Leading Pakistani Cleric Offers Reward For Anyone Who Kills Woman Who Insulted Islam

In Peshawar, Maulana Yousef Qureshi, the imam of a major mosque is not satisfied with the prosecution of Asia Bibi for blasphemy. He has offered a bounty to anyone who kills her for insulting Islam.

What is astonishing is that he was not been arrested for making a public offer to pay for a murder. Instead, he is warning the government not to back off blasphemy executions, “which provide protection to the sanctity of Holy Prophet Mohammad.”

He is offering $5,800 for the murder and has told Muslims that God will reward them for the killing as required under Islamic law.

The incident leading to the charge began when Bibi fetched water as a farmhand and offered it to other women. The Muslim women refused because it had been touched by a Christian (Bibi) and thus “polluted.” Later a mob tried to beat her to death and she was rescued by police, who then charged her with blasphemy after the same women accused her of saying bad things about the Prophet Mohammed.

Qureshi insists that blasphemy laws are essential to forcing compliance with Islamic principles for Muslims and Non-Muslims alike. I have written prior columns condemning the increase of blasphemy prosecutions in the West and the Obama Administration’s yielding to demands from Egypt and Pakistan to support such prosecutions.

  2. I ask my wife if we could do a little role playing last night with me being the Islamist extremist.

My conclusion is this, and mind you I stand firm. There was no conclusion to the experiment but she promised we could put it to the test again tonight. 🙂

  3. bdaman,

“Denmark’s government is being called upon to employ a lethal new weapon in the fight against Islamist extremism: bare breasts.”

    Finally!

A strategy we can agree on.

But only if we use it on the Christian extremists too.

LOL, great idea and not particularly unusual! I know that one of the various tests, or assessments one takes for citizenship in the Netherlands is to watch a movie showing a variety of cultural vignettes one is likely to encounter in that country and then a discussion takes place to see how the applicant feels about what they saw. Cultural suitability is a requirement for citizenship in the Netherlands.

    I don’t have a problem with that.

  5. My mother in law lives in West Seneca, Buffalo. She’s been trapped in the house for two days. The snow has piled up over seven feet around her house. She lives alone and can’t get anybody to dig her out yet. She says she hasn’t seen it like this since the seventies. She was freaking out because they got the phenomenon called thunder snow. The U.K. got it as well.

I wonder if fatwahs work both ways? Could Salman Rushdi have offered money to knock off one of the Imams?

    ===================================================

Now that’s an intriguing thought … after all bin Laden issued fatwahs calling upon Muslims to take up arms against the United States so why can’t Rusdi issue a few of his own against whomever is persecuting him?

No, I’m not making this up – and also deny outrageous suggestions that I’m looking for an excuse to tear myself away from the world-changing Wikileaks exposé. Peter Skaarup, the foreign policy spokesman of the Danish People’s Party, wants footage of topless women at beaches to be included in a video shown to prospective immigrants, in order to deter religious fundamentalists.

“Topless bathing probably isn’t a common sight on Pakistani beaches, but in Denmark it is still considered quite normal. I honestly believe that by including a couple of bare breasts in the movie, extremists may have to think twice before deciding to come to Denmark,” he said.

  11. Blasphemy executions… National security executions…

All ordered by self-described muslims and christians in powerful government positions….
If I wasn’t so damn agnostic, I’d sue them for blasphemy.

Crimes against humanity, no one seems to notice anymore.

  12. Maybe Huckabee can get together with this Imam and work a deal. They both want to shut down free speech and whistleblowers!

  14. Autocrats all work on the same principle. Their goal is always power. Suppression of thought, dissent, human kindness though use of threats, violence, and propaganda are their techniques. We see it in religion, govt., businesses, family relations, etc. Wherever there is an autocrat you will find these same cruelties.
