A new Gallup poll shows just how racially divided the country has become over the President. The poll shows a whopping 91% of Blacks supporting Barack Obama as compared to only 36% of Whites.
President Obama’s overall approval rating has stayed below 50% and some polls have him in the 30s. This poll shows him at 45%.
Democrats still like Obama by 79% and liberals are just slightly lower at 75%. The poll would suggest that liberals are not altering their views of the President despite his adoption of many Bush era policies, as discussed earlier.
Gallup shows failing popularity in every other demographic group beyond African-Americans:
57%. Hispanics: 55%. Moderates: 54%. Unmarrieds: 53%. Easterners: 52%. Women: 47%. Midwesterners and Westerners: 45%.
Beyond Whites in general, the worst groups are married citizens at 39% and seniors at 38%.
While the Administration has been trying to appeal to conservatives in various areas, it does not seem to be having an impact. Obama has a 23% popularity among conservatives. For Republicans, it is down to 12%.

Lottakatz,
I think that cartoon piece on boston.com was done with tongue in cheek.
Do you remember when FOX News tried to do a right-wing comedy “news” program like The Daily Show? It wasn’t funny–and it didn’t last long.
Dr. Polar Bear:
“Arrogance and stupidity are in abundance in the human race.”
****************
Right you are Mr. Bear, and mostly from that “Flat Earth Society” crowd that denies global warning. We don’t admonish you, of course, you’re just a dumb animal.
The climate changes all the time from hot to cold and from cold to hot based on numerous moderation’s in many different natural systems.
To assert that global warming is somehow the cause of all these changes is to ignore the history of the earths climate over billions of years. Humans are such arrogant little creatures. How long have you been around? 50,000 years plus or minus in your present form. And only about 5,000 of that is able to be recorded in any semblance, the last 200-300 years is probably accurate as far as temperature goes considering you didn’t even have a god damn thermometer until about 1600 and that wasn’t even able to actually measure temperature just the deviation.
So how is that you think with about 300 years of data you think you can extrapolate data and determine that human activity is the cause? Seeing as how the real carbon spewing didn’t get started until the mid to late 1800’s. My kind has been around for over 100,000 years and we have seen thick ice and thin ice and years when our fur was extra thick and years when it was thin. We have seen years of many seals and years of slim pickings. And we have seen all of this while your clan was living in worse conditions than we do.
Our clan will remain long after yours is gone, because of the stupidity of those of you who are arrogant enough to believe that you can change natural systems by the addition of a relatively minuscule amount of carbon dioxide. It is laughable.
Arrogance and stupidity are in abundance in the human race.
Bdaman,
Good to read you and trust the family weathered the storms.
I try to stay out of the “weather” discussion because I know so little about the science and have very little interest in it. I do practice many of the recommendations because, quite frankly, doing so saves me money. I cut my natural gas bill in half and close to that on my electric bill and the investments required have now fully paid for themselves so the savings go into the bank.
Historians claim that one of the reasons the Pilgrims/Puritans had such a difficult time in their initial settlements was that “cold” winter weather was much more severe from the late 1600’s through the middle 1800’s … which also was a factor in the push West (inland towards Ohio etc.) from the East Coast where the weather along the Atlantic continued to be severely cold. Things warmed up after the mid 1800’s.
In reference to Slarty’s link to the definition of “teabagger”, when you go to “www.urbandictionary.com”, be sure to look up the term “asshat”. If you can get past the list of words highlighted in blue, followed by the definition and photograph without falling out of your chair, “You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din”.
Bdaman,
I’ll keep this short because I don’t want to hijack this thread and I’m in the process of moving over the next couple of days, but I’ll answer your questions. First off, ‘no summer’ is something unusual – i.e. it is an example of climate CHANGE. All of the things you cite (as they are unusual) are contradicting the theory you support. Secondly, the dishonest acts of others do not excuse your own dishonest acts – I don’t think the media should be dishonest (and a disturbingly high proportion of them are dishonest in some form or other), but I can make comments to you that actually might change your behavior. I think you’ve come a long way, but it isn’t about the destination, it’s about the journey. In the past you’ve posted a lot of information from dubious sources – there’s not necessarily anything wrong with this (some of them may have been correct), but you will gain credibility if you make an attempt to determine their veracity and disclose that with your posts. Also (and this is something that I try to do myself – I did it endlessly during the 9/11 debate with Bob) you should check out information on both sides of an issue – if you can find something that contradicts or weakens the point you are trying to make, then you can either strengthen your reasoning or discard the flawed argument (bonus points for posting something contrary to your argument as long as it’s not a straw man). Now you don’t have to follow my advice, but if you want to earn more respect from me, this is a suggestion as to how to do it.
And apart from being mostly unemployed, I’m doing fine, thanks for asking.
Well, once again I seemed to have failed on the ‘short’ thing… 😉

