State of the Union Wishlist

In light of the all the hoopla about President Obama’s upcoming State of the Union speech on Tuesday night, I have been thinking of all of the ideas and issues that I would like the President to address in his talk with the country. Since I am a Bears fan and  used to dreaming,  here it goes.

The first issue that I would like to hear President Obama discuss on Tuesday is the Economy.  I don’t mean just “jump starting” the economy. I want to hear about the plans to reach full employment. I am not suggesting that the unemployment rate should be zero, but if we are not shooting for that, how will we get the unemployment rate down to an “acceptable” number? I want the President to tell me that he will be starting government jobs programs to assist cities and states with their infrastructure. I am talking about WPA type programs to give every willing worker a job. Whether it is rebuilding and renovating our National Parks and National Monuments, or helping out in State parks and recreation areas; the result is the same. Having jobs that pay people to actually help our country and get paychecks to people who will spur the economy as a whole.

The next issue that I would like the President to talk about is one that will probably be very contentious. I want him to challenge the Congress, on national TV to reintroduce the Assault Weapons Ban to control some of our deadliest weapons. That would include restricting the size of the magazines or clips that could be used on semi-automatic weapons. I would also want to hear that the gun show loop-hole must be “fixed” and made part of the legislation. This will create a firestorm from the Right and from the Left, but if he really wants to help save lives, this is a good first step.

When I read in the papers and on this blog that the Republicans and some Democrats want to repeal and/or defund “Obama care”, my blood just boils. To that end, President Obama needs to outline every single benefit of the health care reform legislation that will die or not be initiated if the legislation is repealed or starved to death financially. When the public hears what the Insurance industry funded Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats want everyday Americans to lose or do without, Americans everywhere will “inform” the Republicans and the Democrats just what is important to them. Since I am dreaming here, I would also want the President to challenge any legislator who votes to repeal or defund the legislation to give up their government-funded health insurance. If you don’t want Americans to have insurance coverage, you shouldn’t take any coverage from the government.  What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Finally, the President should reaffirm his vow to end any and all torture by our military and intelligence authorities. The President could reignite his base by going one step further to say that he will be instructing Attorney General Holder to investigate any past instances of torture during the Bush Administration including the actors and the officials who authorized it. It will be a bombshell, but justice deserves this kind of bombshell.  If he really has grown a set, he could also mention Pvt. Manning by name and vow to end his solitary confinement and treat him like any other person who has only been charged of a crime.

Now that I have gone out on a limb to give you several of the items on my State of the Union wish list, it is time for you to go out on that limb and tell us what you want the President to discuss on Tuesday evening. It will be interesting to see if the President actually discusses any of our items. This will give us something to talk about after the Bears beat the Packers today!

I’m sorry, but genocide is not nice. I would be a racist if I thought only Obama wanted the genocide. But Bush and McCain wanted it too. Pelosi and Reid do as well.

And lily-white Teddy Kennedy started the genocide.

The problem lies in your own inadequate thinking, not any racism on my part.

My point is that Obama could stop the genocide, but he isn’t going to do that.

Oh gee, I wonder why not?

    LOL

  2. rafflaw:

Obama intends to expand government to FORCE compliance to government regulations. This is not free enterprise; it is fascism. It is exactly what Mussolini did.

You act as if it is a natural occurrence. It is not. It is not an economy that developed naturally like the agriculturalist age, the industrial age, or the recent technological and communications age.

These spontaneously developed among people undirected from above by governments. You are seeing and advocating a collectivist command and control economy. It is fascist and Marxist. To work (and it never does) you must strip citizens of liberty and freedom at gunpoint.

Which you apparently do not mind.

  3. Here’s one of Keith Olbermann’s best SOTU “tweets.”

“Rep. Bachmann’s response expected to focus on how Founding Father John Quincy Jones ended slavery while producing ‘We Are The World'”

  4. Buddha Is Laughing: “Oops. Racist Jesus strikes again!”

LOL, yes, less IS more; I love how you do that. 🙂

  5. Tootie,
It is a shame that you cannot see the forest through the trees. When Obama says invest in clean energy, it means finances and gives tax credits for Private companies to succeed in that new technology! It doesn’t take new programs to put an emphasis on math and science. At least not in adding federal employees. “China not waiting to revamp economy is a new government program (which is unconstitutional).” I don’t know what you are saying here. He just stated that China is ahead of us in some of these crucial green industries and we should invest in getting Private American companies up to speed and keep the green jobs here. What are you talking about? I don’t need to know Obama code, but I may need to learn your language.

  6. 2T: “He is a dirty rotten collectivist scoundrel, genocidal maniac, and thief who wants to give all our money and our heritage away to foreigners and commit genocide on Americans of European descent, and then send them a bill for it.

In some quarters that would be called the money shot. If I were reading a wingnut posting that would scream ‘racist’ to me but… oh, wellll… careful there 2T, your racism is showing.

