Texas Governor Rick Perry has revealed one of the main distinctions that he sees between himself and Barack Obama. He insists that American needs a president who is “in love” with America. As someone who previously indicated that he was contemplating secession of his state from the United States, this appears to be a case of “separation secession making the heart grow fonder.”
In Waterloo, Perry put forward his test of love. He told the audience “I think you want a president who is passionate about America — that’s in love with America.” Clearly that is meant to exclude Obama.
Perry clearly has become more enraptured by the union since his contemplation of armed divorce in 2009: “There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that.”

Secession-threatening putz now talks about “loving America”?
The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
Swarthmore, Raff,
I guess the real question is:
Did Perry’s dad appoint anyone on the Supreme Court?
Blouise,
Yes, but sometimes a Palin will slip through the ranks.
rafflaw I don’t know. Republicans are really liking what Perry is saying. I meant progressives, above.
Swarthmore,
Perry may be leadin now, but he will continue to shoot his mouth off and he eventually will come down to earth.
http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/perry-leads-new-national-poll Perry takes a commanding lead. Guess the country might really be ready for another Texan. Wonder how many progressive will sit this one out.
An ultra conservative, ego-manical, uber-Christian Governor from Texas wants to run for President. We’re still in the tank from the last such experience. I think we’ve seen quite enough of that nightmare scenario. This clown can’t even tout his personal pedigree or vaunted education (not that those facts helped the last Texas bozo).
rafflaw,
Don’t think so. Republicans are big on seniority … one has to have paid their dues … Bush I, Dole, McCain … Bush II was only given the nod because everybody in the upper echelon knew Bush I would be running the show and felt they owed it to daddy ’cause they had let him down so badly in ’92.
Rick Perry is the man to get every penny possible out of the rabble. Romney is their “Presidential” guy.
Mike Appleton:
“I believe that Gov. Perry’s primary love interest is Gov. Perry.”
as it is with almost all modern politicians.
Mike A.,
You are spot on.
Blouise,
Perry will be able to raise a lot of money, and I hope he is the Republican candidate.
Bachmann bombed … too much baggage but Perry is just perfect for teabaggers … perfect … he’ll raise a lot of money from the rabble and I’m sure Romney has promised him a suitable reward.
I believe that Gov. Perry’s primary love interest is Gov. Perry.
For Perry to claim that he speaks for the military is criminal. This is a guy who thinks Texas should secede from the Union and that they have the legal right to do so. He is just a new version of the “love it or leave it” radicals that have been running the Republican party for years.
It’s pretty clear, given the platforms and candidates across the parties, across the political desert……we are screwed.
Our political discourse and our woeful media have been allowing politicians to “forget” even their most recent past with little consequence. My only hope is that hypocrisy and hubris gets him in the end.
Another sound bite:
“On Sunday night he told a Waterloo audience that “One of the reasons that I’m running for president is I want to make sure that every young man and woman who puts on the uniform of the United States respects highly the president of the United States,” he said.” (from the following Joan Walsh article)