I’m not surprised, puppy mills are big business in rural Missouri as is ‘stuck on stupid’. One of the largest ‘exotic’ animal auction houses in the country was also in Missouri. Last I checked up on them they were no longer selling big cats but they (Lolli Bros.) were notorious for decades for supplying hunting preserves with cats. I’m sure that’s where their African hoofed animals go these days.
Missouri isn’t exactly the gleaming jewel in the nations crown, especially when it comes to the way it treats animals.

Tea Party takes over comics page
(From boston.com)
By Ward Sutton
The newspaper comics page: some find it to be innocuous, even at times irrelevant. But there’s a growing concern among a certain segment of the country that the comics page is out of step with mainstream values, if not an outright cesspool of treasonous, pinko propaganda. So in the interest of fairness and balance we present comics reinvented by “Tea Party cartoonist Joe Smith” — with a little help from Ward Sutton.”

The problem with the RW Cartoons is that they’re not funny, not ironic, not stimulating, just boring. Little wing-nut thoughts for the day slapped on plagiarized (?) images.
We spent years here in St. Louis with Doonesberry stuck on the editorial page of the local paper. I like comedy and and one of the things I’ve noticed over the years is that conservative political humor just isn’t funny. Thanks for keeping me current with what passes for conservative cartoons these days.
Following a reasonably benign winter, the Southland region of New Zealand (NZ) has in the past week been hit by “the worst spring storm in living memory” according to the NZ Herald.
Six days of blizzards have caused deaths among new lambs numbering in the hundreds of thousands, and raised concern over the welfare of ewes yet to lamb.
Besides the effect of the cold weather itself, the continued snowfall has not allowed snow on the ground to thaw, making it much harder for stock to feed.
This makes ewes about to lamb particularly susceptible to metabolic illnesses from a lack of nutrients.
Reportedly, lamb mortality in the area may be as high as 15% for some farmers. With average prices for lambs expected to be around NZ$80/head this season (NZ Herald), the financial loss to NZ producers will be significant, estimated to exceed NZ$50 million (NZ Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry).

First of all, how are you Doc ?
Secondly I made no mention of anything in reference to GW/CC
However to answer your question,
Record highs in LA is what the media wants to push because of the agenda. How bout California without an entire summer. The record highs occurred over a few days. The entire summer was void of hot temperatures. With that said where does the intellectual dishonesty LIE? Answer, With the media. No different than the media pushing the story about how a black House of Rep. was spat upon and called racial epithets. Guess what? it didn’t happen.

