Tea Party Declares America Dead By Suicide

By Mark Esposito, Guest Blogger

Still reeling from the unprecedented hits of last week’s national election, Tea Partiers have become particularly irrational. In Lebanon Ohio, local tea party officials called for a “counter-revolution” even as they mourned the death of America.  Texas Republican official, Peter Morrison, has publicly asked for an “amicable divorce”  of  godfearin’ GOP’ers from the “maggots” (his words) who voted for Obama. Morrison, who also has a job screening textbooks for the great state of Texas,  is particularly incensed at Asian-Americans and Hispanics who voted for Obama, accusing them of voting on an “ethnic basis.” Perhaps the greatest case of kettle blacking in recent memory.

Not to be outdone in battleground state of Ohio, Cincinnati Tea Party leaders may have earned the “Most Creative Fool” award by publishing the obituary  above, and offering this studied prediction:
We will be a socialist nation within months. However, a revolution is rising and all those elected officials that are blind to what they have done to this country should be encouraged to become enlightened, should be encouraged to step down and should not be reelected.
Like that of quintessential American, Mark Twain, reports of  the nation’s death may have been greatly exaggerated. After all, timeshare mogul, David Seigel, who once threatened mass layoffs to his workers if Obama won (here), reversed course and actually gave them a 5%  wage increase across the board. Donald Trump deleted his wacky twitter call for revolution and even House Speaker John Boehner has signaled his willingness to compromise work (here) with the President to avert a fiscal crisis.
So perhaps the Tea Party-types have the message right but the wrong corpse. Perhaps the words of that lawyer-turned-metaphysical poet, John Donne, are cautioning the  ill-wishing mulligrubs of our age:

Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

  1. What John said! And of course most of the voting was totally rigged anyway. Who knows who REALLY won! If prop 37 lost it HAD to be rigged! Of course, the banksters won whichever of these two got in. But they would have had a VERY tough time of it under Ron Paul.

  2. The “tea party” movement are made up of folks who could not handle the fact that a black man was elected President in 2008; every manifesto that they have spewed out since–to provide them cove–does not mask this salient fact.

  3. Some folks know that Texas is not the badger state….. But then again…. You badger enough and something eventually will happen….. Mark, again….. Wonderful article….. But as I see it cuts both ways…. Fanatics and psychotics can be in the same time space continuum …..

  4. What does the GOP expect!? They hi jack the convention & basically tell all 50 states, that if their delegates are for Ron Paul, then they don’t get to vote!!
I think Paul would have had a LOT better chance of winning than Romney, but then Paul is NOT bought & paid for like the other two.

HOW do they expect to win after putting the Bush crime family idiot in office for 2 terms?
Then they pick McCain, one of the “Keating Five” from the biggest saving & loan scandal of the 80’s!!! And they expect to win??? Really?

  5. Blouise, I actually was screamed at by a fundamentalist christian republican other day. It was surreal.

  6. The Texans have something to celebrate. They elected a brand new US Senator named Ted Cruz. He is the tea party candidate that beat the establishment republican in the primary. Unlike the others, he is Harvard educated. There are so many people in Texas that are upset by Obama’s victory. The day before the election I was parked next to a car with a NOBAMA sign on it. I told my son about it, and the next day he texted “GOBAMA. I love you mom”. My friend with the Obama sticker had her car keyed. There have been lots of incidences.

  7. This is not at all surprising to me. Remember … it was my T-Party neighbor playing TAPS during Romney’s concession speech.

  8. One of the funniest things that happened to the tea party and their enablers was all the flack Nate Silver caught for his predictions. Last time Nate called 49 of the 50 states correctly. This week he called all 50 states. Batting average: 1,000!!!!

  9. Mark,

When I think of the suicide of the Tea Party, I am reminded of the words of another Mark named Sam who said, “I did not attend his funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.”

Oh, wait, the Tea Party said America committed suicide! That’s a different story altogether. Apparently they didn’t notice the rather robust butt kicking all of their candidates got last week. That whole democracy thing sure is a bummer when your guys don’t win.

    Buck up, lil’ hamsters!

  10. Yawn. Seems like Republicans have been hysterically lamenting the death of America after each Clinton election and Obama in 08.

  11. They are funny. They are dense. Unfortunately, they have guns. As a result, they are dangerous. I am not laughing.

  12. Mark,

Just how dense can folks be? Do you think its genetic, organic or the general lack of objective reality…..
