The Vatican is teaming up with the Discovery Channel in a reality show based on the Vatican’s case files and interviews with its top exorcists. While Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon might have had to wait for a Vatican murder to get access to the Vatican files, Discovery can do so with the promise of a reality show. It just shows that even the Pope cannot resist the temptation of a reality show any more than Sarah Palin.
Discovery president and GM Clark Bunting insists that “[t]he work these folks do, and their conviction in their beliefs, make for fascinating stories.” Do you remember when the History Channel had history, MTV had music, and the Discovery Channel had science?
The idea of the exorcists and Palin sharing the same green room at Discovery, however, is promising given her earlier interaction with a witch doctor.

Interesting quote:
Melissa Harris-Perry said, “Media, especially reality TV, encourage us to think less and buy more. They capture our emotions and silence our inner critic.”

Like the quote. (I like her, as well.)

rafflaw, The one that I was thinking about is by The Cars, but I can’t find the lyrics…, so “nevermind…” 🙂 (I think that there was a discussion about “the good old days” in another thread…
Blouise made my point by saying that she used to watch them, but doesn’t watch them now
Can they work any witches in? I hear Christine is looking for work – the lady, not the car.
perfection is so boring

I wonder if the Pope himself will make a guest appearance on the Vatican Reality show? How can any show with the name Vatican, be real? Maybe they can use the airtime to pull out all of the files that show how many pedophiles they have hidden from the police. I think Hans had it right!
Anon nurse, that song was the theme for the Archie Bunker series,All in the Family. I think it was called, “Those were the Days”.
Woosty,
Pardon my imperfection. I can assure you it was not intestinal.
don’t B-a-BooB….it’s Woosty…;)
Wootsey,
“ooooooh the Rite looks scarey and see-able. Of course anything with Anthony Hopkins is both scarey and worth seeing.”
That’s what I thought too. He’s just one of those actors who has the ability to get you to hang on to every word that comes out of his mouth.
ooooooh the Rite looks scarey and see-able. Of course anything with Anthony Hopkins is both scarey and worth seeing.
I think there has been a profound challenge to the way the world processes fundamental reality. We have a mass exposure to the ‘man behind the curtain’ with the advent of the net and hyper technological expectations. Much of the world acts virtually and expects mere mortals of flesh and blood to respond accordingly….we will see a lot more fundamentalist thinking and groping as these changes and challenges are reconciled culturally….
So, another ‘reality’ show where sociopaths can display their garbage for public consumption.
The saddest part is that there will be some marginal psychotics and schizophrenics out there in TV land that will come to believe they are possessed by the devil & not seek effective treatment.

I used to watch those channels all the time … now I never do.
eniobob,
The reason “The Exorcist” is now playing is because of the upcoming release of “The Rite”. I think it’s supposed to hit theaters the last week of January.

Remember when reality shows had actual reality in them? There is a reason why Ghost Hunters is on the SciFi network…
Funny, the original Exorcist with Linda Blairs spinning head and levitation and “other” interesting things shes able to do is playing in our area tomw night .
is there any cure when person got exorcist ?? how to avoid exorcist?? Security Guard and Toronto Security Guard
Last weekend I watched “The Last Exorcism”. It ranks as one of the all-time worst movies I have ever seen. Those of you who like watching the sitcom “The Office” might enjoy it. It is filmed in exactly the same style.
Will the exorcism show be a hit? Probably. Will it be a bigger hit than Sarah Palin’s show? Probably.
I’d be much more impressed if the catholic church cooperated with a show called The Pedo Files.

What’s the name of that song? “… for those were the good old days…”
Pete,
Which would be more disturbing?
Finding out vampires are real? or,
Finding out werewolves are real?
Either way, the news is disturbing, but I’m going to vote werewol, er, management.
What would be more disturbing?
1. Discovery focus researched this and found that people wanted to see the show? or,
2. Discovery’s management just took a stab and will see if it flys?