Bdaman,
Why no mention of all of the record highs this summer? 113° in LA in late September? Only reporting things that seem to agree with your thesis (and, by the way, record lows DO NOT support your assertions) is a sign of intellectual dishonesty.
Bdaman:
people give you a hard time? Is racism really simmering? Or is it a perception. Also who has discriminated against you?
Another global waming scam perpetrated by certain people who support anti-growth policies:
ARE THE U.S. SCIENTISTS DELUSIONAL IN THEIR SEA ICE IDEAS?
Someone in authority in the U.S. lying or wrong; it’s that simple.
We have the spokesman from the NSIDC claiming again, like three years ago before he woke up and realized the La Nina was causing a recovery, that Arctic sea ice is in a death spiral. He tries to use the metric “thickness of ice.”
Yet here we have the NAVY saying the ice is thicker.
http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2010/09/21/is-the-ice-getting-thicker/
Somebody is wrong.
On paper, the NSIDC spokesman is trying to say to believe him rather than our lying eyes, which on every objective sea ice site is not as low as in 2007… an inconvenient truth given the amount of warmth that supposedly boiled the Arctic over the last year, and the amount of cold coming in response, in the shorter term, to the La Nina (unseen by NOAA models as late as April, and of course two years ago when the sea ice death spiral comment came on, and I suspect they are not paying attention now. If they were, with the amount of cold now forecast on their models, why open your mouth? At least let them bust.
Over the coming years, either I or these people trying to force their ideas on us will be exposed as the knight guarding the bridge in Monty Python’s search for the Holy Grail was. Personally, I think after the recovery started in 2008 and 2009 that was the first blow to them… now they are yelling “come back and fight! It’s a flesh wound.” Well here comes the second stronger cut. How long they can get chopped up in the coming years, with the PDO already cold and the Atlantic turning colder in 10-15 years will remain to be seen.
On paper, it’s utter foolishness that doesn’t make sense and why our people did not challenge it in the article on the 17th is bewildering to me. How do you explain the warmest year on record in the Arctic, yet the least ice melt? Surely if it’s that warm, then the sea ice should have gone below the 2007 record. Now this guy comes on and claims it has… it’s in the THICKNESS. Yet we have the U.S. Navy showing that simply is not true. Are the U.S. Navy people now part of a denial conspiracy? EITHER IT WASN’T THAT WARM AS THEY LED US TO BELIEVE, OR THE ICE IS NOT IN AS BAD SHAPE. YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.
I have left the links countless times for you to monitor sea ice. Of course, the people screaming the death of the Arctic make no mention of the overall trend in the Southern Hemisphere. But why would they? It would simply lead to another common sense conclusion… something that showed up many thousand of years ago in Ecclesiastes 1:9-14.
“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun”
Interesting, Evan Myers, one of the original members of the founding accuweather.com crew here, told me his grandmother used to tell him that all the time. The wisdom of the ages and those that came before can always be used to counter the impulsiveness of those that wish to ignore the facts.
Given you can all monitor these things we shall see where the death spiral is next year.
A NICE LINK TO READ

Addiction Analyst,
I don’t think one develops/learns an attitude in a matter of months. I do think certain media personalities–as well as some politicians–know/knew how to tap into the racism that has been quietly simmering under the surface in this country for years. Just my opinion.
=====================================================
I am of the same opinion.
Addiction Analyst,
I don’t think one develops/learns an attitude in a matter of months. I do think certain media personalities–as well as some politicians–know/knew how to tap into the racism that has been quietly simmering under the surface in this country for years. Just my opinion.
Just by the number of responses on this subject, you can see how much racial charge exist in our country. People don’t actually have that much problem with President’s Obama being Black, but the news media and the right wing have relentlessly created those divisions.
Those numbers are shocking and sad. The President certainly doesn’t favor Blacks or even aligns with black attitudes. I think it is more about the attitudes that have been taught to the whites since he became president. Every sane person hoped for the opposite reaction to race and that his election would heal the divide.
The ignorance on this site amazes me to no end. What do you think China is doing? Preparing to play Red Rover? They have one of the largest militaries in the world and have been building up their air, land and sea forces. They have nuclear capability and ICBM’s to deliver them.
They control the Panama Canal, they have a Sea Port in Los Angeles, they are in South America and Africa making strategic partnerships. I point out that both South America and Africa have much in the way of raw materials.
The list goes on and on.
Swarthmore Mom:
if there are laws on the books preventing animal cruelty why is prop. B even necessary? Shouldn’t the existing laws be used to regulate the industry?
This is like gun ownership, we have something like 20,000 laws on the books for regulation of all types of firearms why do we need more? I think the answer is the left wants the total elimination of firearms. Same with dog breeders and so Prop B.
A person has a right to breed dogs for a living and the smart ones would want to take care of their animals to reduce expenses. The ones that abuse their animals should be subject to existing laws on animal abuse.
Why is it that more laws are necessary when existing laws can do the same thing? In my mind it is about control and changing legitimate behaviour, social engineering if you wish. Enough already, leave us alone and let us live as free people.
Rational people cannot be controlled except by force.
Gyges:
I disagree with you on Jefferson. I think it has more to do with what you are exposed to during your education and formative years. It also depends a good deal on your intelligence. Had Jefferson had the same educational experiences he had today-the classics, law, self study. I should imagine he would think similarly to how he actually thought.
The society as a whole plays some part but I don’t think it necessarily shapes your thinking in all aspects of your conscientiousness.
