comment on the purchases or the connection to the eleven year old. What is known is that he has the same name and age of the President’s son. Ilham Aliyev’s annual salary as president is the equivalent of $228,000.

When asked about the purchases, Azer Gasimov, the president’s spokesman, declined to discuss the Dubai real estate purchases. “I have no comment on anything. I am stopping this talk. Goodbye.”
