Using Lara Logan

-Submitted by David Drumm (Nal), Guest Blogger

The Right is on a crusade to show that Islam is evil. The use of the attack on Lara Logan to further that agenda is despicable. The assault was almost certainly perpetrated by pro-Mubarak thugs who were sent out to rough up journalists and protestors. Now the Mubarak supporters here in the U.S. are using the attack on Lara Logan to further their own political agenda.

Right wing blogger Debbie Schlussel is one of the Mubarak apologists using the assault on Lara Logan to push her hatred of Muslims.

Her claim that Muslims are evil, when it was Egyptian soldiers, almost surely Muslim, that rescued Lara Logan, is a prima facie absurdity.

I am under no illusions about this leg of the Abrahamic Triad. There is no such thing as a “Religion of Peace.” When someone believes that Jehovah/Allah/Yahweh is giving the orders, any atrocity is justifiable.

Religions are engaged in a continuous struggle for survival. The priests/mullahs/rabbis are not about to give up their power without a fight. A common defensive tactic is for one religion to show how bad the other religions are, a form of “comparative exceptionalism.” Of course, each religion gets to define what constitutes good and bad, so the reasoning is strictly circular, that is, strictly fallacious.

Separation of church/mosque/temple and state is essential to check the power of religion.

  1. MFM, learning curve = fail.

“…no one here cares why you are so insensitive to this matter.” nice stab at irony though, srsly. 🙂

  2. Why you, Lottakatz, think that it is OK for a person like Lara Logan to trick herself in the streets of Egypt while she is on assignment being paid and representing the U.S.A. is something only you know, and no one here cares why you are so insensitive to this matter.

USA, USA, USA, USA, USA!!!!! 🙂

She does indeed (“often uses hard sarcasm to make her point”) but if it’s the sole, repeated contribution to a thread it becomes witless and ugly; she needs to refine her sense of comedic timing and be cautious regarding overuse of the device.

You MFM, need to get better at using your tool or comfortable with being thought of a hateful troll, at least on this thread.

  4. We can only hope and pray that Lara Logan learned her lesson from prancing around like she did in Egypt and now carries some condoms in her pockets.

  5. Did anyone wonder how people act and react with the effect or in the present cases of MFM and T Affect ones mental faculty….

  6. Did Lara Logan file a police report on the incident? Most whores don’t. 🙂

  7. Otteray Scribe, you are completely incorrect in your attacks, but thank you so very much for proving my right on the issues that facts do scare some people, especially the uninformed and the uneducated. Have a fantastic day too. 🙂

  8. Chan, regarding Wisconsin stats,

Koch brothers move up on Forbes list
    Wichita Business Journal
    Date: Thursday, September 23, 2010, 8:56am CDT

Wichitan Charles Koch and his brother, New Yorker David Koch, ranked fifth on Forbes magazine’s list of the 400 richest Americans.

Charles and David Koch, the owners of Wichita-based Koch Industries Inc., were ranked fifth on Forbes magazine’s list of the nation’s 400 richest Americans.
The brothers wealth was listed at $21.5 billion apiece. That’s better than last year when their wealth was listed at $16 billion. The brothers ranked ninth on the list back then.

The Forbes list was topped by Bill Gates at $54 billion, followed by Warren Buffett at $45 billion. Oracle’s Larry Ellison was third at $27 billion, and Walmart’s Christy Walton was fourth at $24 billion.

“UPDATE: The Americans for Prosperity group, a Tea Party group that is a Koch Brothers front, has put up a website and petition called www .standwithwalker.com. (close the space between the w’s and the dot- it’s a link) The website attacks all collective bargaining – not just for public employees’ unions. Americans for Prosperity is also organizing a rally tomorrow in Wisconsin to support Gov. Walker.

Why are the Koch Brothers so interested in Wisconsin? They are a major business player in the state.

    This from Think Progress:

Koch owns a coal company subsidiary with facilities in Green Bay, Manitowoc, Ashland and Sheboygan; six timber plants throughout the state; and a large network of pipelines in Wisconsin. While Koch controls much of the infrastructure in the state, they have laid off workers to boost profits. At a time when Koch Industries owners David and Charles Koch awarded themselves an extra $11 billion of income from the company, Koch slashed jobs at their Green Bay plant:”

  9. michellefrommadison: What is wrong with you? Since your appearance in this blawg, you have spouted some of the sickest, most depraved crap I have ever seen. Ranging from advocating the death penalty for misdemeanors up to this latest screed. Being raped is about the bad behavior of the rapist, not how the victim dresses, or what she is doing for a living; in this case, reporting the news with a news crew. You contact with the real world is tenuous at best. I don’t even think there are medications for your condition.

You are one sick puppy and a big time loser in the race to become a human being.

  10. MFM,

Nancy Grace needs your help quick…… What you said is the meanest sickest shit I have ever seen out of a woman’s mouth…. You might wanna think about that…. Karma is a bitch and even life boats sink….In you case….they stink….

  11. Lottakatz,

You are 100% correct which is why the organizing is going on and why the “protesting” is occurring. And … anyone who thinks the Republicans aren’t planning on violence is nuts. They want to win this war for their corporate masters and they will stop at nothing to do so.

The Unions in every state are fully aware of this as are their members.

  12. Coming soon to Wisconsin, “Matewan 2”.

    Bigger lies!
    Bigger oppression!
    Bigger explosions!

Staring a cast of thousands, featuring in the Koch Bros. as “The Dirty Venal Fascist Bastards”.

  13. Elaine,

No worries for the joke begins: El Cid and his camel walk into a bar …..

If we stick to the deserts of Nevada Luxor-ious accommodations can be found … if however we are talking about Egypt …

  14. If you haven’t been watching Maddow the last few days then watch the embedded video in this story, this is what is happening in Wisconsin and no one was on the story but Maddow.

The important numbers are these, union membership in America is 11.9%. Private industry is at 6.something % and public unions are at 34.something %. The largest 2 public unions are the only – ONLY – counterbalance to big business’ campaign contributions and money spent on elections. Of the top 10 players in 2012, after Citizens United 2 were the big unions, SEIU (Service Employees International Union) and AFSCME (American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees).

Once AFSCME is broken there is no – NO – impediment to the business community simply buying all elections. SEIU is part of the private union percentage, 6%, nothing to worry about. This is about the destruction of AFSCME.

Think about the numbers regarding composition of union participation. Public sector unions are the last bastion in the class war. The very last one. If the states are successful in busting these unions there is virtually no large organized force for the working class. This is IMO the last battle in the class war. The last battle in the class war.

And like Mubarak, the big corporate funders are bussing in counter-demonstrators. I expect them to use violence through agents provocateur and do absolutely everything possible to win this battle. This moment can not be overestimated in importance in the history of labor and the history of social justice in America.

  15. Bouise,

Are they “dry” tours? I would like to wet my whistle in the evening…if you know what I mean. BTW, would the El Cid Desert Tours provide us with Luxor-ious accommodations?

  16. Elaine,

I hear EL Cid’s Desert Tours has the best rates. They also provide box lunches. 😉
