Police have identified the man shot in the midst of chewing the face off a victim in Florida. Police shot and killed Rudy Eugene, 31, after they found him along a highway naked while biting off the face of of his victim. What is more important in the future is that the cause of insane rampage appears to be “bath salts,” a new form of LSD.
Police shot Eugene after ordering him to stop repeatedly without effect. Both men were naked and Eugene continued to eat the face of the other man.
Bath salts are known to increase the temperature of users to the point that they strip off their clothing. Users are known to exhibit increased strength and much increased levels of violence.
Some accounts state that the officer shot Eugene after he refused to stop but he continued the attack wounded — and was shot repeatedly. The case raises a grey area of lethal force. Normally the shooting of an unarmed naked man would raise serious questions of excessive force. However, police are saying that bath salt users are exceptionally violent and difficult for multiple officers to control. Moreover, he was in the midst of attacking another man and clearly threatening his life.
The dangers of “excited delirium” is being looked at closely by police around the country. They appear to have the same impact as amphetamines in large doses and are sold in $20 packages with names like Ivory Wave and Vanilla Sky.

i would have been tempted to drive a stake through his heart after shooting him
There are surely psychopaths that splatter our universe. Thinking that this story is truthful is your first concern. Knowing if it is the cop or the perp that is the psychopath is the second concern.
Gene, thanks for the drug explanation.
Of course it is in the amphetamine class.
You can get a script for drugs in that class in every state, even Florida.
Darren Smith,
In re the justified shooting, we are in agreement. As Hunter Thompson said, “You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.”
In my opinon, based only upon what I have read here, I would say this was a justified shoot. The effects of certain drugs, mental illnesses, or rage can be frightening. When I was in college we leanrned of a man who threatened police with a weapon and was shot 33 times before he dropped it and ceased his threatening behavior. 33 times! In this case where whether or not he was wearing clothing made him a lesser threat I can tell you from personal experience that going hand to hand with a lunatic without any clothing is one of the worst fights you will get into. It is very difficult to hold on to them and they break free easily since they don’t have any clothing to grab onto. And a person in this condition is almost always deranged to begin with. A deputy in King County WA died confronting an unclothed deranged man several years ago.
Plus, look at the risk to the other officers. This man was chewing the face off another guy, there is no way I would go hand to hand with him, because he’ll do exactly that or much worse to me. I don’t want my face chewed off and I am sure the victim didn’t either. I wouldn’t have even risked Tasing him. What if I had missed or the device wasn’t effective (I have had it happen to me also) and in the mean time he jumped me and I am now in a fight for my life. I’m not risking it, for this guy, NO WAY. I want to come home to my wife. The officers did what they had to do here.
Wouldn’t a stun gun or tazer be just a bit more appropriate?
If Obama had a son he’d look like Rudy Eugene.
I’ll have to chime in with the chemistry brigade here.
Bath salts are not the same thing as LSD and they are chemically unrelated.
Bath salts are a form of mephedrone. Here is what wiki says about mephedrone:
“Not to be confused with methedrine, methedrone, methadone, or methylone.
Mephedrone, also known as 4-methylmethcathinone (4-MMC), or 4-methylephedrone, is a synthetic stimulant drug of the amphetamine and cathinone classes. Slang names include meph,[5] drone,[6] and MCAT.[7] It is reportedly manufactured in China and is chemically similar to the cathinone compounds found in the khat plant of eastern Africa. It comes in the form of tablets or a powder, which users can swallow, snort or inject, producing similar effects to MDMA, amphetamines, and cocaine.”
Compare with LSD, which is lysergic acid diethylamide and is a semisynthetic hallucinogen derived from ergot (a fungus that grows on rye). Wiki says:
“Lysergic acid diethylamide, abbreviated LSD or LSD-25, also known as lysergide and colloquially as acid, is a semisynthetic psychedelic drug of the ergoline family, well known for its psychological effects which can include altered thinking processes, closed and open eye visuals, synaesthesia, an altered sense of time and spiritual experiences, as well as for its key role in 1960s counterculture. It is used mainly as an entheogen, recreational drug, and as an agent in psychedelic therapy. LSD is non-addictive, is not known to cause brain damage, and has extremely low toxicity relative to dose, although in rare cases adverse psychiatric reactions such as anxiety or delusions are possible.”
There is a huge difference in them chemically speaking (they are from totally different classes of compounds) and in the effect they are totally different. LSD can be a beneficial drug. The “mystery” of the Eleusinian Mysteries of the Cults of Demeter and Persephone (of which Plato, Aristotle and Socrates were all initiates as were most of the great thinkers of Greek antiquity) is suspected by historians to be a primitive form of LSD.
Bath salts are evil.
LSD is . . . something else altogether.
The officer spoke from ignorance.

