Perry Prays For Pollution? Perry Tells CBN That He Asks God To Intervene With The EPA

Texas Governor Rick Perry appears to be out doing his opponents who have made the curtailment or actual elimination of the EPA a major part of the Republican presidential election (here and here). While Newt Gingrich wants to disband the EPA, Perry has brought in the big guns and announced that he actually prays to God to seek divine intervention in curtailing pollution laws.

Perry made this statement on CBN:

“Frankly I pray for the president every day. I pray for his wisdom, I pray that God will open his eyes. I wish this president would turn back the health care law that’s been passed, ask that his EPA back down these regulations that are causing businesses to hesitate to spend money.”

It appears that he is praying for divine help to rollback on regulations designed to protect the environment and health of citizens. I do not recall that part of biblical scriptures, but I may have missed it. Of course, this is supposed to be a private as opposed to a political moment: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:6)

Yet the Bible does say “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:22, 24). Thus, it is possible to offer the following prayer: “Dear Lord, bless your humble servants and reduce the burden for our corporations by rescinding parts 239 through 282 of 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act as well as the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) under authority of the Clean Air Act (42 U.S.C. 7401 et seq.).” That is so much more constructive than those silly “end world poverty” or “bring peace to the world” prayers.

  1. Forget anyone’s personal views on religion, the idea that this man would pray to his God for a dismantling of the EPA so businesses wouldn’t be stifled is astounding and I think blasphemous. What God in any religion is interested in the economic bottom lines of specific businesses? What religious canon of any sort formulates it. Perhaps its Lord’s Prayer is”

Our Father, Who Art in Heaven, Hallowed Be Thy Name,
Thy Corporations Run, Their Profit Done, Their Markets Won,
They Ascend in Corporatus Unitis, We Bend our Knees in Gratis,
Bless Them Lord Our Father, Grant our Masters No Bother.

  2. Another example of the huge disconnect between the faith that
those on the right profess and the policies they pursue. Jesus in the parable of the tree and its fruit in Mt. 7 says, “By
their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from
thornbushes, or figs from thistles?”(NIV) The policies pursued
by Perry and other so called evangelicals would seem to go
against what the Bible teaches about caring for this world and caring for each other. By catering to the needs of the rich and the powerful the rest of us end up with thornbushes and thistles. As a Cristian I sometimes wonder which God or god they are praying to.

  3. culheath,

Maybe he could have this happen, I feel sorry for the child in this instance:

Mich. boy killed and eaten by dog; mother, her boyfriend charged

CBS/WWJ) LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – While 5-year-old Michigan boy Kyle Holland slept in his Lincoln Park home last July, he was killed and partially eaten by a dog believed to be part wolf.

The dog was kept inside the house.

  4. So far, Obama is the only viable candidate… saved only by Huntsman….in my opinion…The GOPs Field of Candidates announced and unannounced entire IQ’s would be roughly to the equivalent of the number of zippers on a pair of Levi’s 501s’….

  5. culheath,

Maybe HenMan would…I hear from the blawg he has some bobcats…Maybe…just maybe…

  6. No K, we are geting the candidates YOU deserve.

Another bible study would be “by the fruit ye shall know the tree. A good tree can not bear bitter fruit”

So, if Gov Perry (or really any of the 5 GOP candidates who have declared God chose them to run) pray for things and those things don’t happen the bitter fruit of their failure would indicate that the candidate was not a good tree.

  7. Rick Perry’s Candidacy Crowds Pews on Right: Margaret Carlson

“One month after Texas Governor Rick Perry told the Des Moines Register that he felt called to run for president, he is scheduled to answer the summons at an event this Saturday in South Carolina.
To get a sense of what a Perry presidential campaign might be like, his appearance last weekend at a gathering of Christian conservatives in Houston is instructive. The event offered high- tech visuals, thumping Christian rock music, country singers and plenty of old-time religion.”
