Do Not Handle The Fruit: European Cleric Warns Muslim Women Not To Handle Cucumbers, Bananas, and Other Sexually Suggestive Produce

It appears that cucumber farmers are equivalent to pornographers in some religious circles. We previously saw how a grocer in Iraq was killed for putting fruits and vegetable together that might be sexually suggestive. Now, an Islamic cleric in Europe has issued his own warning to Muslim women not to get close to cucumbers, bananas or other sexually suggestive fruit.

The published warning from the Islamic site el-Senousa includes instructions for men to cut up cucumbers and bananas before women can come into contact with them to protect them from temptation and immorality. Perhaps stores should store the fruits and vegetables in brown paper bags behind the counter with the Penthouse and Hustler copies.

Carrots and zucchini also were added to the list of demonic fruits and vegetables.

It appears that it is the Atkins diet or damnation.

  1. If I read the story correctly, the cleric in question did make those pronouncements, but some of his colleagues are saying, in so many words, that he is an idiot for making them.

The bad part is, even bad preachers have their followers who take them seriously. That is true of every major religion I know of.

  2. Okeydoke, I hope he is telling all my brothers in Islam to avoid fruit that is suggestive to them. My goodness, we don’t have enough real issues?

  3. “That, as I’m sure you knew, is the song feminists love to decry as the Christmas Date Rape Song.”

    Anon,

Can you supply a source for that allegation?”

    Anon,

I see you’ve commented on another thread, so I’m still waiting for the source of your allegation that “Baby It’s Cold Outside” is known among
Feminists as the “Christmas Date Rape Song”.

  4. “anon, I have about decided you are capable of starting a fight in an empty room.” (OS)

  5. @Bette Noir–“Devils Dumplings” indeed…

    @anon–The genius of Python, Bravo!

  6. “That, as I’m sure you knew, is the song feminists love to decry as the Christmas Date Rape Song.”

Can you supply a source for that allegation?

“Your story of the origin myth of Political Correctness is very well done. Disseminated far and wide to cover up liberal behavior against free speech.”

So you’re not (HORRORS!) a liberal, or eve middle of the roader. I’m shocked, because sometimes you seem to pretend to be, but now I know with your FIRE reference that you’re just another Libertarian, albeit one who hates women.

  7. “What the feminists don’t say, and Mike throws in with them here, is that much of modern feminism is all about judgmental bullshit and controlling men’s natural, and good sexual tendencies by how again?”

    Anon,

Do you mean “men’s natural, and good sexual tendencies” to mean like giving Las Vegas hookers multiple orgasms and which you admitted to doing recently in another thread at this blog? Listen Anon, providing you’re having consensual sex with an adult, I could care less about yours, or anyone else’s sex lives. I made a personal statement about the fact that I’ve never used, nor had the desire to resort to prostitution for my sexual gratification. That others do it is fine with me as long as the workers are in it of their free will and are earning a living. It should be legalized, but it hasn’t been because keeping it illegal is another way to control women.

However, when you make statements like the one above all you are doing is revealing your own fear of women and your own need to control women. To you controlling them is accomplished by paying them. As long as they are willing and free it’s none of my concern. I admit though that while I do think some men resort to prostitutes for good reasons, (their age, their looks, their inability to be part of a relationship, etc.) I think a good many others do so for the pleasure of controlling women and in their mind putting women in their place.

Let’s cut to the chase though, shall we? You obviously don’t like me in the sense of what I write here and what I believe. You take every opportunity to
disparage me and my writing, that’s obvious and of course your prerogative. I do affect some people that way and even understand why this is the case. It mystifies me though why you give me in particular such attention, since I’m simply not important in the scheme of things. Disparage me if you will and I will answer in a less heated though more pointed vein.
Isn’t this a waste of your time though, when you could be making a variety of good arguments to express your point of view? I’ve even shown you in the past that I can myself find ways to disparage me, better then you ever could. Seriously though, isn’t it a bore?

  8. anon, I have about decided you are capable of starting a fight in an empty room.

  9. Mike, sigh, once more you are demonstrating your ignorance.

You like Baby It’s Cold Outside?

That, as I’m sure you knew, is the song feminists love to decry as the Christmas Date Rape Song.

There’s no such thing as political correctness then? And liberals don’t think political correctness is real?

Your story of the origin myth of Political Correctness is very well done. Disseminated far and wide to cover up liberal behavior against free speech.

Sadly it’s not true at all. And many liberals with their heads non-rectally-dominated recognize this.

  10. anon,

I could try explaining it to you, but I can’t understand it for you.

So, I am not even going to try, because I have a strong preference for being reality-based and know when some cases are hopeless.

  11. “I love your sweeping generalizations, they shed light on a certain brand of politically correct dumbassed fetishistic truthiness.

    Anon,
First let’s deconstruct your choice of words particularly “politically. correct”.
This was a term developed by the extreme right-wing in this country when they were being called on the racist, sexist and homophobic blather they were spewing. It was a tactic that gave leave to their use of code words, by
accusing the accuser of being unreasonably authoritarian and humorless.

As in “don’t you understand that when I a white man am talking in stereotypical black dialect, I’m not a racist, I’m just having fun”. Or in the alternative on a subject you know much about: “When I call all women “Ho’s”, I’m just kidding around. So in itself your use of the term “politically
correct” says more about you, than it does about me and yes I do mean that in a pejorative sense. As for “truthiness” that was a term coined by Stephen Colbert to describe the Bush administrations right-wing lying. I know you dislike me, label me what you wish, but I’m hardly a right-winger. However, in both instances your line of discourse seems a strangely familiar tactic, one in use by the likes of Karl Rove and Grover Norquist.

Now your use of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was just plain stupid. Why, because as anyone who has read me here would surmise, I’m a free love kind of guy. I don’t see anything wrong with seduction, the theme of the song, especially when the person being seduced is willingly complicit as in the classic Dean and Doris duet:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=–2Mwp7X-X0

However, the song might scandalize you, because Dean doesn’t anywhere imply he wants to pay her for sex.

  12. pete,

I’m trying to resist the naturally occurring joke for which you provided a segue.
