Russian Party Leaders Call For Branding Of Corrupt Officials

Russian politicians appear to be adopting the methods of some Sharia courts in proposing that corrupt Russian officials be branded with the letter K (the Russian symbol for a bribe taker) on their left hands.

Liberal Democratic Party deputies Sergei Ivanov and Igor Lebedev have proposed the draconian measure in the State Duma to shame officials and deter others: “The authors of the bill believe that branding bribe-takers with indestructible marks in a visible place to show that they have committed a crime will enable employers to refuse them employment.”

Whether it is blasphemy laws or branding laws, the West appears to be de-evolving with such measures.

Maybe they got the idea from the climactic scene from Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds…..

  2. Forewarned is forearmed. Make sure you take enough bribe money to afford the plastic surgery to disguise the brand.

And yes, corporate logo badges are a good idea. They may have to have more than one jacket. Lets see, today will go with the oil companies, tomorrow the banks, and for Thursday the insurance companies. Great. got it covered. We’ll worry about the drug companies next week.

  3. Russia seems to be slipping back into the power structure and mindset that existed in the old Soviet Union. Putin and Medvediev (sp) planning to ping-pong the presidency is not a good sign IMO. Jailing and spiriting away dissidents and now the prospect of torturing criminals (branding is torture any way you cut it) is a giant step backward.

Come to think about it, the US seems to be staunchly advancing back to the conditions and behavior of the cold war Soviet Union. Next thing you know we’ll invade Afghanistan…. oh, um, never mind.

  4. If it’s good enough for NASCAR Drivers. it’s good enough for my congressman .. er … woman

Sure would have made the Impeachment Trial Hearings more colorful

  5. I believe it should go further. Not only should those who say they are representing the public be know to the public for their crimes, but they should also have to wear patches or some other type of logos from the corporations where they get their funding.

  6. Elaine,

What’s so very funny about that Newt at AEI scenario is AEI is a prime driver behind the whole Neocon “Clash of Cultures” movement which wants to fight a religiously based injustice like sharia with an equally unjust imposition of Judeo-Christian based reasoning.

And to your post proper, I’m running a little behind on my coffee consumption today, but the first scan of the sentence “she might be slipping a little sharia into the American subconscious” read to my sleepy eyes as “she might be slipping a little Shiraz into the American subconscious” which made me giggle because someone would have to be drunk to think she’s a good judge and not a TV clown.

  7. wadn’t there a book already written about branding….The Scarlett……B….

come on….just move em to California…I hear they have a number of elective offices open…they might even need a Chief of Police and City manager….

  8. Sharia law in Russia? Maybe. But Newt Gingrich is going to make sure Sharia law won’t be enforced in the US if he has anything to say about it.

Sharia as the new red menace?

Boy, I really hate it when American judges try to impose harsh Islamic sharia law. You know, with all those grisly lashings, stonings and beheadings. What’s that you say? No such thing is happening, and you wonder where I got such a crazy idea? Why, Newt Gingrich told me.

On Saturday, speaking at the conservative Values Voter Summit, Gingrich issued a thunderous call for action against an imminent threat that exists only in his fevered imagination — or, perhaps, in his political machinations.

“We should have a federal law that says sharia law cannot be recognized by any court in the United States,” Gingrich declared, to a standing ovation.

Okay, but would this include Judge Judy? Because I’ve always suspected that when she gets really mad, and she snaps the heads off both the plaintiff and the defendant, she might be slipping a little sharia into the American subconscious — you know, preparing an unsuspecting nation for the real deal. Maybe we need another law that covers fake judges on daytime television, with punishments that begin with flogging.

But seriously, folks, Newt says we have to halt the insidious encroachment of sharia law, and we have to halt it here and now. In July, speaking at the American Enterprise Institute, he went on at great length about the supposed sharia menace, which he sees as part of a “stealth” campaign to impose Islam on all of us.

“Stealth jihadis use political, cultural, societal, religious, intellectual tools; violent jihadis use violence,” Gingrich said at AEI. “But in fact they’re both engaged in jihad, and they’re both seeking to impose the same end state, which is to replace Western civilization with a radical imposition of sharia.”
