We have previously discussed the case of Rimsha Masih, an 11-year-old girl who was accused of burning pages of a Quran. In an unusual turn of events, an imam at an Islamabad mosque, identified as Khalid Jadoon Chishti, has been arrested and charged with blasphemy for planting torn pages from a Quran in Rinsha’s trash bag which contained ashes.
A member of the cleric’s mosque has come forward claiming the imam had placed the evidence in the bag and that the imam said it was a good way to get rid of Christians. The fact that the witness came forward two weeks after the girl’s arrest is troubling. Some news reports reference multiple witnesses. The imam denies the allegations.
Christians make up four percent of Pakistan’s population and claim that blasphemy convictions rely on witness testimony that are often linked to vendettas. While blasphemy convictions are common, most are thrown out on appeal, if the accused is not murdered before then.
Although bail on blasphemy charges is unheard of, a Pakistani court has order the release of Rimsha on bail. Her bail was put up by an independent advocacy group. She is expected to be placed in protective custody when she is released from the adult maximum-security prison where she has been held for three weeks in solitary confinement.
Blasphemy laws are designed to prevent criticism of religious views. When a religious worldview cannot stand on its own merit, blasphemy laws help prop it up. If their influence is jeopardized, religious leaders turn to violence and threats of violence to maintain their position of power. When this violence is sanctioned by the state, or propagated under the color of state authority, speaking your mind risks your life.
In a secular state, the separation of church and state removes the color of authority from church actions. To achieve support for its actions, the church must persuade through argument and suffer counter-arguments. The weakness of religious arguments is evidenced by the contempt many leaders espouse for secularism.

Not at all. The Muslims will point to that book as evidence for their actions. I have read passages after passages from the Koran that are on videos, and verses sent to me as chosen verses of what they think are good the best in the Koran. I carefully analyzed them giving a detailed typed response to all of them even as I do when a person changes me with the KJV. It is no different. I can say with confidence that the Koran sounds like the devil with wording that is exceptionally ornate, and nothing more. I am tired of people supporting a book that has atrocities behind it so numerous if it was a hole a universe could go through it.
I scrutinize the KJV too. I find the accusations toward it false. if it was not so I would have told you. I am not partial. I say things as they are. The religions followed what they thought was right. But Jesus followed what is right being Lord. The Muslims want to call Jesus lord as much as a devil wants to call Jesus Lord. Muslims are violent. I saw one dressed in white saying how Christians will go to hell just like a western preacher. Hell is Gods glorified face Mosses could not look at. That Muslim head butted a person on a video bloodying his mouth. A disgruntled Muslim attach a person in a Mohammed custom. I do not see Jesus in a Muslim. That is the shiny tip of the ice burg of what the People have done glorifying the Koran killing, and burning people who dammage the book. Time, and time again the Muslim will love with deception. That is loving with dissemination that KJV says we must not do. No such counsel is in the Koran. Muslims are also in deep denial about idol worship too. They physically bow in one direction just like sun worshipers.

A person condemning another cryings out blasphemy is the one committing the act of blasphemy . For people to try, and find an excuse to kill in Christ name is a blasphemous thing to do. Saving their soul by repenting will save it. Refuse, and go over the edge being engulfed in blasphemy falling into a dark pit of doing bad thrashing about permanently calling it good. A person dying in that condition will be burned up like chaff in Gods light when it shines again.

Wow. Have you gone off the rails with an extremist solution. It isn’t the Koran that’s the problem. It’s the way some extremists/fundamentalists choose to interpret it that’s the problem. That’s the point of it obviously; you don’t need convictions, you need CHARGES. Probably the reason this girl was not yet murdered is based either on pure luck or on the fact that somewhere she has a relative who is more important than ashes in some trash bag in Islamabad.

Her uncle paid the cleric to fix this up so she would get asylum in the USA. He has a son who wants to go the school there and an anchor relative helps get a visa. It’ all very complicated, you see.

First, why was she just released on bail and not instead charges dropped?
Not that I am defending the officials in any way but if the girl had to be placed in custody, a secure prison might have been better to protect her from the zealot mobs. But she shouldn’t have been arrested to begin with.
Hopefully this girl and her family will be granted asylum somewhere safe.

An 11 year old in an adult prison? And why is Pakistan one of our allies? I guess to this religious wack job, it is ok to bear false witness against a child to promote your own religion.
Some things are the same everywhere … it is just that the word “blasphemy” is not used to describe the dynamics.
