Two-Thirds of Polled Pastors Reject Evolution

A survey by the Southern Baptist Convention shows that 73% of Protestant pastors reject the concept of evolution — even when asked if they believe God used evolution to create humans. Forty-six percent maintained that the Earth is only roughly 6000 years old despite tests showing rocks that are millions of years old.

When asked if “God used evolution to create people,” 73% not only disagreed, but 64% “strongly disagreed.”

The poll of 1,000 American Protestant pastors also found that 74% believe the biblical Adam and Eve were literal people. Thus, roughly three-fourths of pastors believe that God literally began the human race with two actual people in the Garden of Eden.

Once again such polls only show how blasphemers like Bill Nye The Science Guy and scientists continue to live in some fantasy world with their carbon dating, telescopes, and fossils.

Why does science and God have to be in conflict?
    =========================================
Probably because we have not discovered the unity particle yet.

  2. We can buy some of the Pastor preaching but the assertion that Adam and Eve were literal is not backed up by the scriptures or even science. Had either of them been literal there would be guidebooks or even some short notes as to you know, how to do it. Just having the name Adam would not seem to give the guy a clue as to where to, you know, put the thing. It does not speak for itself despite the little blurb at the top of the blog. We have a guy in the 5th Grade Class here named Adam and he does not have a clue.
Likewise Eve was told that babies came from heaven by her folks and she is a believer and she wont have a thing to do with Adam. I could go on but you adults would just roll your eyes to heaven like you always do when we try to explain things in simple terms. And by the way, we employ the term literate, not literal.

  3. Well science has also demonstrated DNA lineage back to one couple…hmmm
People are closed minded and shallow on both sides of the issue.
Hopefully, the majority are able to see truth in both science and faith.

  4. mespo, they have brainwashed the sheeple with their crazy propaganda. What bothers me is their power is so great that many politicians kowtow to them and claim to believe things they really don’t, for fear they might be somehow branded as unbelievers.

Believing is one thing. Believing in know-nothing idiocy is quite something else.

  5. Bron,

“If God created it all then science is contained in the creation and the conflict is within man and not science or God.”

    How about this:

    1: God created man
    2: Man created science
3: Therefore the conflict started with God.

  6. No Bron. Proverbs, allegories and metaphors are meant to be interpreted abstractly, not literally.

The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence.

All that glitters is not gold.

    Shallow streams are noisy.

Don’t cross the bridge until you get to it.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

  7. OS:

that is what it means, it has expanded to mean other things. The original interpretation is correct and it has come to mean other things over time.

  8. Bron, the conflict does not come because of belief in a Supreme Being. The conflict comes when people deny scientific proof, physical evidence and logic in favor of a literal interpretation of what is clearly an allegory. And I might add, one that was written during the bronze age when superstition reigned and there was no knowledge of physics, geology, and astronomy as we know it today.

There is no conflict with those ministers and believers who understand religious texts such as the Bible and Qur’an are full of proverbs, metaphors and allegories. It is those who insist on a literal interpretation that create the problem.

Here is an example. Suppose we ask someone what this means: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

Using the logic these folks used, the ONLY possible interpretation of that is that you should read the book first.

  9. Why does science and God have to be in conflict? If God created it all then science is contained in the creation and the conflict is within man and not science or God.

  10. The polling of the general population runs along the same percentages with a recent poll finding that about 65% of people believe in angels. Is there a poll being done on how many people believe in devolution? If there is sign me up.

  11. And people wonder why I keep hoping for that giant meteor. Maybe, in a million years, the next species will deserve to survive.

  12. Mic Check … MIC CHECK

When is reality a fantasy” … WHEN IS REALITY A FANTASY?

When dogma says so! … WHEN DOGMA SAYS SO!

  13. As ridiculous as they are, it’s hard to maintain a sense of humor about these Biblical assertions when far too many of the candidates for President and quite a number of those who serve in Congress believe this crap and allow it to guide their legislative actions (can’t call it thinking). The civilian sheep who share these views are just as wacky as the aforementioned politicos, but they don’t have legislative powers to cause the kind of damage that can be done by the pols. They’re mostly just annoying.

  14. Sometimes you just don’t know what to say. Just scratch your head in wonderment at people who would rather believe bronze age writings than science and empirical evidence.
