Remember Terry Jones’s Dove World Outreach Center with his penchant for burning Korans? He is now turning his hate-filled message of healing to people with an Obama effigy hanging from gallows in front of his church. For those who seem to embrace religion as an excuse to hate, it is the perfect recruitment message.
Jones also includes a rainbow-striped gay pride flag and an Uncle Sam dummy in his macabre display. A child’s doll hangs from the right hand of the Obama figure with words on a trailer reading “Obama is Killing America.”
Jones’ congregation has always had more press than members but it appears to be developing cult-like qualities. Its “Academy Rulebook” tells new members to cut off most contact with family members. That is the same complaint leveled against groups like Scientology (though I believe that is only an order to cut off members who question or criticize Scientology). In this case, the church demands separation, noting “Family occasions like wedding, funerals or Birthdays are no exception to this rule. No phone calls. Exceptions can be made under certain circumstances but only after receiving permission.”
Jones is reportedly now thinking of running for president. Having just made it through the Republican primary, he may find the following reaction when going door to door:

“[…] Jones assumed full-time duties at Dove World in 2008 after his German church was closed. […]”
According to the German press the CGK still exists. They kicked him out 2008 because of his “cult of personality” and certain… irregularities with the finances of that group.
Back when the whole “burn the Qur’an day” mess was going on, there were interviews with members of that group and with Jones’ daughter in the German press. From what I remember they painted more a picture of a con man using religion as his shtick rather than a genuine believer/fanatic.
Barkin Dog,
That was Randy Newman.