I’ve read the same thing on ‘Stormfront’, KKK and other white-power sites. It’s the undercurrent that runs throughout the teabagger movement, the birthers and the drive to ‘take back our country’. It’s all about Obama’s black half. It’s the bridge too far for about 20% of the population. It’s all about race.

  7. rafflaw:

LOL…you haven’t figured out “Obama Code” yet. Every suggestion for the future is an unstated government program.

Clean energy is a government program.
Smarter kids is a government program (unconstitutional). Competitiveness with the Asian tigers is a government program. The fastest trains are a new government program (and unconstitutional).
Infrastructure is a new government program (most of it unconstitutional).
Laying a new foundation for economic growth is a new government program (unconstitutional). What’s the new foundation? Communism?
China not waiting to revamp economy is a new government program (which is unconstitutional).
Putting an emphasis on math and science is a new government program (a straight out lie).
Avoiding a second place America is a new and unconstitutional government program.

The list is far bigger than above.

I’d say he recommended two to three trillion dollars more in spending. Crank out the funny money printing press. And he lies about Americans finding jobs while he keeps letting in foreigners to steal them away (cheap labor).

    Liar liar pants on fire.

He is a dirty rotten collectivist scoundrel, genocidal maniac, and thief who wants to give all our money and our heritage away to foreigners and commit genocide on Americans of European descent, and then send them a bill for it.

  8. Rafflaw,

It would unfortunately be foolish to hold ones breath for anything to come out of the Congress. The Republcans were sore losers and now they’re sore winners. They haven’t come up with anything new and they’re next big fight is to tighten the screws on abortion coverage. Gee, I thought the number 1 problem was that we need about 3 million jobs. I guess they’ll get around t proposing something on that later.

  9. Slartibartfast, You have a real life? That takes you away from the blawg? That ain’t right. I’ll miss your postings.

Take care , have fun and come back. 🙂

  10. Slart,
Thanks! You are correct about those pesky rogue “n”‘s!! It is too late to type correctly. See ya tomorrow!

  11. Thanks raff. (I think an ‘n’ went rogue, though – I assume you meant ‘None of it would ever have happened…’. I wish we had gotten more in the past, too but I am more concerned with what we’re going to get in the next six years and as I said before, I don’t think that we’re going to get much of anything without President Obama’s help…

Okay, now I’m going away for real… 😉

    G’nite all!

  12. Slart,
you are right about the additional positive gains. I do agree with Buddha that it hasn’t been enough, but as you say, one of it would never have happened in a McCain/Palin administration.

  13. Buddha said:

    “His one modicum of success…”

Other than the fact that we are not in a depression, we still have an auto industry, ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ has been repealed, financial reform has been enacted (and don’t tell me that an agency that Elizabeth Warren sets up wont do any good), the TARP has been mostly repaid (at a profit), etc… How many of these would we have gotten under a Republican president? Even health insurance reform (to call it what it is) has value in it – children remain on insurance until age 26, the first steps have been taken to fight discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions, the Medicare doughnut hole has been closed…

In any case, I liked his speech tonight (Tootie’s ignorant bile was just confirmation that the president did a good job – Tootles, it must really burn you how presidential he was ;-)) – we’ll see what comes of it… (^..^ * (many), I agree with you about the ‘reorganizing government’ talk…)

What I got out of the speech tonight was inspiration to do… other things (at least for a while). Everyone take care and talk amongst yourselves…

  14. Tootie,
You must have been sleeping through the real speech. He did not suggest more government. He actually talked about reducing it.
    Lottakatz,
I am interested in the reorganization, but I am not holding my breath. I do not believe that the Republicans will go along with any substantive program introduced by Obama or the Dems. To do so, in their minds, would produce a victory for Obama.

  15. Awful speech.

More federal government. More federal government. More federal government.

    Oh, and MORE federal government.

80 percent of Americans will get to travel on high speed rail and get sexually molested by…you guessed it…more federal government (TSA officials).

I don’t want to travel with the perverts, thieves, and thugs in the Democratic Party either. Thank you very much. I prefer my own transportation in which I can lock the door and keep you out of my face. I feel this way is because, unlike Democrats, I’m not sheep, cattle, or pigs who needs to be herded into mass transit.

And like Mussolini, Obama thinks “our kids” belong to the state. They are to be educated for the goals of the state and not for themselves. They are not to be educated to discover who they are and what they might be, but to meet the goals of the fascist overlords.

“It is the State which educates its citizens in civic virtue,
gives them a consciousness of their mission, and welds them into unity.” Benito Mussolini

    No doubt, Obama would agree.

The unalienable right of parents to raise their children and educate them in the light of what is best for the child is to be sublimated to the goals of the fascist collectivist state Obama adores.

What a wicked, evil, little man.