I do not believe ‘Bath Salts’ are a from of LSD. And I do not believe ‘Bath Salts’ have anything to do with actual bath salts. I believe ‘Bath Salts’ are a slang name for for this chemical compound(s).
Bath salts are not an LSD like drug, you people are retarded.
Yet marijuana continues to be a Schedule 1 drug while this substance is probably perfectly legal. Yes, this War on Drugs is really working well for everyone.
(snark)
Prohibitions have been control mechanisms for various government/religious cartels for millenniums.
My favorite government scam however is excessive taxation and regulations which promote businesses to create double bookkeeping records, one for tax purposes and one the real books for true valuation purposes. The government of course knows that these people are cheating on their taxes by not disclosing all their cash transactions and then can extort the money for campaign and political purposes. Nixon was caught on tape sending the IRS out to audit the books of his adversaries. You have to play the game in politics or you won’t be allowed on the playing field. Ask Ron Paul or Gary Johnson about that. Why do you think it is, the best we can come up with is Barack Obama and Mitt Romney? Trusting those guys to run this country is like trusting you daughter with Bill Clinton as the Chaperone.
The orginating author should be fired for such a misleading headline.
So much for the East Coast “copycat”…

Mark,
I don’t think the article is saying that he ingested bath salts. The term “bath salt” is a street name for an LSD like drug that resembles bath salts. Much in the same way that crystal meth is referred to as “glass” or “shards”, because of its resemblance to glass shards.
Whatever he ingested, this guy was off the charts. I am not a big fan of lethal force, but it may have been necessary here if this guy was immune to pain due to the salts. The scene is something out of the movie “Zombieland”.
Bath salts do not contain LSD, do not mimic LSD, and have absolutely nothing to do with LSD.
But because the arresting officer thought this guy was on some kind of “super LSD,” LSD is being linked to this crime.
” … the cause of insane rampage appears to be “bath salts,” a new form of LSD …”
The Idi Amin drug?
Power can make folks mad, even without bath salts or LSD.
It isn’t the “bath salts” per se that are so dangerous – they are ordinary bath salts. It is the chemicals with which they are laced. The same with packets of potpourri sold as harmless blends of herbs, spices, and flowers. It is interesting to note that the packets of salts and potpourri have copious warnings against ingestion (hint, hint). They are often sold at raves, clubs, and head shops for about $35 dollar for ½ gram. That’s some special potpourri or bath salt!
Some of the chemicals are agonists, slightly different in chemical compostion than those on the federal banned substance list, yet they have the same effect. Think synthetic marijuana (actually, synthetic THC). The DEA considers agonists to be included on the schedule.
Other chemical have no counterpart on the list. Some of the chemicals begin with the letters HBU, which stands for the Hebrew University in Tel Aviv. The chemicals were created for lab research of mental illnesses.
When administered to lab animals, these chemicals cause the same symptoms as those which accompany schizophrenia and other mental disorders. The researchers then try to develop treatments. These chemicals are readily available for purchase to be used in lab research. These chemicals are not included on the federal schedule as they are not considered to be agonists.

Previously in the commentary I wrote:
Bad “bath salts”, Krokodil… these wildly dangerous drugs will continue to appear on the market – often to unsuspecting users – the longer we keep up with our modern Prohibition. More drug war enforcement only speeds up this process.
Crazy people do crazy assed things…… Anything in excess is excess…. Under the circumstances the LEO probably acted responsible…. The crazy thing next is to regulate bath salts……bet someone tries…..
