Hello Dalai: Spiritual Leader Hands Out $50,000 To Study Happiness

Dalai Lama has given researchers at the University of Wisconsin at Madison a donation of $50,000 to study happiness. Once again, I remain unclear why I am not the recipient of such academic grants. I could show that giving me just $25,000 would produce considerable happiness.

The research at Wisconsin began with Richard Davidson when he was a psychology doctoral student in the 1970s. He is now a neuroscientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and his work continues at the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds at Madison, which explores meditation as a way to promote compassion and kindness. In a meeting years ago, the Dalai Lama asked Davidson to “use sophisticated tools” to “investigate things like kindness and compassion.” This grant is enough to produce unrivaled euphoria in any academic.

You couldn’t get a smile out of me for $25K but I would let you try.

P.S. to JT: Bad negotiating technique there, Prof. 🙂
