The Exorcist Files: Catholic Church Agrees To Reality Show With the Discovery Channel

The Vatican is teaming up with the Discovery Channel in a reality show based on the Vatican’s case files and interviews with its top exorcists. While Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon might have had to wait for a Vatican murder to get access to the Vatican files, Discovery can do so with the promise of a reality show. It just shows that even the Pope cannot resist the temptation of a reality show any more than Sarah Palin.

Discovery president and GM Clark Bunting insists that “[t]he work these folks do, and their conviction in their beliefs, make for fascinating stories.” Do you remember when the History Channel had history, MTV had music, and the Discovery Channel had science?

The idea of the exorcists and Palin sharing the same green room at Discovery, however, is promising given her earlier interaction with a witch doctor.

  1. Raff responding to Anon-nurse: “Anon nurse, that song was the theme for the Archie Bunker series,All in the Family. I think it was called, “Those were the Days”.”

    Anon-nurse, Rafflaw, There’s also this:

  3. But will they exercise Sarah….will there be a remake of “Two Mules for Sister Sara?…..How will we know?

  4. Looks like Anthony Hopkins is following the same career path as Richard Burton did: appearing in any Grade Z movie that provides a pay check. Burton appeared in one of the Exorcist follow ups. Laughable movie. Shame on Anthony.

  5. Interesting. Do think that the Vatican have a lot of secrets to tell. If Discovery will be airing a reality show for this many would surely wanted to watch, and I do think viewers would think that it’s still scripted or plotted. Might doubt if its really true or what.

Melissa Harris-Perry said, “Media, especially reality TV, encourage us to think less and buy more. They capture our emotions and silence our inner critic.”

Not to beat a dead horse, but one can make the identical statement regarding our incessant drug cartel commercials – with pretty much the same effect.

    ain’t that the truth …

  8. I have two ideas for reality shows for the Catholic Church on the Travel Channel: The first is a show on how the Vatican helped fugitive Nazi’s travel to South America at the end of World War II. The second is a show on how the Catholic Church helped fugitive pedophile priests travel to other cities where they could find a fresh crop of little boys.

Terrance Cottrell may be an expert on what exorcism has to do with reality.

He lived in Milwaukee until into his eight year.

Came August of 2003, and one instance of religion-based exorcism connected resoundingly with reality.

Terrance, in reality, was cured of autism.

Terrance, in reality, was cured for life.

The cure for life is death. I prefer not to be cured of autism… Or cured for life.

I was once molested by another student in the shower room in the Sturgeon Bay High School. I did not report it because the P.E. teacher encouraged other boys to despise me. I sought not to be cured for life by other people in Sturgeon Bay. Not everyone has parents who really understand. Not so long thereafter, we moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The P.E. teacher there treated me with decency and respect, as did my fellow students. Not everyone’s family can move to another state to escape from an abusive teacher.

Molested children are sometimes cured for life. Suicide.

I live, and I remember. Where is that whistle? This blawg?

When you next meet Terrance, ask him for his understanding of what exorcism has to do with reality. All I can do is guess. What would I know of abuse? (emoticon for crying)

  10. The Catholic church has much more experience molesting children. I’d rather see a reality show where we watch the investigation, prosecution, and conviction of pedophile priests.

What does exorcism have to do with reality?

  11. Blouise’s exact words:

“I used to watch those channels all the time … now I never do.”

While I didn’t watch them all the time, I did watch them, on occasion. Like her, no more…
